Sal Paradise
Fraud Allegations for New President (Canuckistan Press) SIPATAU, Skeena - Byung-chull Kim was sworn in today as the second President of the Republic amid allegations of vote machine rigging in his landslide victory over incumbent Peter Mansbridge last month. Anonymous sources have revealed to several news agencies, including the Canuckistan Press, that they were hired by Mr. Kim's party, the Free Canuckistan Party (FCP) to hack voter machines and reprogram them to produce a victory for their candidate. Mr. Kim's press secretary, Seong Jun Bae has denied FCP involvement in election rigging and suggested the accusations were part of an ongoing plot by corporate interests to discredit the party and the President. Such a plot was a common theme for the FCP during the campaign. In its first session since the election, the National Assembly, controlled by a minority coalition of the Liberal Conservative Coalition (LCC) and the Conservative Liberal Coalition (CLC), has ordered a full investigation. ------ Immigrants Flock to Canuckistan Shores (The Sipatau Sun) BELLA BELLA, Skeena - Some 23,000 immigrants have arrived at the port of Bella Bella since the signing of the new Immigration Reform Bill last month. This huge and sudden influx of immigrants has swamped the city and taxed the Department of Immigration and Citizenship's resources and slowed down the processing of new arrivals. "Unlike other states," commented an anonymous DoIC worker, "Canuckistan is a free country and the government doesn't have to provide new immigrants with welfare or other services, but for the ease of processing we provide translators and with all these new immigrants, the department has already blown its entire annual budget this month." New immigrants are granted citizenship on arrival provided they denounce citizenship in their country of birth. With Canuckistan's declining birthrate and booming economy, demand for skilled and unskilled workers is high. ------ Opinion: Our Christian Nation at Risk Hysterical Christian Monthly - "With the new immigration law passed by the outgoing Mansbridge administration, the Satan-hugging forces of Liberal Conservatism have unleashed a wave of heathen filth on our country! While the majority of new immigrants to Canuckistan are, thank the Lord, Christians, our once pure Christian nation now plays host to over 8,000 Norse Pagans, Jews, Muslims and African whatever they ares. And if that's not bad enough, there are even atheists entering this country now. It won't be long now until Christians are a minority! Hysterical Christian Monthly calls on President Kim to repeal the new immigration law before it's too late." Sal Paradise
French Canadian Monarchist Party Formed (National Mail) SIPATAU, Skeena - A new political party was founded today in Sipatau by a group of newly arrived French Canadian immigrants. "We feel that Canuckistan is the true successor to our ancestral country, Canada," said party Anglophone spokesman Stéphane Tremblay, "this is why we came here in the first place. And since Canada of old was a monarchy, we believe so should Canuckistan." When asked about French Canadian affinity for secession in historic Canada, M. Tremblay replied, "that's very much the point. See, the more Canuckistan becomes like the true Canada, the more we will become like true French Canadians. We don't really want our own independent state, but rather our own increasingly autonomous province where we can !@#$%* and moan about our oppression while oppressing our own religious and linguistic minorities and forcing the rest of the country to pay for our entitlement programs." The new political party will be called l'Alliance Royale, or the Royal Alliance in English, and has adopted a constitutional monarchy as its preferred form of monarchy. If elected, l'Alliance Royale will ask the head of the House of Windsor to take the throne as King or Queen of Canuckistan. At the moment, who that is isn't exactly clear. Sal Paradise
Kim Administration Cancels PGS Defense Contracts (National Mail) SIPATAU, Skeena - Following up on an election promise, President Kim's Secretary of Defense, Valerie Marcuzzo, announced the cancellation of all government defense contracts with Paradise Government Systems. Under the previous administration, PGS was paid to run the Canuckistan Armed Forces. "While the administration supports Canuckistan's libertarian values and constitution," said Secretary Marcuzzo during today's press conference, "the state does need to have some involvement in the security of the nation. Handing over control of the military to a corporation crosses the line between economic liberty and corporate dictatorship." The government has ordered a six month transition period in which PGS control of the military will be handed over to the direct control of the state. Chief PGS advisers to the military, including senior-most adviser Ruby Dhalla, have already been fired from their positions. The constitution limits the state to act only on matters of security and foreign affairs. Political analysts suspect the government's next move will be to regain control of police services, which are also contracted to Paradise Government Systems. Free Canuckistan Party Members of the National Assembly have suggested the nation review its constitution in order to expand the powers of the government. Sal Paradise
Kim Trial Begins (Canuckistan Press) SIPATAU, Skeena - Supreme Court Chief Justice Quinton Dunbar heard opening statements today in the trial of deposed President Byung-chull Kim. Under the constitution, only members of the Supreme Court are allowed to preside over the trial of any sitting or former president and vice-president. Mr. Kim pleaded not guilty to the charges and his lawyer echoed a familiar line from the Kim campaign suggesting a vast corporate conspiracy to discredit his client. The prosecution preempted some of these allegations in their opening statement, arguing that the judicial system was now under military control and Paradise Government Systems no longer exercised any power over the government. Supporters of Mr. Kim, holding a demonstration outside of the courthouse, were dispersed with tear gas. There were 17 arrests. Other trials for less prominent members of the Free Canuckistan Party also began today. Rebirth of the RCMP (National Mail) SIPATAU, Skeena - Back when Old World settlers were colonizing the lands now comprising our nation, and the lands of some of our neighbours, the ruling Canadian state at the time created a frontier police force to keep order in the wild northern lands. This force was called the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, or the RCMP, and their members (sometimes) affectionately referred to as Mounties. With policing powers now in the hands of the military, the military government of Canuckistan announced today that it will be reorganization its police force into the Republic of Canuckistan Mounted Police. Colonel Allan Chiu of the Department of Internal Security and Defense said the new policing body is meant to better facilitate the policing of the civilian population, as its predecessor organization was only designed to meet the needs of the military. Opinion: Is Canuckistan Freedom under Threat? Bella Bella Herald - Canucks are grateful to our men and women in the armed forces for stepping up after the solar flare crisis and bringing order back to the nation. And with the president now being tried for election fraud, it makes sense that the military continue its rule as there is no other legitimate government to take its place. But how long does the military intend to run this country? The triumvirate has not set a time table or any substantive criteria for returning the nation to civilian rule. If the threat from terrorists and revolutionaries still exists to such an extent that the we need the provisional government for our safety, why are so many troops now stationed in the Extra-Judicial Zone? Why is the government focusing its policing efforts on foreign states? So far, military rule has not been heavy handed. Despite the constitution being suspended, there are no reports of the government violating the rights of citizens. Those arrested for their activities during the period of anarchy, and those arrested in the Kim administration, are all being given fair trials. But the people must remain vigilant. We must allow the threat of terrorism or revolution to scare us into accepting an indefinite military occupation of the government. The triumvirate needs to reassure us that they will step down. They need to make more substantial moves towards returning power to the civilian government. They need to prepare for another presidential election. And the National Assembly needs to hold them to do, and start aggressively asserting itself more. We must not forget that even though the constitution is suspended and our current leaders are not democratically elected, they still govern through our consent. Sal Paradise
Nordic Community Centre Round Table Discussion Moderator: A proposed Nordic Community Centre tucked away near a fjord north of Sipatau has been stirring up controversy lately. Organizers are calling it a benevolent society and a community outreach program. Detractors claim it will be a centre of Old World terror from which practitioners of the Norse religion will loot and pillage the coastal towns of Canuckistan. Tonight we are joined by Knut Knutsen, spokesman for the Nordic Community Centre, and Christopher Neville, a member of the National Assembly for the Conservative Liberal Coalition. Thanking you for joining us gentlemen. Mr. Knutsen, we'll start with you. What is the purpose the of community centre? Knutsen: As you know Rick, the Norse religion is the second most common religion in Canuckistan after Christianity. While our numbers may be small, our community is mostly located in Sipatau and save for a few of converts and newborns, we are all immigrants to this country. Canuckistan has no welfare system and thus we have to look after ourselves. We need this community centre to better practice our faith, raise our children according to our values and help out the community in times of need. Moderator: But why in the fjord, so far away from Sipatau? Knutsen: For spiritual purposes, it draws us back to our roots. It also allows us educate our children in traditional ways of Nordic life, away from the big city. Moderator: Mr. Neville, you are against the community centre. Would you care to tell our viewers why? Neville: All of this is merely a cover for their hidden agenda. Mr. Knutsen talks about educating children in traditional Nordic lifestyles. Well, a traditional Nordic lifestyle is one of raping and pillaging. What this community centre really is is a Viking training camp! Knutsen: That isn't true. Neville: Have you seen the pictures of the proposed design? It's a Viking drinking hall! Does a drinking hall sound like a suitable place for children? Knutsen: It's not a drinking ha... Neville: And they want to build a boat launch and shipyard too! Knutsen: The Nordic people have a proud seafaring tradition. We only want to provide adequate facilities to engage in boating and boat building. Neville: Longboats you mean. Knutsen: Well, yes that is the style. But you must understand that our religion is a religion of peace. Only a few fanatics a thousand years ago took to the looting and pillaging... Neville: And raping! Knutsen: .... we Nordic people have had a long history of peace. Some in recent times, of course, have perverted our name, but you cannot condemn all Nordic people for the acts of a few. Neville: Let me read to you a quote from Mr. Knutsen when he announced the centre at a Norse luncheon, 'this new centre, it's boat launch and shipyard, will help us preserve our proud viking heritage'. How do you explain that? Moderator: Mr. Knutsen? Knutsen: Viking just means a sea expedition. It can mean for trade, diplomacy, exploration, or in our case just boating. Neville: It means murder! It means marauding up and down the coast, raiding towns and sacking monasteries. Then they'll colonize our lands and make their heathen leaders our kings! Knutsen: Aha! There you have it. He calls me a heathen! This is all about his religious intolerance. Well, sir, we Norsemen have the right to practice our religion in this country and we will not be intimidated by bigots like you. Neville: Knutsen are you or are you not a Viking!? Knutsen: Viking doesn't mean what you think it means. It's a sea expedition. Nothing more! Neville: You didn't answer the question. Are you a Viking? And do you not believe that the only way into Valhalla is by dying on the battlefield? Knutsen: That's taking it literally. Dying on the battlefield can also mean, struggling to do your best in... Neville: Listen to this claptrap! The man's a Viking suicide bomber. He will kill everything in his path so that he can drink with his one-eyed heathen god in Valhalla. Knutsen: Sir, I find your insinuations insulting. Neville: How do you think Odin drinks with only one eye? He probably can't tell when his cup is close enough to his mouth and spills mead down his shirt like a child. Hahaha! Knutsen: You chinless son of a !@#$%*! How dare you... Knutsen reaches below the desk and pulls out a large battle axe. Knutsen: AAAARRGGGHHH!!!!!! Neville: See! What did I tell you? Look at the berserker rage in his eyes! Neville takes a pistol out of his jacket pocket. Neville: Ha! What now? You gonna stop a bullet with that ax? Moderator: Whoa whoa! Everybody calm down! There's no need for.. Knutsen leaps over the desk swinging the axe wildly, striking the boom operator in the shoulder and sending him flying across the studio. Neville fires a shot at Knutsen's chest, but the enraged Norsemen barely slows down. Neville unloads the pistol into Knutsen's chest then throws the empty gun at him. Neville: Jesus Christ! Mr. Neville's funeral would be a closed casket. Edited August 27, 2010 by Sal Paradise
Sal Paradise
Experts Report Voter Machine Tampering (Canuckistan Press) SIPATAU, Skeena - Expert witnesses brought in by the prosecution for the Kim trial testified today that their analysis of the voting machines used in last year's presidential election showed that the machines had been tampered with to produce a favourable outcome for President Kim. According to testimony, the machines, which were provided by Paradise Government Systems, were designed to turn every second vote for Kim's opponent into a vote for Kim, accounting for Kim's stunning landslide victory. The prosecution used the evidence to counter the defense's claims that their client is the victim of far-reaching corporate conspiracy to keep him out of office. The prosecution argued that the opposite was the case: that there was a conspiracy to have Kim elected. The defense countered by arguing that none of the evidence links President Kim or his party to the tampering. The government has announced that regardless of the outcome of the trial, it will render the results of the election void and launch a full investigation into Paradise Government Systems for possible election fraud. Religious Minorities on the Rise The Columbian - New research shows that the religious make-up of the country changed markedly during the solar flare crisis. According to a study released by the School of Inter-Faith Studies at Sipatau University, during the crisis, more and more people turned to religion, and new religions in particular, to see themselves through the troubled times. "When the nation was without power and in anarchy," says Professor Allison Davis of Sipatau University, "people needed something solid to hold onto. Instead of turning to traditional, established religions in Canuckistan, however, they turned to new ones." Researchers say that the public sees certain Christian denominations as ordinary and uninspiring because they are the dominant faiths in the country and their strictest adherents tend to be over 60. Newer religions, brought in by recent immigrants, on the other hand, are exotic, fresh and exciting. The Norse religion, Inuit Animism and Islam all saw substantial increases in numbers. Less popular forms of Christianity, such as Orthodoxy, also saw increases. Judaism saw no significant increase. "Most people don't really see Judaism as cool," offers Davis, "and there is a perception that conversion is difficult. These is also a lot of non-religious history and culture that comes with the religion that, we suspect, even the worst poseurs feel uncomfortable trespassing on." Knutsen Captured (National Mail) SIPATAU, Skeena - Knut Knutsen was a found and arrested today by Sipatau police and charged with the murder of National Assembly member Christopher Neville. Mr. Knutsen murdered Neville with an antique Viking battle-axe on national television several days ago. He fled the television studio and was found hiding in a warehouse near Sipatau Port. The Nordic Community Centre, that Mr. Knutsen was representing on the television program, issued a statement condemning the murder and distancing itself from Knutsen. The statement emphasizes the centre's commitment to peace and efforts to combat negative stereotypes of Nordic peoples as blood-thirsty Viking marauders. Detractors of the planned community centre are saying Knutsen's actions only further proves that the Norse religion is inherently violent and a threat to Canuck society. Sal Paradise
Kim Acquitted, Others Convicted President Byung-chull Kim has been found not guilty of voter fraud by Supreme Court Chief Justice Quinton Dunbar. In his ruling, Chief Justice Dunbar cited that it was clear that voting fraud had a occurred on such an audacious scale, that it assuredly won Kim the election, but declared that there was no evidence for Kim's direct involvement or the involvement of any of his senior staff. Most of the fraud was carried about by lower ranking FCP workers and election officials. In a separate ruling, the Supreme Court voted unanimously to void the results of the election. All FCP National Assembly members arrested and tried for involvement in the presidential election fraud were also acquitted. An investigation into the National Assembly election found no evidence of any fraud. In total some 38 people were arrested and sentenced. The military government, commenting on the ruling, announced that President Kim would not be permitted to return to his position without another election. Vice President Mansbridge, Kim's opponent, will also be removed.

Funded by the National Association for the Advancement of Pale People, NordTV was created in a bid to introduce Canucks to healthier aspects of Nordic culture following reports of widespread public prejudice towards the Norse religion. Unfortunately, while interest was initially strong, ratings sharply declined in the following weeks. "It was just so !@#$@#$ boring!" complains television aficionado Gunther Sorenson, "I'm of Nordic ancestry and even I couldn't put up with it. Every show was a putrid parade of the same banal German or Scandinavian nationalism. I couldn't tell the difference between them. Germanic culture is all fine and good, but keep it to a couple of shows. At one point, the batteries in my remote died and I couldn't change the channel away from yet another militarist rambling on and on about the heritage of some long dead medieval trade federation, and I swear I contemplated shoving that remote down my throat and ending it right there. Fortunately, my girlfriend got up and changed it manually. I didn't know you could do that." Sal Paradise
Canuckistan Opens Disaster Relief Agency (National Mail) Bella Bella, Skeena - Citing the civilian government's lack of response to hard struck areas during the solar flare crisis, the military government today announced the creation of the Disaster and Emergency Relief Program (DERP). "Libertarian policies, though cherished by the people, failed the nation when the solar flare hit," said General Babul Ganoush during the government's announcement of the program today, "if, God forbid, we are struck again by such a calamity, we cannot rely on the private sector to provide. As much as we hate to admit it, the government is the only organization in the country capable of organizing an effective response to a disaster of that scale." Critics are calling DERP a dangerous expansion of government power from a military dictatorship that has consistently demonstrated its willingness to strip away the nation's libertarian institutions. General Ganoush answered these criticisms in his announcement, "no organization in the country is more libertarian or more anti-socialist than the military," he said, "and it is just this kind of program that will prevent the collapse of the state and the threat of communist revolution next time. When civilian rule is restored, it will have the tools it needs to keep itself from collapsing again." As part of the program, the government has organized disaster response teams in every province of the country and the AlberSask territory, which will co-ordinte efforts and work closely with the military in the event of a disaster. Transportation networks and ports will be expanded to allow faster transport of aid supplies. DERP will also serve a role in providing disaster relief to foreign nations. Opinion: The Tech Must Flow (Chapeau Aficiando) - Critics are decrying the government's Disaster and Emergency Relief Program as one step closer to Soviet-style communism. While these arguments may be as stupid as wearing a wide-brimmed hat on a windy day, they also fail to realize some of the less charitable applications of DERP. With expanded land, air and ocean transportation networks, corporate and public technology importers will be able to increase their acquisition of sweet, juicy technology, and effectively distribute it to the tech hungry regions of the country, urban and suburban Sipatau and the formerly GLP oppressed prairies. After the collapse of the Atlantan state, the islanders voted to join Canuckistan, bucking the trend of other Caribbean Atlantis territories that all voted to join Louisiana instead. "The Grand Turks and Caicos Islands have a history of close relations with Canada," said a historian of the islands, "in the twentieth century, several proposals were made to join the islands to Canada, but due to constitutional problems it never happened (OOC: this is true). When the people were asked to decide their fate, nostalgia for this old relationship was rekindled." Rear Admiral Lancer will establish Canuckistan's administrative operations in the islands' capital Cockburn; yeah, you read that right. "Despite the navy's love of innuendo," said a naval spokesman in Sipatau today, "I can assure you that Cockburn is the actual historical name of the capital." This tropical paradise boasts a population of 32,000 people all of whom have been granted full Canuckistan citizenship and will be administered as a special federal territory, like Alberta and Saskatchewan. The government expects to established an elected assembly and incorporate political institutions into Canuckistan faster than AlberSask. The islands will be given extensive self-governing powers. Under this system, Canuckistan will maintain control of the islands' defense and foreign affairs, while a newly constituted All Islands Government with manage other domestic issues: ranging from policing, infrastructure, education, health care etc. While residents of the islands will keep the rights inherent to Canuckistan citizenship, the new government will create its own constitution. According to the military government on the islands, this will allow the people to create a government in keeping with their history and values. "We will guide the process to insure that the system is some form of democracy," said Rear Admiral Lancer at a press conference today, "but if the people want a state less libertarian than the one in Canuckistan, we will honour that choice. Most AlberSaskans are exercising their right to free speech, expressing their views on how the government should be run. Opinion seems evenly divided between straight capitalism and straight socialism. And while Canuckistan politics tends to label anything to the left of libertarianism as "socialism", it seems that in the AlberSask Territory these so-called socialists are actually calling for real socialist policies. There appears to be little common ground between the two camps. Political observers are startled by the stark polarity of politics in the former GLP provinces. A smaller minority of protesters are calling for the withdrawal of Canuckistan forces in the territory. The military is calling these people seditious subversives and FEO provocateurs. Plans to speed up the deportation of GLP citizens are being considered. The end of military rule and the establishment of local and integrated government will be delayed until these issues are resolved. The governor of the territory, Brigadier General Gordon H. Biddiscombe, has suggested that a devolved form of government, similar to the one announced in the Turks and Caicos Islands is in the works. Sal Paradise
Nationalization of Alberta/Saskatchewan Oil (National Mail) Calgary, AlberSask Territory - The Governor of the AlberSask territory, Brigadier General Gordon H. Biddiscombe, announced government plans to nationalize all oil and gas resources in Alberta and Saskatchewan in the interest of national security. These were previously in the hands of the GLP state and various private interests. "We cannot allow the profits of this valuable resource going to fund anti-Canuck organizations in the GLP terror state," said Governor Biddiscome during the announcement, "with nationalization, AlberSask oil and gas will power Canuckistan industry and its sale in the international market will increase the wealth of the nation." Critics are calling the nationalization an assault on economic freedom. "We understand the rationale for taking the oil away from our enemies," says Giovanna Treviño, a spokesperson from Canucks Against Socialism, "but these resources should be sold to private Canucks, not become part of an expanding government bureaucracy." A new government agency, the National Energy Commission will manage extraction and refinement. The prairie provinces are rich with oil and natural gas, most of which is concentrated in Alberta. Sal Paradise
Political Party Registrations Surge (The Columbian) - With rumours that the military will soon call an election and begin the process of restoring civilian government, groups of like-minded Canucks are beginning to register political parties with the Department of Elections. The types of parties range from the traditional to the radical to the eccentric. Pollsters report that this coincides with major drops in support for the three main parties represented in the National Assembly: the Liberal Conservative Coalition, the Conservative Liberal Coalition and the Free Canuckistan Party. The LCC and the CLC have taken the worse hits, as people are claiming they've realized that they are in fact wings of the same corporatist party, just as the FCP had claimed all along. This doesn't help the FCP, however, as despite being acquitted of electoral fraud several months ago, the stigma of the trial still lingers in voters. New parties registered include, The Social Democratic Party The Columbian Party (a right of centre liberal party) The Prairie Unity Party (advocating the integration of AlberSask) The Neo-Conservative Party The Christian Family Party The Caribbean Union The Nordic Rights Party (fighting discrimination against Nordic peoples) The United Empire Loyalists (an imperialist party) The Gonzo Canuckistan (a branch of the Gonzo International) The Sontagistas (supporters of Colonel Sontag's militarist philosophy) These parties will join already registered parties, the aforementioned LCC, CLC and FCP, the Royal Alliance and the Canuckistan Community Party in contesting the next election, whenever that is.
