The same arguments could be applied to GOONS, which your alliance protected on its return, never mind allowed to live. Taking on a name like that does bring extra challenges but you're in serious double standard territory there.

Yup, my spider sense was also tingling.:smug:

[Okay now how was that not out of character? Spidey sense = not IC for the world, because as far as I know "The Amazing Spiderman" isn't retconned into Planet Bob's history.]

I know our name comes with a lot of bad history and many of you wish us dismantled and entirely squashed immediately, but I am doing my best to get all the Nation Leaders of this alliance to sit down for a round-table discussion and to act like the adults we are.

You must be talking about the whole 'Round 2' thing because that's not how I remember it at all. :v:

You can't seriously be considering what GOONS v.1 did equal to what /b/ v.1 did.....can you?

If the OP is anything to go by I rather doubt that this incarnation of /b/ is going to do anything but fizzle and die out quietly. The predictable bursts of hysterical outrage and alarm are always amusing though.

Something to consider: There are many, many names for an aspiring alliance leader to choose from and not all of those names have been used here in the past. Flying Reindeer Alliance of Nation-Killers (FRANK) is one that I can think of offhand. There is also Allied Entites Independent Of Undesirable Youth (or any other AEIOU usage, either including the Y or not as it does tend to be left out). They might have chosen to go a different route and use a name from another planet and call it the Massive Enigma Coalition (MEC) or the Energetic Union (EU). Could've also been the Untold Nations or the Umpteen Nationals or something using the letters U (already discussed in a previous mention) and N, though this route was also, sadly, not chosen.

No, instead they--dare I Godwin this?--called themselves a name that is quite reviled here. Imagine I form an alliance and call it the Nations Seeking Democratic Association Please (NSDAP) or the Killer Klown Klan? Ohhhh, now the feelings of rage and baw come out, don't they?

Thing is, why would somebody choose to name their alliance after such an otherworldly entity which has caused so much strife and feelings of anger, hatred, and yes, even butthurtedness to infect the body politic?

Why would someone pull the standard of filth and wickedness and vileness that is /b/ and run it up a flagpole?

Unless they agree with the acts of /b/ from the past. Same reason someone would call themselves the NSDAP or the KKK. Because they agree with the ideals of those otherwordly groups.

Now, I know that it's considered quite verboten to actually remember things that have happened more than a month or two ago (unless we're speaking about past wrongs of Pacifica, but hey, we're loved), and even moreso to actually bring them up. But I'm not aiming this post at those of you who secretly admired the acts of /b/ when they were last here. No, the only thing I'll be aiming at you in the fullness of time is my military.

People, some of you may not remember the state of things when /b/ last had their way. I do, along with many others. /b/ should not be allowed to reform. Doing so infects this world with a cancer, and not the funny kind of cancer that people giggle about on here and elsewhere, but the kind that infests, grows, becomes malignant, and must be excised. If allowed to grow large and fat off of the cells of its host, amputation is the only way to cure the affliction. By that time we're talking serious surgery. In this case I would say that surgery would remove a sizeable portion of NS from a number of alliances who will eventually throw in their lot with this crew.

But it will be removed. At all cost it will be removed.

On the other hand, rather than waiting so long to excise that tumor and all of that NS along with it, it could simply be cured right now before it grows malignant. If the international community takes a hard line stance against the reformation of this alliance, which does not deserve a second chance, they will be unable to fester.

At one time the citizens of the world were united against this form of scum. I ask those of you who remember to join those of us who stand against this sort of filth. I ask those of you who were not here to look into the past activities of the alliance under this name and think "why would someone choose THAT name, out of all the others, unless they agreed with the actions of that alliance?"

And I ask those of you who side with /b/ to climb into a rocket and go back to the moon.
Hey, bud, you've tainted your name there too. NPO is synonymous with the rolling of alliances and EZI. Shall I alert CnG and have us coordinate periodic curbstomps of your alliance for what you once did? Or do you want a chance?

People have said the same damn thing about you. Good thing we don't operate under your standards, though. It'd sure suck if we killed NPO off for what they might do in the future.

Nice of you to compare things the NPO has done with those done by /b/. Your moral relativism is refreshing in your equating of in-game attacks on other alliances with the posting of child pornography and hacking of the game.

I can't think of a way to make that IC.

Last time I was up there pretty much all but one alliance was at war with General Electric and a wonderful stalemate was achieved. Some kind of peace got signed, I took a shuttle back down here, and shortly thereafter contact was lost with all the colonies.

And to bring this tangent back on topic, I'm sure we both recall how the colonies were nearly wiped out by ELS (lunar /b/) tom-foolery.

I hate everything your alliance stands for... or at least what it stood for. I hope this doesn't work out horribly for everyone in the community like it did the last time around.

Also anyone comparing NPO to /b/ doesn't know their [butt] from their elbow.

The only thing I don't really understand in this thread is why VE is still at war with an alliance that hasn't existed for roughly 3 years. You signed terms that forced NPO to give out white peace in all of their wars, why haven't you taken your own advice in the last 3 years?
Holy crap I swear to admin you people either cant read or just jump so quick at the chance to make a snide remark that you don't read. Read a few pages back, I'm done repeating myself.

Yes yes we know, moral outrage, some random /b/ers in the past did that. This /b/ probably doesn't have any of the same members, but ZOMGWTF they are back, quick lets overreact to the point that we destroy everything associated with /b/. Believe it or not a large number of CNers are /b/tards and are (relatively :P) normal and are good contributing members to this game. Sure the name bears a lot of stigma, but until we have reason to call them out for something lets not provoke them to such action. If we give them a chance to be good, maybe they will surprise us.

This thread alone makes me happy that /b/ (sorta) came back. If you people get this riled up over a bloody announcement I can't wait to see what'll happen when !@#$ actually hits the fan. Calm down; it's not the end of the world, yet.

Besides, barring /b/lack Friday, /b/ bestowed bundles of boundless boons, bonds, and burns because boneheads brought banalities before them. Bring /b/ back to bring Bob to the brink of barbaric bodacity.

That is to say, /b/ made the world a more interesting place.

Oh I know, there are even some old /b/ members in VE. Shocking right?

Its not the individuals (well expect a certain few like say KRJ or monkt) that are an issue. Its what happens when you put a large group of them in once place that's an issue.

Besides, they chose to come back under that name, GOONS had to jump throw some political hoops to return, hell VE had to jump through some political hoops when we reformed. /b/ is in the same situation. To resurrect that name requires some extra diplomatic efforts from them, that is all.

Makes sense cause moralism has no absolute tenets. It is merely a soapbox from which certain people who have too much free time decry the legitimate play-style of others.

Anyone who has read their Vladimir knows that Pacifican ideology rejects morality in its entirety. Feel free to equate ideologies on opposite sides of the political spectrum if it suits your purposes.

Regardless of how long he's been around it doesn't make a difference. The only person who has the right/ability to strike the unjust from this world is the Holy One and his appointed angels. Not you, not me, not anyone.
