Amyante
As the result of the recent terrorist attacks and subsequent near-complete collapse of the monarchy, freedom of speech, voting and the threat of launching the Proxian Empire in a state of nuclear war with its neighbouring countries, the House of Stormgate hereby declares Rathlin Island independant. Though we have had no disputes with King Douglas I, these events were set in motion after the vulnerabilities in security the terrorists exploited, and the preparations have passed the point where they can be undone. We hope King Douglas I understands the rather difficult situation we have currently ended up in in trying to set up a safe haven for the people of Proxia, and that it will be known that we harbor no ill will towards either King Douglas I or President DeSchaine of neighbouring Taeunas. Sincerely, Amyante Stormgate the First Queen of Zargathia P.S. In making sure that no terrorists flee through our country, we have positioned our military at the borders and have closed our borders to immigrants until we have a constitution in place. We assure you that we have no intention to attack neither the Proxian Empire nor the Republic of Taeunas. Amyante
"The Zargathian government regrets the Proxian stance towards our nation. In clarification, the throne wishes to point out that the ancestry of its line can be traced back to Tory Island, and thusly have a hereditary claim to the island. Though we agree that it was sudden, we would have to disagree on the matter of legality." Taking a deep breath, the queen leans back in her seat, watching out of the window. Still no word from the Taeunians, and it was their reply which she was feeling the most nervous about. That King Douglas I had ended up alive was good news in itself, but it also meant her plans were on the verge of going to Hell. She just hoped President DeSchaine would be more forgiving now that Proxas had effectively slammed the door shut behind her. Proxian Empire
The only nations that held any previous control over the territory of Tory Island were Dun Carrig and the Proxian Empire respectively. As Dun Carrig was a republic and you hold no lineage to the House of Penchuk, your claims over this territory is illegitimate. To my knowledge you have not contacted President DeSchaine, nor has he granted you control over this land. As this island is not sovereign and in fact territory rightfully owned by Taeunas, we will not support your ridiculous claim to our ally's territory. OOC: This is not how you start a nation. You ask for permission from the owner of the land and if they see fit they will grant it to you. This is how DeSchaine received Ireland in the first place, by asking for my permission and thus receiving Ireland. I made the mistake of supporting Margrave's claims of Northern Ireland and I will certainly not support this ridiculous and illegal RP move. Markus Wilding
OOC: I believe in the Respect thread he specifically said that he PM'ed deSchaine. I don't know if that's true or not, but at least wait for him before you go crazy on the guy. He's a new RPer, so cut him a LITTLE slack. Amyante
OOC: Ah, but you misunderstand my intentions... As mentioned in my OP, Zargathia was founded as a place of refuge for the people of Proxia to turn to during the Mercer incident, where King Douglas I was assumed to have died. It was a panic reaction ICly, and simply me sticking to my SOI OOCly, and after some uncomfortable diplomatic moments (given that the Proxian King is still alive) arrangements will be made to either move the country to a section that is still free or retain Tory Island as a territory of my own. This is just me separating myself from Proxia and Taeunas ICly, though it'd be nice to get the territory of my first choice i am well aware that i have no say in this matter, and am thus looking for alternatives in case i fail to convince DeSchaine and you ICly. I assume nothing, and there is a reason the negotiations of what is supposed to happen next take place in the same thread i've declared independance in. In short: Don't worry, everything will be fine. I'm just acting in character ^^ ((As for the hereditary stuff, i was referencing the Celts from Ireland that settled in the Scottish Highlands and mingled with the Picts living there, 10th century AD stuff, not actual RP here. If i made a mistake making this reference, i apologise.)) Edit: Yes, i PM'd DeSchaine with more or less the same info i gave you, that i was declaring independance of Tory Island from Taeunas and that i would welcome uncomfortable diplomatic negotiations to take place in this topic. Though i didn't ask him if it was okay for me to, the declaration wasn't intended to be a permanent one unless said negotiations go exceptionally well. If this was unclear, i am to blame for it. DeSchaine
Conor Murphy walked the hall from his office to that of Gerry Adams, the Foreign Secretary. He paused at the door and sighed. This was not going to be a good day. He knocked. "Come in." said Gerry as he looked up. "Ah, Conor, what can I do for the Interior Minister this fine soft day?" "Gerry, we have an issue. Have you seen the telly?" "No, cant say as I have. Whats arseways?" "You know Rathlin Island, up north?" "Aye, been there many a time when I was a lad in Belfast. What of it?" "They just declared independance from us." Gerry blinked a few times and let his mouth hang open. "Gerrupdeyard! There canna be more 'n a hundred people on that island!" "No foolin. Just happened a few minutes ago." Gerry huffed into mustache. "Ok, we'll need to grab Richard and head to the President. Come on." With that he stood up and walked out the door, Murphy right beside him as he ducked into the office of the Armed Forces Secretary. "Richard, come on me boyo, we have to see Christos about an eight mile problem." "Er, ok." Richard Mulchay looked confused as he rose and joined the others headed for the Head Office. As they passed through the door into the reception area they heard the secretary Kaitlin on the phone. "Yes, sir, I'll get them right... actually sir, they just walked in." She hung up and looked up. "You can go right in, he's expecting you, and he's in a slightly foul mood." As they entered, DeSchaine caught sight of them. "WHAT THE DEVIL IS GOING ON?" he bellowed. "Some gobdaw on a sliver of land smaller than this city wants to be an independant nation? Bags!" And so the discussion started. It went on for almost an hour, but by the end of it, President DeSchaine was visibly calmer. It was decided that a small team from the Taeunas Rangers would infiltrate the island and, discrete observations, and report back. At 0300 hours, a team of six rangers made landfall in Oweynagolman Cave, just under the east lighthouse and below the fabled ruins of Bruce's Castle, a place that Robert the Bruce fled to in 1306. Secureing the small Zodiac boat, they made their way to the surface and took up station in the lighthouse. At dawn, they would put on their civies and wander to town as tourists. Amyante
It had been a busy day for Amyante, Queen of the nation of Zargathia. Where she had expected resistance among the local populace about separating itself from the mainland she had recieved enthousiastic support, the inhabitants going as far as to take up arms and form volunteer militias to strengthen her forces. While she didn't want to turn down these offers she managed to get them to patrol their own hometowns, hopefully doing little damage when the Taeunian troops would show up. And they would, she was certain of that. Still, she enjoyed the moment, waving at cheering locals as if she were some kind of storybook hero, still getting used to the completely unexpected reaction from what now were her people. After what felt like the hundreth speech of the day, she waved before stepping off the wooden platform, and walking back to the Mil Mi-24 Hind that would be taking her back home. The pilot, whom had essentially come with the deal when she had acquired the aircraft in a somewhat shady deal, was already starting up the engines by the time she boarded the helicopter along with her bodyguards, and waited for orders before liftoff. Amyante tapped the man on the shoulder before giving him her orders. - "Sergei! Take us home." With a smile, she turned back to the passenger section to prepare for the trip back to the ruins of Bruce's Castle, where they had set up a temporary base. It was ironic, in a way, that the castle was once again housing a Scottish rogue ruler after all these years, but she figured she'd be needing all the help she could get, and the walls were still solid enough to use for cover should the worst happen. She just hoped it would not.
DeSchaine
OOC: You do realize that this island is only about 8 miles long by like 2 wide and is only three miles from the mainland, right? IC: Just north of Balintoy, on a rocky outcroping in the water, sat a pair of missile turrets. One contained six Hydra anti-ship missiles. The other was a double quad rack of Bansidhe anti-aircraft missiles. The Bansidhe rack had its own tracking control radar, which instantly picked up on the chopper over Rathlin. It sounded an alert at the fire control center near Derry. "Contact... we have a bogey over Rathlin... no scheduled flights today." said the corporal sitting at the station. The Captain in charge of this defender unit looked up. He'd read the orders from Dublin concerning the sepratists. "Take it out, one pair." "Aye sir. Firing one pair." The corporal flipped the covers off of buttons marked three and four and jabbed them with his finger. Near Balintoy, two missiles fired and screamed off the rails. They instantly began tracking in on the chopper. On the island, the Ranger team noted the sound of the helo as it moved. They moved to the windows of the lighthouse, with a man on the top of the light itself, and chambered rounds into their rifles.
Amyante
OOC: The way i saw it, it'd be mostly a farming community, which would mean mostly farms centered around small town centers. Given that you mentioned somewhere around a hundred people. Though i made it seem like there are millions of people standing in line for a glimpse of the Queen, they're more small clusters of people of about a dozen at most. Likewise, the 'militia' shouldn't pose much of a problem, they'd be likely to be armed with pitchforks and scythes for that matter. Thanks for the reminder though ^^ IC: The pilot saw a red warning light start to blink on his panel, and mentioned something in his native tongue that would probably best remain untranslated. Yelling back, he was already piloting the Hind into evasive manoevers as he warned the passengers. - "Missiles coming, hold on!" Piloting the Hind as close to the ground as he could without crashing, he launched a few flares to throw the missiles' guidance systems off. Should the plan succeed, such low altitude would also have dropped them under whatever radar was tracking them. They weren't that far from Bruce's Castle as it were, and would probably be better off by walking the rest of the distance. Whatever the case, it looked like the Taeunians were making their reply. DeSchaine
The Rangers heard the screams of the missiles as they overshot the chopper. Guessing that the people aboard wouldnt want to risk flying any more, they split into three pairs. One pair stayed at the lighthouse, the sniper and his spotter. Their spot on the light looked right over the ruins of the old castle and the surrounding area. The other two teams swiftly moved off to take up well concealed flanking positions. In an open field east of Ballycastle, eight H-75 helicoptors sat in a line. Seven of them had the rest of the Ranger platoon, with the last one empty to pick up the team already on the island. The weapons systems on the choppers had been modified to carry CS riot gas cannisters. The plan was to take the island with no bloodshed. The Rangers had been issued less-lethal ammunition. Two choppers, one of them the empty, would make for the East Lighthouse to reinforce the troops already there. The other six would disperse to several points on the island to calm the local citizens. All they needed was the green light from the ground team...
Amyante
Though the missiles ended up overshooting the Hind, the flares that had been released posed another problem entirely. Due to the low altitude at which they had been released, the field they were flying over ended up catching fire, and it didn't take long for some of the villagers to arrive on the scene -- though truthfully, the sound of missiles being shot would have alerted them long before the smoke from the fire had. Whatever the case, a tractor was on the scene in a couple of minutes pulling a water tank, and after the arrival of more firemen from other directions the fire was soon under control. Amyante and her men helped where they could, and with all present being considered amateurs at best more hands were always welcome. After the fire had been safely put out, she asked one of the farmers for a ride to the castle, and then turned to her men. - "Right. Ivan and Petrov, you two come with me. The rest of you help Sergei hide the helicopter, i doubt those were the only missiles they had." She got in the tractor with the two soldiers, and held on as the vehicle lurched into motion over the uneven terrain. Though no master strategist herself, she knew enough to know that they wouldn't have bothered alerting her to their presence unless they already had troops in the area, and she wanted to be dug in and waiting for them before they would arrive. Though a trench war wasn't something she was looking forward to, she hoped the fortifications and overlapping fire zones would at least persuade them into opening negotiations. Looking around, she ordered the two soldiers to stay down, thankful for the smudges of dirt and soot on her clothing. With a little luck, she would look like a civilian enough to make it to the castle even if there were enemy forces in her area. DeSchaine
In Dublin, State officials were trying to figure out, through facial recognition software and the DMV database, the names of the people at the rallies on Rathlin. So far they had no luck. One enterprising young clerk had an idea and ran the faces against those taken by the Immigration and Relocation Division. All of a sudden, names started popping up, one right after the other. The clerk was amazed. She quickly looked through the dates of immigration. It was soon readily apparent that all the people had come from the same country around the same time. Hansa. They were all refugees from the now defunct nation of Hansa in Scandinavia. People who came to Taeunas fleeing a nuclear disaster. This information was quickly shoved up the chain to President DeSchaine. "Go way outta that! Are you serious?" he said in disbelief. "After the kindness we show them, they want to take an island away from us?? Bags!" Ok, tell the Rangers to take the measures we discussed. They have the green light." He paused, then shouted "And someone get me Sarah Tintagyl! These were her people originally. If we're gonna deport em, shes taking them back!" A message was sent off to the embassy Down Under which would be dilivered swiftly. Another message was sent to the ranger team, who was watching a tractor puttering toward the ruins. The sniper took a careful bead on the wheel... steady... steady... NOW! He gently squeezed the trigger and watched as the high velocity round passed through the right rear tire, blowing it out and tipping the tractor to that side. Near Ballycastle, the eight H-75's lifted off, and started toward their targets.
Amyante
As the tire blew out, Amyante resisted the urge to grit her teeth. There was a limit to how much could go wrong in one day without lasting effects to her sanity, and she felt she was rapidly approaching that point now. Resisting the urge to swear, she got off the tractor and studied the wheel, and though she was no expert on the subject it was still clear to see the tire hadn't broken open over a sharp rock. She sighed, thinking about the two soldiers, still remaining in cover like she ordered them to. There was little she could do for them at this point, their uniforms would give them away to the sniper before they'd even hopped off the tractor. Still, she had a small idea. It wasn't far to Bruce's Castle now, and if she planned her approach she'd be in the relative safety of the defenders' firing range fairly quick. Nodding to herself, she came up with an improvised plan. - "Right. Sir, if you would please stay here and call someone to fix your tire? The two soldiers i brought along will stay here as well, if that hole is what i think it is they can't help much. As for you two, stay hidden, and watch my back until i get to the castle. With a little luck, they won't risk getting near me before capturing you, which would buy me a little time. Sorry about this guys, stay alive and i'll get you back out again. Promise." Taking a deep breath, she started walking to the ruins. If the soldiers would stay hidden, the sniper wouldn't be able to pick them off, and as long as the civilian stayed near them they wouldn't break out the rockets again either. By the time she got out of their range she'd be well into the range of those at the castle, and the second they'd spot her on foot without her guards they'd know what was wrong even had they not noticed already. Taeunas wasn't on a level where its troops would aim their guns at civilians, and that's what she was betting on, that and them not knowing what the 'Queen of Zargathia' looked like in her soot-stained civvies. Just a few minutes more... It was an effort not to run when she could faintly hear the sound of approaching helicopters. DeSchaine
They could hear the blades beating the air as their support drew nearer. Walsh took a reading with his thermal sensor. Four people on the tractor, though you could only see two. What might that mean? It meant the same as the several heat blobs in the ruins... trouble. He nodded to Quinn and Murray, who raised their grenade launchers. Walsh put the imager down and picked up his own launcher. He looked across the road to Collins, who was coiled, ready to sprint. *CRUMP* *CRU-CRUMP* Three grenades sailed toward the wagon and started to spew their peppery smelling gas. Quickly, all three reloaded and dumped three more on the tractor, the area now covered in riot gas. They slung the launchers, grabbed their shotguns and donned their masks as Collins broke cover and bulldogged the woman into the bushes on the opposite side of the road. He looked to have a good sixty pounds on her, and was wearing his lightweight body armor in all the right places. Walsh, Quinn and Murray slipped right and approached the smoke covered wagon from the side, weapons up and searching for shadows in the smoke. As Collins and the woman tumbled, he pressed his right hand to her face. In it was a piece of tape to cover her mouth. At the very middle of the tape, on the edge, was a cottonball, soaked in Ether. He clamped his hand over her face and held on as she tried to fight.

Near Ballycastle, the eight H-75's lifted off, and started toward their targets. Two bottles of water, still fizzing with Alka-Seltzer, and a bottle of aspirin sat on the desk in front of her as Sarah's head laid in her arms. It was a headache that you only got from not sleeping for a straight two nights and she wanted to go back home. She really really wanted to go back home, so when the inevitable knock was heard, she sighed and lifted her tired eyes to Jess walking through the door with a white paper held in his hands. She looked up and then fell back into her arms. "I'll deal with it later Jess, if its not urgent just set it down for tomorrow." Jess hesitated and looked back down at the paper. "Well, it might be considered urgent Milady, they were our people once." Sarah looked back up quizzically. "What? What do you mean our people? What's going on?" He walked forward and laid the report on her desk and after about a minute or so she reached for the alka-seltzer threw down the water and rested her head back on the desk. "This must be a joke. Refugees from Finland. My God its been what? Six years and now there's an uprising." She leaned back and held her head. "The Taeunasians and now these...what do they call themselves?" "Zargathians, milady." "Zargathians. Fighting like two little children. It doesn't matter where you go, people's fuses for politics are always extremely short. They're all ready fighting and I don't even think the Zargathians have an actual military." "Well President DeSchaine has told us since they're our people they're our responsibility and that we need to take them into the fold of the Commonwealth somehow, some where far from the shores of Taeunas." "Easy for him to say, he doesn't need to provide shelter for a whole group of people." She turned to the map of the Commonwealth hung proudly on the all of her Quarters and nodded. "Well send him a message, tell him that I will come myself to sort out this mess and bring the refugees home. We have more than enough land in Borneo or in the Russian Far East. These people should be fine." "Right away Milady." ------- The next morning Sarah was on a plane to Dublin. She had never been to Taeunas proper, though she considered President DeSchaine to be one of her closer friends, even if they hadn't kept up the correspondence she would like to have. Nevertheless, after the plane landed after an extremely long ride, she was taken by escort to the Government Buildings where then arrived in the hall of the building waiting to speak to the President. Amyante
Amyante couldn't really remember much of what happened after several clangs were heard behind her, except a sudden feeling of panic as she knew that whatever was making the sound had nothing to do with the farmer trying to fix the vehicle. So she did the only logical thing she could do: Make a run for it. Though she had managed to evade getting caught in the canisters, she could tell from the sound behind her that there was someone running after her. Glancing over her shoulder, she saw that he was faster than she was, but the adrenaline pumping through her system kept her running towards the safety of the ruins. She got tackled before coming within visual range however, which in hindsight was for the better as that would have drawn out her mercs for a counterattack. Still, that didn't help her current situation, and as she had tape pressed to her mouth she tried pulling the man's hand away. When that failed, she just resorted to kneeing the man in the crotch area -- hurting her leg on his body armor -- and trying to claw the man in the face with her fingernails. After that, the world went dark as the Ether started getting to her, making her lose consciousness. Edited May 16, 2009 by Amyante
DeSchaine
The two men in the wagon were trussed up and dragged over to where Collins had the woman. She too was tied up. While Collins looked after the three captives, the others set up a hasty perimeter. Two Yellowjacket assault choppers appeared and circled once, just as the sniper team came running up. The full chopper touched down first, the troops springing out of it and setting up security. The second chopper touched down nearer the group already on the ground and the side door flung open. "Let's go!" yelled the crew chief. The six soldiers scrambled toward the open door, fairly throwing their cpatives in before jumping in themselves. The door slammed shut as the security team fell back and boarded their own chopper and both lifted of, turning south for the mainland. In other parts of the island, six more choppers landed, dropping off three more squads of troops. These soldiers were tasked with reasserting control over the island. More waited to be airlifted onto the island from outside of Ballycastle. Back on the mainland, the prisoners would be transfered to MP's and escorted to Dublin like guests, rather than prisoners. ----- In Dublin, President DeSchaine relaxed before a faux fireplace as he read a file folder. There came a light rap at the door. "Yes, Sean, what is it?" he said without looking up. "Lady Tintagyl, sir. Shes just down the hall." DeSchaine smiled like the cat that had just ate a fine feathered meal. "By all means, Sean, show her in." He snapped the blue folder shut, laying it on the table next to his chair. He gazed intently into the fake flames. Surely, thsi would be an interesting conversation. So much had happened, and most of that was contained in the folder currently being drummed on by his fingers.
Zarfef
OOC: I've also contacted DeSchaine, and if this post seems to be wrong to him in RP terms, I'm willing to edit it even to being out of existence. As Amyante fell victim to the guards and the military personnel from Taeunas landed on the small island, another more sinister force arose from it's own shadows. (Having been launched a few hours earlier after hearing of the event). Two black un-marked propeller driven craft with what appeared to be anti-air missile armaments hugged the island bringing to jolt to any forces nearby. Following these were three Cobra-Era attack helicopters which rose from their near ocean level flight path (avoiding radar detection via 180 phase cancellation) which reared themselves near the missile explosion location... They were all armed and placed the sights on the forces around the area of the downed helicopter but did not open fire... the middle one lowered it's location and one Ziggy jumped from the plane with his hands in the air with a troop of armed Aether Henchmen at his back. Ziggy: We're not here to fight. We just want the leader of this rebellion. I believe her name is Amyante? OOC: By the way, I know from the above post that I'm too late, but my own characters don't know that. I am also far out gunned in terms of tech and weapons with regards to my soldiers. Amyante
OOC: I don't mind myself, but considering i ate two missiles in a five mile flight i don't think those helicopters are going to last long. Especially since DeSchaine has six of them, and likely several gunboats in the area as well XD Also, just to be clear on it, the orders Amy gave to the soldiers guarding the ruins is to dig in and fortify. They have enough supplies for a month, and since it's a national monument i doubt they'll get mortared out. They also have mortars and a limited number of TOW missiles and MANPADS, as well as guns of several calibers, so as long as you stay out of range you should be fine. IC: When Amyante awoke, she found herself in a room. This itself surprised her a bit as she had expected a prison cell, but she wasn't going to complain about the lack of bars in front of the window. She tried getting up, but had to sit down again as she was still feeling the aftereffects of the ether a little, but aftre a minute or so she found she had the strength to walk around again. Feeling that that was probably the best way to get the remains of whatever they had knocked her out with out of her system, she started pacing up and down the room before looking outside. She knew she wasn't on Rathlin anymore, and the sight of the Taeunian flag in the courtyard confirmed her suspicions that the troops that had abducted her were in fact the President's men. Taking a deep breath, she knew it would not matter much. Though an email or a phone call would have been a nicer way of inviting her, she had taken into account that DeSchaine wouldn't have been too pleased with her at the moment of her declaration, and found herself wondering just how much it had mattered when he mad the call to send in his military. She went to the bathroom to wash her face, and at least maintain a semblance of being presentable despite the stains of grass, soot and dirt that had pretty much ruined her clothing. For a moment, she considered removing her clothes to see if she could get the stains out, but decided against it just in case the room was being monitored. If the tables were turned, she knew she would have, anyway. She would have to make due with what she had to work with, and set about trying to clean up as best she could for her meeting with President DeSchaine later on. While there was a chance she would be talking to an interrogator instead, she didn't think that likely considering the room she had woken up in. As she started to consider her options in different scenarios, already picking her words in what to say, she just hoped she would have the chance to explain why she had done it... Sarah Tintagyl
In Dublin, President DeSchaine relaxed before a faux fireplace as he read a file folder. There came a light rap at the door."Yes, Sean, what is it?" he said without looking up. The aide walked out of the President's quarters and after introducing himself to her escorted Sarah into the room. Sarah found it extremely quaint, cozy, and welcoming. A fake fireplace was situated on a wall aside from to large chairs, with a table and ashtray in the middle, definitely a man's office, no doubt about that. A large oak desk sat on the right of the room, bordered by the Taeunasian flag and great windows that looked down onto the city of Dublin. The sun shining through the windows was slightly cut back by the thick green drapes, but there was an enjoyable dimness to the room as well as the smell of cigar smoke that though Sarah was not extremely fond of, they surely had been expensive cigars and it was a fitting smell to the room. Seeing DeSchaine in the chair she walked over closer before he rose up to greet her. She smiled and extended her hands to his. "Mr. President. Christos, its a pleasure to see you again. It feels likes its been forever since we've seen each other. How are things? And what is going on with this Hanseatic rebellion in your country?"
