Joyeux Noël! Merry Christmas! Today is a day which we commemorate the birth of Jesus, the central figure of Christianity. Now for those who are non-Christian, it is still a day of gift giving and good old fashioned gluttony. A time where friends and family come together to meet and enjoy the festive season. This sentiment of coming together and exchanging gifts with one another can no where else be as exemplified than by an amazing and actually heartwarming event which occurred 96 years to this date almost, being a day off or so. Some of you may be familiar with what I am talking about, and for those who are not I will take great delight in explaining it. The location of this event occurred on the Western Front during World War I. This area had been known for its total brutality, extreme loss of life, terrible state of disease and carnage. Men from either side would try to take the other sides trench, only to be bogged down by the large weight of their backpacks and to be shot to bits by the enemies rifles and machine guns, that if you were lucky not to get blown up by the many artillery barrages. However, on Christmas Eve, the Germans, English, Scottish, and French forces, settled aside their arms, their differences and embracing each other as brothers and friends. Celebrating Christmas in the most beautiful fashion. Opposites are truly found together, and here is a fine example in our human history of the most gruesome and horrendous war showing one of the most beautiful acts recorded in our history. With that in mind, I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas. xoindotnler Posted December 25, 2010 Report Posted December 25, 2010 If I had wars I would defiantly offer them a ceasefire during Christmas. Just to show I don't hate the opposing forces. Quote
Leopold von Habsburg Posted December 25, 2010 Report Posted December 25, 2010 A great time it was indeeed, through it seems there is no Christmas truce in the current war. Quote

Megamickel Posted December 25, 2010 Report Posted December 25, 2010 The Blood God likes presents on Christmas, too. You would deny him his offering? Quote
Franz Joseph I Posted December 25, 2010 Author Report Posted December 25, 2010 He can have the blood of the lamb. Quote
Megamickel Posted December 25, 2010 Report Posted December 25, 2010 Your lamb is weak! The blood god demands the blood of soldiers be spilled in his honor! Soldiers who throw down their arms for a day of peace will never dine in his halls. His finest of meat and mead are reserved for those with courage! Quote
Franz Joseph I Posted December 25, 2010 Author Report Posted December 25, 2010 What good does the finest meat and mead do for those who have have no longer any use for the corporal senses? Quote
PMoses Posted December 25, 2010 Report Posted December 25, 2010 (edited) Wasn't there a scene in Band of Brothers showing something a long the same lines as this with the Germans/Americans? Something like a lady took German and American troops inside her home for Christmas dinner or something. Edited December 25, 2010 by PMoses Quote
Franz Joseph I Posted December 25, 2010 Author Report Posted December 25, 2010 Was that band of brothers? I remember seeing something like it, both sides were kinda uneasy I think. Quote
PMoses Posted December 25, 2010 Report Posted December 25, 2010 (edited)
Was that band of brothers? I remember seeing something like it, both sides were kinda uneasy I think.
May not have been band of brothers.. I actually think band of brothers showed the more gory side of it, when the battle of the bulge started on Christmas. But yeah I remember that movie with that part in it.. Both sides sat there and ate, and chit chatted but neither side let its finger off the trigger to actually enjoy it. Either way its good to see that even in something so morbid as war, we can all find peace at least one holiday of the year. O/TGE for bringing it to Planet Bob this Christmas Edited December 25, 2010 by PMoses Quote
