Suddenly and without warning, Pan Asian Empire military personnel began entering North Korea. Public statements by the Pan Asian President Nikolai Vasilev said that "they were in the country per a request from the North Korean government."

Western Federation forces had gone onto high alert, with the US forces based in South Korea being reinforced. President Daniel Wilkes made this statement in Washington: "We must take all steps to preserve the co-existance we have with the Pan Asian Empire."

Reports began to filter in of Pan Asian Empire forces increasing their presence in the country. Troop levels passing into the country over the last two weeks have been estimated to be around one hundred thousand. Rumours abound that North Korea could be a jumping point for a second Korean War though concentration of the forces are centered in the northern regions of the country.

South East Asia

At dawn that morning, Cambodia and Laos were simulaneously invaded by two Pan Asian Empire armies totalling three hundred thousand soldiers and over ten thousand armoured vehicles. The pretext of the invasion was a list of supposed spying allegations against both nations. The real reason was to seize bases in Cambodia and Laos plus the coastal areas of Cambodia.

The Pan Asian Empire invasion of Laos immediately overran the country and captured the Laotian capital Luang Prabang within a couple of hours into the invasion. The invaders had suffered no casualties and the Laotian Army had lost only four soldiers killed. In Cambodia, the invasion had ran into difficulties. The Cambodian Army had resisted and the invasion had bogged down just ten miles short of the capital Phenom Penh.

At ten am a strong thrust by fifty thousand soldiers had forced the Cambodian rearguard positions into the city itself, which was now burning from constant air raids. Both sides now engaged in vicious street fighting throughout the day, causing many civilians to die from artillery and bombs.

Western Federation President Daniel Wilkes condemned the invasion: "I strongly condemn this overt violence against Laos and Cambodia. I ask that the Pan Asian Empire cease its campaign against the valiant Cambodian capital and withdraw immediately."

Pan Asian President Nikolai Vasilev rejected the statement.

The first half of August 2015 passed with the global situation looking very volatile. Pan Asian Empire territorial gains were naturally worrying the Western Federation and the rest of South East Asia. However Pan Asian President Nikolai Vasilev had ordered that no further military operations be carried out for the time being. He knew that the Western Federation had been rattled and were now on high alert, so he would now bide his time.

Further reinforcements had been coming into the country from bases in Hawaii and the Western US Seaboard. The Western Federation military presence now stood at sixteen thousand and was backed by the Second Fleet which had steamed from Pearl Habour and had arrived in Tokyo Harbour.

Korean DMZ

A low flying Pan Asian Recon aircraft flying in the restricted airspace is shot down by a ROK Surface to Air Missile. Pan Asian Empire forces respond by firing a Short Range Ballistic Missile at a Command Center near Inchon. It strikes the center killing eighty personnel and wounding three hundred.

Later that day, a Western Federation tactical nuclear weapon explodes on a massive North Korean supply dump just north of the DMZ, killing one thousand two hundred North Korean soldiers and obliterates around one million tonnes of military equipment.

Western Federation President Daniel Wilkes warns the Pan Asian Empire that any attempt to instigate a war in North Korea would be met with "extreme consequences". This comment alarms Moscow and they hurredly pull their soldiers away from the DMZ, just hours away from a full scale invasion of South Korea.

At 04:00 Hours Local Time, the Pan Asian Offensive began. Artillery began to pound the Western Federation positions along the entire border from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea. The barrage was supplemented by hundreds of fighters and bombers which unloaded ordinance in the border area. Within two hours, the entire area was blanketed in high explosive which had completely disabled the forward Western Federation positions.

05:00 Hours

Four thrusts were launched into Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. Small squads led the way using infiltration tactics to penetrate through defensive positions, where they made gaps for following armour which sped through. Western Federation forces however held firm and fought for every position, determined to contain them. In desperation, Pan Asian forces began dropping airborne forces all over the border area in an attempt to overwhelm the defences with sheer numbers.

11:00 Hours
Washington DC

President Daniel Wilkes had ordered the entire Western Federation military to mobilise. All male reservists between the ages of eighteen and fourty had been ordered to report to their units. He had for the past seven hours been getting reports of Pan Asian Empire attacks all over the European Border and the news that bombers had raided Warsaw.

14:00 Hours
Lubin, Poland

The sound of crashing bombs filled the air as Pan Asian aircraft swarmed over the city. Fires raged through the streets and many had been killed and injured. Western Federation fighters had been surprised by the airstrikes and the nearest intact airbases were well out of range.

The day ended with Pan Asian forces gaining some ground, but the Western Federation forces along the border areas were holding firm. Both sides had suffered heavily in the first twenty four hours of fighting. However, the situation was about to get worse for the Western Federation.

08:00 Hours

The second day began with fighting continuing to rage inside the border areas. Pan Asian airborne forces had managed to help overwhelm the first line of defences. Pan Asian forces now began to move slowly westward. Western Federation forces began to fall back in good order, leaving rearguards to slow the Pan Asian advance as much as possible. In the area opposite Bialystok the advance had penetrated to fifteen miles inside the border, which had been the biggest gain so far. Pyzemysl had been surrounded at the outset and the garrison of three thousand was bravely resisting the Pan Asian forces trying to break in. This action was helping the retreating Western Federation forces in that sector.

11:00 Hours
Bialystok

The city was now under heavy fire and being slowly closed in by the front line. Western Federation forces had positions just east of the city who would try to hold up the Pan Asian advance. The civilian population could be seen moving through the streets and many of them had been killed and injured. Western Federation forces were now evacuating the city to defensive positions further to the west.

15:00 Hours

The situation in Slovakia, Hungary and Romania was also dire. The Pan Asian offensive had penetrated to an average of fifteen miles in all three countries, causing major strategic reverses to Western Federation forces trying to stem the advance.

Poland

The third day of the Pan Asian offensive heralded the start of a mass breakout of their forces in Poland. One spearhead anchored along the Baltic Coast managed to take Gdansk and drive . Meanwhile the situation for the Western Federation forces in the rest of Poland was desperate. The Pan Asian spearheads had each penetrated at least eighty miles into Poland with Warsaw being threatened. Lubin had been occupied, with the defenders retreating further west.

Heavily fortified Western Federation defensive lines were being constructed along the border between Germany and Poland to halt the Pan Asian advance. The River Oder would be used to the benefit of the defenders in terms of being fortified and being made hard to cross.

Slovakia

The Pan Asian offensive had smashed through the country, completely overwhelming the main bulk of Western Federation forces in the country. It had made massive progress advancing one hundred miles and destroying much equipment and denying the Western Federation the ability to make a firm stand. Bratislava, Slovakia's Capital was in the process of being evacuated.

23rd September 2015

Hungary

Hungary's plight was even worse than that. The country was in complete chaos and Pan Asian Forces were rampaging two hundred and fifty miles from their start points and closing with the border with Austria and the Czech Republic, where with the Germany-Polish Border, a defence line was in place to halt them.

Romania

The country had been two third occupied with Bucharest already in enemy hands. Western Federation forces had however managed to extricate most of its strength by using rearguard actions to slow down the Pan Asian spearheads. The order however had been to reluctantly abandon Romania to its fate. They would however make the Pan Asian forces pay for taking the country.

24th September 2015

Pan Asian Forces had reached the German-Polish Border and had been halted by the vast defence line in front of them. Warsaw had been occupied and the entire country had once again fallen under occupation. A spearhead had struck south, then west into the western edge of Slovakia, eliminating the final pocket of resistance and capturing the capital Bratislava.

In Hungary and Romania, the Pan Asian invasion had also overwhelmed both countries, freeing up many divisions for future operations. In four days, four countries had fallen to the Pan Asian offensive. The danger was proven to be not over yet as the forces in Slovakia barrelled across the border into the Czech Republic.

The offensive immediately drove the Western Federation forces back, driving one hundred and ten miles into the country. At the same time, Pan Asian forces began advancing into Austria, taking Vienna that morning and rapidly overwhelmed the country. The Western Federation forces in Europe had taken a severe pounding, losing thousands of miles in territory.

25th September 2015

The day opened with the Western Federation forces holding positions along Germany's eastern and southern borders, plus along the Austrian, Hungarian and Romanian western borders. They had been reinforced by units coming from the US and Canada, plus the newly formed draft divisions.

North Korea
05:00 Hours

Operation Retribution opened with mass air attacks on targets in North Korea. Three hundred aircraft blasted ground units and airbases all over the country. At the same time, five hundred thousand Western Federation and South Korean soldiers began sweeping northwards. Resistance collapsed immediately and the Pan Asian forces began retreating towards their homeland.

North Korea
13:00 Hours

The Western Federation and South Korean attack had raced seventy miles along the entire front, cutting off the port of Nampho and seizing Kaesong and Pyongyang. North Korean forces had resisted bravely but the technological superiority of the Western Federation and South Korea was overwhelming. They continued to retreat, long behind the Pan Asian forces who had by now completed their withdrawal behind the northern border.

Japan
19:00 Hours

A task force had began to leave ports all over Japan, for a planned offensive which would take place in the morning. Its objective was to divert Pan Asian forces away from Europe and support the offensive in Korea.

05:00 Hours

Western Federation ships began closing on the island of Sakhalin. Three hundred fighters launched from the Japanese Mainland began to attack air bases along Sakhalin, while Cruise Missiles were launched against targets inside the planned landing area. At the same time, four hundred air assault soldiers were dropped to secure key positions. Operation Fortitude had begun

07:00 Hours

After two hours of constant bombardment, three landings were made on the two strips of land on either side of Sakhalin, situated in the the southern area of Sakhalin. The invasion force was made up of seventy thousand soldiers from fifteen different nations in the Western Federation. The defenders on the island were fifteen Russian divisions who were ordered to hold at all costs. The first few hours passed with them trying to force the two bridgeheads back into the sea.

13:00 Hours

The invaders had managed to halt the Pan Asian defenders attempts to drive them back. They had then counterattacked, pushing them back, with the western area attack seizing Aniva Bay and Korsakov. In the eastern bridgehead, Ozerskiy had fallen and the bridgeheads were about to link up near the town of Prigorodnoye.

17:00 Hours

Both spearheads had after heavy fighting, managed to capture Prigornodnoye and formed a significant bridgehead. They had then pushed north, coming within three miles of Khomoutovo. However the attack was then forced to halt due to determined Pan Asian resistance.

The second day began with Western Federation forces launching their spearheads northwards, after a ten minute lightning artillery and air bombardment. The surprised Pan Asian forces fell back, relinquishing Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk which fell around midday. On the west coast, Kholmsk was taken and the front was pushing steadily further and further north. Reinforcements were landing at the newly captured Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Airport which were being fed into the battles.

However the front had by the evening stabilised again. This was not what the Western Federation High Command had hoped for. They had hoped to have at least advanced further north than this. Time would tell how long the campaign would last.

The same day also marked the end of the Korean Campaign. Western Federation and South Korean forces had reached the northern border and halted. This victory had placed the strategically important port of Vladivostok into range of Western Federation forces. That would be the next target once the forward units had been resupplied and aircraft established on the former North Korean airbases.

Western Federation forces continued to push further north, despite the constant heavy resistance the Pan Asian forces defending the island were putting up. Bykov and Dolinsk were the settings for two major battles as Western Federation forces tried to take them in the face of a determined defence. They had taken a foothold in what had been considered safe Pan Asian territory. The shock and audacity of the invasion had rocked the world and had shaken the Pan Asian leadership while it had boosted the Western Federation leadership.

Pan Asian President Nikolai Vasilev had by now ordered that the island "be defended as long as it is militarily possible to do so." That meant that he was willing to withdraw to save his forces rather than squander them in the defence of Sakhalin. However the Pan Asian forces on the island had received reinforcement, although not as many as the Western Federation were bringing in day by day. They were under constant harrassment from Western Federation aircraft who came in low to drop several bombs or fire Air to Ground Missiles on their positions.

The day was characterised by further Western Federation gains on the island. Chekhovo and Tomari, situated on the west coast of Sakahlin were captured, forcing Pan Asian naval units nearby to flee northwards. The invasion could now not be challenged by the Pan Asian forces on the island due to their severe chronic shortage of ammunition and fuel.

Western Federation aircraft had total air superiority over the whole front which gave the ground forces complete freedom to move undetected. Commanders on the ground were now trying to increase the speed of the advance so to complete the campaign before the onset of winter.

The Western Federation advance continued. However the offensive had been slowed so supplies could get to the front line. Pan Asian forces had however disengaged and moved far to the north so to regroup. The condition of their units were so bad that they could not even man the line, let alone fight.

The commander of Pan Asian forces on Sakhalin had told Moscow that the forces on the island could hold out for two more weeks at the most. This revelation highlighted the amount of damage the Western Federation invasion had done to these units which had been of good quality before the invasion.

Air strikes were now being mounted at least twenty miles ahead of the advance units to help soften up defensive positions and also to dampen the Pan Asian forces morale.

Meanwhile, the surprise declaration of war against the Western Federation was made by the African Union President Jaslem Al Firhi in their capital Cairo. The rationale for the invasion was to gain territory in the Indian Ocean and also make more mischief for the Western Federation. The Western Federation President Daniel Wilkes in turn declared war on the African Union.

The Central - South American Republic President Franciso Lugos later that day issued a declaration of war against the African Union and also the Pan Asian Empire, the latter in support of the Western Federation. All four superpowers were now at war.

With the front units resupplied, Western Federation forces continued its general offensive, while launching a strike towards Krasnogorsk. Pan Asian units were pushed back under the onslaught, with six divisions being wiped out just south of the city. A brief battle took place for the bridge running over the river flowing through Krasnogorsk, before Western Federation units managed to overwhelm the defenders, who retreated northwards.

By the evening, the Pan Asian forces had again managed to halt the Western Federation attacks, however they would withdraw most of their units during the night leaving a rear guard behind. This had been the tactics used every night so to allow themselves a breathing space.

This day was also the heralding of Operation Asian Tiger, the Western Federation invasion of Cambodia. Spearheads swept over the border from Thailand and began advancing eastwards. Western Federation forces had continued northwards and had captured Vostok. Pan Asian forces had put up heavy resistance but with limited ammunition and equipment, they could not hold onto any position for long. The Pan Asian Supreme High Command had ordered that no more reinforcements be sent to Sakhalin as the island was expected to fall in the next week.

Meanwhile, Western Federation High Command had ordered that plans be drawn up for a possible occupation of Vladivostok as a viable resupply point, using bases on the former North Korean border.

Western Federation forces had continued to advance, liberating the Cambodian Capital Phnom Penh. The collapse of Pan Asian forces inside the country was swift, forcing them to retreat towards Laos and Vietnam. Aircraft swept in to attack the Pan Asian divisions in the battle area. Morale in these units had plummeted as air strike after air strike destroyed vehicles and precious ammunition. Much needed fuel was scarce and many vehicles that had survived the air attacks or during the fighting had to be left behind.

Finally the front broke with Western Federation forces racing through the gaps. Heavy pressure over the last nine days began to stretch Pan Asian forces on the island to the breaking point. The evacuation had began at the northern tip of Sakhalin with ships from China and Russia taking soldiers and their equipment off the island. Their plan was to lay a screening force to slow the advance down so evacuation could take place, however this was optimistic seeing the breakthrough that had occured to the south.

News broke of African Union forces invading Israel. Eight divisions attacked on a short front, pushing a way through the border defences and into Western Federation territory. Fighting was fierce as the spearheads fought their way northeast. They suffered many casualties but managed to get a good distance into Israel, capturing a good deal of territory before being finally stopped.

A strong counterattack that afternoon drove the African Union units back into their own territory and far beyond their start positions. A general offensive was ordered and spearheads burst from the entire border area and raced into the Sinai region. They raced through the desert, outflanking rearguard positions and overwhelming any opposition. By the end of the day, they had seized a generous bridgehead in the Sinai.

Finally after chasing African Union units westwards the Western Federation offensive reached the Suez Canal, effectively closing it to civilian traffic. They immediately dug in on the western bank and reinforced their positions. They would now hold position and wait for any African Union counterattack.

Meanwhile to the south, Western Federation forces continued their attempt to clear the Sinai.

Western Federation forces had finally forced the African Union divisions in the Sinai to withdraw across the Gulf of Suez and onto the western bank. This major defeat had severely hurt the presige of its President Jaslem Al Firhi and would place the African Union capital Cairo under severe threat.

The rest of October would pass with no further fighting on the ground. The Western Federation forces in Norway and Sweden had regrouped after the Finnish campaign and intelligence showed that the Pan Asian war machine had turned its attention away from Scandinavia for the time being.

In fact, Pan Asian forces had been shifted to Romania where an attack would be made on Bulgaria to increase pressure on Turkey and Greece. However they would face a substantial Western Federation presence there and the offensive would be heavily contested. It would also be aimed mainly at capturing the Black Sea coastline.

Pan Asian units began to set up camp in marshalling areas in the southern area of the country. Western Federation intelligence knew of the threat due to special forces conducting several infiltration missions which confirmed that the buildup was taking place. Secret plans to take the war into Romanian territory were being considered and timed to take place immediately before any Pan Asian offensive. Even if the Pan Asian offensive opened first, the weight of forces they possessed were not as much as the Western Federation had in that sector of the front.
