Doctors gave him a 33% chance of surviving. The Pope did not wake up until very recently, when the Camerlengo struck his head gently with a silver hammer and called out, "Karol." For the first time, Pope John Paul III responded to him. OOC: So is anyone else gonna help out in the investigation or what? And when are you guys gonna interrogate the gunman? After boarding off the plane the Cardinals approached them and said to them, "Thank you very much for coming. He hasn't told us anything except 'Death to the Pope.' We've found out that his name is Zrinko Popić, and that he's a citizen of Artica." "Thanks. We'll see what we can do," replied one of the agents. Two cars pulled up for the investigators. At the moment he was quiet and simply stared at the door, knowing that as long as he was alive, his captors would get some kind of information from him eventually. He still did not know that his attack on the Pope had failed. He jumped a little as he heard the door unlocking and saw it begin to open. However, under the National Law of 1924, all crimes against the Church are investigated, charged and tried by the military. The Military will hold a Tribunal under JAG General Martina aka Prince Joseph, Son of Elaine, against the perpetrators of this heinous act. However, for assaulting the Holy Father, we can GUARANTEE that the perpetrators of this act will be executed by firing squad. So, the Minilla Island military wishes to assist in the investigation. The Vatican thanks Minilla Island for their offer. Unfortunately, the Church is against any form of capital punishment and therefore declines the offer. But the prisoner would prove uncooperative, prompting one of the investigators to grin nastily, bringing out a knife and casually trimming his fingernails as the one who did the talking asked, "who helped you?" When the investigator began to ask him about his name and origin, he stayed silent. His eyes locked on to the knife as the man took it out, widening a little with fear, then shot back to his face, the fear gone. Zrinko cursed the man's mother and spat on the floor. In a lightning move, he reached out and slapped Zrinko across the face. Not hard, but enough to let him know whose mercy he was in right now. "Who says he's my Pope? You tried to kill a man of peace. I wouldn't care if he was your antichrist--if he was advocating world peace, I'd be here interrogating you. Oh, and one little note. You didn't kill him. Your mission failed. The Pope is alive. Your masters probably won't be too happy about that, now will they?" he left off there, with the implication that the man's masters probably would torture and kill him themselves if they got ahold of him. The one with the knife grinned even more widely, displaying teeth that had been filed to sharp points, almost making them look like fangs. I did the world a favor in...in...what do you mean he's not dead?" Zrinko's face scrunched up at that in frustration. His mission had failed, and the investigator was right in thinking that the Cardinal would punish him if he ever returned. If Zrinko hadn't lost his cyanide capsule, he wouldn't be in this situation right now. Zrinko looked at the man's teeth and winced, shrinking himself back into the corner. How much do they know? he thought. His eyes lit up a little and he looked up at the investigator, smiling. "Maybe instead of wasting your time with me, you should be watching out for your Pope. My comrades will quickly regroup and kill him like the dog he is." Zrinko smiled wider, all the while wondering if the two had any idea he was lying his $@! off. "You didn't think I was working alone, did you?" He laughed. "It's too late to do anything about it. Just keep an eye on the news for a few days...you'll see..." Then why didn't they strike while he was comatose? It shouldn't be that hard to kill a defenseless man, in fact much easier than what you tried. It was really stupid of you not to have back-up in place before you attempted this, at least if you hadn't been working alone. So I really doubt you were working with anyone. But you obviously had help to get as far as you did..." The interrogator wasn't absolutely positive he was right--for all he knew, they had had twenty others in the crowd, but he kept his own confident, knowing smile in place. We would like to send a team of medical professionals and members of the LASER Corps to aid and protect His Holiness throughout the rest of his tour. The LASER Corps members have vowed their lives to protect His Holiness. In other words, they have no problem in sacrificing their lives for the safety of the Holy Father. "Someone will get him, sooner or later. Snakes like him don't live long. You'll all pay." Zrinko may have been a fanatic, but he wasn't stupid. He knew there was no way this was going to end well for him, so the best he could do is delay telling them anything for as long as he could to give the cardinal time to save himself, and maybe throw them off by feeding them false information in the process. No doubt after news of who ordered the attack became public, the Arcticans would be coming after the cardinal. However, this line of thinking would lead him to make an error, because he would give them a false country of origin when they began coercing him more aggressively. The knife was still in his hand as he casually walked around the table and put his face an inch away from the prisoner's. The knife went thunk as he embedded it in the chair a fraction of an inch from a rather...sensitive piece of anatomy, and the grin grew even nastier. "Oops, must have slipped," he said, not sounding at all like he meant it. "A little too far forward." He reached down and grasped the knife by the handle, pulling it out once more. "Really, it'll go much easier on you if you co-operate," said the original interrogator, as the sharptoothed one continued to stare from his close perspective. As soon as he was taken out, he ordered that he be taken to Shepard One immediately to fly to Palintine to continue his tour. When medics disagreed, he simply said, "Who's the Pope? You or me?" A local bishop commented that he had been using that argument alot nowadays, so the next heads of states should keep this in mind. Make no mistake about it, the Land, Air and Sea Emergency Reserves (LASERs) swear their very lives to the protection of the Holy Father. They live the principles of their motto: "God, King, Country, and Holy Mother Church." So, unless you got the greatest weapon known to mankind, NOBODY will be able to attack the Holy Father. The prime minister had no choice but to allow his clearance into Palintine; however, he could force his hand to allow extra security. Normally the pope's arrival in countries is covered by their local media, but the prime minister has blocked local and international press from attending this event. Instead, the pope's transport will be redirected to Shek Kong Airfield, a Palintine Volunteer Army base primarily devoted to transport. The area will be sealed off from public traffic. Since the last assassination attempt on the prime minister (last of three), the police and military presence in the nation has been increased tenfold. After wheeling the Holy Father to his bed, Major General Lee attaches wires to the Holy Father, and takes a full preliminary CAT scan. It is determined that the vitals are normal and his brainwaves are functional. Therefore, it is in Major General Lee's expert medical opinion, that the Holy Father does not need to be in the Hospital at this time.
