The Second Awakening

***Novaya Ulanbataar***

As MLA Forces entered Novaya Ulanbataar they were repeatedly hit by snipers, and occasional anti-armor missiles fired by the remaining units of the military. Military snipers had hidden themselves in alleyways, in abandoned buildings, in shrubbery and just outside the town. The troops in the region hardly ever attacked directly, and resorted to sporadic anti-tank fire.

The MLA’s air force was in for an unpleasant surprise as it approached Novaya Ulanbataar. The Vaulian military waited until the MiGs were well in range before they activated the network of S-400s based on the other side of Lake Baikal. In mere seconds the sky was ablaze with heavy anti-aircraft fire.

Seconds after receiving the signal from Command 5 of the MiG 35s change direction heading for Novaya Ulanbataar, but remaining at a high enough altitude to be out of range of enemy MANPADs. Instead of flying over the city itself, the fighters stayed just outside of the range of Vaule’s S-400s to dispatch any remaining MiG 21s that had miraculously managed to survive the AA onslaught.

On the ground, as MLA forces moved through pro-Vaulian enclaves, they would be greeted with Molotov firebombs, rocks and occasionally gunfire. As soon as the AA fire dies down, 10 of the Mi-24 attack helicopters leave the South Faron airbase heading toward Novaya Ulanbataar. Their orders were simple: target any MLA ground units inside or outside of the city, and bomb them continuously and relentlessly.

Of the 1000 soldiers remaining in Novaya Ulanbataar, almost 132 were killed in fighting, while the remaining units had fanned out taking up sniper and anti-tank positions. Clearly outnumbered, they focused on simply being a major annoyance to their enemies until the Mi-24s arrived. Once the Mi-24s began their attacks, the units would regroup and attack with air cover from both the 5 MiG 35s and the 10 Mi-24s.

Facing little resistance in the operations to take Chita, the military took the town and the surrounding area with air support from attack helicopters. The bombing area was expanded as more military units moved into the Chita corridor. 3000 soldiers, covered by 3 Su 35s and 2 MiG 35s pushed south-west from the Chita corridor (orange area) to open up another area of combat (dark blue). Periodic fire from the VA-774s coincided with their advance.

Regular programming is interrupted for a speech by HRH Princess Azleya, Commander of the Imperial Guard Forces in Outer Mongolia.

-Princess Azleya

"Citizens of Vaule,

At this unfortunate hour, the very foundations of our existence as a nation, and the principles of our democratic nation are under attack. These terrorists who paint themselves as freedom fighters, and who paint themselves as representing the people of the region are in the midst of one of the largest insurrections this nation has ever faced. In the course of their so-called revolution, more than 900 of our soldiers have lost their lives in defense of this land, and our territorial integrity. Let us show that their sacrifice was not in vain. Let us show that the sacrifice of those 300 students....mere children, who lost their lives because of these terrorists, was not in vain. There is a long battle ahead, but I am confident that we shall persevere.

To the terrorists who so brazenly attacked a group of children, and who are now attempting secession while hiding behind the people of Outer Mongolia, I promise you this: if it takes ten minutes, ten years or ten decades I will hunt you to the ends of the earth. You will know, not only the fury of a Princess, but the fury of a nation united against you and the fury of the Sword of the people (the military). You have done more to undermine the autonomy of the Outer Mongolian region in the past week, than has ever been done before. You have undermined your own democratically elected Regional President. Do the views of those in the region who wish to remain a part of Vaule carry less weight than those who wish to leave? Absolutely not.

We will continue to fight, however we will not forget what it is that we fight for, and we will never stoop to the level of hiding behind defenseless schoolchildren. There is still a chance for you to surrender. If you do not, we will be forced to expand our offensive significantly. What you have faced now, is a mere fraction of the military might at our disposal. We have used significant discretion and have restrained our use of force as much as possible. However if the attacks continue, we will intensify our military operations and we will impose a regional blockade.

The ball is in your court."-HRH Princess Marimeya

***Novaya Ulanbataar***

As MLA Forces entered Novaya Ulanbataar they were repeatedly hit by snipers, and occasional anti-armor missiles fired by the remaining units of the military. Military snipers had hidden themselves in alleyways, in abandoned buildings, in shrubbery and just outside the town. The troops in the region hardly ever attacked directly, and resorted to sporadic anti-tank fire.

Once that the troops noticed that most buildings seemed to be abandoned, and therefore with no civilians, several improvised explosive devices would be thrown all over the city in different directions. These IEDs were incendiary, and were ment to burn any snipers alive. When a sniper was detected, antitank fire would be used to reply, so that even if the sniper wasn't directly hit, the explosion or even the crumbling building would get them. The Soldiers advanced regardless of any sniper related losses.

OOC: I hadn't made the MiG's approach, they're standing by ready to take off somewhere.

When the helicopters approached, they would receive AA fire from the MLA ground positions. Units that were out of range were quickly mobilized to try and terminate the helicopters, which were particularily suceptible to MLA's AA weapons, which were typically less effective against fixed wing aircraft. The little enclaves would be dealt with using supression fire from the troops, until anyone with antitank capabilities managed to get in range to dispatch them. Incendiary bombs, grenades, and molotovs were also used. The policy was to advance systematically destroying each focus of resistance.

When the enemy fixed-wing airforce came, MLA would take a different strategy, and started to mostly infiltrate buildings. This would case for any bombing campaigns to have to target both their own civilians AND their own troops and infratstructure when the MLA infantry used the city infrastructure for cover. AA still was there however, firing back towards anything that moved and was floating in the air.

When they entered Chita, they noticed something disturbing. The city was catching fire, and it was definately more than fire squads would handle. The advancing troops ran into rather massive IEDs along the road, although they caused minor casualties compared to the size of the army, the point was to make them feel that no matter where they'd step they'd be vulnerable. Chita would be a hollow victory, as it would in no time be only ashes.

"So, I see that Her Highness Princess Marimeya has spoken to us. It is mildly hilarious to see her blurt out such words like democracy and freedom and terrorism in a way to justify the oppression of the Mongolian People. Do you know how many messages our Democratic Government had sent to Vaule regarding different problems, discrimination, lack of resources, abuses and oppression? 8934. None of those were ever replied to. Outer Mongolia has been little but Vaule's trash can. We refuse to give in to this destiny. Doesn't Value see that even if they manage to kill our people know, we'll be fighting again sporadically through the next fifty years until we rise militarily again? Do they really think that they can get away with this? The only way in which we'll stop is if we simply all die, or if we achieve our independence. Look at Vaule's military. They have decided to use the arms, they have decided genocide, but we have decided to defend ourselves from such destiny. The Princess seems to be confused regarding our functionality, as we are actually democratic. Then again, she uses democratic as if this automatically ment something good. Vaule is democratic and they've always been just about as bad as any Stalinist Dictatorship. And look at us. We are considered to be "Terrorists" now. We're not terrorists because we do not rely on terror, we stand up and fight in the battlefields and have the support of all of Outer Mongolia. Terrorists are Vaule as they've always relied on their armed forces to scare our people into submission. Democracy, terrorism, two words that she throws around in order to put up a honorable facade for all of her lies. She always had the power to stop this. Look now to Novaya Ulanbataar. She is bombing her very own city in order to kill us, condemning her own civilians to death, without even counting the soldiers. This is the same that happened with the hostages, who were in fact killed by the Government rather than us. We are but the scapegoat for Vaule's violent attitudes. Our fight is not against the people of Value, our fight is for our freedom and against Value's government. One can say the Vaulian people are our allies, as they are also vastly oppressed. We will continue our fight. We shall defend our state."

***Novaya Ulanbataar***

Any Vaulian troops left in Novaya Ulanbataar who weren’t killed in the enemy advance withdrew from the city toward government controlled areas. 7 of the 10 Mi-24 Helicopters were destroyed by enemy fire, while 3 managed to return to base.

***Chita***

The Vaule army decided that it would be futile to attempt to save Chita, so they withdrew from the main part of the city and instead moved around it. Almost 40 soldiers were killed by the various IEDs hidden throughout the city before the order was given to pull back and move around the city instead. The army proceeded slowly, expecting IEDs at every turn.

In an announcement on all radio and television media, the government released a statement:

“We have held back and been reserved in our use of force. What is left of Chita is a sign that the MLA will stop at nothing to achieve their aims. This will not be tolerated. To those who are truly civilians in this conflict we offer you a way out. The city of Ulan-ude and a ½ mile radius has been declared a militarily neutral zone. The Vaulian Ministry of Health has stationed doctors, aid workers, and supplies in the area for use of civilians.

EvacZone.png

We now ask that all civilians in the zones identified as Evac zone Alpha and Beta make preparations to evacuate the area. Civilians in Evac zone Alpha may proceed to Drovyanaya where MoH teams, in clearly marked aircraft (mostly transport helicopters) will evacuate you to Ulan-ude. Those in Evac zone Beta should proceed to what is left of Chita where you will be evacuated. All civilians should have their National ID card with them to facilitate a quick and unimpeded evacuation.

The Evacuation Aircraft will be clearly marked helicopters bearing the MoH roundel. In line with this agreement, Ulan-ude will be demilitarized immediately.”

In retaliation for Chita, the Vaule military prepared to hand over their air combat role to the Imperial Guard.

The IGF moved 20 F-22s and 8 Su-35s to the South Faron base (into specially built bunkers). The planes were armed with the latest air to air, and air to ground weapons and put on standby for orders. 10 Mi-28s armed with White Phosphorus and anti-ground unit weaponry are placed on standby.

An army engineer division has been ordered to the South Faron military base with trucks carrying land-mines and High-ranking officers from the Vaule Rocketry Brigade have been ordered to the base. Imperatrix Marimeya’s personal jet has taken off from Sygh-Varthys and is heading towards the region, unescorted by the Air Force.

In response to the massive amount of chaos and destruction going on in the Outer Mongolian Region of Vaule, the Hansa has begun to send various medical supplies, in addition to food, water, clothing, and building equipment to be taken to the regions in chaos at the present. These aid workers would be under the authority of the White Cross, however, because of the extreme emergency due to the situation, not every nation has been contacted, though it is estimated that in the future that further aid will be provided to the Mongolian region.

Twenty cargo planes took off from Brisbane Military Airport towards runways in Vaule owned Irkutsk, the workers would be unloaded into trucks and helicopters that would then take them to cities such as Ulan-Ude to begin dispensing aid. This was the White Cross' first true mission of humanitarian aid and with the blessings of the Lady Protector and the world community, it would succeed and the amount of death and destruction would begin to subside at their arrival.

----

Katherine Metzinger had been sitting in the back of a Humvee since they had left Irkutsk hours ago. It was cold and she wanted to be back home in Brisbane, but this was her option besides joining the regular Hanseatic military. The white cross on a blue background was the only thing illuminated on her sleeve as a orange lantern bounced back and forth between her and the group of workers who where with her. She was only twenty-three, on board for the adventure and choking on the smoke from the men's cigarettes around her.

"This country's been unstable for the past year it seems. We shouldn't even be here." Said a bearded man throwing his cigar out of the back into the darkened landscape. "They think that a little foreign aid is going to help them out. Just give the damn Mongols their independence."

"There's more to the war than that Byron!" Said another man. "Stability is only half of it."

Katherine stayed silent as the Humvee descended into arguing, but when they finally arrived, the cigarettes nearly felt out of their mouths. The damage was immense, it didn't even look like a town anymore.

"Well c'mon, let's set up shop."

Katherine followed the men as they jumped down to the ground and began to unload the trucks as helicopters landed a few yards away. Using some nearby burnt out buildings, the White Cross set up booths for the distribution of water and food as construction workers filled out into the town to begin any quick reconstruction projects, especially the engineers whose most important duty was to bring in a steady water and electrical supply to the town. It would be a long project and Katherine found herself in the food department handing food to young children, some with eyes blown shut from explosions. Many times during the night she had reduced herself to crying in a corner. This was war in all its romantic glory.

As soon as the White Cross observers arrived, they were introduced to Dr. Mikhail Zelin, the head of the evacuation and aid distribution (and secretly a SWoRD agent). For the duration of the operations in Ulan-Ude, Dr. Zelin would be responsible for overseeing the actions of the White Cross and ensuring that aid did not fall into the hands of the MLA.

The retreating troops were harrassed for a while, causing a few more losses on their side, but then MLA quickly pulled back and secured the city. However, the bombing had been too problematic, the city had many massive fires as a result primarily of Vaule's bombing. A communicate was sent out to the White Cross:

"Although we have captures Novaya Ulanbataar, we will be now pulling back from it as the zone was too badly damaged by aerial bombarding. I would advice you to head there in order to help."

MLA did not retreat right away, they looted supplies of all kind, whether these were military related or simply food, or articles of first necessity, having stolen many cars and trucks they quickly withdrew from the area back to their zones somewhere, escorted and protected by all of their vehicles. Additionally, around 1500 citizens had decided to join MLA's ranks. MLA's casualties had been on the 100ths, so this covered them and added a little bit more.

This was a triumph, and raised MLA's Morale even more. But it was not only simply a moral victory, lots of supplies of all kinds were captured, vehicles, new recruits were found, even a few tanks and armored vehicles had been seized. The only thing that kept it from being a total victory was the destruction of the city.

The Reserves were activated:

153 Katyushas were deployed and sent forwards unseen, shooting off their rockets with remarkable, unexpected (for terrorists) coordination, and then instantly turning and leaving the area, heading for friendly terrain. It was a one time deal only, more like a "Don't let the door hit you on your way out" barrage of rockets. The Katyushas didn't have much armor, so being fast was very useful.

Efforts from Vaule and the White Cross to set up humanitarian aid posts were largely useless. When they moved to Outer Mongolia, the majority ofthe people didn't want anything to do with them, even those who were actually in trouble refused to deal with them, out of pride and in Vaule's case out of hatred for the Government. When the White Cross moved in, people shut their windows. They were clearly not wanted, as they were very disillusioned that noone in the world dared help them, and would rather have them die or submit to Vaule. A few who happened to be Pro Vaule did go there, however at a glance at least 80% of the Mongolians seemed to oppose Vaule. There wasn't much to do for the White Cross.

"Sir..bad news"

"Hmm?"

"One of our transport planes crashed, bad weather and a heavy load seem to be the reason."

"!@#$..what cargo and where did it crash?"

"Two Morserpanzerwagens, ammunition for them, reactive block armor attachments, and we think somewhere near or very possibly in the contested Mongolia area. It was part of the long term shipment to Dragonesia."

"Well..that isn't much of a loss, is the pilot okay?"

"No idea sir, he said was going to attempt to land on a large field before radio cut out. For all we know the cargo could be fine or it's just piles of scrap metal."

"Call the Vaule government, tell them what you just told me, get back what you can. You said that area was contested?"

"Yes sir, rebels. Nothing much."

"Well, hopefully they don't get their hands on that equipment, perhaps we should stop shipping the ammo alongside the weapon." Rebeu said as he looked at the exact cargo list, and noticed that it included about 1000 AP rounds and 500 AT.

OOC: If you don't want this, just say no and i'll edit my post so that it never happened. I'm just trying to spice it up. :P

Colonel Gustaf Surensteim sat across from Dr. Zelin with flashing eyes, he was angry, tired, and cold and on top of this. The entire humanitarian aid mission was turning into a failure. Surensteim was a military man and ran his detachment of the White Cross as such, removing his white Hanseatic military cap he flung it on the table revealing his balding head from a life of stress, nervousness, and war. "Tell me Zelin, why am I even here! You know how many people came for aid today? Twenty! Twenty people! The international community is willing to give billions of dollars in aid to this region and because of this bloody war nothing will get done. My country alone has already invested two billion dollars, you people need to help work this out or nothing is going to get done" He pounded a fist on the table. "And I swear to God, if some of my men start to get killed, there's going to be hell to pay."

Surensteim sat back and sighed. The whole situation was screwy. He had seen rebellions first hand and could tell that this one wasn't close to being resolved. "Is there any chance that your government will cede to peace? Or perhaps our organization can moderate some kind of proposal between the two. I understand full well that these people don't want help, but when they finally realize that they need some kind of support, the world might see it as being too late."

OOC: Hope you don't mind me RP'ing an aid worker or two, and a soldier escort. If you do mind, ignore this post...

IC: Lieuteneant Glorianna Keyes, standing just to the right of Colonel Gustaf Surensteim, shook her head. No, from the previous history she'd seen of this region, too many rongs had been committed on both sides. This would only end one way, with the complete geonocide of ther Mongolian people.

However, she was not the commander here, so it was not her place to speak.

When the aircraft fell, people were surprised, they thought it was probably some people from the Government. In no time they were surrounded by villages with Kalashnikovs and Helmets. But a commanding officer quickly came along, and a survivor was found. The commanding officer, who surprisingly didn't appear to have a Mongolian complexion, spoke in Swedish,

"That is some mighty bad flying of yours. I thought your Boss ran things better than this."

"Who are you?"

"You will ask no questions. We will take you to the White Cross for assistance..."

Another survivor was discovered, although he was gravely wounded and knocked out, a leg crushed...

Ten minutes later a civilian vehicle took the two survivors to the White Cross.

--------------------------

Der Kommandant looked through the wreckage and managed to pull out most of the equipment. Surprisingly, the vehicles worked. The plane proper was used to create more improvised armored for other vehicles. In a few hours, nothing of the plane remained.

Over in the battle front, the retreat and reorganization of MLA's troops continued, bolstered again by new findings. The Commander grinned to himself, familiar with the vehicles, wondering if this had been done on purpose. No, it couldn't be. He walked back to the Bunker.

OOC: Finally a little help lol thanks.

Dr. Zelin glanced at Colonel Surensteim with a blank expression on his face:

“Well Colonel, you are only here to ensure that the distribution of aid is conducted in an unbiased manner. The majority of the financial and material aid has been allocated by the Central government once this conflict is over. We hope that the White Cross would be able to assist primarily in overseeing aid distribution and providing the additional support staff. While we appreciate the…billions in aid that could be offered, the majority of it is unnecessary; while there will no doubt be a small shortfall in the extent of aid that the Central government will provide, the initial supplies brought in will more than make up for that shortfall.

Secondly, as long as your men remain in Ulan-ude then the chance of any of them being injured or killed is extremely slim. Should any of your men venture outside of the safe zone, then that would be a problem.

As for ceding peace, the Vaulian government will not be negotiating a peace with a terrorist group…period.”-Dr. Zelin.

VNN News:

Her Royal Higness Imperatrix Marimeya has held a meeting with Patriarch Aleksandar of the Vaule Orthodox Church, the 15th Khambo Lama and the regional President N. Li in Outer Mongolia. The Imperatrix is discussing revising portions of Vaule’s Constitution to permit a greater level of representation of Vaule’s two Autonomous Regions in the Central Parliament. The Imperatrix and President Li have been negotiating a possible solution to the situation in the region, however prior to the conference the Imperatrix maintained that Independence is not an option. In a joint statement the Patriarch of the Vaule Orthodox Church and the Khambo Lama (Head of Outer Mongolian Buddhism) called for an immediate halt to the violence in the area and the creation of a Charter of Rights to be enforced by both sides.

In Sygh-Varthys nearly 60,000 people have taken to the streets in support of the government. Speaking to the rally in the capital, Prime Minister Ivanov has vowed that “If the nation of Vaule stoops to the level of negotiating with terrorists, thieves and secessionists, then I will cease to be a part of such a government. I implore the President and the Imperatrix to stop having the military fight with one hand tied.”

In other news, an attempt to reform the MVM terrorist group (Movement for a Vaulian Outer Mongolia) was prevented. Caledonia police reported that 22 people were arrested in a government operation earlier today.

Each force (except Delta and Epsilon) simultaneously advances from pro-gov’t territory. The aircraft focus on high-altitude bombing runs and air to air defense as the troops move forward with the offensive. Vaule Imperial command begin use of more advanced, satellite guided bombs and the latest in air to air weaponry. Whenever even small numbers of enemy ground forces were encountered they were hit with heavy fire from anti-infantry artillery and fighter aircraft. Several cruise missiles are launched toward known enemy targets scouted out by UAVs.

As the army advanced, Delta Force followed behind them. Once the army had secured a small area, they searched every home in the area and arrested anyone who possessed a firearm, or who Military Intelligence had linked to the MLA.

***Force Epsilon***

Once the offensive began, Epsilon force began a high altitude bombardment of the remaining runways (outside of pro-government region) as well as any undestroyed arms depots. The Force would also use UAVs to scout near the border regions. If anything was spotted moving across the border, Epsilon force responded either with bombs dropped by the UAVs or from the MiGs.

Whenever the Air Force withdrew to rearm and refuel, Force Upsilon would fire a barrage of Cruise Missiles at enemy positions. In order to prevent a lack of air power at any time, the minute a set of fighter jets pulled out to re-arm, they would be replaced immediately by a backup squadron.

Surensteim clenched his fists and smiled at the Doctor, there was no reason to offend his temporary commander anyways and it was Vaule that had requested the aid. He represented the White Cross along with the Hansa here and he would be damned to give either a bad name. "Of course sir, my apologizes for stepping over my boundaries and I will make sure that none of my men leave from the safe zones in Ulan-ude, however in time if I were to be able to know around what our next mission will call for I will get a detachment ready if we need to be shipping out." He saluted the doctor and turned to Keyes to follow him out.

After they were out of earshot he turned angrily to the lieutenant. "No matter what we are staying in this country and those people are going to get our help. I'm so close to sending a representative to the Mongolians right now just to see if we can lend them supplies." He pounded his fist. "But that would just bolster them and lead to more killing. No, belay that order Keyes, just go back to the depots see if any more people have come for help."

MLA Forces (Total)

----------------------

20 T-55r

5 T-72

2 Mörserpanzerwagen

10 IFV/APCs

50 Gimlet

50 Grail

3000 Professional Soldiers

10 MIG-21

450 Katyushas

15000 Trained Rebels (Some with proper combat experience)

300 Transport Vehicles (Civilian vehicles with improvised armor)

80 Improvised Fighting Vehicles (They either serve as APCs or have been fitted with recoilless Antitank rifles, or heavy machineguns)

650 Katyushas

35 Recon Bikes

10 MiGs

3 Khan Tanks - Custom made tanks in local factories, salvaging pieces of broken tanks. They are basically the T55's gun mounted fixedly on a chassis to work as a tank destroyer, resembling a modern version of a Marder III.

30 NI-2 Light Tanks, manufactured locally, essentially metal boxes that move and happen to have a heavy machinegun.

2 Catapults.

Reserves: 6000 Rebels in Training

--------------------------------

Force Gamma was targeted, for more than one reasons.

The totality of the forces minus the Reserves and the MiGs were used for this offensive, aiming to overwhelm and suppress. MLA had thusly focused nearly the totality of their forces in an attempt to quickly do away with that group, to then be able to buy time, withdraw, and work on the next. The Mobile portions of the army moved around Forced Gamma to try and attack any supply lines that it may have, and surround it, this happened at the same time that massive Katyusha fire was used. The two Catapults were also used, they were shooting incendiary rounds, it would not be pleasant to be hit by one of those. Right after this began, resembling the hordes of ancient times, the infantry and whatever hadn't yet commited to battle from the other elements, began their pocketting and crushing of Force Gamma. The Reserves were being kept elsewhere, in case retreating may be needed. From the way in which one fourth approximately of the soldiers were fighting, one could tell that they had been abusing drugs - bullets they would not feel, and they would not fall while they had phyisical command of their body, they were euphorical, aggressive, and felt no pain. Simply their faces alone would strike fear.

One had to admit, for a bunch of terrorist rabble, they were competent.

"Yes sir," she replied, saluting. She immediately marched toward the nearest jeep to carry out her orders.

At the first place she stopped, the man in charge shook his head at her inquiry. He commented angrily. "Only 2 more. We can't f***ing help them if they don't come to us! We're not associated with the Vaulian government, for heaven's sake, but we might as well be, for all the good we're doing here! And that overseer we have from the Vaulian government probably isn't help[ing matters..." By this time, his rant had drawn the attention of the two people he'd mentioned who had come to get aid...despite the fact that it had trailed to a whisper by the end of it.

Keyes shook her head, climning back into the jeep. It was going to be a long day...

Unlike the Army, the Imperial Guard stood their ground and fought with a ferocity that would surprise even their commanders.

***Force Gamma***

Encountering heavy resistance from MLA units, the Gamma force moved ahead with their tactics. Once enemy forces were in range, a rain of thermobaric and incendiary missiles were launched from the VA-774s. Once the first Katyusha’s were launched, the F-22s and Su-35s bombed their launchers rapidly.

Once enemy infantry were spotted, Mi-28s bombed them with everything in their arsenal, including a few White Phosphorus bombs when they were far enough away to not damage the Imperial troops. With the absence of enemy air units, the VA-210s turned their guns to the enemy’s ground forces. Although they were outnumbered, the use of the unit’s Air power proved to be extremely efficient.

Despite the odds, the Imperial guard stood their ground and continued a massive barrage of enemy lines. Using satellite positioning and available UAVs, the Imperial Forces used the Su-35s to bomb enemy tank and vehicle formations. In the fighting the Imperial Guard has confirmed 800 deaths, and 1 VA-774 and two T-72s were destroyed. The Air wing of Alpha Force also managed to provide air cover and anti-infantry fire for the Gamma unit.

***General***

The relentless air bombing of the region continued throughout the night and into the morning without stopping even for a moment. As the government promised, the bombing would be non-stop. During the night factories were bombed, and the radio station (used to broadcast the Independence declaration) was bombed.

East of the capital, Novaya Ulanbataar, the Imperial Air Force bombed the province’s power station for a second time causing a massive explosion so bright, that it could have been mistaken for the sunrise. Throughout the night, those who weren’t kept awake by the earthshaking explosions, were kept awake by the sonic booms from fighter jets breaking the sound barrier as they moved across the area.

***6:30am, Krasnokamensk***

As the bombing edged closer to the small town, the Air Force dropped pamphlets all over the area.

“You have until 1pm to gather your belongings and your family members and move north to Klichka. We have reports of MLA activity in your area. This is not a drill. At 1:00pm, the military will begin operations in the region. “-X.Onatapp Head of Vaule Military in the region.

***Safe Zone, Ulan-ude***

As the sun rose, more than 1200 people rushed into the safe zone. Some were pro-government, some were pro-MLA, but they had both been tired of the conflict and the bombing and had decided to leave. As the people had their information recorded by officials at the scene, and were shown to the aid distribution centers, Dr. Zelin watched three people with an odd expression on his face. A woman and her son were carrying a wounded man on a stretcher to the Hospital wing and were oblivious to Dr. Zelin staring at them.

Once they were out of sight, Dr. Zelin returned to his duties. He made a mental note to visit this mysterious "patient" before the end of his rounds. He glanced at the nearby tent then whispered to himself:

"Welcome Buddha's fist..."

The effects were devastated, towns and cities soon caught fire, the population began to flee the areas bombed en masse, although they did not go to Vaule nor to the white cross zone, but rather made their way chaotically out of the country, being by now either too hateful towards or afraid from anything Vaulian related. People took whatever they could, sometimes fleeing empty handed altogether. Many, too many, would die.

The remainder of MLA's forces in this area lost organization and cohesion and continued to fight in small uncoordinated groups of around fifty people each, as the enemy troops advanced sometimes these groups emerged beyond enemy lines, cutting off supplies and then backstabbing the army. Some desperate civilians after seeing their families die, would do the same. Hatred was their fuel. IED usage was big, all remaining antitank weapons would also be used quickly against any armor or nests. This gave the impression that the regular army was encircled, attacked from all sides by a force at least as big as it was, while in reality this was not the case.

As the sun rose, more than 1200 people rushed into the safe zone. Some were pro-government, some were pro-MLA, but they had both been tired of the conflict and the bombing and had decided to leave. "Unexpected to meet here..." The man sits up and removes what had been a patch of fake blood, once that they were in a locked room. He smiles.

The Mongols pushed on with their attack as if nothing happened. Some of them who were set aflame, still managed not to feel it due to the drugs, so the bombs were mostly useless unless they dealt with direct hits, or hits on vehicles. Casualties were very high - on both sides - and the army pushed on within the Imperial Guard's space to the point in which they had to draw bayonettes and knives to fight hand to hand. The Katyushas kept firing in spite of this towards Gamma. They would be eliminated, but the MLA would lose one third of their forces and lose much of its organization however. But they had planned just for this and quickly withdrew to the north, gathering the remaining of their forces. They formed again and without anything to lose but their already forsaken lives, they marched once more avoiding fires with grim expressions towards the rest of the army. The weather remained very dry, encouraging fires even further. By then the fires were so many that even the regular vaulian army would need to take a little care where they stepped. MLA's MiGs acted in the middle of the chaos towards the general vaulian army group, they had loaded themselves with plenty of explosives, basically turning them into missiles, and would systematically crash themselves into the Vaulian Army at different points, resembling V-1s. Redundant equipment and armor had been removed to make them both faster and able to pack much more explosives. Another little army group of 3000 half trained soldiers and 30 vehicles moves up to attack the Vaulians in an attempt to break through one of their groups and link up with the rest of the forces. MLA had thrown all it had at this, and was fighting it out until the last man. Around 3 small planes were also used as improvised rockets.

It was hell, civilian casualties were simply massive, only the Italian Nuclear War had been bloodier than this.

OOC: Bombed the power plant, not the surrounding areas, just to make sure that any repairs would be set back. As for leaving the country, that would be nearly impossible.

OOC: Not Buddha's Shadow....Buddha's fist. Different RP. He's not MLA. I'll RP my damages and additional troop movements shortly.

Once the MiGs were spotted by the Air units, they were attacked relentlessly by both the aircraft above, and the AA guns on the ground. Several enemy MiGs were shot down, but one managed to hit its target causing numerous casualties.

Of the 5000 troops, there were 2200 confirmed dead and 750 seriously injured.

As Force Alpha consolidated their control over their area and routed the small pockets of resistance, Force Beta marched onward expanding the zone of government control. Although Gamma force was defeated, permitting the MLA to retreat north, the military gained control of significant swathes of territory. The remnants of Force Gamma continued fighting to the death even as their remaining equipment was destroyed. One of the T-72s from Force Gamma was only lightly damaged and could be salvaged by the MLA. With the ground troops destroyed, the air units tied to Gamma force pulled back to base.

With slightly more than half of the region under government control, the government planned to use their momentum to begin a push to the north, into the very heart of pro-MLA territory. Some of the citizens who supported the MLA’s push for independence reconsidered their position once the Regional President made his positions known. Despite his position in the Regional government, and his inability to prevent the events leading up to the conflict, Regional President Li was still well respected among moderate circles. More importantly, President Li still controlled the majority of the National Guard units in the province, and had the potential to further complicate the situation.

The announcement that Regional President Li was negotiating an end to the conflict was met with relief by some citizens and condemnation by others. In a short statement, Regional President Li called on the MLA to:

“immediately stand down before you destroy any hope we have of independence. The more you continue to fight, the more Vaulian troops will move into the region and the more people will be caught in the cross-fire. There are other ways to attain our goals without sacrificing so many lives in the process”

Unconfirmed sources near President Li have claimed that he has almost sealed a deal that would move the province closer to an internationally recognized independence

Force Alpha continued their march, but did not head any farther north their new target was to the South-east to Krasnokamensk.

ooc: Is it really that hard to walk out of an unguarded boarder? You don't completely surround the zone.

OOC: Short version:Given the history of the region, the fact that the border outposts are manned by the National Guard reporting to the Regional President, the fact that there is an inherent distrust of foreigners and the fact that those leaving the country would have to sneak across the border, hope that the country they end up with doesn't return them for not having passports or exit permits, hope that they aren't killed in a firefight along the way, given the small population of the region, and given the remnants of the MVM militias who may or may not decide to carry out revenge killings as they flee, the result is that only a few people manage to flee the area and get into another country. That explain it enough Uberstein?

OOC: Got it

IC: The MLA kept fighting and trying to regroup, with various results. Those who were caught in the pockets fought until they were either wiped out, or ran out of ammo. Half of the MLA forces had managed to retreat north. The people that tried to leave the country were mostly unsuccessful, but they were many. MLA, knowing that the battle was to end soon, pushed over to the border sectors, however careful not to step into other countries, and started to destroy the border positions one by one, to allow Mongolians to flee the area. This fight was relatively simple, however it was only a matter of time until the rest of the enemy forces would catch up. MLA's goal was freedom, if they could not achieve freedom within this land, at least they'd crack the borders open to let refugees flee and never return.

Operation Hammer Throw

The destruction of some of the border posts permitted some refugees to flee across the border, but it was also the final straw for the regional government. The borders were under the administration of the Regional President, and manned mostly by Outer Mongolian National Guard units. In response to the attack on the border posts, Regional President Li ordered the previously neutral Outer Mongolian National Guard to engage the MLA. With this decisive shift in policy, and MLA attacks on the mostly Mongolian National Guard, public opinion in the province began to shift against the MLA. Some were simply tired of the fighting, some saw defeat as inevitable, others could not believe that their own Liberation Army had attacked and killed some of their own brothers.

The White Cross in Ullan-Ude was in for a major surprise as more than 67,000 civilians rushed towards the Aid centre. The crowd waited impatiently to be let into the zone but they remained largely peaceful.

The Imperial Guard saw its window to salvage a political victory, and struck quickly. With the Outer Mongolian National Guard on their side, the Imperial Guard could significantly reduce their presence in the southern parts of the province and concentrate on attacking the northern MLA territory. The Imperial Guard led with a massive air assault followed by an advance of tanks and troops pushing into the last stronghold of the MLA.

NewChitaMap222.png

46,000 troops, aided by air cover and 12 T-72s pushed north to attack the MLA before they had a chance to retreat further north and regroup. The Outer Mongolian National Guard took up positions in pro-government territory to maintain law and order. The Imperial Guard received a further morale boost as Imperatrix Marimeya appeared at the front to command the troops herself.

***Unknown location Outer Mongolia***

An MLA messenger hurried into a dimly lit Hall with an important message. As he ran through the main hall of the bunker he could hear explosions in the distance. He was shown into another dimly lit room with a large statue of Buddha facing the entrance. Once he stepped tentatively into the room, he saw "The Council" for the first time. At the head of the table, sitting in front of the Buddha, was the none other than Buddha's shadow.

One of the seated council members signaled, giving him permission to approach Buddha's shadow. Fascinated by the mysterious council leader the messenger tried to get a good look at 'his' face that was obscured by the darkness.

"I have brought a message. Vaule has launched their attack to retake the north. I have been asked to..."-Messenger

Before the nervous messenger could finish, a council member shouted:

"You dare to stare at my Lady's face! Have you no respect for your superiors!"-???

The seated figure simply signaled the council member to take his seat, then turned to the messenger:

"Leave the note on the table and get out..."-Buddha's shadow.

The messenger complied and ran out of the room. Once he was out of the bunker he whispered to himself:

"The leader of the new MLA is a woman?"

MLA fell back one last time in a perimeter surrounding the bunker zone, this was very fortified. MLA fell back one last time, because it was all over, nowhere else to run. There had been success in the border operations, and it's estimated that half a million Mongols have so far fled. MLA withdraws from the border however, and the Vaulian troops will be soon able to close the breach. It was ferocious, MLA used the last things it had, tanks katyushas, even two flamethrowers - anything that could be fired was fired, anything that could explode, would be made to explode. The enemy was being successfully delayed. The Front would hold around 10 hours before it would be breached, sufficient time for evacuating the Leadership.

At the helm conducting the operations was the Nordlander directing it all, his uniform and face black from dust and battle at different points, holding an old Reichswehr standard issue pistol too, calling different orders here and there for the troops, ocationally shooting an enemy soldier himself with accuracy that would make a marksman jealous, sniping with a pistol only. An officer came up to him. "My General. Your prescence at the Bunker is requested immediately."

"Very well." He relinquishes command leaving his 2IC and enters a small jeep, heading to the bunker quickly, escorted by one guard. Artillery shells and rockets fell everywhere, it was a wonder he wasn't killed, casualties were being high, although higher on the Vaulians than on the MLA. This would only last the mentioned hours until ammo finally ran out. Some FLAK guns and one SAM system were being used to provide air cover too, seeming to be very old yet surprisingly useful models.

The General is saluted as he arrives to the bunker, he nods and removes his black cap upon entering, heading below. Continuing. The cap under his arm. After minutes, he would arrive to the room and salute briefly.

"My Lady, I am here."

Despite the chaos, Buddha’s shadow appeared oddly calm. She sat inside the bunker sipping a cup of tea while monitoring the tightening perimeter of enemy troops closing in on her location. She glanced up as the General entered, then signaled the others to leave the room.

"My Lady, I am here."

“General. You have provided us with invaluable assistance as we fought for our freedom. We could not have gotten this far without your help”

She rose from her seat, but remained in the shadows, then continued:

“Despite our best efforts, it seems that this battle is near its end. Some of us will meet our end here shortly. You shall not be among them. We have arranged for you to be taken out of the country.”

An aide hurried into the room and handed the General an envelope with a fake passport, and directions to a hidden runway where a small plane was hidden.

Buddha's shadow then replied in heavily accented German: “Gott sei mit euch” (God be with you)

The aide whispered to the General:

"You may speak freely. When you are finished speaking to Her Ladyship I will escort you to the plane"
