Uberstein Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 (edited) Colonel Mattis Söderström sat in a bar, watching the TV. More news of protests outside the King's residence, angry yells and the occasional sound of police whistles came from outside the bar. He sighed and looked at the other patrons, all fellow officers, then to the men at his table, his close friends. "Gentlemen, I believe it is time to make a move of some kind. Our king is weak, far too liberal for this modern day an age. Norway's long standing Neutrality has brought us nothing and dropped our pants on the talent show stage of the world." "But Mattis, what can we do? We're barely new recruits, you only got promoted because your Colonel stepped on a land mine." commented Joshua Norberg, Mattis's childhood friend. Mattis slams his gloved fist on the table, "We can ACT. We have guns, we have tanks, and honestly, how hard will it be to convince the army that we know what is best for this nation? We must seize control of a radio station and give the King an ultimatum, us in charge or war." "You're a madman, we took an oath.." One of the other men at the table spoke up, only to be interrupted by Mattis. "To defend NORWAY, Adis, not the KING. It is our duty to protect this country against forces that wish to harm it, and the King clearly does not have our best interests in mind. He cares only for himself and his corporate lovers! Now, are you all with me, or must I do this alone?" One by one, the 5 men agreed, and started to plot. (To Be Continued) OOC: Consider this a DOE. Edited December 24, 2010 by BaronUberstein Quote
Sargun II Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 The entire area of Ceuta and the surrounding areas, which have legally reverted back to Imperial land because of the collapse of Norway-Sweden, is being locked down. Nobody is allowed to enter or leave. Anyone attempting to do so will be detained. OOC: official IC notice that the contract regarding Ceuta now has it reverting back to me Quote
Uberstein Posted December 24, 2010 Author Report Posted December 24, 2010 Kettenheim's Office: Norway "Well then, give the order. All files in our Ceutan headquarters are to be incinerated." He hits a red button, and down in Ceuta alarms go off. Every computer, shred of paper, all shoveled into industrial furnaces. There were copies of all plans in the Norwegian headquarters, so it was simply an issue of keeping things classified. Kettenheim INC sent a letter to the new owners of Ceuta, explaining that Kettenheim INC was moving out. Quote

Uberstein Posted December 24, 2010 Author Report Posted December 24, 2010
The Empire, seeing these things, has cut all power to Ceuta as soon as the first things were being shoveled into industrial furnaces.
OOC: Furnaces can keep burning you know. O_o Anyway, enough of this back-and-forth, I have other things to write. *shrug* IC: Luckily all valuable documents had been burned, though only a few of the engineers killed themselves. The rest tried to blend in with the populace, it would be almost impossible to tell who had held what job previously. ---------- Somewhere in Oslo: *KABOOM* The door of the radio station went flying in, outside was a hilariously tiny Badger A1 tank, it's absurdly large recoilless gun smoking. "FORWARD MY BROTHERS! WE MUST TAKE THE STATION!" Cried Mattis, standing on top of the tank in full battle fatigues. Several squads of infantry stormed through the doors, taking who they could hostage and shooting any guards who opposed them. Automatic weapons helped with that. Next came the message, "People of Norway, the King has failed us, we must establish a new government, for the people, run by those who know what they're doing, not by bloodline or ideas of equality! Why should Norway care for anything but Norway? Why must we hold colonies and territories outside our land? Why do we babysit these areas? I say it is time for Norway to cast aside the chains of socialism and fight for itself, for it's OWN future! To those who protest outside the Palace, I support you, and the Army shall support you! Long live NORWAY, down with monarchy! My name is Mattis Söderström, and I will lead us to a new era!" The next day, the frustrated crowds tripled in size outside the capital buildings, chanting Söderström's name, waving Norwegian flags. It was only a matter of time... Quote
Uberstein Posted December 25, 2010 Author Report Posted December 25, 2010 One Week Later: It was literally a siege by now, the King unable to leave his residence, the only section of the army still loyal was his own guards. Söderström had toured the country, rallying the populace and convincing the army to follow his cause. The cries were not for an election, just for the removal of the King and a new constitution, with Mattis at the head of the country. [Stortingsbygningen; Oslo] The Parliament had been dissolved by force, those who resisted placed under house arrest by military police. Mattis had wasted no time installing who he throught should be running the country, economists, close friends, fellow officers, and a few old bureaucrats from the days of Ubersteinia. They sat in the chamber, having voted on several issues already, but there was one that still needed to be dealt with. Mattis stood behind his podium, dressed in full uniform, TV cameras flickered on. "People of Norway, people of the world, as we speak, my men are storming the King's palace, I have assembled a NEW Parliament to run this nation into it's rightful position. Neutrality, refusing to stand by our principles, and blatant colonization of non-Norwegian territories, and gross negligence of the will of the people. These are the crimes I charge our king and old leadership with. I declare, with the end of the Monarchy, the existence of the Norwegian Chancellorship. I invite all diplomats who believe they have a historical or ethnic claim to non-Norwegian lands we hold to Oslo. I can promise you, we will not sit back and let Europe dissolve as the old Norway would have, we will stand with Europe and ensure Norway's rightful place in the world." -Private- ADI and Kettenheim INC have been contracted to compete for the contract to manufacture standardized weapons for Norway. ADI shall also be phased out of all administrative positions as soon as possible. ADI's business shall not be otherwise infringed unless they violate the new laws. Quote
Bacharth Posted December 25, 2010 Report Posted December 25, 2010 A representative from Germany was sent to Oslo to watch over the proceedings. He would be travelling by plane, and wearing a simple black suit with a red tie, complete with a lapel pin of the Germanic flag. Quote
Representatives would be dealt with on a first come first serve basis, and thus the Germanic representative was lead to the Parliament (After being frisked for weapons of course). He was led to Mattis's private office, and the new chancellor stood up to greet him. "Ah, welcome to Norway, perhaps I can get you something to drink? I hope you are here because you recognize my new government." He grins and gestures towards a liquor cabinet, "Akevitt? You're just in time for Juleøl as well." Quote
Bacharth Posted December 25, 2010 Report Posted December 25, 2010 The bald man bowed his head as he was introduced to Mattis. "I have never tried Akevitt, but I hear it's great. I'd love some, thank you." He took a seat and then said in Danish accented Norwegian, "Well, our foreign affairs department is mostly on vacation, I am one of the few diplomats that doesn't have family ties to keep them in Frankfurt or Vienna, this is mainly a gesture of friendship between our two governments. Innsbruck is ready to offer recognition, the von Lübeck family being of Scandinavian descent themselves. Berlin is hard to get a hold of sometimes, especially when half the government is either under a tree or in some norse ritual." He chuckled, never being one for the religiousness of the season anyway. Quote
Margrave Posted December 26, 2010 Report Posted December 26, 2010 Norway's neighbor would watch with some concern and interest as the nation fell into revolution. The Hanseatic Republic of Finland would send a diplomat as soon as the siege ended, inquiring as to the fate of the Norway/ Sweden territories, as well as to set up diplomatic discussions with the nation in general. He smiles and pours a glass for both of them, and sits down at his deck across from the diplomat, "I have never been a Christmas man myself, though I can see the irony that I have brought the gift of new leadership to this nation right in the nick of time. Excuse my ignorance, but I have not looked into Germany's political system much, how is it that Innsbruck can offer recognition separate from Berlin? I don't mind, of course, I'm simply curious." Things would seem a mixture of tense and happy, police were everywhere, ensuring that the protesters were encouraged to go home and not linger now that a new leader was in charge. The military was everywhere, from off-duty soldiers in cafe's and bars, to at-attention soldiers outside government buildings. The diplomat also had a soldier assigned to him at all times, supposedly for his safety, though they would wait outside the hotel room to assure privacy. Quote
Bacharth Posted December 26, 2010 Report Posted December 26, 2010 He nodded, "It's alright, our system is quite a confusing one. We are a triumvirate system, however Innsbruck is just as much a center of government as Berlin is. When the Gothic Germans and the Nordics Germans merged, they found it easier to separate the minor ruling between the two 'regions'. Therefore, military, internal affairs, policing, and even some laws are divided along the 'Weisswurstaquator,' the line between south and north. It still somewhat exists, as the von Lübeck had to take drastic measures to re-germanicize the people of Gothia. My people are individualistic, and very religious to the Germanic gods. Only with integration, our governments believe, can our people be integrated into one Germany. And, that has already happened, since the classic 'Lander' have been restored." Quote
"Ah, I see, so it would be best to confirm recognition and any possible negotiations with both 'halves' of the German government. My main concern right now, is the separation of the Swedish people. This simply cannot last, why should a nationality be split for political reasons, families split or forced to chose to live under one nation or another just to remain united?" He unrolls a map on the desk, "There are three clear options, either Germany gains Norwegian Sweden, Norway gains German Sweden, or we both commit ourselves to a single unified, sovereign Sweden. I prefer the last option, but it is all open for negotiation." Quote
Bacharth Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 Henrik looked at the map, nodding. "I know for a fact Tyr has talked with Berlin about creating a sovereign Danish state with Denmark, minus Schleswig-Holstein, but with the addition of Gothia/Scania. Tyr has also toyed with the idea of a Danish-Swedish state, since the parts of our population in Denmark and Sweden are identifying themselves more with the Germanic ideal, rather than single, separated states. Nordheim, which is Germanic northern Sweden, is a large part of the Union, with Asgaard becoming a major cultural capital. Making that separate from the Germanic Union as a whole will make the population uneasy, I think. When the Triums get back from their Jule celebrations, I shall have them contact you on these matters, because Scandinavian stability and cohesion are top priorities for the Germanic Union." Quote
Uberstein Posted December 30, 2010 Author Report Posted December 30, 2010 "It is certainly something I wish to discuss. Now, shall we move on? I believe it would be beneficial if your government gave mine recognition as soon as possible, it is always nice to have a settled power ensure one's own existence. If anything, it would help with the Swedish talks. Sorry if I seem to be a hurry, but there are many things I must get done, and I know we will revisit this issue at a later date." ------- Meanwhile, the Finnish representative was driven to the Parliament Building, as negotiations would happen soon. Quote
Bacharth Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 "I completely understand. It's busy work organizing a government. Just go easy on your diplomats," he chuckled. "Herr von Lübeck was always giving us a hard time during the setup of the Gothisches Reich. I'll make sure to put recognition of your government on the top of the list for Tyr, and send it on to the Northern diplomatic team. Thank you for your time Chancellor. I hope this will be the beginning of good relations between our governments." Quote
Uberstein Posted December 31, 2010 Author Report Posted December 31, 2010 Mattis shakes the German diplomat's hand, "And I hope you have a safe journey back to Germany. As a toast to our future friendship, I'll let you keep the bottle." He picks up the bottle of Akevitt and hands it over. When the German Diplomat left, the Finnish diplomat was brought in to Mattis's office. Quote
