Zoot Zoot Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 British numbers stationed in the Ivory Coast were At this point down to 5000 men. The other 35,000 had rotated out back to England to continue domestic duties. The small force left behind would be confined to the naval station with the exception of perhaps a century of officers who would tour the Ivorian bases, hold talks with Ivorian commanders, and finally handling adminstration duties in the embassy. A message was sent to the Ivorian Government informing them that the British military forces would be fully pulled out by early next year pending further talks with the Ivorian Government. Quote

Zoot Zoot Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 Private Communique to the Ottoman Republic from the British Embassy
To whom it may concern, Great Britain requests permission to make Fort Africa, the navy base near Abidjan, a perminant leasing. If you agree, Britain will pay your Government an annual fee for the lease of land. Our reasons for this request are simply that the Royal Navy has no midpoint to the South Atlantic on its patrols. We share an excellent relationship with your people in our opinion and British Forces stationed in Fort Africa have established good connections with the local population around the base when purchasing food supplies for the Camp and for ships passing through the area. We will reduce the facilities garrison to merely a Batallion of Royal Marines to further reduce our footprint in the area. Best Regards, Govenor General of Fort Africa and the British Consulate Andrew Billington
Quote
