Californian
Stromfjord, OSEA: The riots have entered their third day in the capital of the Osea Province. Once part of the Osean Federation, this province and many of its citizens still retain the once prominent communist sentiments. This directly conflicts with the passage of the recent Freedom and Liberty Act which has effectively criminalized communism in the province and nation. Over 8,000 people protested at the steps of the Capitol building, shouting anti-FRG and pro-Marxism chants. The crowd burned at least three dummies representing the Forseti and Prime Minister and midway through the day became increasingly aggressive. Improvised molotov cocktails and rocked were thrown at buildings, with dozens of business looted. In addition, over 50 cars have been destroyed by the mob. The Osea Provincial Guard has been called in to assist the police handling the riots. So far 32 protesters have been arrested with various charges of Disturbance of the Peace, Inciting Communism, Assault on a Peace Officer, Burglary, and Vandalism. Police have began using tear gas and have warned they will use rubber bullets if necessary. They also recommend citizens stay indoors for the next week and avoid going downtown. Osean Senatus representative Pelosi Nancydottir has blasted the recent Act, declaring it "oppressive and illegal," and mentioning that it "[is] a gross abuse of federal power." "The citizens of this nation have the right to follow any ideology they choose. I decry the use of violence in these protests, however I encourage all Oseans to nonviolently protest the government." The other Osean representatives agreed with Mrs. Nancydottir and in a recent poll 87% of Oseans disapproved of recent Senatus actions. Californian
OOC: OOC comments are always welcome. IC: Freedom and Liberty Act Falters In a rare show of power, the Superior Circuit Court of Appellate Appeals (SCCAA), commonly referred to as the High Court, threatened to declare the recently passed Freedom and Liberty Act unconstitutional, due to its "violation of personal rights specifically guaranteed in the Constitution." The bill has been the subject of recent controversy, including the daily riots in the Osean province for the past 27 days. So far, 34 have been killed including 3 police officers and over 700 citizens have been arrested. In response, the Senatus has renamed the act the Communist Containment Act and modified it. Federal Republic of Grøenlandia Resolution 123.6A Communist Containment Act WHEREAS Communism, including but not limited to, its teachings, ideology, and spread is KNOWN to interfere and disrupt normal government activities and inner workings and to be harmful to all forms of society, RESOLVED on the day of our Lord, November 7th, 2009, Communism is hereby banned from the Federal Republic of Grøenlandia and all its territories EXCEPT the province of Osea. RESOLVED all Communist based political parties are to be immediately disbanded and banned from future elections EXCEPT any party that is based and operates solely in the Osea Province. RESOLVED all persons convicted of practicing Communism or aiding its spread shall be given a mandatory prison sentence EXCEPT in the Osea Province. RESOLVED the propaganda work "Communist Manifesto" and all related literature is hereby banned from the FRG EXCEPT in the Osea Province. RESOLVED the Ministry of Heritage and Culture and Ministry of the Homeland shall ensure all proper laws and guidelines concerning the Communist ban are carried out to the fullest extent authorized by the Senatus and Constitution. RESOLVED that communist parties cannot control more than 49% of all Osea Province seats in the Senatus. JEDCJT
A 500 man scouting party has been sent to the Revillagigedo Islands. When the arrived they found the islands void of any human activities and promptly raised an FRG flag, declaring the islands a territory of the FRG. OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF STATE "To our understanding, the Revillagigedo Islands is within North America, right off the coast of the Tahoe Republic and the Amerikansches Reich. The takeover of the Revillagigedo Islands by the FRG is essentially foreign expansionism and violates both the O’Deaghaidh Doctrine and the Articles of American Sovereignty and Self Determination (AASSD), which is not tolerated. To avoid potential conflict, we recommend you leave the islands right now."
Californian
"Greenland is considered part of North America therefore I fail to see how this is considered foreign expansionism," a senior FRG official was quoted as saying in response to previous New England accusations. Californian
It's hardly expanding, they are only a small group of islands with no natural resources. We may be a in civil war, but sending a small delegation to the islands will hardly affect matters.
Californian
Foreign Affairs Update The FRG has recently decided to review all of its treaties and obligations. After much debate and thought, we have decided to withdraw from the Eurasian Union. We are still on good terms with all EU members however we will be focusing more internally and hope to increase our relationship with fellow CAN members. We respect the leaving period and will still hold any obligations for the following treaties until the specified amount of time has expired: Eurasian Union (MDP)- 48 Hours FRG - Deutschland MDP - 72 Hours FRG - Dalmatia MDoAP - 48 Hours The following treaties and obligations are still in effect: FRG - France NAP FRG - Cochin NAP FRG - Caucasia MDoAP CAN - MDP (OOC: If I have any other treaties with someone let me know.) Once again, we'd like to reiterate our stance on the EU. We will continue to enjoy good relations and support the goals they are trying to accomplish. Finally, a Travel & Trade Advisory Warning has been placed on the Axis (HRE, Phoenix Empire, and Belorussia). The little travel with these countries has been halted until further notice. Californian
Nuclear Breakthrough Scientists from the National Board of Nuclear Technology recently unveiled their latest advancement. Although only a portion of FRG power is supplied from nuclear energy, the government and citizens have been pushing for more nuclear energy as it is safe, clean, and reliable. As a result from increased funding provided by the government, the Board has recently completed the first working Hyperion Power Mk.III Module Nuclear Reactor. Essentially a nuclear battery, this 1.5m wide by 2m tall mini reactor provides about 25 MWe. It lasts for 7-10 years before being refueled and does not use water as a coolant, making it even safer. In addition, it has no greenhouse emissions, possibly making it one of the most environmentally friendly power sources in our nation. Scientists from across the country have praised this invention, declaring it a "revolutionary piece of technology." Plans are being made to produce this item starting in the next few months and using it to power residential and industrial neighborhoods and even military applications such as naval vessels. Californian
"If only we had nukes. Please stop reminding us we don't have any, it makes us sad." Internal Shenaniganry and the Like Hydroponics Towers - These "green towers" as they're called are popping up on the outskirts of towns to make the FRG more self-reliant and self-sustainable. They are able to grow many of the fruits and vegetables needed including wheat, oats, rice, soy beans, potatoes, cabbage, peas, tomatoes, cauliflowers, and cucumbers. They use very little water which the FRG has plenty of. Snow often will get stuck on the building, however due to the heat it generates the snow dissipates and is quickly channeled into the tower, purified and then recycled for use. Yak farming - Surprisingly, yak farming is a large industry in the FRG. The beasts excel in the cold and are called the "cattle of the Arctic." Especially in Nordur Ciudadela, much of the land is dedicated to raising yak. Their milk provides milk, cheese, and butter; their meat and tongue are delicious; the dung is used for heating; the excess hair and down is used for pillows and insulation; the hooves are ground down for glue; the sinew is used for thread; and the hide is turned into moccasins. Farmers are provided with government subsidies to keep prices (especially milk) competitive. Hydropower - Hydropower has a lot of potential in Greenland. The FRG estimates at least 30% of all power could be generated through hydropower. As such, the National Board on Renewable Energy and Ministry of Energy have have agreed to being construction of 15 hydropower plants to augment the existing three. Californian
CARS BANNED After months of rumors, the government has finally passed a new law officially banning automobiles in the FRG. Cars are not that common, snowmobiles more the norm, and opinions were mixed. Most supported this measure claiming it helped the environment however critics claimed it was just an another unnecessary intrusion on citizen's lives. Most existing roads in cities are to be torn out and replaced with mass transit instead. There are no roads outside of cities so in actuality this will not have much of an effect. One road lane will be kept on each block and permitted vehicles include snow plows, trucks, government vehicles, and emergency vehicles. Snowmobiles are not affected by this law. This ambulance is a permitted vehicle. It can switch from wheel to treads in less than an hour if the roads have not been plowed and vice versa. OOC: I'm switching my Interstate to this instead IC: Instead of having roads which would often be snow covered for a good portion of the year, construction has been ongoing for the new government owned high-speed train named GreenTram. It connects major cities and it's major advantage to air flight is it's affordable rates. In addition to numerous snow plows on the tracks, which are themselves salted often, each train is equipped with plows that can remove most snowbanks that may have formed. Map of projected GreenTram routes. Note: Some routes lead into the Eggman Empire. Tide Power In addition for the recent push for hydroelectric power, the National Board on Renewable Energy has also recommended the harvesting of tidal power. The often forgotten renewable power can actually provide a large amount of energy and is perfect for a nation like FRG with miles of coastline. The government, specifically the Ministry of Energy, has developed the EvoPod, capable of turning tides into energy. This contraption is already being manufactured and is expected to be put into service in the next year. 500 are being made, however the amount is expected to increase due to the government's desire to increase tidal energy to 10% of the nation's total power output. Each machine is automated however the Office of Tidal Energy Management in the Ministry of Energy has been created to oversee these EvoPods. The Office will be equipped with 20 light vessels and 4 helicopters capable of securing any EvoPods that become damaged. Expected Percent of Energy to Overall FRG Energy Needs (per year) Nuclear Energy - 50% Tidal Power - 10% Hydropower - 35% Wind Energy - 4% *Solar Energy - 1% *All structures in Monaco, La Palma, and Atyrau are required to have solar panels on their roofs. Military Base Completion The new Daneborg Military Base has finished construction on Northern FRG. Although dozens of miles from any town, it is forbidden to enter any land or airspace surrounding the base.
Californian
**Private** 0900 Hours The scientists scurried away to the command center, a small reinforced building. Inside, people were watching their computer and monitors, watching the last of the base personnel vacate the building housing the experiment. When everyone had left, a red light switched to green. "Sir, we are ready to begin the test on your mark." "Start the countdown." Suddenly the loudspeakers blared a shrill alarm throughout the base and an indifferent voice began counting down. "Five." "Four." The men who were watching from carefully placed outside installations put on their goggles. "Three." "Two." Some of the scientists pressed some buttons and the object at the center of everyone's attention came to life. "One." The commander at the base pressed the button in front of him. BOOOOOOM. A flash of light gave way to the wreckage of what appeared to be a small explosion. Fire was now running rampant over the remains of the 16MJ experimental railgun and the center was surprisingly quiet, all of the people glued to the screens. "Well dammit, someone give me an explanation," the commander yelled. "Sir, it looks like it overheated. There was a *slight* chance of that happening," a brave technician answered. "Great, well let's make sure that doesn't happen anymore. **Public** An explosion attracted a large amount of attention today in the sparsely populated villages surrounding the Daneborg Military Base earlier this morning. This base has been inert for months and the government had given no comment on it until this afternoon. Actual photograph of site The government stated "We are pleased to announce that our controlled detonation was a complete success. We were working on a new ordinance and we decided to use that old warehouse for testing. We are proud to say everything worked as planned and we hope to see further progress on these munitions. Californian
MILITARY ANNOUNCEMENTS GRG Recruiting stations have been running overtime to handle the recent flood of volunteer applicants. The Reserve forces recently announced they were adding an additional 40,000 soldiers. This figure has almost been met and training is expected to begin shortly, with the new troops being incorporated into the GRG in the next year. GNG Five new vessels were christened today, including three aircraft carriers, a frigate, and a cruiser. This addition had long been expected and the Comodore of Naval Operations Johnathon H. Willaby stated, "We are now better able to deal with any global threat. Currently more ships are being built and when those are completed we will have a sizable fleet capable of making any enemy think twice." GAG Fifteen new squadrons of planes have been commissioned today, increasing the number of squadrons from 65 to 80. The planes have been distributed throughout bases in the nation. ooc: updated my factbook as a result of an infra jump.
Californian
**PUBLIC** We have successfully tested a full scale railgun. With this success the FRG military is considering adding railguns to its navy and artillery. No decisions have been made yet and more tests are still to be performed. **PRIVATE** "That's right, open it up." The two men with crowbars slowly pressed against the metal door that had recently been unlocked with a 10 digit combination by their commanding officer. After a minute of full exertion, the unused door slowly creaked open. One of the men turned on the light switch and suddenly the room was illuminated. Inside were rows and rows of cabinets with papers of all kind and what appeared to be intricate blueprints and designs. Situated in the middle of the room was a dusty supercomputer, cold and dead. "All right boys, gather this data and start sending it to Caucasia. They want it pronto," the intelligence officer barked before turning the computer on. With a buzz and whir it slowly came to life and the knowledge of the former Greater German Empire was online. For the next few hours, high amounts of encrypted packets were being sent to Caucasia through the computer and a transport plane was loaded with all the documents and took off for the Caucasian capital. It would arrive shortly. Included in the plane was a message from Forseti Ty. James, I have decided to hand over complete control of Atyrau and La Palma to you. We would still like to use our military bases there and I hope that can be arranged. This will be public knowledge as soon as you confirm the transaction. As for Arkhangelsk, we are going to formally hand control over to you. No need for us to continue to administer it, it's better fitting for your hands. Words of advice: Taunt Slavorussia with it. With the transfer of Arkhangelsk we expect full unlimited access to the city, port, and our military base there at all times.
