The Mediterranean Parliament

Recommended Posts

"Following the withdrawal of the Islamic Union of Maghreb due to intolerance of a nation, the delegate of Monaco feels this is not good faith of which we joined together to form this parliament. The Mediterranean comprises of two different continents with vastly different countries, religion, culture. From the Islam centre of northern Africa where some of the greatest Kingdoms existed to the Catholic Church. Seeing how España isn't willing to tolerate this we find them breaking the very Preamble of this Parliament when we signed it in good faith. As such we motion to expel España from the MEMU, ignorant, intolerant governments have no place in a Parliament as vastly as ours. "New Cadia votes nay against this motion not because it supports some inherent racism, but rather because it is not within the rights of the MEMU to delegate what opinions a certain nation may hold. The fact remains that the de facto state religions that rest in our respective nations remain dominant for particular reason and should they be overturned in rapid progression because of an influx of another religion, opinionated rhetoric will (no doubt) soon follow. We'd also like to point out that Islam is not a race, but rather a religion, which makes a very clear distinction. And to jump to such a conclusion would mastermind a scary precedence within this parliament.

In finality, we vote nay particularly because España will still be a Mediterranean state, whether you, we, or some other nation, likes it or not. Instead of acting so petty in response to such charged statements, it would be a better recourse to contact España privately and air your disdain to them. Trotting around the parliament stage insinuating that the entire populace of España are innate racists because their government disagrees with a particular reason is not, in our mind, justification enough to expel them. Even in history's past, España has had great trials and tribulations dealing directly with Islam. While that doesn't grant them justification to discriminate an entire religion (as a whole), it also doesn't grant us justification to make a brash decision."

"Are you suggesting we are racist toward the same colored and historically indifferent[genetically] peoples, Monaco? We are far from ignorant and intolerant but caring for our people's wishes. We are NOT breaking the preamble of this Parliament because we have an opinion, suggesting otherwise would be hypocrisy. We thank New Cadia for their support in this matter, as for Athens... We do not value a bandwagon."

"The fact is that the opinions of Espana are effectively keeping the Mediterranean Economic and Military Union contained to a single continent, Africa is becoming Islamist and we have to deal with it. However Northern Africa is just as much Mediterranean as is Espana or Athens or New Cadia.

This is also in response to false accusations made by Espsna towards Athens about our recent territorial gains on the Iberian peninsula accusing us of imperialism and fraud. While I can live with both accusations they go go against the very spirit of the Union where differences are not voiced in public but in private. As the charter bans us from ruling on the internal matters of Espana the only way to truly voice our opposition is by a cancellation and we can not in good faith sit at the same table as a nation that is willing to destroy Mediterranean unity based on the religion of candidates."

"So the straw that broke the camel's back lies in this discussion. We understand this sentiment and were not aware of these accusations. We also agree that, geographically, the Mediterranean comprises of North Africa along with southern Europe, but our point is that instead of reacting to their public statements (which were redacted, though we all heard them say it), we talk it over instead of jumping straight to a vote of expulsion. If, at that point, it's recognized that there is no room for compromise, then New Cadia would support a motion to expel Espana.

"We have not broken this treaty in any manner what so ever. We have voiced our opinions, we have retracted our statements for the sake of the Union. The motion to expel España is not in compliance as stated in the Union's charter;
"Article VIII – Expulsions:
Section 1: Any representative to the Parliament may issue a motion to expel another country from the Union.
Section 2: For such an expulsion to pass it has to be proven that the country involved has violated this treaty, in addition all members(the country involved excluded) must vote in favor of such an expulsion."
There is no clause directly nor indirectly stating a member nation may not reject based on their own ideals or on the religion, government, or ideals of an applicant nation. Further more, there is no article nor clause that states we[España] may be removed based on the reason(s) behind our vote. Our vote has not broken any rules, regulations, or policies of the Union and this motion has no basis by the charter's means."

After making the above statement, Mr. Raquel addresses the message from Austria.

"España votes AYE to the membership of Austria."

We believe it has clearly broken the first article of this charter. We signed this charter in good faith for the better of the Mediterranean Unity. The Mediterranean consists of North Africa and Europe and with your original intent to decline the Islamic Union based on their religious believes alone while also throwing out accusations to other members of the Union has clearly shown the good faith with which we have signed this treaty is non-existent in Espana's case. As such was the reasoning spelt out in our original motion to expel.

"Would Ireland please explain a bit more on their goals and plans with the new French land and the exact location."
"If you would be so kind, my nation is the Kingdom of Ireland, not Ireland. As to the exact location, The following territories have voted to join the Kingdom of Ireland.

1. Alsace
2. Aquitaine
3. Auvergne
4. Bourgogne
5. Bretagne
6. Centre
7. Franche-Comte
8. Ile-de-France
9. Languedoc-Roussillon
10. Limousin
11. Lorraine
12. Midi-Pyrenees
13. Pays de la Loire
14. Poitou-Charentes
15. Rhone-Alpes

So, as you can see all of the Mediterranean land with the exception of PACA (which voted to join with Monaco) decided to join the Kingdom. As to goals and plans - the Kingdom of Ireland will continue to seek greater relations with neighboring nations and continue to uphold the security of the French people."

We agree and thus see no room for compromise, Espana must leave.

Let us hope the remainder of the parliament is not doing the same. New Latium has received no clue at all whether or not our request has even been considered. We would appreciate it if this noble parliament would consider our request.
