Two brigades, 11,000 soldiers, left their bases at the southern New Englander border and crossed into the region. They entered the city of Newport-News, to be followed by Chesapeake, Norfolk, Suffolk, and Virginia Beach. With the takeover of Danville, the New Englanders had reached the southern Virginian border. Virginia was 'reunited', so to say.
