Transvaal’s major international airport at Johannesburg has cancelled all incoming and outgoing flights for today.

Subtleknifewielder
***Classified*** Even the less-than-polite words previously exchanged between the nations had never completely stopped travel to and from these nations, so when the traffic was grounded, it was some cause for concern. A satellite was brought within viewing range of Pretoria, and the ambassador was contacted, both in an attempt to figure out what was going on. Vedran
About half of the two dozen Arctican sleeper agents in Transvaal were in the vicinity of Johannesburg and Pretoria. They tried to covertly observe the situation and get an idea of what was really going on. OOC: I had forgotten about those guys. Yay chekhov's gun. Botha
COUP CRUSHED BY LOYALISTS An attempted coup d'etat lead by Interior Minister Colonel Karl van Zyl was supressed today when loyalist forces to Field Marshal Malan regrouped and stormed the Interior Ministry building after a furious firefight. The whereabouts of Van Zyl are currently unknown after the building was levelled to the ground - but Lieutenant-Colonel Dietrichs Gerhard issued a warrant for his arrest dead or alive. Gerhard then went on Radio-Transvaal to proclaim the military's loyalty to Commander-in-Chief Malan and that 'the Malan Transformation of Transvaal and Southern Africa would continue on its path towards Victory'. HAIL MALAN!

Manetheren
Dear Field Marshal Petrus Malan, It has come to the attention of my Government that Karl Van Zyl and one Mr. de Ruijters - founder of the Verwoerd Front are the same person. How exactly de Ruijters escaped Paraguay and transformed himself into Van Zyl is still under investigation. However, using DNA testing, we could assertain for certain that they are in fact the same individual. Furthermore, Karl Van Zyl has been procuring weapons of various sorts...including chemical and biological...from the Tahoan Ministry of State Security under the now removed Minister of State Security, Field Marshal Tomas O'Coileain. Early this morning O'Coileain was arrested by agents of the Tahoan National Guard (national police) for corruption and violations of national law pertaining to weapons trafficking. We strongly suggest taking Van Zyl and other members of the Interior Ministry (completely infiltrated by the Verwoerd Front) into custody, along with Annejte Van Matteus, who is in fact the mother of de Ruijters/Van Zyl's child and likely a collaborator. Sincerely, Sean Hannity, Minister of State Security
Botha
CYBERNATIONS NEWS NETWORK [PRETORIA]: Field Marshal Petrus Malan, Commander-in-Chief of the Republican Military Government of Transvaal, returned to Pretoria this evening after his overseas visit to Arctica was cut short due to an attempted coup. As soon as his aircraft landed in Johannesburg, Malan was then escorted under heavy armed guard to Government House where he re-asserted his control over the government and the nation. The failed coup was organized and lead by the Interior Minister Karl van Zyl – who has since disappeared during the confusion which gripped the capital when the Interior Ministry offices were attacked by military troops loyal to Marshal Malan. An investigation has been launched - headed by the Transvaler Krygsmagte into recent, questionable activities by the Interior Ministry which had preceded the coup. Ambassador Annetjie van Matteus has since been recalled from Rome to Pretoria ‘for consultation’ although she publicly stated that she had no involvement nor forewarning of the coup. “I am a supporter of the Malan government and did not hear about the coup attempt until after Field Marshal Malan had returned to Transvaal”, she stated to the waiting press around an hour ago as she boarded her flight home. Botha
If Colonel Karl van Zyl can make his way acroos the border they will be safe within Serca. After dusk, four jeeps pull up to the frontier between Transvaal and Serca in the vicinity of Ndola in the Serca panhandle. The border post on the Transvaal side has either been abandoned or closed for the night. Colonel Van Zyl and his dozen cohorts stop for a quick look around before opening the red and white gate across the road. They climb back into their jeeps and drive across the border into Serca. Botha
"Now when you say your 'status' in Serca what exactly do you mean?" Van Zyl's eyes narrowed at General Arban. Botha
JOHANNESBURG FREE PRESS: After a brief investigation, the Republican Military Government has cleared Annetjie van Matteus of any involvement in this week’s abortive coup attempt. “I met with Field Marshal Malan on my arrival back in Transvaal and told him that the first I heard about the coup attempt was after it had taken place. It was news to me as I was stationed in Rome at the time as our ambassador to Italy, making the preparations for his planned visit there. In fact, I was out buying a new pair of shoes when news first reached me via pager.” Ms. Van Matteus then told the press that she was fully behind the Republican Military Government. “Of course I want to see an eventual return to civilian rule, but the current political and economic situation in Transvaal does not permit that.” As a sign of her support, Field Marshal Malan permitted Colonel van Matteus to re-establish her semi-private militia detachment of the Transvaler Oorsese Korps. 250 native African soldiers in the Krygsmagte have been re-assigned to the Korps – although van Matteus has privately stated that she would also ‘seek out foreign recruits, as that was the essence of the Korps, a foreign legion of military exiles.’ = = = Earlier, behind closed doors: Van Matteus was shocked at what Malan had told her. She then re-read the dispatch out of Tahoe. “There is no way that this Van Zyl creep is Uys De Ruijters. Uys is dead. Everyone knows that. Besides, if De Ruijters was alive – wouldn’t he have tried to re-connect with our daughter? Joanne has been under tight supervision while in Italy and at our home in Windhoek. I have heard of no unusual visits or reports out of the ordinary.”
Botha
After settling in at the old farmhouse in the Ndola district, the patrols radioed to Van Zyl that all was quiet and appeared calm. The farmstead was nondescript and typical of many also found in Transvaal, which appealed to the former interior minister in that it did not attract any undue, outside attention. Of course the Sercan authorities knew he was there, but after a couple of days they left him alone and gave him and his small band of men some space and distance. De Ruijters walked outside to take in the cool night air. While in theory it was the middle of winter right now, one would not know that from the breezy sunshine which had basked down since his arrival. The night air felt good, as the farm house had no air conditioning for refuge from the warm days. De Ruijters light up a cigarette and took a puff. He looked off at the silhouette of the trees in the distance. He thought about his next moves. The coup attempt had been a risky venture but he wanted to test the resolve of the RMG’s loyalty towards Malan as well as the strength of the opposition groups – which prove to be non-existent. He calculated that with Malan out of the country, if the military’s morale was going to ever crack and break under political pressure, then that is when it would have occured. He however did not expect Lieutenant-Colonel Dietrichs Gerhard’s response would be so fast – although he never had any doubts as to the loyalty of the lieutenant-colonel towards Malan. Once the Karma War surrender terms expire in just under one month, then things would become really interesting. The army was pretty much in Malan’s grip, but the air force and navy – once rebuilt – would likely toe their own line. De Ruijters believed that Admiral Kruger, an ally of Paul Cruywagen, would demand a voice in the RMG. Likewise with Flight Commander Leonard Wise, another close and long-time ally of the now-exiled marshal who was currently residing in Arctica. That is when he would strike... when the military reached the point it was at each others’ throats. With their attention turned against themselves, the RMG would be ill-prepared and completely caught by surprise when he began the VF’s systematic elimination of the ‘black spots’. As he extinguished his cigarette, De Ruijters figured his first order of business was secretly transporting his stockpile of soman across the border. At last reports, his tankers were just across the frontier, waiting around two hours away. The it was just a matter of waiting until Transvaal was cleared to acquire military aircraft, so that he could buy his own and disguise them as Lugmag equipment. Maelstrom Vortex
Dragonisia continues its policy of attempting cultural level changes via indirect and commercial means and through subtle fund transfers to dissidents via legal commercial activity and selective commerce. The Blue Dragons (Dragonisian State Intelligence Apparatus) also have slowly filtered into the country still under the auspices of trade and continue to provide information and support to dissidents. They are focused on working with pro-democracy/republic groups with no particular ethnic alignment.
