On this day we the people of the Alaskan Socialist Peoples Republic declare our existence to the world. No longer will the capitalists of the Federal Republic suppress the will of people and of socialism. No longer will bourgeoisie oppress the weak of our nation and of the world. The imperialists are now defeated and a new age of glorious socialism emerges. We shall work for the people and by the people and to a new age of peace and harmony.[/center]

[size="4"][b]Government and Politics[/b][/size]

The constitution describes the Communist Party of Alaska as the "leading force of society and of the state". The first secretary of the Communist Party is concurrently President of the Council of State (President of Alaska) and President of the Council of Ministers who are elected to be in-charge of Health, Trade.etc. Members of both councils are elected by the National Assembly of People's Power.
The President of Alaska, who is also elected by the Assembly, serves for five years and there is no limit to the number of terms of office.

[b][u] Legislation:[/u][/b]

The Supreme Court of Alaska serves as the nation's highest judicial branch of government. It is also the court of last resort for all appeals against the decisions of provincial courts.
Alaska's national legislature, the National Assembly of People's Power, is the supreme organ of power; 609 members serve five-year terms. The assembly meets five days a week. Candidates for the Assembly are approved by public referendum.

All Alaskan citizens over 18 who have not been convicted of a criminal offense can vote. Article 131 of the Constitution states that voting shall be "through free, equal and secret vote". Article 136 states: "In order for deputies or delegates to be considered elected they must get more than half the number of valid votes cast in the electoral districts". Votes are cast by secret ballot and counted in public view. Nominees are chosen at local gatherings from multiple candidates before gaining approval from election committees. In the subsequent election, there is only one candidate for each seat, who must gain a majority to be elected.

[size="4"][b]Economy:[/b][/size]

The GDP (gross domestic product) currently is $40.1 billion. Its per capita personal income currently is $40,042. The oil and gas industry dominates the Alaskan economy, with more than 80% of the state's revenues derived from petroleum extraction. Alaska's main export product (excluding oil and natural gas) is seafood, primarily salmon, cod, Pollock and crab.

Agriculture represents only a fraction of the Alaskan economy. Agricultural production is primarily for consumption within the state and includes nursery stock, dairy products, vegetables, and livestock. Manufacturing is limited, with most foodstuffs and general goods imported from elsewhere.

Employment is primarily in government controlled industries such as natural resource extraction, shipping, and transportation. Military bases are a significant component of the economy in both Fairbanks and Anchorage.Its industrial outputs are crude petroleum, natural gas, coal, gold, precious metals, zinc and other mining, seafood processing, timber and wood products. There is also a growing service and tourism sector. Tourists have contributed to the economy by supporting local lodging.
