An Apology from NATO to BAPS

The alliance of NATO wishes to extend its deepest apologies to the good people of BAPS for a recent RSU. The inaction of our government in this particular incident is not excusable and warrants a formal admission of bad form. Since all too often announcements are made without the proper descriptive information, we'll err on the side of caution and provide the (nearly) full narrative.

To summarize the issue at hand, NATO recently lost a member that has been a 'drifter' throughout his career. He has been a NATO member three times, even reaching government positions on multiple occasions. Each time he has left and returned he has been vague on the details of what he had been up to, but many members have had their doubts. But after multiple failed predictions/analysis it was generally determined by our governing body that he was either actually only joining NATO to gain information or that he was, in the words of several members, 'full of bullocks'.

When he left this last time he mentioned something cryptic about finding out if a threat existed against NATO due to 'off world grudges' and as normal, we mostly just ignored him. However, he applied for BAPS and we should have put two and two together and realized he had the potential to be on a self motivated effort to obtain information in ways NATO does not, has not and never will condone. Here is where we screwed up.

What our FA team should have done is gotten in touch with BAPS and warned them of the possibility. Instead a series of events led to BAPS receiving information that made it look (out of context) that the actions were sanctioned by one of our High Council members. Understandably, BAPS contacted NATO and we launched a full investigation. Milla let Mick know he was leaving for BAPS with the intention of going on a personal information gathering mission, and by not informing BAPS as soon as Mick was made aware of this he was inadvertently colluding with the information gathering missions, as such he has stepped down from office of HCP.

BAPS has been extraordinarily cool about this whole ordeal. We took the unusual step of sending them our entire council discussion on the issue to show them everything that happened on our side last night and today to illustrate our befuddlement about the events that unfolded.

To be clear and to try and provide a tl;dr: NATO screwed up and didn't look out for the safety and stability of an alliance we have deep respect for (especially after this incident). Special thanks to UPN, Invicta and Legion for helping facilitate the productive discussions. We wish BAPS the very best and certainly owe you one.

Signed by the Chairman of the Office of Royal Apologies for Royal Screw Ups,

Anu Drake

On behalf of everyone in BAPS I'd like to thank our counterparts in NATO (In particular Poll, Anu and Iskander) for working with us towards a speedy and satifactory conclusion. It's high compliment to the manner in which they dealt with the situation, that we've come out of this with an increased level of mutual-respect.

I'd also like to echo Anu's sentiments regarding the assistance provided us by so many of our shared allies and friends who gave their time to help us both work through this issue.

PS :  Haf!
