We have reason to believe that large natural gas bubbles in the area, being freed by tectonic movement of the Earth's crust could dislodge them, creating a deadly area of poisonous and highly flammable air that could be detrimental to both wildlife and humans. We close these areas off first to make sure the threat is valid, we don't want to get anyone in a scare before necessary. As for your uninformed ideas as to the nature of these hazards:

Tectonic plates move, and water is heavy. The bubbles seen are believed to have been created ages ago, originating near the plate boundary Mohns Ridge. When the gas was deposited, there, it was under too much water to push up, and rather was compressed, after years of compression, the bubbles have gotten too big.

If you wish to take the risk, feel free, just make sure your loved ones know you are willing to kill yourself over a few hours worth of time.

Reorganization of Provinces

As part of sweeping reforms by congress, the provinces withing ADI have been reorganized to maintain efficiency and organization within the Federation. As of now, the nation shall be split into five states, Troms, Finnmark, Murmansk, Svlalbard, and Franz Josef Land. Each state is entitled to its own capitol, but the National capitol has been declared Southport, the once southern most city of the nation. The Solovetsky Islands will be kept as a municipality, outside of any state but controlled by the government, and Tangier will be held as a semi autonomous economic zone. Along with the provincial reorganization, Senate has passed the "National Defense Act", whereby construction shall begin on permanent defenses across the nation to endure its safety in the possibility of war. Surprisingly to the senate, citizens are hailing this act as a great step forward towards their protection.

-Emergency fortifications are being built throughout the North Moroccan Territories to make sure there can be no invasion

-At this time, they mostly consist of sandbags, cement blocks, and improvised gun placements

-Equipment is being flown down to build more permanent defenses, such as pillboxes, bunkers and guns

-Shore defenses are being upgraded with increased armor to make them legitimately "Combat worthy"

-Naval guns are being cleaned out to be in firing condition, as they have been sitting unused for several months

-The soldiers in the territory are being prepared for combat

-Defenses on the home front are being further completed

-With extra time, more permanent additions to the defenses have been made on the Nordheim and Norsvea borders

---It is presumed that the Nords are doing the same, little intel has been gathered to support this, with the exception of some pictures taken by bombers, which provided fuzzy images of what appear to be humans moving, but it is still inconclusive

-"Blue" Teams have been moved out towards the borders to be prepared for a charge on enemies if needed

OOC: Blue is essentially code for Mountain/arctic troops in ADI. They have much lighter ( as in color) uniforms, more water resistant gear, thicker coats, and infrared imaging equipment to pick out subtle changes in reflected light and heat.

The doors to the main Research and development laboratories burst open, to reveal Baggs, in his normal suit, and holding a clipboard.

"Baggs, pleasure to see you, but why are you here," Lahye said from down the hall in his office.

"Surprise inspection, I expect to be wooed, and awed," Baggs said back in a sarcastic tone, "I need to sign off on your new projects for the quarter for my report to the stockholders."

"Well then, let's see what we have around."

Lahye directed Baggs in the direction of the military research wing, and took a left turn to the Armor Technologies.

"Here we are testing some new armor for infantry coats. It uses dragon-skin technology, along with heat resistant gels and fireproof fabrics to make a bullet proof, fire proof coating. It's effective agaisnt flame throwers, shrapnel, small arms, and some light explosives," Lahye said excitedly.

"Sounds good. Keep it going, get it on our men ASAP."

"Alrighty. Next we have a new helmet. What makes it special is use of engineering grade diamond as a supporting structure that is capable of stopping nearly any projectile, while still being very light."

"Expense?"

"That is the main issue with testing right now. The graphite needed to form the diamond, along with the equipment to compress it is expensive, averaging out at 2000$ per helmet."

Baggs paused for a moment as he watched the test group fire a machine gun directly at the helmet, emptying an entire clip without damaging the water balloon inside. "Pull most funding, but keep it on track. Black ops could use a nigh invincible helmet."

"Here we have something fun. Bio-Mechanical Engineering has been working on their 'usual' project, and it has finally generated some results. A chess playing computer that can manipulate the pieces through actual movement."

Lahye held out his arm to the glass viewing window where a man and a large robotic arm were placed across from each other at a small card table. The man slowly moved a pawn forward. The robot twitched a bit, and then lowered it's own hand to slowly lift a piece.

It paused for another moment, before throwing the piece at the mans head, twitching violently, and lighting on fire.

Lahye tried to stifle a laugh before saying, "As usual, it isn't going very well."

"No, no it isn't. The arm looked nice though."

"The index finger and thumb are the only fingers that work, and even they require some big computation to run."

"Well then. They get no bonus funding, keep them at the meager funds they get now."

"Alright. Now, I assume you have goggles on under the Bag."

"Of course, why?"

"Heat ray."

"Why do I think this will end badly."

"Don't know," Lahye muttered as he pushed open the door and walked over to a small patch of grass, and the large gun upon it, "So, we built this a few weeks ago. It is not at 100% quite yet, but we have some pretty promising results so far."

"Yes, well, fire it up."

"Will do," Lahye responded, as he turned a knob on his control panel, and flicked a switch. Immediately, the machine began to hum loudly, getting ever softer until it became equal to the buzz of a bee's wings. Baggs looked purplexed for a moment, and then stuck out his hand in front of the "ray".

"Hm, warm."

"Yes, it's pretty slow to create enough heat."

"Cut funding. Having a giant heat ray is bad PR. Makes us look evil, and for now, we need to keep that secret."

"Yes sir..."

OOC: Felt like giving a taste of what ADI is doing in R&D. Most of this stuff won't ever be used in combat, and if it is, I'll RP it a bit more. Speaking of more, I'll do another post later tonight :lol:

"Well," Lahye said with a tone of excitement, "This is one of our most promising new devices, and it's pretty fun."

"Lahye," Baggs muttered back, "Our definitions of fun are often very different."

"Well then, this is just a show then," Lahye said as he typed in a security code and stepped into a large, high security concrete lined testing area and gestured towards two towers in the center.

"These are sonic defense towers. They produce either very high, or very low frequency sound waves, focused in between the two do damage to anything that enters their fields. They are capable of frequencies between six hertz, and 40 kilohertz. At their lower frequencies, they cause irritation of flesh, increased body heat, and occasionally vomiting and uncontrolled bowel movement. The low frequencies can pass through tanks and armored cars, and, for a mobile model, through cement walls. At their high frequencies... well, let me show you."

Lahye pulled out a cell phone and told the operators a long string of frequencies and numbers, and pulled out a dummy from a refrigerator nearby.

"This dummy is made of a ballistics medium the same density as human flesh. Within it are replica human bones, porcine organs, artificial veins, a clockwork pun serving as a heart and lungs, and artificial skin from burn wards. It's in a pretty standard military uniform, some standard gear, no explosives or guns for safety purposes, of course. We'll roll this in or a remote platform and you'll see the show of a lifetime."

"Well, you've piqued my interest, let's see."

Lahye smiled as he flicked the switch sending the dummy down towards the towers, and instantly as it passed through, the flesh began to vibrate.

"You see, thanks to the the Bernoulli Effect, the 'person' is trapped within the fields as they are being vibrated," Lahye said, still staring at the reaction.

After only a few seconds, the body began to smoke and rip apart. A loud clang shot out from the towers as a metal chunk of the uniform shot off. In less than two minutes, the uniform had torn to pieces, and the body within it turned into little more than chunks of bone, heaps of gore, and red mist in the air.

"That was terrifying..." Baggs muttered, "When can you put them all along the border?"

"We can't. Parts are too expensive and too labor intensive to build in bulk. Especially when you factor in that the devices have an effective range of only twenty meters or so."

"Well, raise funding to find a cheaper alternative, but cut the workers on the project."

"Yessir."

"Anything else worth showing?"

"Nope, not really. We've got a stealth bomber in development, a prototype anti satellite weapon, artificial meat, some changes to the attack sphere design, but that's pretty much it."

With the chance of war in Europe once again creeping higher, ADI is once again raising alerts (Note, we have yet to lower alert levels, and the state of alert we are at now is calculated to equal Defcon: -2).

Construction Begins on New Southport Banking Quarter

With the state of ADI's internal economy run down from the massive infrastructure repairs in Svalbard and Murmansk, the congress has recently passed a bill to begin construction and creation of a dedicated Southport Banking quarter to manage national finances, and release company stock for sale. The traditional groundbreaking ceremony, or in this case, water breaking as the Mayor of Soutport released the crane to drop the first support into place) occurred today, and was immediately followed by a start of official construction.

Site security is being kept high to ensure any attempts by terrorists or enemies to damage the structure are foiled before any damage can occur. The frenzy of construction is expected to last for three to four months, at which point the main pad should be build and ready for actual building construction.

Agricultural Surplus Program Posing Viability for Power Generation

As the ASP system throughout the nation grows more common and advanced, many prominent scientists, such as Professor Zeb Söderberg, believe that the methane gas emitted by the stations could be used in both power plants, and as fuel for cars. "You see," The professor muses, "This methane gas is very potent as a fuel. Right now, we already practice it's use for heating and cooking in homes, but I think that by taking excess from the system, with something as simple as a gas pipeline to power plants and filling stations, we can lower dependence on oil substantially. Vehicles such as this one run just as fast as those with gasoline, but emit much less carbon dioxide, meaning that we also cause less harm on the environment."

The professor went on to explain that the excess energy could also be routed to power the machines used to dig and cap the ASPs.

Small Solid Methane Clathrate Burst

Contrary to it's name, in an event that could have massive repercussions on a global level, an ROV that has been tasked to search for highly pressurized gasses deep below the Ocean Surface has burst exactly what it came to find, a Solid Methane Clathrate. These Clathrates are formed when Methane under immense pressure under water, form a solid. When disrupted, either by heat, or movement, they can release thousands of kilograms of gas into the atmosphere. Though this one was estimated to be roughly 30 kilograms worth of gas by its size, the event has given validity to the April 11 Closure of some ADI waters. Similar ROVs left their search areas to clear the Methane by disrupting it, and forcing it to release it's gas into large bags, and later into pressurized tanks. With that, the closure is officially lifted to the "many" people who rely on that waterway.

Official peace talks are underway now, and the government has ensured everyone that regardless of their outcome, life will be back to normal soon. For the first time in the history of the nation, the Defcon is making a step in the right direction, and Baggs Q. Headignton, Esq. announced that it would now be but at three. Already some militarized areas are being disassembled, and mine fields deactivated. In a speech, Baggs stated that "Today is a new day for ADI and Europe. Though changes may come in the near future, I can assure you, they will be for a better, safer Europe!"

This week we are looking into some light snow or rain on the back of the recent warm front that passed through. Early forecasts show that it will not drop below 25 degrees throughout the period.

Nation Gears Up for Elections

Following the preordained time from congress upon their first meeting, it is coming to be time for ADI's first elections. Nationwide, rallies have started in support of candidates, and tanks to this being the first election of it's kind in the nation, there have been a wide number of interesting parties springing up. Already, the two dominant parties are:

-The Norwegian Conservative party, a cultural conservative group, believing in preservation of Norwegian Culture, personal responsibility for ones actions, and supply-side economics

-The ADI Fabian Society, a group dedicated to the gradual shift to socialist ideas without revolution

But the parties running for both voices in congress and place as president do not stop there. Among the parties registering right now are:

-The ADI Fascist Party

-The Nordland Reformist Party

-The Social Noocratic party (Many of whom are convicted felons and racists, trying to purge the world of those of an "un-pure" mind)

-The Pants for Great Justice Society (On the platform that laws need to be changed to make nudity illegal except in the home)

-The Musical Anarchist Party (Gaining support through catchy show-tunes)

-The Nationalist Socialist Libertarian Green Party

-The ADI Utopian Party

-The F*** Nature Party (Primarily made of loggers and oil drill workers)

-The Environmental Conservative party (And environmentalist/ Religious fundamentalist party)

And many, many more.

Already, smaller parties have struggled to support a presidential candidate, but so far, none have dropped out of looking for a senate seat.

Project Comet Doom Log: Dr. Gerhard Schroder

Day one:

We received the brains today, and already have begun the process of cleaning and preparing then for the stasis chambers. Already the signs are pointing to excellent samples, the oldest one we received was fifteen hours old. All subjects are between ages 16-29, ensuing good balance. The stasis pods, which we earlier tested on rodents, contain oxygen enriched perfluorocarbons, and after our electric stimuli reanimate the flesh, pumps will move the solutions through the tissue, maintaining it's life until the latter parts of the experiment.

Once the brains adjust to their new state, and prove to be actually alive within their pods, we will begin phase two.

(Okay, I did not lie about the sinister thing, it doesn't sound like it now, but this isn't nearly as evil as it sounds. Also, fun fact, this is all real science, I'm just merging it all together)

Parties Put Forth their Candidates for Prime Minister

The Norwegian Conservative party has put forth Kjell Magne Bondevik as their candidate. He is a Lutheran minister who has done much work with his community, and believes in supporting family values. He has stated that he has no wish to interfere with the economy, but rather take on new public works projects to maintain the Norwegian culture in the nation.

The ADI Fabian Society has put forth Jens Stoltenberg as their candidate. He has worked tightly with the board Energy and Trade, which has revitalized the nation's power sources, and made a large step towards lower greenhouse gas emissions. Stoltenberg has stated that, if elected, he will move to have the company and nation of ADI separated.

The ADI Fascist Party has put forth Russian, Gennadiy Seleznyov. The man has stated that he himself is much more moderate than many members of his party, but still believes in strong control by the government over the people, and preservation of the nation's unity.

The Musical Anarchist Party has put forth no candidate, as it would be contrary to their belief that that government should be dissolved.

The ADI Utopian Party has put forth Charles Fourier as their candidate. He states that he wishes to remove unnecessary torment and hatred from the nation to create universal equality and peace. He does not wish to uproot families, but if necessary, says that his police agents could help to enforce the peace. (He's not doing what he says, it's all a lie)

No other party has put forth a candidate, and the deadline is June 30th. Elections will begin then, and last until July First.

Day 15:

Progress is steady, if not as fast as expected. Three of the subjects have failed for one reason or another. After two days, subject 14, during it's daily responsivity scans yielded zero, indicating that it had officially died. Subject 9 was terminated after several veins disconnected and it's neuron count dropped substantially. Subject three was terminated earlier this morning when it was transferred to a new tube, and was shaken inadvertently which caused what would be a concussion were it truly alive. Subject one was successfully connected to it's circuit earlier today, and although still not any more responsive than it was, is showing some ability to fire it's neurons, and function. We believe it will take another month before the subject "learns" how to manipulate it's circuits, but we are still hopeful. Subjects two and four are going to be connected tomorrow.

Polls Open to Elect Congress and Prime Minister

Today begins the first democratic elections in the Nation. This historic event is being lead with much fanfare, especially with the likelihood that the controversial company rule may end. Early polls show a large favor for the Fabian candidate Jens Stoltenberg, but his party has already showed a slight dip in support for congress. All parties are being represented in congress, but only four have put forth candidates for Prime Minister.

Day 20:

All surviving subjects have been placed in their terminals. Subject two is showing the best progress as of yet. It has increased responsivity tenfold, and is reacting well to it's terminals and has already showed a return of basic cognitive ability when the robotic arm is attached. Subject 19, on the other had, suffered a short, and it's fluid ignited. The subject was cut off from oxygen, and hence died. All other subjects are going at the expected pace.

Amid much fanfare and excitement, Jens Stoltenberg stood in front of the masses that had grown overnight in Southport, and waved, a smile just pulling across his lips.

Hello everyone! As you may know, my name is Jens Stoltenberg. You have spoken, and I have been elected as your new prime minister.

This, as you all know, has been the first democratic election in our young nation. I have been criticized for my promises and policies. That I am a 'Dirty Communist,' and that I want to tear the country apart. I must now say, that that is not true. I love this nation, and no matter how much I disagree with some of it's policies, I will stand by it. The nation has been held back, though. Held back by the corporation that founded it, and regardless of the thanks we have to them, they must have their control removed. When we remove them, when we remove the policies they laid down to increase profit and efficiency of sales. I intend, in the coming weeks, to start re-writing the constitution to make the states bound by more than a congress. I intend to let the corporation down, and replace them with a real government. I'm not going to destroy the corporation all together though. We have all been employees for a good while, and we can't all be let off that fast. Soon, we will have an influx of new companies to work here, and we can finally stop the cruel shifts of employment and loose the policy that a layoff is a deportation. ADI is more than a company, it is a nation, and it should be treated as such. We are Norwegians, not ADIans. We will be united as one, the Saami, the Norwegians, the Russians and the Italians. We will all be one people. As of this moment, we are no longer ADI, but we are Norway!

The crowd burst into cheer as Norwegian flags were pulled up the flagpoles.

Stoltenberg lifted his arms into the air and let a cheer out himself as he stepped away from his podium and walked away from the microphone.
