Transvaal goes dry

Prime Minister Jakob Hertzog announced today that alcohol production in Transvaal has been curtailed and prohibition will come into effect. The state brewery was unceremoniously closed as the last cases of Springbok Lager were scooped up by thirsty citizens for stockpiling.

The move is seen to appease the conservative groups in Transvaal, who by and large are lukewarm to the Hertzog Government. The prime minister is viewed by many to be part of the so-called 'progressive wing' of the National Party.

Whether it is related to the proclamation of prohibition, over 4000 citizens packed up and then departed the nation.
