National Anthem

Du gamla, Du fria, Du fjällhöga nord

Du tysta, Du glädjerika sköna!

Jag hälsar Dig, vänaste land uppå jord,

Din sol, Din himmel, Dina ängder gröna.

Du tronar på minnen från fornstora dar,

då ärat Ditt namn flög över jorden.

Jag vet att Du är och Du blir vad Du var.

Ja, jag vill leva jag vill dö i Norden.

Translation:

You ancient, you free, you mountainous North

You quiet, you joyful beauty!

I greet you, most beautiful land upon earth,

Your sun, Your sky, Your meadows green.

You throne upon memories of great olden days,

When honored your name flew over the world,

I know that you are and will be as you were,

Yes, I want to live I want to die in the North

Geography

Situated in Northern Europe, Sverige lies west of the Baltic Sea and Gulf of Bothnia, providing a medium coastline, and forms the mid-eastern part of the Scandinavian Peninsula. To the west is the Scandinavian mountain chain (Skanderna), a range that separates Sverige from Norway. Sverige is surrounded by Norway (west), Nordheim (north), Lubeck (south) and the Baltic Sea (east). It has maritime borders with the Republic of Mariehamm, Nordheim, Freistaat Preußen, Lubeck, and Norway. Sverige covers an area of 158,906 sq kilometers (98 739.6107 miles).

Demographics

Sverige has 12,316,000 inhabitants and a population density of 77.51. About 95% of the population idenitifies as Sverige, the rest are minorities of Danish, Sami and Norwegian. There is also a small Jewish community of 50.000 people in Stockholm. 64,3% of the Sverig population is a member of the Svenska Kyrkan, which was until a few years ago the state church. Numbers that visit services of this church hover around the 2%. A majority of the population identifies as atheist or agnostic, even when being a member of the Svenska Kyrkan.

Administration and politics

Sverige is ruled by King Kristian I. He is the absolute ruler of Sverige, but is also a man with modern ideas, he is slowly converting the country into a modern democracy. There are however powers in the country that oppose these modernizations. Notable opponents include the nationalistic Rött Partiet (Red Party), which ironically is not communistic at all, and the paramilitary grouping Folkvakter (People's Guards).

King Kristian was crowned king of Sverige in 1993 after his uncle, king Harald III and his family were killed in an assassination when a group of communists rebels hijacked the plane they were on. He was therefore the only surviving heir of the Sverig throne. His coronation was accompanied by riots partly organized by the Rött Partiet, who feared that he would navigate the country in a whole other direction then his rather conservative uncle.

The King rules the country together with the Riksradet, a council of 6 important advisor's who each lead an important branch of government. In 1999 the king signed a new Constitution which among others things instituted a parliament called the Riksdag. The Riksdag has 199 seats. This was supposed to be the national legislative assembly of Sverige, but opposing forces weakened its position even before it was founded. At the moment this Riksdag only has advisory rights on laws that are made by the Riksradet. Members of the Riksdag serve 5 years and are elected on personal title, because political parties are officially forbidden in Sverige. Current talman (speaker) of the Riksdag is Kalle Lund, a progressive businessman who believes democracy can only be beneficial for Sverige.

Riksrådet

Riksjarl Johan Andersson (Lord High General: Commander of the Army & Home Guard)

Riksdrots Johan Ahlstad (Lord High Justiciar: Head of the Court of Appeal)

Riksmarsk Niklas Bergquist (Lord High Constable: Minister of Internal Affairs)

Riksamiral Kristoffer Cronstedt (Lord High Admiral: Commander of the Airforce & Coastguard )

Rikskansler Rikard Eriksen (Lord High Chancellor: Minister of Foreign Affairs)

Riksskattmästare Linus Thorvalson (Lord High Treasurer: Minister of Finance)

The Home Guard

The Home Guard is organised in battalions, covering parts of a county. These battalions are then organised into companies, usually one for every municipality. The main task of the battalions is to guard vital military and civilian installations throughout the country.

Also attached to every battalion is at least one "Rapid Response Platoon/Company" (Insatspluton/Insatskompani). These platoons/companies are usually motorized and are ready to be mobilized more often than other Home Guard units. Rapid Response units have more combat tasks compared to the rest of the Home Guard, including escort duties. Some battalions located near the coast also have marine companies equipped with Combat Boat 90.

A few battalions have recently set up 'specialized' companies to evaluate the possibility to add new abilities to the National Guard. These are at the time of writing two Reconnaissance/Intelligence companies in Stockholm.

The Home Guard consists of 84,000 soldiers organized into 192 battalions of 300-700 personnel. There also are 244 Rapid Response Platoons and 54 Rapid Response Company Commands (Insatskompaniledning).

Coast Guard

At the moment Sverige does not really have an actual Navy. There is however a Coast Guard that is heavily armed. It consists of 8 Corvettes stationed in Nynäshamn.

OOC: I do have 8 ingame Corvettes

airforce.png

Since Sverige has historically been blocked passages to North Sea and beyond by foreign entities, therefore it has always invested heavy in airforce. Sverige has three main military airports, Stockholm, Gävle, and Jönköping. The Airforce is almost equally divide in three commands, 1st FK's (short for Flygvapnets kommandot, airforce command) each occupying one of the FK's. The Sverige Airforce amployes aproximatley 6,000 men.
