Germany: Public Controversy

The men on the ground had little chance to follow her, and were not able to do so. However, Pier's (former) comrades continued to be after her, seeming to be as well trained as she was. One of them drops his heavy jacket and gun in order to be able to run even faster. She would not be able to simply outrun the two, but then, they wouldn't be able to gun her down either. After a moment, one of the men tries to tackle her down, to at least try to slow her down, even if he'd be able to grab one leg it'd be good enough for him.

They now heard police sirens in the distance and even a helicopter. They were trying to find them, but, well, it was a fairly large city...and they were so far moving fast. The satellite remained focused on them three and soon guided the security vehicles towards all of them.

When the man attempted to tackle her, Laura jumped to the side, evading. She wondered whether the two realized she wasn't only wearing espionage gear, but also a pistol, an assault rifle and a heavy sniper, the three having a total weight of 36 kilograms. Taking the GDAR 21 Carbine from her left side, she jumped to the right, rolled off to get a bit further away from the two, aimed at them.
And opened fire. The weapon spewed out 7.62x51 mm rounds, at a muzzle velocity of 970 meters per second, almost three times the speed of sound. Thirty rounds were in one magazine, which she basically emptied into the "radicals".
Reloading the weapon, but not discarding the empty mag, she darted away once more, to the west. She'd have to try and get out of sight for a while.

They were wholly aware of that. But they did not even seem to care. Not even as the lead finally broke into their bodies, disabling one and killing another one. That was all for Pier's people. The tragedy had now been discovered...but the confusion still had not been cleared up. She was close to being surrounded, and as she continued west in fact she saw a light tank and two police vehicles at the end of the block. As she runs, they figure that she has to be involved...and they fire. The small arms would do no damage, but the heavy machineguns of the light tank would be enough to just pierce through if they did hit.

She had to go somewhere where the satellite would not see her, else she'd be caught in no time. Or shot.

A light tank was a comparatively heavy vehicle, but they were prime targets for the heavy weapon on Laura's back, the M-98 Witwe anti-materiel rifle. As she ran, dodging into a side street, she holstered the carbine again and took the 32 kilogram heavy rifle from her back, side-jumping into yet another side street. Only now did she notice that the tank had hit her side, the suit just barely deflecting the bullet. There still was pain, and probbaly light internal bleeding. A direct hit would've reduced her mobility to zero.
She tried getting into the sewers, hoping for them to be big enough for a person to at least crawl in. If it was the case, she could use them to potentially escape.

They were suitable as far as room was concerned, but they also had been locked. There had been security concerns regarding the sewers, or perhaps it were that they were connected to certain facilities...that would be a different chapter. It didn't look as if she'd be able to break into the sewer unless she had some sort of explosive ready to do the trick.

The vehicle, now vehicles, drew closer and two policeman then confronted her and shot at her...but it was extremely unlikely that their bullets would be able to do much. If it weren't for her armor, it'd have been too easy to dispatch her. The authorities soon noticed what was going on, but the regular police had no means to go around their limitations. They had to rely on other items, such as the light tank trying to now catch up to her, to get her. Some soldiers, currently working on Military Police, upon hearing this decided that their only option would be grenades or antitank weapons when they ran into her, if they did at all. It seemed that a small crowd was approaching her from several angles, at least from the noise - she did not see them yet save for the two firing.

Within the next couple of seconds, the helicopter's light would focus onto her. If she cared for it, she may as well take it down with her rifle altogether.

"$%&@!"
She figured talking to the policemen was out of the question - even though she hadn't attacked any single one of them - and ran into the nearest building simply to get out of sight. She hadn't thought of bringing explosives with her and simply bashing the manhole cover was not an option.
Thus, she'd need to do this conventionally, using agility and speed, as well as adaptability to get away.
Going through the building, she jumped and hopped over any obstacle, using her knowledge of Parkour to move as efficiently as possible through not only the building, but after it the entire city, using the environment to her advantage.
It was unlikely that the North German policemen were trained to handle someone almost effortlessly jump along buildings.

OOC: Please watch that before replying.

That was it for the German forces. Once that she was in the building, the satellite could see her no more, neither the helicopter. They would go on looking for her for a long time, and in several situations they would come close to catchinh her - so close yet so far, bullets would not stop her and when seeming to be almost there, she'd jump off to another building. Eventually, they would give up.

It was over...

An extended investigation began, which lasted a fairly brief time due to the high relevance that it had, leading the Chancellor to deal with it himself. There were some pictures of the attacker, fairly clear all things considered, and several witnesses that had survived, including one of Pier's men, whom had been a suspect.

What was found in the end was that the weapons used against Pier and one of his henchmen were not of German making. They were compared to a large amount of weapons, and it was found that Germany had not yet been able to manufacture rounds of such quality and power. Furthermore, the body armor was able so sustain direct hits from all german weapons but a light tank's...there was no equivalent to that. Not only Germany couldn't manufacture those things, but then, most nations in the world were not able to create those things either...

There was a security video of the woman entering the hotel, however, the face was not one which matched anyone in German records. But if she was able to get through the hotel without standing out, and speak to the one working there...it was clear that she spoke perfect Nordlandic.

There's the relevance of...who would want to hit Pier? If only Lübeck, now Denmark, and Southern Germany...out of them both, only Southern Germany had the technology to build those things...and also the right cultural connection not to stand out as a foreigner...

What would the Government do? In principle, they did not want to make this public. But then the people would come to its own conclussions and believe that the government *itself* had murdered Pier...the Chancellor was concerned. Although the investigation was finished, the people were told to wait ninety days more to see the final culmination of the investigative efforts. Buying time.

With the hunt called off, Laura relaxed quite a bit. She still was careful of course, but now made her way to the extraction point south of the city where she'd be picked up by the very same helicopter that had brought her here into the GDR's northern neighbour in the first place.
Once she was home, the mission was declared a full success, despite North German police engaging and firing at the infiltrator. However, she was scolded for unnecessarily endangering herself by not utilizing her sniping skills.
She promised to not do something like that again.

If asked, the GDR government would simply reply,
"There is nobody like this in the databases of our nation. In addition, no armour of this kind is in production here. It is very doubtful that this person is or was a citizen of the GDR."
Denial, complete denial. Officially, at least.

*Classified*
Unofficially, a short message would be sent to the North German government, privately and via a secure channel.
Greetings.
The person you recently encountered was a Special Operations agent, though not part of any official governmental institution. She was sent to get rid of a potential second Visari who could possibly have incited a revolution in your nation if not stopped.
We request that the investigation results in something along the lines of "Not possible to determine origin, armour likely one of its kind, origin of weaponry and ammunition likely on black market of the GDR".
If you have questions, we will attempt to answer them as well as we can, though certain things are of course highly classified, such as any additional information about the agent or her equipment.

This message and all following ones were never sent and do not exist.

Thank you.
With this, the government of the GDR considered the case done, the origin of the assassin impossible to determine, even if uninvolved people wanted to look at the population databases of the nation. Laura was indeed not in those databases, instead registered in a special database within the Ultor Complex, within which the subjects - or former subjects - were no citizens of the GDR. Thus Laura could only be found there, and with the complex officially being the Headquarters of the influential Ultor Corporation, a private company, it would be somewhat hard to get to those databases, even if anyone ever thought of looking there.
Quite simply, Laura didn't exist officially. Only those who had met her over the course of her training after Leclerc gave her the opportunity to remake her life knew of the girl's existence, aside from inhabitants of the Ultor complex.

Though she felt lonely at times.

The Preußische Eiserne Brigade was outraged at the death of one of its members, and the more extreme leaders were calling for blood. Howeve, the more pragmatic ones realized that this was the time to get closer to the goverment, and so a message was sent:

To the Kanzler

The Preußische Eiserne Brigade is prepared to give a scrapegoat should the government need one for the death of Pier.
