Many people came to hear the President's speech on the unity of the Island. Some just came for the fre wood and food supplied by the UIN government, Portugal, and Monaco. Either way, much of the southern UIN was in Douglas. President David stood inside behind a curtain and waited to go outside but he was a little afraid. Áine gave him a folding flag that made a almost perfect triangle. It was standard size, but it was still magnificent. He patted her on her head covered by her beautiful blue hair and then walked outside. President David walked outside and looked at all of his people. He chuckled to himself because of all of the red hair that was in the crowd. Nine out of ten people there had red hair, although most of them had it busheled under hats. The Irish people had an overwhelming support for the President and held him to a high regard. David was wearing a black suit with a blue tie. He had a cotton coat over his suit but didn't want to dress too extravagant. The podium he was making his way to was made of oak... Oak he thought. His Island was low on such a basic need. In his warm hands was his speech printed on plain paper. "Good evening my fellow Islanders. I wish I could be giving this speech on a more joyful occasion but unfortunately these times we are enduring are very tragic. Freezing temperatures, rising unemployment, food scarcity, these are all things that can and will be fixed. What I am scared of is not the weather. No, what I am terrified of is out Island. Over the past month, the northern nations have left the Union of Island Nations and formed their own. 'The Union of People's Republic's'. Not all of the North is Communist like the name implies. Northfront and Coastland are both socialist states. I think all of this is ridicules. We need to ensure that any man can go to a house of worship and that everyman has the right to self-liberty. But instead of doing this, the North wants to stay unified under the principals of tyranny and oppression. The southern nations have all come together and we all agree that we need something better than a Union. We need a nation. That is why, as of today December 26th, The Union of Island Nations has been dissolved and to take it's place is the United States of The Island." Douglas President David has left the United States on a diplomatic mission to a disclosed location, possibly somewhere in Ireland, to talk to Irish leaders and possibly Monaco's leaders for military support. The Vice President has been given control of the situation until the President returns to the Island. Vice President Robert has set the United States of The Island at DEFCON 2 earlier this morning. All troops are now mobilized and are making checkpoints outside of the city. Snipers have been set around the Orange House and the Capital building. Any citizen who wishes to enter the City of Douglas must be searched (not thoroughly). The United States is currently giving asylum to anyone who comes from the North although a background check will be required before they can start roaming the streets. As of now there are no fatalities in Douglas and the United States intends to keep it that way. New Dublin Today the city of New Dublin has been put on red alert. Four car bombs were prevented from being detonated earlier this morning but terrorism is still very likely and possibly inevitable. Many people from the east part of the city are being evacuated to the west. Because of New Dublin's economic importance and how they are right on the border of the Communist North, it makes it a good target to attack or terrorize. The military has been positioned outside of the city and has set up checkpoints for anyone who wishes to enter or leave the city. Transportation The train system going from New Dublin to Douglas is only running from 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. to prevent any hijackings or unexpected attacks at night. Military personal are constantly checking the rails for explosives and have set up cameras in various points. Before someone can enter the train, the must either give up or send home any sharp objects such as knives, scissors, blades, or swords. All roads going from Douglas to New Dublin have various military checkpoints and adequate lighting is being set up. All roads going to the north have been closed, barricaded, and are being patrolled. All faeries, ships, and boats going to the North have been halted until further notice. Harsh Conditions Because it is Winter, this time of the year is very hard on the people of the Island. Thanks to Monaco and Portugal, who have given us much needed humanitarian aide, most of the farms outside of the cities in the south are being fed. The North is unable to be fed by the United States government although the U.S. government is attempting to give food the the UPR to distribute. Fire wood is also being distributed and delivered at no charge to many households who can either not afford it or live in isolated locations. Military All United States military personnel have been called into service. The military is not spread thin, however it is spread. With growing aggressions from the north, plans are being made to defend the south with intentions of later invading the north. Military headquarters are in Douglas inside the Orange House. No official word has been given of what the plans are to invade. The air force is patrolling the coast and northern border and being careful not to cross over enemy borders. On foggy days, several attempts are being made to send spy planes and take pictures of enemy positions. Strategic Missiles The North and South both have approximately 100 short range (non-nuclear) missiles. The South has 35 medium ranged cruise missiles while the north only has approximately 25. The United States has a small Strategic Missile Defense System although it only covers small parts of the Capital and New Dublin. Edited December 27, 2010 by PresidentDavid Quote

PresidentDavid Posted January 4, 2011 Author Report Posted January 4, 2011 (edited) Robert rubbed his temples while he sat next to the red phone waiting for a call from someone saying something happened, or worse, the launch of a PR Cruise Missile. Cruise Missiles aren't nuclear but to the Island, they were the equivalent. The phone started to wring and Robert nearly fell out of his chair. Wring wring wring, Robert cleared his throat and then talked into the phone, "Vice President Robert here." Robert was then relieved to hear David's voice on the other line, "Hello Mr. Vice President" David laughed, "you don't sound to well." Robert leaned back in his chair and put his feet up on David's desk, "Not really David.. You have a terrifying job." David then threw a pin at Big J. who was snoring in the back of the private jet, "Look Robert, this meeting with Ireland might take a while. I need you to be prepared to do anything." Robert sat up, "I don't understand. What is it that you are asking me to do exactly?" David sat quietly for a second, "When we hang up I am going to make in a call and lower the DEFCON Level to 2. I am asking you to prepare the troops Robert. I have in-tell that says it wont be much longer until they strike. We need to throw the first blow. We have the better defenses so I know we could get through this. General Lewis McCain will be arriving at the Orange House in a hour or two, he will help you with all of this. Are you willing to do this Robert?" Robert then solemnly replied, "Yes... Mr. President." Edited January 4, 2011 by PresidentDavid Quote
PresidentDavid Posted January 13, 2011 Author Report Posted January 13, 2011 Robert sat at David's desk. The room that the President resided in had two very beautiful moments of the day. When the sun was just rising, and when the sun was setting. The effect of this could best be seen with the lights off. Natural light was so much more pure and warm them industrial, man made light. It was 19:00 and the lighting was perfect. All of the thoughts of ware and suffering escaped the man's mind. He slowly closed his eyes and enjoyed the sensation of starting to rest. There are only a few good feelings that any human beings naturally experience. This was one of them. There is no feeling like being exhausted and closing your eyes. Robert couldn't explain it himself. It was like his brain wanted itself to be aggravated until it got what it want; sleep to repair itself. The room was filled with dim lighting from the setting sun, a calm environment, and, most importantly, total silence. Robert knew he would be falling asleep in a matter of seconds so he stayed in his position in David's comfortable chair. Normally he would never put his feet up on anyone's desk but his own but this was a special occasion. Even when David was here he wasn't getting much sleep so this was something he desperately needed. Peace and tranquility was within his weak grasp. It got closer and closer... An apparently new secretary practically kicked open the door to the president's office and sound in a loud and annoying voice, "Mr. Vice President-" Robert opened his bloodshot eyes and yelled, "WHAT!" the secretary backed up a little and set the files on a side table, "Sorry to disturb you sir... The North has agreed to two guaranteed days of peace with us. I was um.. told to tell you sir." The nervous young lady closed the oak door and went outside to go cry to one of her friends that she had made a terrible first impression that the Vice President would probably forget in two minutes. Robert didn't even care to open the files. It was time to take a good nap. Quote
PresidentDavid Posted January 13, 2011 Author Report Posted January 13, 2011 Robert looked around and couldn't understand what he was seeing. Everything was black, as if it was midnight on a cloudy day, except he could perfectly see his own body as if he was standing in the sun. The floor was black, the north was black, the south was black, the east was black, and the west was black. For a while he walked, trying to feel for a wall, but nothing. Just this cold, hard, pitch black floor. Is this hell? he thought to himself. He just stood there and waited for some evil spirit to come around the corner and bight him but instead he heard a soft voice. "Robert..." it whispered, "You need to know something." it was a soft, quite, feminine voice. The voice seemed to be coming over his right shoulder but every time he turned it seemed the direction the voice was coming from turned as well. "There is no time for questions Robert.. Now listen." As much as he didn't want to, he stood firm and listened to the voice, he could tell it meant him no harm, "You mustn't listen to the man in the green suit. He will lead you to defeat. Listen to the man in the leather jacket." Robert, who was no confused, blurted out, "Who? Give me a name! Show yourself voice!" the voice began to fade away as it continued, "The leather jacket Robert... The leather jacket.........." "Wait!" he yelled. But it was to late. Vice President Robert opened his eyes. It was now dark inside the formally perfectly lit room. No lights were on, and the sun itself apparently checked in early just so Robert could get a well deserved sleep. Robert looked at his watch, "Thank God, only 20:00." He thought of his strange dream as he adapted from being asleep and resting to getting ready to be up and about to run a nation. He stretched and then slowly began to stand up and look around for something to do. "Ah the reports" he said to himself. He clumsily walked over to the side table by the big oak doors to the President's office and picked up the smooth manila folder. Inside was many pictures and papers involving the war, some of the papers were written letters from generals. Most of the letters were just questionnaires. Many generals wanted to be micro-managed because they were to afraid of being aggressive and making a mistake. A few were sincere letters that were just friendly and asking simple advice, but they all were pretty much unessential. At the end of the file was the Declaration of Cease-Fire from the north. It read that there would be no threat of war for the next two days. Robert wasn't even remotely relieved because he knew this could be a trick or some type of technique to lower their defenses. He simply sat the file down on the small table and he put the limp paper on top of it. After thinking for a few moments, Robert went back to the president's wide, finished oak desk and looked through it for paper. He finally found a blank sheet and began to write quickly. It wasn't a normal dream, he put, I know I should have been less of a hard-head and listened but I was to foolish to care. Must remember: Do NOT trust the man in the green suit Must remember: Trust the man in the leather jacket Robert set down his pin and then looked over to the two grand oak doors that were being opened. This time, a different secretary, one that aparently was very fond of Robert opened the doors with a warm smile, "Hell Mr. Vice President. General Arnold is here to talk to you. He is in conference room one." Quote
PresidentDavid Posted January 25, 2011 Author Report Posted January 25, 2011 Thousands of people crowded around Douglas International Airport while the President's plane came into view and they started cheering. Robert was waiting outside with the United States flag flying proudly over his head. Thousands of 3x5 flags were flying while the crowd waved them. If the United States of The Island was proud of one thing other than their Irish heritage, it was their flag. Everyone, including Robert himself, was surprised to see the President co-piloting his craft as it came in for final decent. Two United States fighters zoomed over the airport and circled around as the president's craft got closer to the pad. Three black-hawk helicopters came into view and landed on the helipads by the runway. The wheals screeched when they hit the runway and the plane slowed to a halt - the crowd erupted in excitement. The president stepped outside holding a five foot wooden pole with a United States flag on it and yelled out to the crowd, "God bless The Island!" He marched with his flag to Robert and gave him a handshake with and then a hug. Robert softly whispered, "Again David, people are going to get the wrong idea." David laughed and patted his good friend on the back, "I don't want to take the choppers to Douglas, let's take the train." Robert nodded and started to head towards the train station. The President is Back. Quote
