HHAYD Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 (edited)
To: Minister of Foreign Affairs in Disparu From: President Natas of Midwest Republic SUBJECT: Economic Opportunities To whomever it may concern, I wish to talk about our economic developments as soon as possible in Jubilife. If that's not possible, then it can be held in the Chicago. Signed, John Natas
Edited December 22, 2010 by HHAYD Quote
Pikachurin Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 PRIVATE The message from this 'Midwest Republic' was a rather surprising one; they had never even reached out for diplomatic relations with them before; in fact, they haven't even recognized their existence! Nevertheless, a reply was quickly typed up just to see what exactly they wanted. What exactly do you have in mind? Regards, /s/ Aaron Yvonne Minister of Finance, Federation of Disparu Member, Empire Party of Disparu
Quote
HHAYD Posted December 23, 2010 Author Report Posted December 23, 2010 (edited)
To: Aaron Yvonne, Minister of Finance of the Federation of Disparu From: President of Midwest Republic Reply: We plan on building high speed rail, though international travel would be an annoyance and inefficient if passengers and cargo must be transferred to another train as soon as they reach the border train stations. A train designed to operate on a wide track will not operate on another track that is slightly narrower or wider. I am also wondering if we could discuss about our trades with each other. I prefer not to discuss it in Chicago since the entire federal government currently resides in temporary buildings.
Edited December 23, 2010 by HHAYD Quote

I already see many problems with it. First of all, the most efficient rail link that will connect our two nations directly will have to pass through the Protectorate of Ontario, a protectorate where a sovereign government unfriendly to Disparu could rise up with the support of the people...such an event has already happened before. Secondly, even if the status quo remains or a friendly sovereign government rises in Ontario, the lands where the rail will be built are mostly undeveloped and have unsuitable terrain. The construction of such a link will severely burden your fledging new nation. Why not use existing rail lines? This brings up another good question—why go through the pain of building a railway to us, if you can just use existing railways to trade with, say, the Empire of Pravus Ingruo or the Republic of Amarna? If you are, however, serious on establishing a trade relation with us, it will have to be done via air in the long-term. Of course, the Government will not lean towards a newly-developed nation such as yourself, due to various reasons (such as political and economic instability during a new nation's first few years). We also have several links to other nations at the moment, so looking for valuable trade partners is not one of the Government's concerns at the moment.
