A situation handled badly

The triumvirate had handles the Portugal crisis badly, consultations should of been made by England to to Brotherhood in regards to the withdrawal plans, but they failed in doing so, and now the national assembly and senate was worried that irreparable damage had been done between Anglo-Iberian relations.

In what may have been a futile attempt at mending relations, england had requested a meeting between the leadership of Portugal to mend the damage inflicted by the hard nosed approach taken by the Triumvirate and Inquisition.

When the Portuguese delegation arrived it would be taken from heathrow airport in a convoy of armoured cars with a platoon of guardsmen riding shotgun.

On arriving to Windsor castle, the location chosen to host the meeting a company of Coldstream guards and household cavalry would hold a salute until they had passed into the castle grounds and into the castle
Itself.

Consul Gabriel, alongside Consul Aegis stood side by side in the elaborate uniforms of the Triumvirate, their red cloaks hung at ankle length, silvered breastplates gleamed in the well lit banquet hall of Windsor castle. When the delegation entered the room both Consuls strode forward and greeted them with warm expressions before offering drinks and a seat at the table.

"greetings, I am Consul Aegis, this is Consul Gabriel, may we welcome you to England, I trust the journey was pleasent and comfortable. May i ask which beverage or food you would like?" came the rough voice of the taller Consul, pausing slightly allowing a response before continuing.

Roybal asked for anything kosher as Osorio requested white wine but nothing else. The two took their seats as the two Brotherhood's Fist soldiers behind them stepped into position, arms behind their backs but still able to reach for their pistols in case something went wrong. Roybal had briefed the two earlier and warned them if they stepped out of line, they would be shot. Osorio seemed to not notice the soldiers as he calmly and slowly said "I believe we have much to discuss."

" indeed we do señor, first of all wish to apologise for how we have handled the situation at hand, it was never England intention to cause such an uproar. The ministry of defence should of shared it's withdrawal plans with you, but failed, if you read the documentation in the file infrong of you, it holds the details, you will also noticed English troops were planned to be completely out of portugal by the end of January.

For two hundred years England and Portugal have been allies and brothers in arms, we were rash to abandon our alliance so quickly. So our first priority is this, we hereby grant recognition to your Government, secondly i have a letter of commendation from the field commander in Portugal, Inquisitor andrews. In short it reads of the bravery of your soldiers and their determination to fulfil orders. Please, whatever the outcome of this meeting is, let this letter be published in your army news papers."

Osorio took a sip of his wine before speaking. "It is good that you have decided to recognize our rightful rule. As to the letter, we will certainly allow it to be run in our papers." Roybal was still reading the English documents regarding their withdrawal and did not speak. Osorio filled his silence by asking the Triumvirate, "If there is nothing else needed, are we cleared to tour England before we leave?"

"I wanted to offer up the ODP once more to begin rebuilding the damage England has done to relations between our two nations, you know better than anyone, we are honourable and we will honour a treaty. However this would have a twist.

The optional defence clause only applies for Portugal, you have the option to defend England, but you are not obliged too, however England is treaty bound to defend Portugal, not optional. It would come as part of the whole package deal, you know, economics and trade clauses.

You are of course allowed to tour England, "

"Before we can agree to any militarily binding treaty, even an optional one such as this, we cannot sign without prior approval from Athens. Therefore, we must decline at the moment, but rest assured it will be brought up before the Council. We will send you a notice regarding our decision."

The four exited the building after finishing their meal and drinks and toured England for a while before returning to Portugal.
