The world media is invited to Syracuse, York for an official announcement from Emperor Harland regarding the future of the Empire. The announcement will be held in two days. All are invited. Any nation not able to send media, please contact MediaCorp. and the event will be streamed to your country free of charge. A question and answer session will take place with the Emperor and the world media. Thank you.

He would sit down and wait patiently for the Emperor.

He would be disguised as a BBC reporter. Palace life was boring at the moment so a trip abroad would do him some good.

Channel 6 Anchor Jim Gardner upon hearing of the great news breaking from the Empire of Pravus Ingruo set up a flight with a camera crew to go and cover the event.

A team of reporters from several Aragonese news agencies arrived to cover the story.

John Jonah Jameson, a leading reporter in Maine, arrived with anticipation.

A reporting team from the Caspian Journal would arrive to cover the statement.

General Kibwe Enu arrived alone at the announcement. He was not concerned much with the Empire but Atlas's government picked him to go.

Col. Jameson, head of the public affairs office for the Kingdom's Miami base would attend. Walking in the conference area, he raised his eyebrows in puzzlement over all the reporters with obvious body-guard protection. This wasn't some backwater nation where you had to fear for your life when attending official government sponsored events, this was one of the most powerful nations in North America. His glare, changing to a sneer at the idiots of the world, was pasted on his face as he walked to the front center of the room and sat down, his medals jingling on his chest as he shifted in his seat to find the most comfortable position before pulling out a tablet on which he'd record video, sound and type notes during the session. A pair of cameras that he brought with him and manned by some junior P.A. soldiers were in the back to take coverage of the event for the regular nation. He, on the other hand, was charged with briefing his monarch if anything.... exiting was announced.

Emperor Harland stepped out to the podium, flanked by Regent Sinclair and Captain Thomas Asgeirsson-Atkinson who was dressed in a sharp gray, pinstripe three piece suit. The Emperor smiled as he pulled out a few pieces of paper from the inside of his suit. While the presence of some bodyguards had surprised him, and Sinclair had wanted them thrown out, Harland had decided to let them stay. Imperial security forces were interspersed throughout the crowd regardless, and the cameras that three of them had were actually X-Ray cameras to check for concealed weapons. They would be ready in case anyone tried anything.

"Good afternoon, and thank you all for coming." Harland looked out over the gathered press, took a deep breath, and continued. "Recently the Empire has gone through a time of incredible hardship and strife. Though we made it through stronger than ever, it is time for a change here in the Empire. Therefore... I am hereby resigning from the position of Emperor effective immediately. As my last act as Emperor, I appointed Thomas Atkinson-Asgeirsson to succeed with me. So, without further adu, Emperor Atkinson-Asgeirsson." Between the shocked silence and applause, Thomas stepped up to the microphone.

"Thank you. As the first order of business, I hereby announce that the Empire's borders are once again open to the outside world. Regent Sinclair will remain in his position until such time that he wishes to retire and a suitable replacement has been found."

"In terms of foreign affairs, our current treaties will remain in place with the United Federation of the East and Ireland. Irish troops will be allowed to remain in Miami, and we hope our base will be allowed to remain at our base in Scotland. Internally, we will rebuild our military to what it once was, and invest in multiple infrastructure projects to rebuild our nation to its former glory."

"Questions will now be taken from the press at large."

'Scenario 22B' echoed throughout Colonel Jameson's head as he heard the announcement, the Kingdom had prepared for the day that their ally's Emperor changed though it had happened far earlier than expected. Standing up, Colonel Jameson would wait until he was called on and then would say, "Sir, Colonel Jameson of the Public Affairs office for his Majesty's base in Miami, I can assure you that the treaty between our two nations will remain strong despite this changing of leadership. Also, the Kingdom will continue to support your base in Argyll and Bute until such a time as the Empire no longer wishes to have it."

Alfred kept his hat low over his face to avoid being recognised as he stood.

"A question for Mr Harland, what made you believe that the Empire would thrive once more under new leadership? Moreover, why appoint His Majesty Atkinson-Asgeirsson to the position of Emperor?"

The Atlian general decided to ask some questions once he got over his shock. "What are you going to do about the Labradorean tragedy? Do you believe for there to still be terrorists left? Furthermore, will the Dobbs Doctrine still be in full effect under your rule?"

Roger Smith stood up and asked "What are your plans in terms of foreign relations with North American neighbors?"

Jim Gardner stood and rubbed his chin. "Emperor-Emeritus Harland and Emperor Asgeirsson-Atkinson, My question is simple, and comes off the back of Mr. Smith's question about your North American policy. Specifically, What will be your policy towards The United Kingdom of Idaho-Montana?"

A BBC Scotland reporter was given a message from the Egalitor's Office and read it aloud to Emperor Atkinson-Asgeirsson.

I will not be so rude as to discuss anything with you over public channels but I wish to extend an invitation to you to come to Scotland Egalita for a talk, particularly revolving around the military bases in Scotland. Scrymgeour Egalitor."

"Sir, do you believe the fundamentals of your nation will change in any way under your new leadership?"

Roger got a phone call on his cell phone and quickly dismissed himself and went to the bathroom.

"What is it Verrington?"

"Mr. Prime Minister, we have a [i]serious[/i] problem. There's just been a terrorist attack in Castry, Blue Moon at the oil refinery which killed 200 people. They call themselves the United Christian Front and want to overthrow us. I've already dispatched elements of the 1st Combat Brigade, 7th Light Infantry to the town, a total of 200 soldiers. What should we do?"

"Send in two more companies and get Special Forces Command ready, I'm on my way back now."

"Understood."

With that Roger got up and immediately flew back to Blue Heaven.

Thomas smiled warmly at the Colonel and nodded his head. "I thank you heartily for your support, Colonel. The Empire is lucky to have a friend such as the United Kingdom in such troubled times."

The former Emperor, now already having loosened his tie as an almost symbolic gesture of being free from the shackles of leadership, stepped forward once again. "I am an old man, son... much older than my outward appearance. I started off in leadership under the old Pravus Ingruo, when the North American political sphere was first beginning to take shape. Every single nation that was here when I rose to power is gone... Tahoe, Viniland, and now even J Andres for a third time. While Pravus Ingruo has endured, it is time for me to move to the sidelines."

"Thomas is a bright young man who comes from excellent stock. He has proven himself on the field of battle as a brilliant tactician, and has the wisdom of his mother and the cold, calculating instinct of his father. Thomas is a natural-born leader, which is why he was a natural choice to lead the Empire into a new Golden Age. He has the vision that I lack, the youthful drive that I lack, and the energy that I lack. I hope that I answered your question."

A slight frown tugged at the corner of Thomas' mouth, but he stepped back to the podium. "I must say, Africa's love affair with a long-deceased Canadian nation is getting quite tiresome. Statements were made by Emperor Harland and I would direct you to those on the matter. However, I will say this: terrorism will not be tolerated by the Empire. This rising wave of terrorism connected to religion is something that cannot be allowed to continue and will not be allowed to continue in the Empire or North America itself. We will work with our allies on other continents to stamp out this scourge of terrorism before it becomes a world-wide epidemic. Nations found to be hosting, helping, or otherwise enabling terrorists will be dealt with most harshly, especially if such an attack befalls the Empire or one of her protectorates."

"Also, yes, the Dobbs Doctrine will still be used in full force under my leadership. There is no cancellation clause in that document for a reason."

"Our relationship with each North American nation will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. In the interest of respect and state secrecy, I will not be talking about speculative relations with specific nations in public."

"Please give the Egalitor my warmest regards, and I will be in contact soon regarding an official state visit to Scotland. To answer your question specifically, no, I do not believe the fundamentals of the Empire will change. The Empire has always been a freedom-loving, liberty-protecting, bastion of strength in North America. I see no reason why that should change now or in the future. Little things will be different I am sure, but the fundamentals will remain the same."

"While I will not comment, again, on relations with specific nations, I will say this: Monaco is a European nation with holdings in North America, namely New Monaco, that are not a military base. The Empire views New Monaco as a colony and would like to see it vacated and turned over to a North American power, the Empire, or a combination of the two, as soon as possible. There was a massive was with hundreds of thousands of casualties to force a North American nation out of Europe... it seems hypocritical for Europe to have the same in North America. Nevertheless, the Empire will attempt to work out these disagreements through diplomacy rather than with bullets."
