Coup attempt in Germany!

An attempt on Chancellor Martens' life has taken place today in Germany after he left a Martencist-Ratcom meeting. A young man and member of the Ratcom Party has moved forwards with an improvised explosive device, detonating it within Martens' proximity and causing injury. However, it seems as if the bomb was poorly built and only managed to inflict one casualty in the form of another Ratcom nearby.

In the meantime, the offender, whose name has not been released and the Chancellor are both remaining in the same hospital at Berlin where wounds are being taken care of. However, Martens already took it upon himself to stand up and speak to the press as if nothing had happened.

"The fire of the blast has burnt me, but if they want to burn my iron will again they'll need more than a crudely constructed firework. All that this managed is for me to require several skin implants which I will receive soon. I must admit that, while this is painful physically, what pains me the most are the issues of the country and of this disbalanced individual."

Regarding the public outrage - and the democratic outrage - towards the RatComs, which were blamed for this, Martens spoke,

"We should not jump to conclussions. A thorough investigation is already well on its way to shed some light on this issue. I understand the public concerns about the Ratcom party, but we cannot afford to place the blame on their shoulders unless if our research can verify this. I will personally condemn any acts against the Ratcoms - it would be illegal and premature. These issues are not that simple."

He later stated that he'd attent Althing Sessions anyway, and then had to go rest.

"Rational Communism does not advocate or endorse suicide bombing or any such terrorist acts. Anyone doing so and claiming to do it in the name of Rational Communism is merely attempting to slander us and most certainly not worthy of being a Rational Communist."

The Chancellor's recovery continues and thanks all those who had been worried, all while the investigation advances Right now both the Democratic Party as well as the Rational Communism are on the sights of the judges, because even though that it may appear that a RatCom is responsible for this, the effect of the attack seems to benefit the Democrats more due to the fact that it slows down the upcoming economic reform which has to do with their interests, while the RatComs have nothing to win or lose. It is suspected that it may be a false-flag operations for the democrats to get rid of the RatComs.

The Chancellor has entered another operation as part of his recovery this evening, and is reportedly undergoing complications which threaten his life. As a response to this, people have gathered at different Pagan Temples in a symbollic gesture to hope for his recovery, especially at Asgaard. The Martens family seems to have no luck, would he die just as Magnhild had died?

The Althing has held another session, although in this one, the Chancellor is absent. In its place, the leader of the Democratic Party will hold the chairmanship of the hall. To the dismay of many, laws to further open the German Market and remove many government regulations on business are presented...this time, the Martensists and the RatComs do not have, due to Martens' abscence, sufficient votes to repel this, and by just a small margin they lose. Another thing which contributes is the fact that some Martensists are off to check on the Chancellor's situation, that this was held suddenly, and that some RatCom Althing members are suspended due to being under investigation.

The peaceful meetings at the temples to wish for the Chancellor's health to return start to turn into boilers of enraged citizens as the news spread...

The next week...

The Chancellor's health continues to be critical.
As a result of the Althing's measures, mass firings have taken place while also large reductions in salary have been handed out...unrest is widespread, the Police and Military Police have been mobilized to prevent any violence. Several Temples have been surrounded by Riot Police as well.

The democratic deputy chancellor has announced that the Rational Communist Party has been banned. The Rational Communists have appealed to Southern Germany to "rectify" this situation.

The Martencist Party has denounced this as the preparation of a "Democratic" coup, and the Althing threatened to ban them too.

"The GDR continues offering free use of its hospitals to help the Chancellor.

In the meantime, the ban of the Rational Communist party by the Dems is an outrage. We demand they be allowed again. You are hindering actual democracy with this, moving towards totalitarianism, which is entirely unacceptable."

The Athenian Federation seconds the position of our South German friends. We demand the restoration of the Rational Communists and an independent investigation into the true motives behind the attack on the chancellor.

The "Democratic" Government states that foreign nations have no right to make demands of anything concerning German Internal Affairs, that this will and should remain internal business for the Althing to solve.

Martens' caretakers and representatives have contacted, without the government knowing, those who had offered help with the health-related issues, however, it seems that the condition currently is too critical to allow him to move, but they do seem cooperate and would like to receive perhaps at the hospital some appropiate equipment and physicians...

...However, the Government has mandated that nobody shall reach the hospital save for those who have been assigned to take care of the Chancellor's health, including no visitors...the place is on lockdown...

On that same week, it was announced that all German Citizens would only be able to withdraw a maximum of 1000 Nordmarks at a time from their bank accounts weekly due to concerns that a large number of people had been withdrawing their capital in a large scale. However, fingers are already being pointed towards certain rich men that fund and have funded the Democratic Party, and some Democratic Althing Members themselves, that they withdrew all of their money only hours before the measure was announced, in a very suspicious manner.

Dissent rises.

The government forbade help from the outside?
Then the outside would simply come and help, anyways.

Indeed, a group of the most experienced doctors from the GDR would travel in a large medical convoy to and into their northern neighbour, to the city where their chancellor is kept. However, in this highly unusual case, the hundred or so civilians from the GDR were being escorted.
By a whole goddamned division of the German Democratic Armed Forces, fully equipped and armed to the teeth. In front of the cohort, an APC drove, a large sign put onto it. The sign read,
"Try stopping us from helping your Chancellor."

That move caused much chaos in the already chaotic high command of Germany. They didn't know what to do, they didn't know if the GDR was invading or otherwise sincerely coming to help. Either way there was an alliance treaty between both nations, so GDR was more or less entitled to move through the land as long as it didn't fire a bullet.

The Deputy Chancellor panicked, complained, and ordered the Military Leaders to fire. But they did not obey. At the same time, a small portion of the army which was in fact loyal was mobilized to physically block the access to the hospital in such a manner that it would be needed to run them over to get there. From that moment onwards, it'd probably take the GDR some four hours to arrive, four hours during which they drove through perfect German Roads with some eyes watching them very suspiciously and some other eyes watching them as potential saviors.

-------------

Over in the hospital, a doctor received a large amount of money to carry out an order. He filled a syringe with a lethal amount of fluid and approached Martens' room. But then he saw a group of men in old Nordheim military uniforms and armor - it was a group of Aesir. He would be caught just in time before injecting death on his patient. When he noticed what was going on, it was already too late and he had already an axe violently cut-and-shove him away. The Aesir would stand guard at Martens' door.

Indeed, the Aesir and their Guard had arrived from Nordheim to join the protesters. A large group of people dressed in old Germanic-style clothing, most of them with long hair, many with beards, all with a face that spoke only of war readiness. The Army was ordered to shoot against the GDR and the large numbers of demonstrators, as well as the Aesir. But the majority of it politely declined. There were some incidents in which occational bullets were shot, but amazingly, in spite of some deaths, the German ranks held still...everyone was armed.

The Althing met again to discuss the situation. The Multinational Companies would try and raise their own armies to counter this. But then the building - the reichstag - was surrounded by soldiers in Black Armor and with all-black vehicles. Could it be Martens' Einherjar, the elite guard? Indeed.

Old Martens had infiltrated the building already on his own. As usual, he was in his black uniform, dating back from the pre-nordland and pre-mannelig times, and he carried his usual pair of oversized pistols. When seeing him approach, some would run away in fear, others would try to shoot him down with little luck. Often the power of the weapons would outright rip off a limb, or destroy a head altogether.

Tambarskjelve in the german HQ had all of the pro-demo officers executed. He'd later comment that he had become tired of being used to try to kill his own countrymen.

The fight in the Reichstag continued, and the Democratics heard the shots coming closer and closer every time, and many heard screams. They withdrew into a bunker section just under the building itself, and awaited the hidden threat. Old Martens wasn't happy. The Demos had sold the country away for profit and had tried to kill his Grandson. He just wouldn't have that, and neither would the people.

The GDR convoy was eventually contacted by Tambarskjelve in representation of the Army, and by two other representatives, one for the banned Rat Coms and another one for the Martencists. The message was simple. "We thank you for your assistance. It seems that the Democratic government attempted to kill the Chancellor while blaming things on the RatComs. The Chancellor will surely appreciate this, but I beg of you, please allow us the pleasure of inflicting justice against the traitors. Once that we are done...it will be time for some new ellections..."

Old Martens moved through the shadows with oly apathy on his face - the power to the building had been cut and he had destroyed the emergency generator. He'd leave behind him a trail of blood and dead bodies, as well as bullet holes.

"I'd like to abstain from such support only on the grounds that already the people don't know what's going on - they may panic and fire upon you. GDR being in here already runs that risk. We're right now preparing a press communicate which we hope to release within the next two hours to clarify the situation, and once that it is out, then the peacekeeping forces will be accepted once that we know it's safe."

Martens arrives to the desolate Althing room. It was a nice thing to see the place so alone and so dark, the many seats without anybody on them. For a moment, he walks over to the Chancellor's seat and sits down, missing the old times. If only he hadn't trusted Visari...if only he hadn't compromised.

"Lokisson." - He speaks to himself. Then a guard, wounded from before, tries to shoot him from some distance. Martens shoots him first, and the noise echoes. "Magnhild."

He stands up after a while and heads for the secret entrance of the bunker...after all, he had designed - and used - that place many time. With the familiarity of one returning to one's old home, he moves through it using access codes for every door until he reaches the last one. Many fires are shot, but none meet their target. In the end when the dust clears, Martens stands before a crowd of frightened soldiers and democrats.

He grins very widely.

While the convoy entered Deutschland and moved further northwards, troops of the National People's Army were moved to the border. Over this short time, incredible numbers of men had gathered, but not only the military was present. Many civilians were there as well, quite possibly outnumbering the armed forces by a factor of three or four.
Millions of people were on the border, all looking into the north, into the faces of other Germans. There was a melancholy and peace seldomly seen in their faces, and it was apparent that they supported the RatComs and even the Martencists against the Dems. Signs en masse could soon be seen, calling for reinstatement of actual democracy or simply giving making a "triumvirate of two" for Rational Communists and Martencists.

There was a simple reply from the convoy, sent by the Doctors, who were, for the time being, in charge of the operation - and thus had told the soldiers to not shoot, if possible.
"Do whatever you wish. We are here to save a leader, not decide your battles for you."
And with that, they moved on, finally arriving at the hospital itself, APCs mostly discarded (aside from gaurds), doctors and soldiers moving on foot and carrying their advanced equipment. Anyone watching them make their way through the numbers of northern German soldiers would find them to be quite insane, but they moved and moved. In a slow trickle, they arrived at the doors, from there on moving to work with the hospital's personnel to find the Chancellor's room and set up whatever they needed up.
The Aesir were, for the most part, ignored - or at least it was tried. These doctors had sworn the hippocratic oath, and they wouldn't let money, armed forces or any power in the world get between them and their patient.

"We are not close to Germany at all but we know when someone is in need, as a fellow European power the Athenian Federation offers Military peacekeepers and civilian personnel to assist Germany whenever they consider it save. If permission is granted the forces are ready to help"

The Aesir did not try to stop them. They stepped back respectfully and saluted the soldiers in the usual Northern fashion. They spoke not a word and let them do their job. It shouldn't be too hard, they figured. Some of the Aesir had warned against this, but as it turns out, this was the only way.

It was a strange sight to see the Germans in the Southern border. The civilians on the one hand brought an air of fondness and brotherhood, but then the soldiers reminded the north of the last invasion. But the Germans had not deployed troops there. They'd be outnumbered and the tech would not be sufficient for defense anyway.

Over in the bunker, things were over rather quickly. Whoever would enter later would find only a large amount of blood, and corpses maimed horribly. But old Martens' job was not done. He mobilizes with his Einherjar to the airport to stop just in time several planes which had been set to leave the land carrying large amount of money, gold, silver, diamonds, and similar goods. The CEOs of several big businesses were there. When it all was over, he grabbed the primary - the richest - responsible and dragged him away to one of Martens' many bunkers - and he was still alive. The fat capitalist would never be heard of again.

Once that he was clean, Martens unexpectedly shows up at the younger Martens' room to watch him recover. He speaks to him, even though he's unconscious, "Don't worry. I have taken care of everything. Order will be restored soon."

Hours later, it was announced that the Democratics had attempted to kill the Chancellor and coup the Government while also getting rid of the Ratcoms. It was also said that next week two polls would happen, the first on unification with Southern Germany, and the second poll would be the normal German government polls - necessary after this big issue - only that one year earlier than expected.

Things seemed to return to Normal. Skirmishes happened here and there, but within 24 hours it was over, and the military had a hold of the situation. Now all that was left was to see if the Chancellor would live. By now, international relief forces had been accepted, not only to help but also to actually verify that things were good once more.

As soon as permission was granted the Athenian Forces deployed to the eastern parts of North Germany, upon arrival while armed they would not seem threatening and mostly remained on the background assisting civilian forces and protecting them.
