  1. While it would be entertaining to engage you folks in thoughtful discussion, any argument I might offer at this time will be twisted and shouted down by those who feel they must spew hatred and bile at every opportunity.

    My sentiments exactly.

  2. A small fraction of my post had to do with the UJP. Did you even read it?

This has got to be a new wartime political meme.

Prima: (alliance) is a bunch of cowards/tyrants because of peace/war action that they took too far/not far enough.

Secunda: your facts are irrelevant and your opinions are unbecoming of someone who wants to rant about honor.

    Prima: zomg read my post

Fact is, some people are never going to be happy. To me this means that I am in no way obliged to try and please them because I know full well that they will continue on the same path until their flame guns run out of fuel.

I for one cannot STAND tpf. However, that being said, they have fought their bums off in this war have followed their promises that were made to allies.... and while I still have no love for them, they have earned my respect.

If more people possessed your reasoning and consideration, Bob would be a much better place.

  3. This pattern of behavior flat out disgusts me. I see the war itself as a continuation of the past pattern of wars. Not just being "no better," but as if NPO had gracefully passed them the torch in a proud tradition of convenience lynchings.

But more than the war itself, I find this trolling to be outright shameless. Not only is it the same kind of cronyism that is so loudly decried against the Hegemony side's past actions, but it is being done in a far less restrained manner as people seem specifically motivated to shout as loudly as their lungs will allow.

Deep down inside, I really want to believe that Karma's main leading forces are being driven by principals and dignity. To the rest of you, please quiet down and let more honorable voices do the talking. I respect Karma enough to wish that they be represented by the those who know better.

  4. Dunno. Everyone I guess. Sponge comes on here. He claims he is not responsible for alliances disbanding and people shouldn't hate him for it etc. Many Karma people agree. I agree. I'm just wondering if he and others will give the NPO and Co. the same benefit.

Personally I think there is too much deep rooted hatred for that to happen. The same goes for the whole complacency thing; current hegemony alliances are being criticized for not stopping NPO, but a lot of Karma alliances were also NPO allies at the same time. Surprise surprise, this outrage does not apply to them as well.

  5. I say remove the cap on radiation and the cap on environment. Bill lock for everyone during the nuclear winter!

I would actually genuinely like this idea.

    I support this post.

Not only allow the entire GRL to affect people, but allow the happiness reduction to go beyond zero-star environment as well. :)

  6. Personally I think navies are fine as-is.

If I could change anything, I would wish to have the land limit removed. After all, there is no such protection/restriction for the use of nuclear weapons, so being unable to blockade someone seems strange to me.

They're hard to destroy and easy to keep up, I don't see anything really wrong with that. I really don't think that it should be easy to get blockades and battle support going against people, so if anything I would say that slow destruction is a good thing.

  7. The peace mode argument is also invalid because NPO is supposed to be the aggressor here.

If you're going to launch some holy crusade of liberation against the rampaging dictatorship, it really helps your cause if you don't push the opposite direction by accusing your enemies of not fighting hard enough.

  8. My personal take on this:

It's a trade off between how soon Karma wants the war to be over, and what they want out of the result. Those who wish for total disbandment would likely forestall any peace agreements. There are also those who don't want the war to be over soon, so my vote is with NPO victory by default when the timer runs out and game over is declared.

    o/ militant poll-ism

  9. I think it is also appropriate to say that most of the 'hatred' had no logical basis to begin with and therefore does not really count.

One guy commits epic lulz upon another, causing many moons of drama and hatred. But eventually they both find better things to do with their time; some people may still continue expressing the petty sentiments they developed from observation, but these guys don't really hold any stake in what the whole thing was about to begin with.

  10. Having fought Sparta directly in in Unjust, and being in the Hegemony currently, I'd say I don't have anything against them and I wish them well.

I also bought my Greek grandpa a DVD player and a copy of 300 last Christmas, and since then he has been watching it over and over. May the well never have to go hungry for too long.

  11. I can't say much about which past war had what kind of effect on any specific details, but I have had distinct observation. NPO seems to been fully ready for war, as if just about everyone were perpetually laying in wait.

When you look at the graphs, a lot of other alliances appear to have shot up in strength just before the war and then back down again once all of the soft squishy masses are blown off the planet. The fact that NPO didn't have the same upswing suggests that they were as ready as they could be for a long time, the only other explanation is that they had the biggest war of their lives drop down on them without reacting in the slightest way.

Not sure what to think about that, but my personal peace-time focus that I had over the past few months is now costing me dearly in the time of war.

  12. Hey Crohl, why are you in peace mode? I thought you planned on keeping this up for a while? Why did you peace out when your first round of wars was up?

When I read this, I just HAD to go look Crohl up and verify..... sure enough.

Oh well, maybe when it all blows over we can just have boilermakers together in PC.

  13. I like where this thread is going.

One big thing I've noticed about this war is the emotions thrown into it, not the carefree role played emotions, but some kind of deep seething rage as if they had felt every bomb and bullet that went into their alliance over past wars, and likely lost their family in a nuclear strike. More than anything it turns this place into a major drag for me, furthering the effect of having my old beer buddies split up and hating each other.

    Also, what Lam said.

  14. I must extend my most sincere congratulations at successfully making me double take and then laugh.

Not just that, but there is also a combo bonus in order as I will probably be laughing again when I find people screaming and tearing their hair out at how this was settled.

o/ Successful Sith is successful. :D

  15. I say we have no terms, and wait for NPO to grow tired of fighting. Light terms, and when they start stuff later on down the line, we have even more reason to crush them.

If what the peanut gallery says is 100% true, then this would result in the next war being harder, heavier, and sooner. It might also result in NPO crushing and viceroying every last one of them, because they're pretty cool like that.

Therefore, this stance has my utmost support. :jihad:

  16. I really hate to stand in league with the "yeah this totally deserved a thread" crowd, but OP seems to simply be restating the same party lines drawn in every other one of these philosophical exercises lately.

It's not hypocrisy, because when we do it it's justice!

This anger-blind line of thinking will not result in change. If it went that far it would just result in NPO(2nd) bloc-ing back up another year from now to take double plus revenge against whomever happens to be standing on the other side of the line when the time is right. It doesn't matter how strong your emotions are or how deep your wounds go, you cannot exact change by continuing business as usual.

I think that the demonizing of some people and the lionizing of others is largely what causes the problems on Planet Bob[...]
I would say that this is exactly it. Politics ruled by angst and loathing are unlikely to be a major step forward from whatever assumptions that many people here are making of their targets.
  17. But I believe that due punishment should be given to all of the alliances on the other side of the war, and I am shocked and angry (As MANY are) that some of them are getting away so lightly.

Punishment for what, treaty activations... or lack thereof? Fighting too much while fighting too little maybe?

It could be argued that NPO attacked OV and thus is the aggressor in its respective conflict. But then they called two friends, and they each called two friends, who called two friends of their own..... basically somewhere around ~85% of the war right now is happening because it's just what we do here on Bob. Think of it as the ubiquitous parties on TV where a couple of people see a good occasion, and then all of a sudden loud music starts thumping and drinks are being distributed amongst hundreds of people.

Or another example from my earlier days... one cowboy punches another, then all of a sudden the entire saloon is fighting. Not all of us feel emotionally distraught over it.

  18. Those of you in Karma who's alliances have come back from ruination to rise in this war, please raise your hand.

Turning the war into a lynching will do nothing more than continue along the same path that Bob has already been traveling down. If you support that then it's none of my business, but if you don't want it then you have to fully realize that you don't want it so that you can prevent yourself from creating it.
