JEDCJT
WHAT TO DO? Although Operation Restoration was progressing well militarily, the prospects of widening a war because of the possibility of the intervention of the Slavorussian Empire has made the Provisional Government uneasy about the current situation in the Socialist Republic of Zurran. It faced difficult choices: should it withdraw its troop from the region because of foreign intervention and lose face on the world stage, or should it continue on the 'war' and triumph -- or should it just remain in place and weigh the next course of action? The media mocked the Government's stance, "Oh, what to do?" One newspaper article went. "As if that isn't a difficult choice! Waging war isn't in the Provisional Government's business. At best, Byzantium'll be mired in war by the times the Byzantine brothers return; at worst, Byzantium'll be doomed to devastation and catastrophe and William Hans's name will be synomyous to John Kelikark's!" Agostinho Neto
Azerbaijan has closed its borders with Byzantium in retaliatation to the unprovoked attack on the Socialist Republic of Zurran, the Department of Foreign Affairs stated earlier. The cabinet notification 'temporarily' banned Byzantine citizens from entering into Azerbaijan through borders with Armenia and Nakhichevan, DailyNews.Az reported. Addressing the National Assembly, Prime Minister Ali Kerimli said the Azeri government is deeply saddened by the indiscriminated and unjustified attack and that he has ordered extra security measures at the border. "We will not interfere in the war, but our full moral support goes to Zurran".
Lavo
"Has the Middle-East, never mind the world, seen enough pointless bloodshed and death? Why is Byzantium invading an independent, sovereign nation after it promised to move away from the policies and madness of the Nationalists? This war serves no purpose but imperialism." Raider
*Though the opening moves of the war had caught the nation and the military by surprise. The Zurran Red Army (ZRA )was taking full advantage of the Byzantium's inaction. It was clear that this war would be a war for Zurran's very survival and populance was rallying under the red banner to resist the invaders. 50,000 Red Army soldiers supported by 300 tanks had dug in and around the capital, waiting for the Byzantium to launch their attack. *500 troops, spilit into squads ranging from 5 to 10 began hit and run operations against the immobile Byzantium troops. Snipers shot officers, mortar teams fired shells into rear positions, machine gunners sprayed rounds into custers of Byzantium soilders, rocket teams hunted tanks, mines and IEDs were planted throughout roads leading further into the country. Harassment of the enemy went on nonstop.* *The bulk of the ZRA, 237,000 soldiers and 2843 tanks, were massed in the north of the country, holding position until Byzantine forces made their move. Ready to react and counter any offensive the Byzantine military were made. With control of the sky lost many soldiers had been given portable surface-to-air launchers to defend against Byzantium air strikes.*
JEDCJT
WITHDRAWAL! BYZANTINE TROOPS LEAVE THE COUNTRY Withstanding negative public and international sentiments regarding the ‘war’ in the Socialist Republic of Zurran, the Provisional Government quietly cancelled Operation Restoration, publicly ordering soldiers and tanks to return home. Except for ‘defensive actions’ (as to deal with harassing attacks), thousands of troops and hundreds of tanks began to retreat eastwards, back toward the Stavropol Republic. Hours later, the last Byzantine soldier and tank had departed. In the Black Sea, the Constantinople and other ships steamed back home, where the damaged Destroyer would be repaired; fighters, interceptors, and bombers flew back home. The ‘war’ was now over. With this, the Provisional Government has declared unconditional peace and issued an apology to the Zurran Government for this “abrupt and unwarranted act of aggression” and offered to pay millions in compensation for any damage inflicted during the ‘war‘. At this piece of news, the media extolled this decision, calling it a “honorable decision to end this dishonorable war.” Edited February 27, 2009 by JEDCJT
