King Alexander IV Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 First of all, let me start by saying I know none of you care about what I have to say, and expect that all of you will find this pointless and meaningless except the few people that may respond to it. I've only utilized this forum for the convenience of it as a soundboard. Second, I've met some great people during my time here, way too many to name, but if we've ever chatted OOC, you're one of them. Now, to the real business... As those I chat to regularly know, I've been disinterested in CN for quite some time. There's many reasons for this cause and I'll start off with the game itself. It's Boring! There have been no major updates to the gameplay since the addition of the Mars/Moon bases in July 2009. However, due to the cost, this update hardly affected the majority of nations. At this very moment there's 2,633 Moon bases and 756 Mars Bases. There's also just over 20,000 nations and only about 15% of them have a Moon or Mars wonders. Previous major update before this was a month earlier with changes to the spy attacks. Again, not something used on a daily basis by most people. The only updates which affected all players and gameplay were in 2008 (and earlier). The change in war declaration range in November, introduction of navy in July and events reintroduced in June. The biggest updates were done in May 2008, 2 years and 8 months ago. You can see why I've been bored with it for over a year. I know its not easy to make and develop a game, but when there hasn't been a major update or improvement in the game play for over 2 years, it's easy to see why there's fewer and fewer players. If you think CN is not losing players, then you need to pay more attention. I've lost 3 trades from a stable trade ring in the last 2 months that was running for over a year from deleted inactive nation. I just can't be bothered looking for new trades only to have those same nations deleted 4 weeks later. If Admin wants for this game to continue existing, he needs to wake up and realize there's a huge problem and come up with a fix for it, or it will suffer the same fate as Truckz. The other reason I'm over CN is because of the general BS and ignorance on these forums. I never realized how immature and to put it bluntly, stupid people can be in order to defend a few pixels. I guess you can't expect much more when the majority of players are petty little children, and not in the literal sense but figuratively, even though most on here are kids. People just need to grow up and stop doing the whole "no u" thing. Now, to the last thing that kinda broke my CN enjoyment. When I first made my nation 3 years ago, I received a ton of recruitment messages. The only one that seemed genuine and not copy pasted was the one from a green alliance called Viridian Entente. I joined, enjoyed my time there for a while, moved on to start Ordo Recolitus then merged to Ordo Verde, left there, started a micro alliance just as the Karma war broke out, disbanded, joined Vanguard temporarily and then rejoined VE again. It was good to be in a familiar environment among old friends and like always, I enjoyed being there. I left on good terms as I thought at the time, but what followed showed me that may not have been the case. I have friends at VE and wish them no ill thoughts and I still respect the values of what VE once stood for. However, certain actions over the last 10-12 months and as recently as 2 weeks ago have demonstrated to me that the values of the VE I knew and loved when I first joined are not respected anymore. I know I'm not the only one that shares these thoughts as there are a few former and current VE members which have expressed the same thing. I really wish nothing against VE, and I hope my current actions reflect that, but you guys need to find your way back to the old times when we were the underdog and others looked up to us and praised us for the actions we took. The same time when even former members were proud to say they were once a part of the glorious Entente, as opposed to hanging their heads in shame and would rather forget the whole thing happened. I for one, will always think of myself as a Viridian at heart as I would assume many of the older members feel, even though they may not currently be in VE. Again, thanks to everyone who has made my time on Planet Bob an amazing one, you really do know who you all are. If you have nothing meaningful to contribute to this post instead of the typical OWF "no u" attitude, best not to say anything rather than further prove one of my points. I haven't proof-read this post, so ignore whatever mistakes there might be. Thank you and good night! PS. Happy 3 year anniversary to New New Zealand! Quote
im317 Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 KA sad to see you go man, had fun talking to you in the past. Quote
Duncan King Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 It's always sad to see a long term player go. I'd suggest taking a break in a neutral alliance until you know if you really want to quit. If you're sure, good luck in RL. Quote
Roy the Mighty Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 some good points made about the lack of good game updates. But what else were you looking for? Quote
BlkAK47_002 Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 And so another old timer bites the dust Good luck in RL, Quote
Tarikmo Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 Always sad to see a player leave. Have fun in RL, don't forget to write! Quote
Bryne Farrior Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 Sucks to see you go, man. I can understand the OOC reasons, but I also hate to see IC stuff factoring into to your decision. Regardless, best of luck to you out there. Quote
Tequila Mockingbird Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 shame to see you stop playing ka, had some good times with you, see you on irc dude Quote
Arrnea Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 Farewell to thee, Alexander... King of the Kiwis. You shall be missed. Quote
Jewelangel Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 I told you that this wasn't allowed..... but since we will be catching up in July, I'm luckier than everyone else. you. Quote
Henry Rollins Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 What if Bob gets revamped and updates start finally happening? Won't you regret having to start again? Quote
Heft Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 Have you considered joining another alliance? Like, say, mine? Really, a change of scenery can often be enough to make the game seem more interesting, in my experience and others' as well. Quote
Teddyyo Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 Noooo my penguin toting friend I hate to see you go Was it something I said? Not to be argumentative or anything, but not much has changed in Viridia for me between when I first came two years ago and now. I don't know, maybe it was different before. Your VE:RP play will be remembered too oh I miss that stuff. To any Viridian harboring ill-will to KA for this or his past: y'all can go $%&@ yourselves, really, except Kuse who I know will be cursing like a drunken sailor tomorrow. I must admit that this...hasn't impressed me, per se, but KA has been a real stand-up guy. Tedd. Quote
+Zeke+ Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 Heft makes a very good point about the alliance side of the game. Sometimes you have to join a new group to get that energized feeling again. As for the game itself? I feel your pain. Same old same old. Quote
King Alexander IV Posted January 4, 2011 Author Report Posted January 4, 2011 Thanks for the well wishes everyone, I really appreciate it. @Henry: If CN got a major revamp, I won't regret my leaving now at all. It has to be a really substantial update to get me back. @Heft: It still won't change the mechanics of the game or the politics, it'll still be the same old boring thing it is now. Meeting new people may make it a bit interesting for a little while, but then it'll be the same old thing again. @Teddyyo Thanks for the kind words... It's people like you who have made my time at VE and CN in general so enjoyable. Quote
Teddyyo Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 Always the gentleman, KA PM me if you want to go into detail concerning VE, I still don't quite understand what you are saying and I think it should be a private conversation. -Tedd Quote
Jon the Warlord Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 Aw, sad to see an old nation leave. If you ever get bored, just come back. Quote
abdur Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 Hey KA, Sad to see an old player leave. Best of luck IRL man. Quote
MrMuz Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 CN is, and always will be a game that revolves around players' actions. The lack of change by Admin is one of the reasons many people start playing it in the first place. You need to make your own fun in this game. The fun comes not from wars or game mechanics, but in observing and participating in political change. I've had quite a ride over the year, it's the good and bad things that make the game fun. Good luck. My only IC interaction with you was a single tech deal in the middle of a war, but hope you'll still be hanging around OOC. Quote
Argin Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 Good luck with RL bud, even though I haven't talked to you in ages I'm still sad to see you go, and if you're ever on IRC contact me so we can discuss some things. Quote
James IV Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 I would like to echo what Heft is saying. I may be a new member to NSO but after talking with their guys and getting to know them I felt at home despite it being on the different side of the web I had been on in the past. I would encourage you to look for another place where you feel at home as well. Regardless, best of luck on your travels. Quote
R3nowned Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 Who will EB nuke now??? You'll still be around on IRC, so I won't say bye Quote
