I for one am shocked that more blue alliances declined the opportunity to be in a bloc with such a calm, collected and gracious character as Mr Maximus here.

Blocs in general have a selective membership, at least since the Continuum is gone, which naturally limitates their size to a certain level. Based on the standards of these days that it's not likely you're going to see massive MDoAP blocs. This makes it easier and even possible to do some objective analysis on bloc gains or losses.

NOIR on the other hand has the following requirements for admission:

Which explains its broad size. There's so many alliances in there that whatever effect one has on something is quickly diluted by the ammount of other alliances producing different effects. Ultimatelly, this makes the statistical analysis useless, unless in case of great catastrophe, which I think defeats a bit the purpose of its presence in this thread other than NOIR bloc members feeling good about how they have more score than 2 or 3 other blocs together.

Sorry it was late. Actually wasn't at home at 1am EST for once...

Well, great day for [color=pink]NOIR[/color]. A gain of 6 nations, and .55 score to boot. Both [color=red]The SuperFriends[/color] and [color=red]Complaints and Grievances Union[/color] have pretty decent gains. [color=red]The SuperFriends[/color]'s gain is a little surprising, as [color=maroon]RIA[/color] takes a .30 score loss today, though this was offset by the gains by both [color=aqua]Fark[/color] and [color=aqua]Ragnarok[/color]. Our biggest loser, [color=blue]Chestnut Accords[/color], was very obviously hurt by [color=maroon]RIA[/color]'s dip today. [color=green]Common Defense Treaty[/color] surprises me, with another gain, adding insult to the injury of [color=grey]Peace and Love Train Accords[/color]' .01 score loss. Their difference is now .42 score; the idea of a pass there, now distant. However on our other interesting front, [color=green]Kel-Morian Combine[/color] closes in on [color=green]Victory Not Vengeance[/color], leaving a gap of a mere .03 score. We'll see if [color=green]Victory Not Vengeance[/color] is able to stop that pass.

Shout out today to [color=maroon]Random Insanity Alliance[/color] for their loss today. Hopefully they'll bounce back from that and we'll see gains reflected in both [color=red]The SuperFriends[/color] and [color=blue]Chestnut Accords[/color].

I am pretty sure you could save yourself a lot of hassle if you used firefox, stored all the alliances you want to pull data from as bookmarks, opened them all at once (pretty easy to do with firefox). Then use an add-in to save all the tabs as html in one operation (instead of each one over and over).

It'd cut the time down to nearly nothing to get all that statistical information.

I'm really having trouble understanding what you are so upset about. Yes, blocs now are slightly smaller than they used to be and they have selective membership. NOIR doesn't accept every alliance. In fact, if you focus your attention the Alliance Politics board for a moment you will see two threads discussing how evil we are for not accepting everyone that comes along.

And how does our stats being listed here make any analysis useless for you? Did you know that if you don't look at our stats listed... you can still look at the rest and not have to be concerned with big bad NOIR ruining your personal assessment of the data? It's not like members of NOIR are running through the thread mocking other blocs for being smaller than us. So really, why so sad?

First of all, get a hold of yourself, I don't really have the patience to discuss something with you if you're going to blow it out of proportion. That said, I am hardly upset about anything related to NOIR, I am just saying that the presence of NOIR in this thread is pointless for statistical purposes because you can't exactly track easily the effect of 24 alliances - and considering this is a thread for statistical analysis, I surely hope I don't need to explain why there's absolutely no point in NOIR being here other than NOIR signatories feeling good about how they have more collective score together than any other bloc. And that's all I said, that there's no statistical point in NOIR being in a statistic thread:

Gonna agree that NOIR shouldn't be here. It's an ODP and not a binding treaty, and there's an extremely small chance all 9459347593487543 signatories will ever fight on one side in a war. It's even less likely that they'd actually invoke the treaty to do it.

If you made a point I haven't seen it. All I've seen is a lot of boo hooing about statistical irrelevance. NOIR being counted in no way, shape or form effects any other of the stats being shown on this page. If you're so upset by it you can pretend our stats aren't posted instead of having a hissy fit over us being listed. And, as far as I can tell, a massive FIVE people mentioned NOIR being large. Not exactly us flooding into this thread and patting ourselves on the back. And of those 5 it's obvious almost every single one was meant to be taken with a grain of salt.

In the TOP / CnG war almost the entirety of NOIR fought on the same side.

EDIT: A majority of NOIR fought on the same side in the Karma War as well.
And there has been at least one other occasion where the NOIR treaty was almost activated by a large portion of members in the defense of a signatory. The situation happened to be defused before then, which is why it isn't common knowledge.

I seem to be having a hard time making myself clear but please indulge me with a simple answer: Why should NOIR be in a statistical thread when its presence has little to no statistical relevance?

There's no such thing as [i]boo hooing about statistical irrelevance[/i] in a thread called "Bloc Statistics"...

It's purpose in a statistical thread is to show its statistics. That seems clear enough to me. The only thing worth debating is whether people care about its statistics. Now, since there are a couple dozen NOIR alliances, there IS an audience for the statistics, even if no one outside of NOIR cares, and since Daikos is doing the work, it doesn't affect anyone else in any way, anyway, if they choose to ignore it.

As far as political leanings. I'm actually kind of sad to say that everyone is pretty much on the same side of any web. We could use more diverging opinions.

NOIR is okay to be there. NOIR [i]is[/i] a bloc, the statistics of that bloc are being listed. It doesn't matter if people don't think they'll move together in war, they are still a bloc.

One thing I don't think *needs* to be there are the two parts of the PALT, since the combined one was already listed. But that's just my opinion.

It's not about what I like and what I don't like. I am only arguing that NOIR being there is pointless. I asked you to explain me what is the point of NOIR being there and you, instead of trying to build a decent and logical argument, just replied: "If you don't like it, don't look at it". It's ok, no problem, but I think it settles the discussion.

I think NOIR is a cool bloc and should be listed. It's a super economic ODP bloc and it's pretty cool.

Also, I really think the entire Peace and Love Train should be listed together as one.

Well those cheating !@#$%^&* in [color=green]Peace and Love Train Accords (Engineers)[/color] add [color=aqua]GUN[/color] (anyone remember Mergenarok?). With this gain of over 4 score, [color=grey]Peace and Love Train Accords[/color] jump up two spots in the rankings, to sit comfortable in the 6th position. Their upper echelon, [color=green]Peace and Love Train Accords (Engineers)[/color], also manages to pass [color=grey]Duckroll[/color]. Interesting to note that though [color=grey]Duckroll[/color] was formed claiming military dominance, their average national score is less than [color=green]Peace and Love Train Accords (Engineers)[/color]. Good gains for lots of others today, [color=pink]NOIR[/color], [color=red]The SuperFriends[/color], and [color=blue]Chestnut Accords[/color] all gaining over .20 score. Purple takes another tough hit, with [color=green]Poseidon[/color] dropping .21 score to take the biggest loser spot again. [color=green]The Iron Curtain[/color] takes a hit of .19 score. The gap between [color=green]Victory Not Vengeance[/color] and [color=green]Kel-Morian Combine[/color] narrows to just .02 score. Also, I'd like to say that I think [color=pink]NOIR[/color] is a pretty cool bloc, eh has optional defense and doesnt afraid of anything.

I feel as though I must defend us here Pomiel. First, I would submit that Duckroll got hit pretty damn hard last war both Val, and TORN were at war for quite a long time and IRON still is at war. Perhaps that has something to do with depressed average NS. I would also say that the fact that Duckroll has more WRCs per nation than any bloc besides Poseidon (of which one member belongs) and the fourth most WRCs behind NOIR, SF, and CnG all of which are almost double its size in members speaks for itself.
