We argue over plenty of things. Jurisdiction. Spying. Existence. Perceived and committed wrongs. All that stuff. However, sometimes our disagreements boil down to a simple misinterpretation of the another person's or alliance's goal, and the hate spawns some nasty hatchlings. So perhaps this will help. If you believe that you, or your alliance, or your friends have been misunderstood in any way or form, feel free to use what I have to offer, however little it may be. How do I plan to carry out my intent? A: Provide a list of questions that outline basic logical areas of consideration. Why does my methodology fall in line with my intent? A: The questions I provided will force a person to break down whatever arguements they may have to a basic level that everyone should be able to understand. Where [might] I have done something wrong along the way? A: I think that I could have made the list more extensive and less open-ended. Who [might] have I wronged to carry out my intent? A: Myself. This could be a success, or I'll look really stupid by the end of this. The range of subjects do not have to be on the current events plaguing Planet Bob/Digiterra. Feel obliged to delve as deeply into the past as you like. As a last request, please show restraint and courtesy when replying to this thread; people are attempting to allow others to understand themselves. I know that's probably not possible, but it would be nice. Now do with it what you will. This thread's success depends entirely on the Cyberverse now. Go on the old forums from '06 and I think people conducted themselves with a much more polite and 'in character' demeanour, remaining IC more often and RP'ing as rulers of nations, rather than as individuals simply wanting to win arguments and score points (LUE and /B/ aside). I think a lot of people are looking at the past through rose-colored glasses. From the outside looking in, I remember a LOT of brutal things being said on the forums during nearly every war. It's not entirely surprising that this one might be stirring up a bit more in the way of posting, considering people have been waiting for years to kick the NPO while they're down, but I wouldn't even remotely say it's somehow magnitudes worse than ever before. I wouldn't even necessarily say this is the worst I've ever seen it. Though even if one was to concede the point, it might also be argued that there were times in the past when the forums weren't as hostile, not so much because people were more polite, gentile, or intellectual, as much as it was that everyone was terrified of actually saying what was on their minds out of fear of getting murdered if they stuck their head out of the sand. And if that's honestly the case, I think I prefer open hostility to violent repression (whether actual or simply through general terror). Things were twice as brutal in 06 as they are now, I don't know what past everyone else is remembering. The big difference is people didn't take it so personally and seriously back then. Seriously, some of the crap that Grenval and P_C posted on a regular basis would probably get you banned these days. There was significantly less crying about it, though, if I remember. I think people embellish their memories of the past to support themselves in their viewpoints of how things should be. It's a convenient way out of developing a proper explanation for why they feel as they do. Personally I do prefer the hostility and the dramatics, it's a lot more fun than everyone playing nice (don't let my IC self catch me saying that!) and I wish everyone wouldn't take themselves so seriously as to get genuinely upset when someone calls them an idiot. edit: forgot a word!
