Dr. Vladimir Raikov was Yuktobania's chief scientist and has been placed by the Prime Minister to head Yuktobania's new weapons development program. One of the designs he had been working with a missile design. This weapon, if built, would serve in the role of mutually assured destruction, capable of devastating ground and low-flying air targets with the power of a low-yield thermonuclear weapon, but without the nuclear fallout that would affect the health of friendly neighboring nations. Not that it'd matter since Yuktobania does not have nukes to begin with. It could also help in projecting some power even further.

Catherine Reznov seemed to show her age ever since the civil war and reconstruction. Although most of the reconstruction efforts have been successful, it was at the cost of the disestablishment and disrepair of most military arms. The Yuke military had become disorganized, and it fell on her to build back the military to at least a good percentage of what it was prior to the civil war.

Raikov walked towards the Prime Minister's office with a few blueprints detailing his his creation. Let in by the secretary, he entered the office and placed the blueprints on her desk for her to check out.

Dr. Raikov said, "This is the design for the Multi Purpose Burst Missile, or MPBM for short, it is a type of MIRV Missile, designed to assure destruction on a wide scale, a surefire way to win any battle with this weapon. The weapon will have have the power of low-yield nuclear bomb, without the dangerous effects of a nuclear bomb."

Reznov interjected, saying, "Even is there is a possibility of building such a weapon, with our current technology, it would take years to construct a weapon as powerful as this on our own."

Raikov pondered, then said, "On our own, maybe, but we could establish a joint effort to build the weapon, perhaps the Hanseatic Commonwealth, they may be able to assist in such a maneuver."

Reznov thought about this, "Sarah Tintagyl would've never accepted to help us if she was ruling the Hansa, but with this new leader, Hannah, she continue to proves what General Zhana Akhatova told me recently. That to achieve peace their must be fighting to achieve peace."

She finally said, "General Raikov, you have my approval, but in order to do so, first we need to schedule a meeting with the new Hansa Potentate." Raikov bowed then left Reznov's office.

After the discussion, Reznov took out a piece of letter paper from a drawer in her desk and began writing a letter to Hannah.

Dear Hannah Asgeirsson,

I want to congratulate you personally on the recapture of Brisbane from Queensland and the sound defeat of the Dranagg forces in Australia.

I want to discuss a joint military venture that I'm sure will benefit both our nations. Right now, our Weapons R&D group have established a design for a missile system that could rival small-scale nuclear weapons in power.

I wish to discuss this at the Hanseatic Capital of Apophis, and I will be bringing my chief R&D scientist, Dr. Vladimir Raikov to help explain the details of the project.

I hope you would accept this plan and I hope to see you soon.

Sincerely,

Catherine Reznov

Prime Minister of Yuktobania

Hannah dropped the letter to the side of her chair as it fluttered on the ground, only to be picked up by Loew. She stared down at Colonel Sagittel as he shifted nervously looking up at the Potentate. Slowly, a smile worked across her face, followed be a meaningful nod. "They are proposing something truly revolutionary here Andrew, you realize that." Around the Colonel were other engineers and advisers all seated at a circular table as the letter was passed around. "The reason that I called you all here at the moment is to ask the question if we have the resources, the time, and the energy to build such weapons, I do not want to waste time with fantasy things that cannot be created, however what Miss Renzov is proposing is just what we need. Especially with the construction of missile silos already taking place."

"It would be a long process Your Ladyship and by the looks of this letter there's no telling what the Yuktobanians may have come up with." Said one engineer.

"Well it has to be better than some of the other abstract things coming from certain countries these days. Though I must admit our luck with weapons and gifts if you will falling into our hands is almost indescribable." Said Padrig Cyaire leaning back. "The Dranaggian serum, Yuktobanian weapons, Your Ladyship, we're becoming a truly technological centered nation. Lady Sarah would be appalled."

Hannah shot a glare at the doctor which shut him up instantly as she returned to her usual stare at the entourage. "You will receive the blueprints after their researchers had them over to me. If its possible we're going to build it, anything to increase our current strength. However before construction from our end, I want estimated costs, labor, and everything. I don't want this to become a dead end project." The entourage nodded before Hannah returned to the letter. "Very well, then all's needed is a response."

Miss Renzov,

Many thanks on the matter of Brisbane, it was in a way a total mess and only got worse as time went on. But those days are behind us now and we can look to the future. The future being of course, these missiles. I am intrigued that you would come to us first, as well as honored and I hope that this will aid both our countries to a great degree in the future. Therefore, since you peaked my curiosity, I anxiously away you and your associate in Apophis to further discuss this project. Hopefully we can bring glory to both our nations.

Sincerely,

Hannah Asgeirsson

Potentate of the Commonwealth

The Prime Minister's private aircraft touched down on Apophis International Airport. Reznov, was looking forward to meeting with Hannah. Raikov had the plans with him in his briefcase, as well as 2 other scientists from the Weapons R&D Program that came with the pair. They came down from the plane looking to be greeted by the Potentate or a representative of the Hanseatic Commonwealth.

As the plane landed on the tarmac and the Yuktobanian delegation disembarked from the plane they were greeted by Colonel Andrew Sagittel, Lady Hannah's second in command of military operations in the Commonwealth. He wore a long white frock coat and his brown hair was cut short on his very large face. "Miss Renzov." He said with a curt bow walking over towards Renzov. "Her Ladyship is very excited to see you and we have a limousine prepared to take you from the airport to the Palac Pontus if you would follow me." He led the delegation into the limousine as they took of out of the airport into central Apophis itself. If Renzov had been to Brisbane, Apophis would be a completely different feel. Apophis was from all standards a city meant to be seen in the dark and the battle of architectures only made this more profound. Hanseatic Australia, Russia, and Pacific Islands during the Tintagylian period had been built around the Neo-Classical, Rococo, and Baroque periods of Enlightenment Europe and had only added to the majesty of Sarah's Imperial Empire, however Hannah's own tastes were much more Romantic and much more dark. The Romantic Age, spurred on by the architecture of the High Gothic period crept towards the sky in awe-inspiring horror, it was of a new people, a people that had suffer for much of their existence, and a people that would once again rise to power. The Palac Pontus of Apophis, the seat of the Hanseatic Government, looked of a cross between a European cathedral and the Diet Hall in Brisbane and the guards matched feeling of silent mysticism.

Once the limousine reached the gates of the Palac, Renzov and her entourage were escorted inside the stone palace and down the grand entrance hall towards a stone staircase that led down under the earth. Through two heavy metal doors they descended down a corridor lit by crystalline lights on all sides as they felt themselves continuing lower, and lower into the the Earth. Finally they were guided through another set of etched wooden doors with stain-glass designs embedded in them, going through the Yuktobanian's entered Hannah's Inner Sanctum. Eight robed Lillian Guards lined the walls, while in the center of the room sat Hannah on a wooden throne looking down at foreign delegation. The doors were shut behind Catherine as they were guided up to where Hannah shifted on her chair.

"Lady Asgeirsson. May I present, Prime Minister Catherine Renzov from the Union of Yuktobanian Republics." Said one of the Lillians as she returned to her post.

Hannah rose from the chair and smiled as she walked to Catherine's side. "Its good to finally meet one of my greatest allies, Miss Renzov. Welcome to Apophis, I hope the journey here was enjoyable. But if would like we could get down to business here and now. I'm quite interested in this project of yours and have already briefed my engineers on what is expected of them. So lets bring Yuktobania and the Hansa closer shall we?" Hannah smiled, a grin much different from Sarah's, this one had seen death and caused death. Her eyes, a bright green flashed against the Prime Minister's own piercing the soul in a different way than her predecessors' in a much more domineering way. Things had changed in the Hansa, everything had changed.

OOC: Actually, it's called Union of Yuktobanian Republics, says so on my sig. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

IC: Reznov smiled, saying "The feeling is likewise Miss Asgeirsson. Let us create a shining future for both our nations." Reznov showed Hannah to the doctor. "I like to introduce the head of Yuktobania's Weapons Resarch and Development Bureau, Dr. Vladimir Raikov. He is the one who created the design."

Raikov then said to the Hansa's Potentate, "It is a pleasure to see you, Lady Asgeirsson. What I have in this briefcase are blueprints for the new missile design."

Opening the briefcase, Raikov gave the documents and blueprints to the Potentate. "These are the blueprints to the Multi-Purpose Burst Missile, MPBM for short. This weapon has all the destructive power of a low-yield nuke or a Massive Ordinance Air Blast Bomb, but without the radiation that could spread to other nations. It is a surefire way to ensure complete destruction of your enemies, without harming the civilians or your neighboring allies."

Hannah took the blueprints out of Raikov's hands and looked down at the designs. "So essentially these would replace the average cruise missiles that most countries would develop. Very nice, very nice indeed Mr. Raikov." Looking up she cocked her head over to the doorway for the Lillians to open. "I have my own engineers here and they want to know the more intricate questions pertaining to the missile. Mainly what I am concerned about is how much will construction of these weapons cost, the construction time, what goes in to construction and how to actual build the missile, what resources that we will need at our disposal and so forth. The construction of missile silos has already began within the Commonwealth and a tool like this would be a major help to what we currently require. In addition to that." The Potenate said as she walked back up to her chair. "Raikov, while you may lead the engineering teams and our research teams, so long that you are in this country you answer to me, is that understood?"

She sat down and leaned back. "The Commonwealth has never truly been technologically advanced and that has changed over the past month. I have required it to change and the research you are bringing to us is exactly that kind of advancement that we desire. My concern is that this information is passed into the hands of our enemies. There are labs in Apophis that should be good for the first steps of planning and such. However we have development centers out in the desert near the Promised Land borders, when it is time for the actual construction of the missile I'll have you all relocated there. I hope these restrictions aren't too damning on your development, but you will have all the funding and technological advances that this country can offer you. I have great hope in this project Raikov, I would hope that you don't disappoint either Miss Renzov here, or myself." Hannah grinned.

Raikov said to Hannah, "I understand your concerns about the development costs and time. The project development cost would wind up being no more than 116,000 Hanseatic Marks. The construction time should be no more than 2 months at most if I can get the materials needed to make the warhead." Raikov pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket. It contained information about the materials needed to make Composition H-6

Raikov then said, "If I can get these materials, then we will have a complete missile in 2 months. Other than this, I have no concerns about staying here to make sure everything works accordingly."

"Very good." The Potentate nodded. "Dominique." She turned to one of the Lillians who immediately snapped to a salute. "If you would escort Mr. Raikov to the appropriate facilities outside of Apophis he will be able to begin work. I look forward on seeing your progress Raikov." As the doctor would be taken out of the Sanctum, Hannah turned back to Catherine with a smile. "Now, Miss Renzov if there is anything else that we need to discuss, I'm all ears, the Hanseatic-Yuktobanian alliance has always been something that Hanseatics hold dear in their hearts therefore if there is anything else I can do, please say the word..."

---

Meanwhile, Raikov found himself once again being led up from the Inner Sanctum towards the surface of Apophis. Being escorted out of the Palac Pontus another motorcade was called over and he was shuffled in and then driven down a few roads towards an industrial park outside of the city. After receiving clearance from the guards, a metal gate was opened and the motorcade driven inside. The buildings were bland on the outside, but as one went deeper in they revealed just how extensive Hansetaic weapons development had become. Hanseatic militarism was nearly non-existent during the Tintagyl era, the military had used imported tanks from where they could get them, had only a handful that they had designed themselves and for the most part relied on defensive measures to get the job done. Hannah's reign had turned this over one-hundred eighty degrees. Research teams delved deep into the most advanced methodology of weapons construction that Hanseatic advancement could give them, construction had already been planned for missile silos, extensive shore batteries which were already under construction, tanks, new aircraft and other things were all on the drawing boards or being prepared all ready.

As the doctor was led in, he was approached by an elderly man with thin gray hair. "Raikov I presume? My name is Tarja Kalimko, one of the chief engineers here at Apophis Park. I want to let you know that we'll be working together on your design. I just received a fax of the materials you asked for at Lady Hannah said that they would be delivered sometime in the next week. After that, its a bee line to begin construction, the missile silos are already going up and everyone is very anxious to begin."

OOC: The Missile is somewhat akin to a MIRV missile, however, unlike a MIRV Missile, which would break apart in mid flight. The MPBM would split near it's detonation phase, so it's somewhat of a cross between a cluster bomb, and a thermobaric (FAE) bomb. Each round is capable of detonations of somewhere within the 10-40 ton yield range of TNT.

A single cruise missile should be able to split into 8 rounds which split of away from the epicenter.

mpbm.png

I don't have a good pic of an ship-launched version, and the air-launched platform was designed to be carried on fighters the size of say...an F-14.

OOC: Each round here means a single missle, right? Ten tons seems a bit too large, since the ATBIP (known as the Father of All Bombs) has a yield ratio of 6.2 (6.2 lb of TNT per lb weight)

OOC: The thing is, with MIRV's and similar weapons like this, the total effect is much larger than what a single explosion of a power equal to the collective components combined could do.

And I understood each round to mean each missile, myself.

That would be a great way to describe it at least in my mind. So essentially you have such a large yield because it is able to hit multiple areas at once instead of one missile slamming into the ground, this has various smaller missiles slamming into the ground. So total there may be 10 tons, but you have to look at that as the added power off all the missiles. If this is unrealistic, the tonnage can be toned down, unfortunately Raz knows much more about this project than I do. However, I believe this covers those questions.

IC: "Excellent," Raikov said to Mr. Kalimko. Walking with the man, he said to the workers under him "We have a two month frame to construct this missile, this will be a venture that both Yuktobania and the Hanseatic Commonwealth are looking forward too, let's not disappoint our nations!" He opened his briefcase and detailed the blueprints. "We will soon have most of the components available by next week, in the meantime, we need to ensure that we have a working frame design ready for construction. Net let us begin!"

Raikov began showing his peers and co-workers 2 missile designs, a curved triangular design with folding wings, and a conventional missile design. The conventional design are noted for long range, but at high supersonic speeds, it makes it likely for interception. Thr Triangular design has a smaller profile and can be fitted with Radar-Absorbent Materials that reduce RCS and can be fitted with an engine allowing super cruise capability, but at the cost of range.

He left it up to the Hanseatic designers to decide which.

Kalimko and his engineers laid the blueprints over the table and the missile designs, they discussed the proposals in front of them with hushed voices and nodding heads. Finally Kalimko rose his head and called Raikov over to the table and pointed to both of the designs with a smile on his face. "You know Raikov I've always had a problem with choosing between two very good things and these designs both have their advantages and disadvantages, the key is to use them both where they would be the most effective and therefore we present this idea. Hanseatic military strategists have created an outline of our missile silos in the best why that they can both reach maximum offensive and defensive capabilities. Since design A is more effective for short range, these would be best for our defensive measures, while the others at long range would could use for cross continental attack and so forth. What I am proposing doctor is that we manufacture both type of missiles, the Class A-Defensive and the Class-B Offensive, it will make our missile systems much more versatile." He sighed. "I might cost a bit more and construction might take a bit longer, but I would rather have more diversity with my weapons than just relying on one design."

Another engineering looked up. "Naturally this is up for debate and we'll have to wait to get our materials then decide what and when we can construct. But we definitely have the capabilities to do both."

"But we can get an experimental frame design before the combustion materials arrive next week. I want both designs prepared by next week."

---

For the next week, the workshops and factories went into full production to build the experimental framework of the missile while the Hanseatic ports exportation of the material needed for Composition H-6 were brought in and taken to the laboratories outside of Apophis. By the end of the week, they had assembled the chemicals for the composition and had the frame completed, awaiting for Raikov's next move.

Raikov inspected the framework of each missile to ensure that they were all built accordingly and well inspected to plan. "Excellent, Excellent." He mumbled while inspecting the missile systems.

With all the materials ready for the warhead, the team has not to build the propulsion system for the device.

The problem with the propulsion is that rocket engines are unpredictable. They are capable of going two to three times past the speed barrier, but range would make it unfeasible, especially with all of that explosive. A turbofan engine is also possible, but it is impossible to get it working to speeds past the sound barrier. This put the good doctor in a quandary.

He said "Kalmiko, I know you're country has to have cruise missiles in storage. Is it possible that they use a small-scale turbofan engine? If so, we may need to modify it." Raikov wanted to see if he could upscale the thrust, in order to reduce detection, while making it fast enough to avoid interception.

Long range missiles and artillery had never been at the forefront of Hanseatic technology and during the Tintagyl era the idea of rocket-engine propelled cruise missiles had never been created due to the use of aggressive military technology which had gone against the fundamental Hanseatic principles of diplomacy. Under Lady Asgeirsson however, engineers had already been pressed to develop a longer range cruise missile that would be able to at least intercept enemy fleets and other ballistic devices. After hearing Raikov's suggestions, Hanseatic engineers had essentially given him free reign, he had access to use both the previous plans of missiles that had relied on a small turbo-fan engine capable of defending Hanseatic Australia and if stationed on the Pacific Islands, those as well. Anything else would be entirely up to Raikov's designs.

OOC: Sorry for the delay, I'm ready to continue ahead.

IC:

After finally receiving the Hansa's plans of turbofan-powered cruise missiles, Raikov's team went to work in constructing a model based on that particular engine. Raikov understood missile technology while on trips to several nations. He went ahead to modify the engine by varying the bypass ratio of the engine for different flight regimes, allowing the engine to act like a turbojet or a low-bypass turbofan. Doing so, the engine could direct more airflow through the engine's hot core, allowing it to achieve a 20% more thrust than a normal cruise missile turbofan.

300px-Williams_International_F-107_USAF.JPG

After 3 days work, Raikov's team managed to develop the engine for the Burst Missile. The scientist asked Kalmiko, "We have been able to build the engine that should be able to make our missile go faster. I need to test this in case there are any bugs with the system. Do you know of a wind tunnel to test the engine nearby?"
