After less than three months in office, the Zuganov government has tendered its resignation. The short lived administration had an approval rating of more than 62%, and the resignation was completely unexpected. The President’s resignation was accompanied by a dissolution order to dissolve the Parliament in preparation for a new election cycle. President Zuganov is expected to issue a statement shortly, however Socialist party MPs are reeling from the shock.

Rumors are beginning to circulate that the President’s close friend and trusted ally, his Deputy President, will be indicted by the Tribunal shortly. If the rumors are true, it would be a major embarrassment for the government and for the Socialist Party.

Political analysts have theorized that with backlash against the Nationalist Party over the VDR fiasco, and possible backlash against the Socialist Party, the role of minor parties will be more important in forming the next government. It is unclear at this point who is ahead in the opinion polls, as there still has been no clarification regarding the resignation of the President and his government.

The Vaule Electoral Commission has confirmed the registration of the political party the “Vauleya Fenix Partido (VFP)” which is expected to be confirmed as a contender in the Legislative and Presidential elections. The VFP describes itself as a “Moderate Meritocratic Socialist party”. Hours after the resignation of the government, the VFP began aggressive campaigning all across Vaule and is expected to introduce it’s leader shortly.
