It was Good Friday, and thousands flocked to the Basilica of St. John the Apostle. The mass would be presided over by His Eminence Cardinal Michael J. Gormley. The altar, normally beautifully decorated with gloths and candlesticks, lay bare, and was moved to the side of the cathedral. During the Passion reading from the Holy Gospel according to John, many wept as the congregation recalled the Passion of the Christ.

After the Homily, a large, grand crucifix was revealed at the altar area, and as it was venerated, many sobbed as they came up to kiss the crucifix. A solemn Our Father was said, communion was given, and everyone departed in solemn silence. WHen they passed the Pieta in front of the Royal Palace, they noticed that Mary was crying...
