[AEGIS] The Emperor of the Dragon Empire hosts a banquet.

Recommended Posts

Ladies, Gentlemen, and Things of Aegis,

It has been a time since I last addressed you. Some of you have never seen my penned word before. The world is to vastly separated, and I think it is time we fixed this issue and sought ways to co-operate further. That said, I am hosting a banquet in the City of Dragonisia. Interpreting devices customized to your languages are all being provided since we've had time to study and refine your languages. We have done our best to accomodate your greatly varied tastes.

The banquet will be held in 3 short days, please expedite your arrival. I look forward to meeting you in person. Please invite representatives from any species you have encountered with which we may not have made contact with. If you do, please ask them to bring writing and language samples for our linguistics corps to analyze.

Best wishes to you and your people,

Maelstrom Vortex

This letter was interpreted into all available written languages and recorded in those that were not by interpreters for delivery by courier around the world to those races the Dragon Empire had successfully made contact with.

The Great Chief Neville Chamberlain, a number of warriors, and a shaman have set out from the Garura capital and will be there shortly. They are carrying gifts of meat to add to the banquet.

OOC: And here I thought this was dead.

ooc: Nope, just got distracted by the last war, then the local flooding here. FEMA is on their way here, that's how bad it was. This flood is only a 100 or 1000 year event, it was NASTY.

ic: The Emperor would be on hand to greet the retinues as they arrived at the banquet hall. Butlers would escort them to their assigned seats which had their names and the names of their nations/peoples in front of them. Most of the food was covered at the moment.

Being a high-ranking member of the Scout Corps, Hukaat was trained, at least in the basics, of flight. Nevertheless, as their destination came into sight, he relaxed slightly, breathing a sigh of relief only once he was landed and had taxied to a stop.

He removed the helmet but left on the red headband, wiping his his face with a handkerchief, as a very thin sheen of sweat had built up.

But he couldn't remain in there forever. Sighing again, he popped the canopy, turning around to offer a hand to the woman accompanying him. He had had a couple days to get used to the idea that against all prior procedure, a full-blooded human was being sent as their diplomat. He still was not sure why Baati was here as they first stepped down, then turned around to see who had come to greet them...

There was an entourage of about 10 Storm Dragon diplomatic staff wearing jeweled adornments and ceremonial militaristic uniforms. They opened the door to an over-sized vehicle whose interior had been customized to give comfort to both the storm dragons and their guests. A choice in drinks was available between the passenger seats. The door was opened by one of the attendants for Hukaat and Baati.

They opened the door to an over-sized vehicle whose interior had been customized to give comfort to both the storm dragons and their guests. A choice in drinks was available between the passenger seats. The door was opened by one of the attendants for Hukaat and Baati.

Smiling and bowing in their customary fashion (Baati doing her best not to stare openly at the splendor of their hosts), they entered the vehicle. Nothing like it existed in their nation (yet), except for the war machines the dwarves referred to as tanks.

They perused the selection of drinks, both finally making a non-alcoholic choice.

Hukaat was also in the military uniform of his people, an interesting camoflage pattern designed specifically for scrubland, except for the dark blue sash and the colorful medals that decorated it.

Baati was in a dress of pure sky blue, to matche her eyes. The article of clothing draped over her shoulders and flowed down her body to a point between her knees and ankles.

Roxas touched down in a compact, one-seater aircraft. He stepped out of the plane clad as usual in the highly ceremonial robe granted to him as a leader of the Nobodies. The smooth obsidian cloth was light and yet amazingly resistant to both blade and bullet; one of the advancements granted by the Nobodies' single-minded research into synthetic fibers.

He strode confidently towards the waiting vehicle and stepped inside.

Lord Casimir, Lady Shaneera, and Prince Gressi shall attend this event.

---

The three of them had never flown before, much less ever left the homeland, so it was both an exciting and nervewracking little adventure. Dressed in the traditional ceremonial garb of Sahk royalty, they took in the awe of Dragonisia as they landed.

All arriving parties like the envoys from the Mando'ade were likewise welcomed into a customized vehicle as part of a motorcade. On their way to the banquet, they were provided with an earpiece and clip on microphone that would interpret conversations into their language. Their hosts would help them test the settings to make sure all was properly configured before arrival to prevent any public embarrassment. As they pulled up, they would notice the palace was getting crowded. Many had decided to attend. Each motorcade in turn, would pull up to the curb before the main entrance and allow their guests to exit.

The Dragonisian press and paparazzi were out in force. Nothing like this had ever been done at the royal palace and it was unheard of for the Emperor to give an audience, let alone to have a banquet with this many guests. They were truly fascinated. The clicks and chattering of the crowd in native dragonisian translated into comments on everything from wardrobe to how strange the foreigners look to speculations on international motives.. every sector of the media was present and every one had its own slant on the activities of the day.

A long red carpet had been laid out, Dragonisian carpet was in particular a heavy fiber.. industrial strength, to prevent it from being easly torn by sharp talons. If any guests had arrived bear-footed, they would note that it had a notably harsh texture to soft skin akin to standing on sandpaper. The sky was crystal blue, the weather had been reviewed purely for the event. The air was clean, in this part of the city industry was severely curtailed as it was near the center of government so smog was at a minimum.

The palace itself was of roman architecture with many open air spaces and many Carthage style columns. This design was notably suited to the Dragonisians who had relatively bulky bodies relative to their peers. Furniture and obstructions were sparsely placed, giving a feel for openness and space. High vaulted ceilings, particularly high to shorter species, made one feel like they hand to crane their necks to an extreme simply to get a view of the mosaics which constituted the roof. The Mosaics depicted scenes in Dragonisian mythology or basic constellations, a very classic stylization of art.

The entryway into the palace itself was an open air foyer that lead back many rows of columns to a set of gilded double doors. As the guests approached, two guards blew on trumpets designed for the proboscis mouths of the Dragonisians and then slowly opened the doors. Inside was an ornate living area with a variety of furniture suited to the various anatomies of their guests and several larger pieces with holes in them suited to the Dragonisians and their tails.

On the walls were oil and water paintings of scenes throughout Dragonisian history of exploration and rebellion. The earliest painting was called "The Hunt" and was actually copy of a cave wall abstract created in the dawn of their history, the first known depiction of a Dragonisian killing a sentient being as part of their basic day-to-day feeding. It appeared to be a stick figure of a human with a spear. The paintings were covered by several layers of protection from multiple environmental factors relating to the Dragonisian's living style.

There were a few windows in this room which provided most of the light and an overhead sun-roof which was currently closed by a slide-able stained glass window in spring colors. The room inside may not be comfortable to all, the temperature stood at a constant 83 degrees, something that befit the Dragonisian's reptilian blood. It was also notably humid, something imposed by the Dragonisian ventilation systems.

An escort, who had walked with the guests and guided them noted, "Please be seated. The meals will be prepared shortly. The Emperor will be coming out to welcome you in even shorter order." He then gestured to the provided seating arrangement.

The tests of the earpieces went without a hitch, and Hukaat nodded approvingly. Such technology would be very useful, and combined with the archives of many languages in their capital, there could potentially be great benefits to working with thge Dragonisians on this.

As they arrived, they did notice the palace was getting crowded. They may have been the first foreign dignitaries to arrive, but as they stepped out of the vehicle and linked arms, they noted that behind them were several more such, each more than likely containing a representative of another race, or at the very least another culture.

The paparazzi and press took them a little by surprise. Being a warrior culture, the Mando'ade were more used to getting their news by word-of-mouth or proclomation from the ruling council. However, they smiled and waved, as that was apparently what they were supposed to do; they did not stop to talk.

The weather seemed to match the excited air of the crowd--perfectly sunny, and not a cloud in the sky.

The red carpet prompted a raised eyebrow from Baati, who was not used to such treatment, but again she made no comment. However, it was the palace that truly drew her eye. In a word...she was impressed. Truth be told, so was Hukaat, but he hid it better.

They continued to be impressed even as they entered--the trumpeteers, the doors, and the ornate furnishings. Neither was used to such luxury, Batti because she was only middle-class and not exactly wealthy, and Hukaat because he, up until a short time ago, had spent most of his time in his offices or in the field.

They perused the paintings as they passed them, actually going backwards chronologically. When they came to the first, "The Hunt," they were a little unnerved (not at the graphics, as it was rather crude, but at the concept depicted) and didn't spend unduly long studying it.

Uncosciously, Baati shivered. While most humans would find the temperature a little stifling, it was actually a bit cooler than what her people were used to. The humidity, though, made her feel right at home.

When their escort indicated their assigned seats, they promptly, gratefully took the offer. Now they simply began studying the other arriving guests. Some appeared human or nearly so, while others (such as their hosts, or the delegation from the Holy Roman Empire) were obviously of different species.

For the Emperor and his family, the earpieces had to be slightly adjusted, as their ears were quite a bit different from those of most other known species. Otherwise, however, the translation-technology did good (if occasionally bland, as it apparently couldn't rponounce in the same way as a person) work, the Empress noting that the HGE should create translation-devices of their own.

The carpet's rough texture would not be noticed by the Imperial Family, as they were wearing shoes. Similarly, the press and paparazzi would be ignored, the family being used to similarly big events in their homecountry. Additionally, two of the Holy Fist were escorting the family, each of them a highly trained elite soldier rumoured to be capable of stopping a small army on their own.

The Emperor was wearing a wardrobe created specifically for such occasions. (OOC: Like this pic, only with an alekian in it, not a human. Obviously.)

The weather was quite suitable for the rulers of the German Empire, while the dragonisian palace was not particularly impressive, though interesting, the Empress and her children - four in total, three sons and a daughter - looking at the mosaics and artpieces.

Once arrived in what the Emperor assumed to be the banquet room, where they would be assigned their seats, sitting into them. The temperature was similar to the summers in the German Empire, and thus was not bothering them too much.

While the Empress was talking with the children - each raised to be obedient, but independent, something hard to do - the Emperor Himself was watching the various people coming into the room, raising an eyebrow once or twice at their looks.

The Ambassador refused the ear clip, as he had already learned to speak Storm Dragon.

Their guides advised them in Storm Dragonese that these interpreter devices were not meant solely to interpret their language, but that they expected nations from around the globe to be present and once again attempted to get them to take the ear clips and translators mics. "Unless you know every tongue that will be present, in which case we are going to be very impressed at your range of vocalization."

Inside

The room they were in was one of the living rooms of the palace, used for hosting and greeting guests. The Emperor would slowly join them, coming down some stairs that lead into the back of the room from an upper floor. About him he wore a long grey robe with gold trim and highlights in a runic pattern.. they were perhaps the most conservative and comfortable garments the Dragonisians could wear with their tails. On each arm he wore steel bracers with a bronzed finish. His horns and head were decorated by a steel, bronzed crown. The crown was.. as typical in many cultures, the symbol of the monarchy. Dragonisians valued strength over beauty and so a bronzed steel was very appropriate for the purpose of the crown which had one central emerald in its forward face that matched the Emperor's serpentine emerald eyes.

He nodded to the attendants, "Glad to see everyone could make it okay. It is a pleasure to see many of you face to face for the first time. How went your journeys? I hope my personnel have been aptly accommodating."

Casimir noted the arrival of the Emperor, nodding his approval curtly, but largely remaining silent.

The Emperor had watched the Dragonisian ruler approaching, noting that the crown was not of gold or silver, but a..."lesser" material, one which could be used for war and in battle.

Semarotal, the german Ruler, wore no such artificial crown, for his head-hair and eyes defined him as the ruler of his people - they were white, to the point of seeming unnatural. Once Vortex had spoken, Semarotal responded, with a voice that could rally millions and make them endure incredible things.

"I and the Imperial Family had a very pleasant journey, and as of now, We are satisfied with your personnel for the time being."

Hukaat nodded approvingly, and Baati was impressed too. She was the one who spoke.

"It is as he says. Your personnel have been most accomodating, and the trip here was very pleasant. Although..." she bit her lip, not sure if she should ask the next question, but still deciding in favor of speaking.

"The crowd outside your palace took us by surprise. Who are they? What were they here for?" Hukaat whipped his head around to face her and frowned. His lips tightening as if restraining a censure, he shook his head and returned his gaze to the Dragon Emperor.
