[CNRP] Narciss Takes a Vacation

Ranather

Recommended Posts

Rather than making a big grand state affair out of it, Ranather Rukia decided to go to Canada as an ordinary tourist. What better way to get good material for his next thesis on Reasonable Socialism and Communism than to see it in it's day-to-day form?

Arriving on the Red-Eye to Ferinh (OOC: sp?), Ran loked out at the bustling Megaoplis, he smiled. Seeing the country he called friend succeed was a good thing.

Going out into the city, instead of going to any one place and not expecting any of the common Saborian-Canadians to recognize him, he simply migled about, looking for anything interesting to catch his eye.

(OOC: Feel free to do whatever, Lynneth. :awesome: )

Indeed, few if any of the people recognised Ranather, most of the country's historybooks not featuring a picture of him.

And, as he had got a tourist pass prior to visiting the country, he was allowed to leave the international zone directly around the Ferinh Airport (Roughly a kilometer into every direction) and into the metropole itself.

Ferinh was mostly located on a big island in the Manicougan Lake - actually, the lake acted mostly like a gigantic, natural trench filled with water, so calling it an 'Eye' was quite appropriate. The island had a diameter of roughly 50 kilometers and thus was quite sizable, with plenty of space left for expansion or as nature-preservatons.

Rough-1.png

Legend: The blue dot is the Ferinh Airport and the International Area.

Yellow: Bridges connecting the Airport and the SkyCity with Ferinh.

Dark Red: The SkyCity

Black Dot: The Center Tower

Brown: Ferinh itself, surrounded by the Manicouagan Lake.

Upon entering the city, Ranather would find it to be quite clean in comparison to most other cities of its size and similarly, the traffic was very smooth, virtually no traffic jams happening. Of course, a vast subway contributed to this, as did regular and big buses for pedestrians. Additionally, almost 40% of the city's vehicles were electric vehicles, using nothing but electricity, cheaply available, instead of classic engines. Advances in battery-technology had made this possible. Aside from this, Ferinh looked much like other modern cities, with many various shops, restaurants and the like.

The big difference: No city had a gigantic tower, reaching about 1,200 meters into the sky, viewable from basically everywhere within the city (unless the view was obstructed by other buildings): The Nakheel Tower.

Ferinh alone would take days and weeks to fully explore, but for the entirety of Canada, one would possibly need months.

Of course it was impossible not to at least look at the thing, it rather stuck out, the tower did. But he didn't gawk, not wanting to look like some silly tourist. Also, since taking notes or pictures might look suspicious, as if a lanky, silver-haired foreigner in a fancy silver-black getup didn't already, he decided to commit most of what he saw to memory, at least until he could pen his thoughts properly.

Lazily mindling around the city, he stopped at a coffee house that rather caught his attntion, he ordered a simple black decaf roast. Looking out at the passing crowds, he began forming his lines of thought about common life in Canada.

Unless he directly participated in the life of a citizen (or became one), it was unlikely that Ranather could see its full extent.

Still, just watching the people walking and driving past the coffee house - which brought the decaf roast rather quickly, though only of average taste - could show that there were just as many different personalities in Canada than anywhere else in the world. Students, business-men, rich and less rich people.

Thanks to the various socialist policies, the poor were being helped quite extensively with education and if necessary, a drill-instructor, to turn them into people contributing to the society.

But because of this and other things, taxes were higher than in many other countries, actually approaching 50%. But the people were educated to be rational - for the government to be able to keep these expensive programs running, this money was needed.

OOC: Note that I may or may not write Propaganda, so if it sounds too much like an utopia, :awesome:

Pulling a pen and Legal Pad from his bag, Ranather began to jot down some notes.

* Standard of living above average, Comparable to most modern nations

* Taxes above average, following normal Socialist model.

* Education seems a bit extreme but without firsthand experience; unable to form more fleshed out opinion

* Tourist Experience providing valuable information but more formal introductions to those in higher stations preferable

Going back to the coffee, which was rather better than he had expected, Ran pondered the thing he had saw. He pulled out a small voice recorder.

"Ranather Rukia's experiment in Socialist Living and Thesis Research.

I've only been in Ferinh for a few hours but have developed a sense of how the Modern Rational Socialist State operates. The state of living is not unlike other comperably developed countries, however the high taxes and social programs have developed a base of highly educated and relatively wealthy citizens.

However, it is not immune to the ills of other nations, which bears further investigation."

There were oh so many things that were hard - though not impossible - for an outsider to see.

For example, as per the Ubersteinian origins of Canada's governmental policies, there were cameras everywhere in public places, most of them hidden or concealed in some way.

There also were big flatscreens, usually at least one visible from any part of the streets or the sidewalks. Relatively few policemen were to be seen, though there of course was the possibility of them acting undercover more often than in other countries - something that would actually be expected from a communist state, but was certainly not the truth in Canada. Both the crime-rate and unemployment were relatively low, the former because of the many cameras and other measures, the latter because of the state creating work, as according to the government's policies.

A Canadian could always find work, he simply had to be willing to travel a bit in the worst case.

A major achievement of Canada was for example an Agriculture Development Program, to ensure that every Canadian got enough food, surplus being sold into other countries. The country also had extensive fallout shelters, a great Temple in the capital dedicated to all (non-destructive) religions, a Monument in honor of those who fell for their country, great universities, a huge research complex - Black Mesa - numerous social programmes and, of course, the greatest achievements:

The Nakheel Tower, the SkyCity, the Space Program and the Space Elevator, though the latter was built with help from the entire world.

OOC: I really need specific questions for stuff like that... <.<

Send me a PM with everything you wanna know, Ranather, and write as many detailed questions as you want. Same for others who'd like to know more.

OOC: Heck, let's be a bit more traditional about this now, I'm bored. Have someone approach me or something, say that my presence has been noted and someone wants to see me, or something like that. :P

OOC: Blarrrrrrrr.

IC: Some time after Ranather had finished his coffee, A man sat down at his table, without asking.

He didn't look exactly like a normal Canadian, with the camo-patterned hat he was wearing.

The man looked at Ranather's writing equipment, seemingly interested.

"You wouldn't happen to know what R.E.P.O. was, Mister Rukia?"

OOC: Yes, it's Price again. :awesome:

Also yes, Leclerc knows about the REPO, or rather, what it was. He knows who participated, and uses this to ensure that it's really one of the REPOmen, should one of them happen to visit. Like Ranather in this case.

OOC: He was the leader of the SAS in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare...that is, if memory serves me correctly. :awesome:

OOC: That.

And, if you'd bother clicking on the link in my signature bringing you to the BNops thread, you'd know that he's the highest-ranking officer of my special operatives, the BNops. :awesome:

OOC: Yup, and the BNops are an elite unit in Saboria/Canada. There's nothing in the world that can stop them. Well, except Xenu, that is. :awesome:

OOC: That's right; as I said, I knew I'd seen him before. However, I wouldn't know about the game character, as I haven't personally played any of the Call of Duty games.

OOC: Xenu, you mean.

Who wears some crazy-awesome armor. But I've no idea if a team of BNops could take on Xenu or not, and we'll likely never see it, because, well, Sargun and I are fwiends IC. =3

They have all kinds of prototype-weapons, though, even if those will probably never, ever be used by me otherwise.

Edit: Fix'd tags, durhur

OOC: That's the idea. Your special forces and espionage agents have access to TRUE cutting edge technology that is not available to the common citizenry or regular military. It's expected, really.

Oh, and fixed the tages for ya...

Somehow, he said it in a tone that implied 'I won't accept no, and you know that', while smiling at Ranather.

"I suppose I have no choice, then? Let us be off."

"Good that you agree with me. Now, follow me please."

Price got up and put some money onto the table, to the waiter to take as payment for Ranather's coffee.

After this, he would proceed to walk a block or two, just fast enough for Ranather to easily keep up. He did, however, not turn around, safe in the knowledge that there were 5 other BNops operatives nearby that would catch Ranather if he tried to flee. Of course, all were disguised.

Finally, Price stopped before a simple car, a Balde economy car, apparently slightly modified for better protection against small arms and the like.

"The backseat's door is open.", Price said as he got into the car.

Ranather simply got in, not adverse to the fact that he was being watched and followed. After three attempts on your life, you get to develop eyes and senses like a Puma.

Once Ranather was in the car, Price began driving towards the Chairman's residence.

It was an eventless drive, and quite boring, taking roughly an hour. It seemed that Price deliberately drove through half the city to show it off somewhat, but then they finally arrived at the residence. Price got out, asking Ranather to do the same.
