Herodez Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 Why can't you delete a thread that you started?
xoindotnler Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 (edited) It is not possible. Edited March 5, 2011 by xoindotnler

Manwe Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 If players were able to go back and delete content that in hindsight was embarrassing to them or their alliance, we'd have a lot less entertainment around here. In all seriousness, from a moderation standpoint, the main reason is that if you delete your own thread, you're not just deleting your own content, you're deleting the replies posted by other players as well. Giving players the ability to delete other players' content is not something we're interested in permitting.
I'm curious, what's the reason for players not being able to delete their own posts? Is it technical (can't say I've ever tried assigning it to non-mods but I assume you can) or is there another reason? It wouldn't fall under the deleting others' content thing and people effectively do it all the time by editing out their statements.
for IPB the setting is in the group settings in ACP ("Can 'Hard Delete' own topics?" and "Can 'Soft Delete' own topics") but as Manwe mentioned its more a policy thing than a technical reason

thedestro Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 (edited) It's not a big deal so who cares. If you made a mistake, edit your post. If creating your thread was an accident, request a lock. Edited March 5, 2011 by thedestro
If person x makes a post that is against the rules and person y reports it, under the current permissions settings, person x can only go back and edit the post. The link in person y's report is still a valid one and will show us an edited post. If person x were allowed to delete the post altogether, person y's report would essentially have a broken link and lead to more confusion than is really necessary. Given the proclivity towards editing one's post when reported, this ends up being a fairly important issue.

Herodez Posted March 6, 2011 Author Report Posted March 6, 2011 Thanks for answering my question then, Mr. Manwe.
