the fate of a people (CNRPS)

Hukaat, like his opponent had, rolled with the blow, doing a reverse somersault--and retrieving the dropped staff in the process. Using the momentum, and adding a little more to it, he simply rolled far enough to land on his feet in a fighting crouch, once again holding the staff in his left hand and the sword in his right. The Nobody had backed off, giving him a little breathing room. he gave a brief nod to acknowledge the excellent skill Roxas had shown.

Now, if only Hukaat could knock one of those curious weapons out of his grip, he might have an advantage. Again he stepped forward, twirling to give the staff momentum as he swung it's end out toward the right side of Roxas' ribcage. As Roxas lifted to block the swing, he subtly altered the path of his own weapon, aiming to hit the Nobody's hand or wrist. Shock if he connected would force the weapon to be dropped...

Roxas, an experienced fighter forged in the best training exercises possible to a rapidly expanding empire, noticed the altered path of flight for the weapon. He flicked his own weapon forward, deflecting the blow on the base of the blade. The metal rang out with the impact, but Roxas didn't let that stop him. He pressed the attack, swinging mightily and clipping the staff on the side.

His other sword came down, chopping at the block hastily thrown up by Hukaat. A bloom of pain in his side told him the staff scored home; it wouldn't be enough to make Roxas give up his advantage. Again and again, blows powered by the dense muscles of the Nobody rained upon the thrown-up dagger. Hukaat was forced to drop the staff and try blocking using both hands; the metal rang from continuous impacts.

Eventually, the block grew tired; sloppy. A hit slid past and scored a glancing blow upon Hukaat's arm. Satisfied, Roxas stopped the onslaught and stepped back.

OOC: I know he's fast, but what you're doing is borderline godmodding...no offense. I'd like at least a chance to defend... :P

IC: "Don't tell me you're finished," Hukaat smirked as he quickly retrieved the staff and jumped back before any more attacks could be made. The knife was sheathed once again, so he could hold the staff and sword. He stretched the muscle where Roxas had hit (and the aother arm for good measure). It hurt, but not enough to inhibit movement. Though it'd certainly be sore tomorrow.

But he knew he had scored at least a glancing blow on the Nobody's side. No matter what his physiology, that had to have hurt....and that gave him an idea...

The stretching of his arms had put the limberness back in them. He closed once again, swinging both weapons in attacks from opposite directions. The Nobody could easily block them, but that was the idea. As Roxas blocked the obvious attack, Hukaat made his move. He dropped his weapons, grabbing Roxas by both wrists. He twisted rapidly, to see if that would make him drop the blades, and braced to make sure Roxas couldn't simply throw him. At the same time, he used his leverage to head-butt Roxas in the face...

ic: *Forboding narration* The Gods of Aegis were starting to notice an imbalance.. and their gaze began to shift towards the Nobody that was moving at speeds that border mortal allowance..... Someone was nearing abusing their racial gifts...

In the meantime Star had almost set the paper on his notepad on fire trying to keep up with the incredible speeds of the combatants in the fights!

OOC: It didn't hurt at all; it was a fluke hit out of like 4 or 5. :( Sorry if you thought otherwise. I didn't mean to be a speed demon. :(

IC:

Roxas was surprised, to say the least by the move. His blades were ripped away from him and a blunt forehead collided with his nose, sending sparks flying across his vision. But his combat expertise wasn't limited to armed dueling. He stood his ground and flexed his muscles, eventually dragging both bodies into a locked up struggle for dominance.

The Nobody gave a sadistic grin and looked deep into Hukaat's eyes. He spoke, his melodious voice suddenly harsh and edgy. "Wrong move." Lightning flickered up and down his arms, cascading in wave after wave of electrical force towards the General. For good measure, Roxas butted his head against the bottom of Hukaat's chin to increase conductivity.

To say the electricity hurt...that was an understatement. It did not, however, make him let go. In fact, any spasms it caused only made his grip that much tighter (and fortunately none was entering his body from that point--gloves had more than one purpose). In an automatic reflex, Hukaat's knee came up at Roxas' stomach.

The blow was entirely unexpected, forcing Roxas to stumble backwards still clutching at the spasmodically moving Hukaat, who was dragged along with him. The primary consequence of the move was the loss of control it brought; effectively turning the flow of energy to an explosive flash-flood of power roaring through Roxas' system. He fought to regain control, but the damage had already been done; a potentially fatal pulse of electricity blasted out from the Nobody.

The blast of energy blew them apart. Hukaat's hands were finally torn from Roxas's wrists as he flew backward to lay in a heap. He wasn't unconscious, but he was really hurting...he spasmed at the remnants of the electricity still coursing through his body, but somehow, despite the pain, he forced himself to his knees and raised his head to face his opponent, an unreadable expression on his face...

Roxas stood shakily, unaccustomed to losing control in such a manner. He paused for thought, and called out to his sparring partner. "An excellent fight. I believe we should stop now; that last bit was not on purpose. I didn't mean to let that amount of energy slip."

Hearing the translation, Hukaat simply nodded. "A draw, then..." his muscles chose that moment to give out, though he still remained conscious. He was carried off the field on a stretcher by two of his own men. As he passed Roxas, he managed to muster enough energy to give a the military salute of his people--a closed right fist pressed to his left shoulder...and a smile accompanied it.

Star stood up and clapped again, "Excellent exhibition..." He would state... he felt like participating, but some form of divine entity tweaked his mind and turned off the desire for aggression, a voice whispered in his head, "It is not your role in this world to be played congratulate them.. observe, and move on..."

Roxas gave him a shaky smile on the way past and strode uncertainly towards his discarded weapons. He picked them up and slid them carefully into the slots on his back. The Dragon Creature taking notes was eying him with some inscrutable emotion, so the Nobody deigned it important enough to investigate.

He walked over to it. "Can I help you?"

OOC: hmm, interesting...

IC: Both the Chairman and the King looked a bit shaken from the results of that battle (the Chairman's face was a shade paler than normal, which was saying something, as his race was naturally pale), but nevertheless, they nodded their agreement. it had indeed been a fine fight.

With the fight over, two more soldiers retrieved the weapons used--a dwarf returned Hector's weapons to him, and Hukaat's second-in-command would hold onto his weapons until the general was fully recovered. Hector was thanked for letting Hukaat borrow his weapons. he waved it off as nothing. "Even if they had been damaged," he told the Scout who thanked him, "it would have been worth it to see such a fine fight!"

"It's hard to explain, but I am unable to." He blinked quizzically as if trying to figure out why there seemed to be something wrong in his head.

By this time, a small crowd of observers looked on. Hector, Narir, Archon, Susul, Baati...they were not the only ones. Approximately a dozen other individuals could not help their curiosity. Four of them were dwarven children, who managed to slip by their elders. However, they stopped six feet away, apparently unsure if it was safe to come any closer.

It was hard to tell who the children were more fascinated with--Star or Roxas.

Roxas looked to the observers with an exasperated, lopsided smile. He walked to the adults, the kids scattering at his approach and stopped a few feet in front of them. He crossed his arms and took a deep breath.

"Any comments?"

The children regrouped as soon as he passed, continuing their unabashed stares.

One fellow was pushed forward by the others so he could answer (a human man to be exact), much to his chagrin. "Er...we were wonderin...' we can't tell ya apart from a human, but we noticed the display of power ya put on. What are ya?"

While the leaders and the highest-ranking members of either military had known who he was, they hadn't passed on the information. Not from any dleiberate action, but rathe rbecause they had been busy with other matters.

Roxas smiled. He was used to explaining, after countless times.

"I am a Nobody; it's a family of species unlike any you have ever imagined. The closest I really think you could compare to would be the hive-mind of insects for lower species. Eh....this might be a bit awkward, but a translation of what I am in your language would amount to "Chosen One". Effectively, I'm ruler."

He paused for breath, thinking about what else could be said.

"The regions we occupy are...." Roxas thought long and hard for the names the ancient maps had proclaimed for each region they had taken. "Mexico, Central America, Columbia, Ecuador, The Azores Islands, Southern Louisiana, Florida, Cuba, Hispaniola, and most of The Caribbean Islands."

The Dragon tilted his own head curiously at the children. He reached out clawed hand slowly, gently, and with the precision of a surgeon with those crude ivory weapons he carefully ruffled their hair without rendering a single scratch. He nodded to the elders.. if a quidpartite jaw could smile, his was doing it. He appreciated the youth.. didn't matter what the species. He crouched down a bit so they could get a better look at him.
