Calling all Aliens, Time-Travellers, ESPers, Sliders and other interesting people!

August 18th, 2009

Location: Planet Earth

Our story begins two weeks ago, on the 18th of August, a day that began just like any other. The SOS Brigade members, recently returned from their summer outing to a lonely island out to sea had settled in for some well-deserved relaxation, hopefully away from Haruhi and her seemingly boundless enthusiasm for what she referred to as "activities" but were in fact, more a case of "doing what Haruhi wants to do and dragging everyone else around".

That day however, things began to move that would forever change the world...

It began with a phone call.

*ring* *ring*

Kyon's Sister: Kyon-kun, your phone.

Kyon: Don't need you to tell me that.

*click*

Haruhi: You're free today, right? We're all meeting up in front of the station at two. You better come!

*click* *beep* *beep*

...

*ring* *ring*

Kyon: What is it?

Haruhi: I forgot to tell you what to bring. Bring a swimsuit and plenty of money. Make sure to come on your bicycle! Over!

*click* *beep* *beep*

So it began...

Over the next week and a half, the SOS Brigade members Itsuki Koizumi, Mikuru Asahina, Yuki Nagato and Kyon would tag along with Haruhi Suzumiya on her marathon of 'summer activities', including events such as swimming, bowling, attending a Bon festival, goldfish scooping, cicada hunting, watching (and firing) fireworks and even participating in a fishing competition.

However, just a few days ago, one of the SOS Brigade members had a startling revelation to reveal...

That revelation was that this was not the first time the SOS Brigade had engaged in such a summer. In fact, it was not the second, the third or even the fourth time such a summer had occured. The very same summer, with only minor variation in activities, had recurred 15,531 times, almost 600 years without fail! Such was the revelation provided by Yuki Nagato who, as a Humanoid Interface of the Data Overmind, would be fully aware of the endless recursion of time that the world had entered.

The next day, the SOS Brigade returned to their regime of summer activities, albeit with a sense of trepidation at what they knew was most likely to happen; once the time reached midnight of August the 31st, time, as well as their memories, would reset to the beginning of August 18th. Due to this, they would be doomed to repeat the same activities over and over in an endless summer.

That is when the plan arose...

A plan to restore the flow of time...

A plan to start an organisation that would keep Haruhi's powers occupied...

There was however, one flaw in this plan. The organisation would most certainly not be ready before time reset, thus making any work towards the goal in vain. In order to overcome this, it was decided that time would be allowed to loop one last time, in order to give a full two weeks to devote to this plan.

As such, Yuki Nagato was instructed to deliver a message after time had reset once more...

The remaining days of August flew by for the SOS Brigade, and finally August 30th arrived. Haruhi had called a meeting at a local restaurant and all of the SOS Brigade had arrived there. Having completed her list of summer activities, Haruhi declared that the Brigade was done for the day and that they would all meet up the day after next, September 1st, in the Literature Club Room at North High School. No-one attempted to stop her from leaving the restaurant.

August 31st passed without event. Kyon never finished his summer homework. And when the clock struck midnight, time halted and reversed course...

Arrnea: Hmm, what's this? Ah it's Soviet Haruhi, our very own Humanoid Interface of the Data Overmind.

Soviet Haruhi: Communication recieved from Class One Humanoid Interface, personal name 'Yuki Nagato'. Message reads "Endless recursion of time is in effect in all worlds. Drastic measures required to exit cycle. Recommend conversion of inhabitants of all worlds to Haruhiism."

Arrnea: Interesting. We're already fairly-well established here on Planet Steve, but I've got a contact in a little place called Planet Bob who I can possibly convince to set up an organisation to recruit and convert people to Haruhiism on that world.

Soviet Haruhi: Record of "Planet Bob" found in Data Overmind memory. Accessing record...

Found one Class Two Humanoid Interface, personal name 'Elrich von Richt'. Permission to contact?

Arrnea: Initiate contact. Relay the message recieved from Miss Nagato.

Soviet Haruhi: Affirmative. Relaying message.

Moments Later...

Location: Planet Bob

Elrich von Richt: Recieving message. Please stand by...

Message recieved from Level One Humanoid Interface, personal name Yuki Nagato, relayed by Level Two Humanoid Interface, personal name 'Soviet Haruhi'. Message reads "Endless recursion of time is in effect in all worlds. Drastic measures required to exit cycle. Recommend conversion of inhabitants of all worlds to Haruhiism."

Arrnea: Did you say that time is... looping?

Elrich von Richt: Yes.

Arrnea: So that explains the overwhelming sense of déjà vu I've been having.

Elrich von Richt: It is likely, although the human notion of déjà vu is most commonly caused by a time-delay between sensory perception in the two hemispheres of the brain, causing the human in question to feel as if they had already experienced what they are currently sensing.

As an individual aware of the special powers posessed by Haruhi Suzumiya, it is however possible that you posess memories of previous iterations of the recursive time. Furthermore-

Arrnea: That's enough, I get it. So we need to form an organisation to convert people to Haruhiism? That should be fairly straightforward. We just need some people to join us to get us started. Oh, and for simplicity's sake, let's just call it the SOS Brigade.

Elrich von Richt: Very well.

About ten days later...

Arrnea: So, how many people do we have for the SOS Brigade now?

Elrich von Richt: Approximately fifteen. More should arrive after our existence is made public.

Arrnea: Is that enough?

Elrich von Richt: It is most likely that this will be a sufficient number of members to give the SOS Brigade a satisfactory starting point.

Arrnea: Good. Now, spread the word to the other Interfaces that Planet Bob will have an organisation dedicated to converting people to Haruhiism.

Elrich von Richt: Transmitting...

And so our tale ends. Or rather, so it begins with this, our Declaration of Existence.

Charter of the SOS Brigade

Article One: Foundation

On this day the First of September in the two-thousand and ninth year of the Standard Calendar of Planet Bob we, the followers of Haruhi, do declare that the SOS Brigade has been founded, to exist on the Blue and Green spheres.

Article Two: Government

Part A: The Brigade Chief

The SOS Brigade shall be governed by the Brigade Chief and Ultra Director, acting as the representative on Planet Bob of the Great One, Haruhi Suzumiya. This person shall exercise final authority over all decisions made for the SOS Brigade and shall remain in this position until they choose to retire and appoint a successor to their position.

Part B: The Senior Brigade Staff

The Brigade Chief and Ultra Director shall appoint members of the SOS Brigade to serve in the second tier of the SOS Brigade's government, henceforth known as the Senior Brigade Staff.

The Senior Brigade Staff shall contain four members:

  • The first member of the Senior Brigade Staff shall be the ESPer and Mysterious Transfer Student, whose main duty is to co-ordinate the Foreign Affairs of the SOS Brigade including, but not limited to managment of the diplomatic staff, negotiation of treaties and other agreements and rapid-response to other needs of a diplomatic nature.
  • The second member of the Senior Brigade Staff shall be the Time Traveller and Brigade Mascot, whose main duties are to create propaganda for the SOS Brigade and to oversee recruitment efforts.
  • The third member of the Senior Brigade Staff shall be the Alien Supercomputer and Meganekko, whose main duty is to co-ordinate the military of the SOS Brigade and attend to needs involving the military defense of the SOS Brigade.
  • The fourth member of the Senior Brigade Staff shall be the Ordinary Human and Errand Boy, whose duties include, but are not limited to the management of North High School, the management of the SOS Brigade's economic programmes and other general forum administration duties.

Part C: The Junior Brigade Staff

Each of these members of the Senior Brigade Staff shall also appoint, if neccessary, up to two members of the SOS Brigade to serve as the third tier of the SOS Brigade's government, henceforth known as the Junior Brigade Staff. The Junior Brigade Staff shall contain no more than eight members at any one time, with no more than two members subordinate to any one Senior Brigade Staff member. Appointment of these Junior Brigade Staff members must be approved by the Brigade Chief and Ultra Director.

Part D: Removal of Brigade Staff

Any member of the SOS Brigade in good standing may call a motion to dismiss a member of the Senior Brigade Staff or a member of the Junior Brigade Staff. In order for this motion to succeed, greater than two-thirds of the SOS Brigade membership (excluding the Brigade Staff member in question) must vote in favor of the motion to dismiss for it to succeed. If this majority is not achieved within 72 hours of the opening of the motion, the motion fails by default. In addition, this motion may be quashed by the Brigade Chief and Ultra Director at any time.

If a member of the Senior Brigade Staff is removed by such a motion to dismiss, a new member will be appointed to fill the newly-vacated role by the Brigade Chief and Ultra Director and must not be the member that was dismissed previously.

Part E: Removal of the Brigade Chief and Ultra Director

Any member of the SOS Brigade in good standing may call a motion to dismiss the Brigade Chief and Ultra Director. In order for this motion to suceed, there must be unanimous agreement amongst the Brigade Staff that the Brigade Chief and Ultra Director is no longer able to perform their duties to the betterment of the SOS Brigade. In addition, a vote of the general membership must be called and greater than three-quarters of the membership must vote in favor of this motion in order for it to succeed. As with the motion to dismiss a member of the Brigade Staff, if this majority of the membership is not achieved within 72 hours of the opening of the motion, the motion will fail.

If the Brigade Chief and Ultra Director is removed by such a motion to dismiss, a new Brigade Chief and Ultra Director will be nominated by consultation amongst the Senior Brigade Staff and the Junior Brigade Staff and must then achieve the approval of at least three-quarters of the SOS Brigade membership to be appointed to the office of Brigade Chief and Ultra Director.

Article Three: Membership

Part A: Enrollment in North High School

Nations wishing to join the SOS Brigade must register at the SOS Brigade's boards and submit an application by filling out the form provided. Once their application is accepted, they will become a Student of North High School, at which point they are required to change their Alliance Affiliation to "SOS Brigade Hopeful". In the course of their enrollment at North High School, the SOS Brigade hopeful will study the core areas required to effectively manage their nation for the betterment of the SOS Brigade and for the betterment of their own people.

Part B: Graduation from North High School

At the conclusion of their studies, the SOS Brigade hopeful will sit the Graduation Examination for North High School, designed to make sure they have learned what is neccessary in their time at North High School. In order to achieve a pass in the Graduation Examination, a student of North High School must achieve the prescribed pass mark or higher in all sections of the paper. Failing the Graduation Examination will result in a three-day cooling-down period before the SOS Brigade hopeful may attempt to sit the Examination again.

Once the Examination has been completed successfully, the SOS Brigade hopeful graduates from North High School and becomes a full member of the SOS Brigade, allowing them to change their Alliance Affiliation ingame to "SOS Brigade".

Part C: Termination of Membership by the Member

If at any time a member of the SOS Brigade feels that they no longer wish to be a member of the SOS Brigade, that member must post a resignation thread on the SOS Brigade forums and must be cleared of all debts and duties to the alliance before leaving.

Part D: Termination of Membership by the Brigade Staff

Any action by a member of the SOS Brigade deemed to be inappropriate and/or of a dangerous or illegal nature may result in the immediate expulsion of the member in question, at the discretion of the Brigade Chief and Ultra Director. Further punishment may be dealt, also at the discretion of the Brigade Chief and Ultra Director.

Article Four: War

Part A: Individual War

No member of the SOS Brigade shall declare any offensive war, or engage in any offensive espionage action unless it has been so authorised by a member of the Senior Brigade Staff or the Brigade Chief and Ultra Director.

Part B: Alliance War

A unanimous vote of the Senior Brigade Staff and the Brigade Chief and Ultra Director is required to approve an aggressive Declaration of War on behalf of the SOS Brigade, except in the case where such a declaration is mandated by a treaty held by the SOS Brigade, in which case only a majority vote of the afformentioned body is required to issue a Declaration of War.

After a looong month of waiting, and even longer months of planning, we are finally ready to unleash ourselves on Planet Bob! Those with weak constitutions should run away screaming.

Also, many thanks to VE for being our protectorate in these tender formative days! :)
