Won't You Be My Valentine?

It had probably been around a month or so since Sarah had last seen Larsa, sure they talked every once in awhile on the phone, sure they sent letters to one another every now and then, but as for her eyes looking upon the man she loved there had been a void. She hadn't held his hand, hadn't seen his smile, hadn't kissed his face and she was beginning to feel the void become more and more powerful in her life. It felt weird at first the feeling, that she didn't know why her heart felt the way it did, but the less she saw General Solidor the stronger the feeling began to grow and finally she seemed to be waiting on every chance for correspondence or the chance to hear his voice. Maybe she thought, that she could fade away from his mind, or that he would fade away from hers.

Sitting in a meeting a week or so after visited the village of Cambric, various members of the Diet and her personal cabinet were gathered around her. They were reviewing the matters of the Refugee Act, the recently signed Treaty with Gebiv and the long list of insults that the Rebel Virginians had submitted to the Hanseatic Press.

"Of course I realize that scores more of people are going to be wanting entrance to the country Karl. But that's why I supported the bill in the Diet to begin with." Said one of the Senators. "Helsinki Constituents aren't particularly worried about refugees, in fact I think that it does a lot for the reputation of our nation on the world stage. Give us your hungry, your malnourished comes to mind."

"And what of the people, Hanseatic citizens that need to live next to them? I don't think care much for national reputation." The rural senator turned to Sarah. "Lady Tintagyl, I did not vote for you in the election, nor did many of my constituents and you can be assured that this will not help your polls numbers." The senator eyed Sarah oddly. "Lady Sarah are you listening to me?"

Sarah's head bobbed up from resting on her hand. "Hmm? No I was listening. Honestly Senator Marsjord, I don't really care if you didn't vote for me. Those refugees aren't doing anything to interfere with the workings of any towns in your region." She said tiredly.

"Your Excellency?" Minister Mechtenheim raised from his seat. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine Karl, but I'm going to excuse myself for a moment, I just need some peace and quiet for a moment." Sarah lifted herself from the chair as scores of eyes watched her, some angrily, some concerned, as she left the conference room and walked out into the large halls of the Diet. She walked across the marble floor to a side hallway and took a seat against the wall. Reaching into her suit pocket she pulled out a small envelope and piece of paper along with two tickets to the Helsinki Symphony Orchestra's Valentine's Day Showing. She felt like such a little girl, back in school writing love notes against the wall.

Dearest Larsa,

It seems like ages to me since we last talked face to face, I believe at the coronation of his Lordship Elijah. I feel horrible saying this, maybe it shows my incredible weakness, but I really do miss you, though I know you are an incredibly busy man considering the matters of state in Franzharia. You and I, both leaders, both the representation of the people that we need to love more than ourselves. But Larsa, maybe just for one evening we can both forget the affairs of state and concern ourselves with the affairs of our hearts. Enclosed are two tickets to the Helsinki Symphony Orchestra, even for heads of state these tickets were hard to come by, but I managed for us to have a private box right above the pit, I would be honored if you would be able to be my escort for the evening. Please respond as soon as you can of course a surprise visit is just as welcomed. I hope to see you again soon and I pray always that everything is well.

Love,

Sarah

She stared at the letter and hesitated with the pen to cross a few lines out, maybe add a few more, but she just couldn't decide. Finally realizing that pondering over it would just screw it up more, she folded the letter and placed it in the envelope along with Larsa's symphony ticket. Jumping up from the wall she ran out of the Diet as fast as she could to the nearest mailbox and after dropping it in smiled the entire way back up to the Diet.

When that envelope reached Larsa's Bastion offices, it was like the happiest day of his life. Closing the office for the day, he immediately set out to craft his response.

Dearest Sarah,

Even on paper, your words bring a smile to my face. You are quite correct in the business of my person, however, I would gladly take you up on your request. It would be a distinct pleasure to see you again, and of course the prayers of wellness are reciprocal.

I know you continue to face trying times as do I and I think that this diversion will do our minds and hearts a deal of good.

Love and Prayers,

Larsa

Sealing the envelope he deposited it in his outbox and checked out, preparing to make the long drive back to the farmhouse to check up on things there.

Looking down at the letter Sarah's entire face brightened, the concert was in a few days now and she could hardly wait. Sitting in her office alone Sarah read the letter over and over again, smiling more and more each time, so when she finally placed it on top of the other important reports for the day she sat back and laughed to herself, she hadn't felt like this since college and she was happy the feeling was back. Even if she was reduced to a the personality of a little girl every day or so.

After the meetings had finished for the day she headed into Helsinki to set the appropriate appointments, she wanted to get her hair done, buy a new dress, and a few other things that Sarah felt was extremely important for the Symphony. The media would no doubt be there, those idiots could find a story in the most random of places and though most paparazzi wouldn't be caught dead at a Symphony Hall, using their skills to grab the monarchs and movie stars of Europe, European press seemed to love her and Larsa's little love story, she at least wanted to look nice if she was going to be showered by reporters. But hopefully they would stay away and it would be her and Larsa's night.

Sarah went to sleep that evening with high hopes for Valentine's Day and as her eyes closed, she hoped Larsa had the same.

OOC: Ran, whenever Larsa wants to show up will be fine. I don't know if you want to wait for the 14th in RL or not, everyone's on different time schedules so your call when the symphony will start.

IC:

Larsa arrived in the Hansa a little after 630pm. After an effortless border crossing he quickly made his way back to the estate. Checking the plethora of mail from the last month, he took his citizenship card, and threw the rest into a nearby basket. Spending no more than 20 minutes there, he locked the place up and left again for Helsinki.

It was nearly 8 by the time he arrived in the city. Knowing the event was still a couple days away, Larsa was just content to move about the city, and get to know the people of the country he was now a dual-citizen of. Moving about from cafe to cafe, he talked with all sorts of people.

OOC: Now that Larsa's in the Hansa, we'll fast forward to the 14th :)

IC: Sarah's entire morning and afternoon had been extremely stressful. She had woken up extremely early at five-thirty in the morning and the day began. Throwing on a old pair of clothes she ran towards the salon to get her hair and nails done, which took most of her day then she returned to the Diet, went through a quick meeting on a few small reports that had come up from the past week and then the hour it took for her attendants to dress her.

Standing facing the mirror she smiled. Her attendants flanked to her left and right, nodding in approval. "You look beautiful Lady Tintagyl, General Solidor is a lucky man."

"You think so?"

"Yes Milady, you two match so well together. Even at the ball, when the dancing started everyone in the room was watching you two."

She was in a long black dress, a diamond necklace hung down and sparkled in the dim light of the chandelier. Her hair hung down below her shoulders except for a few strands of hair that tied a white rose bulb in her hair. Nodding at the mirror one last time she walked towards the great mahogany doors leading out to the main hall. The aides had already announced that General Solidor was on the Diet Grounds. Walking down the stairs in the abandoned great hall an aide near the door bowed and reached over to the door handle.

"Lady Tintagyl, you have a visitor. May I present His Excellency, General Larsa Solidor." Sarah took a deep breath as the great wooden door opened slowly out into the strangely warm February air.

Larsa smiled heavily as the door opened to reveal no less than the Goddess standing before him. Dressed in a cut-black suit, a single silver rose in his breast-coat pocket.

"Sarah, I am glad to see you and of course you are as beautiful as ever. I'm glad you called me here, It was far too long."

She blushed and was barely able to look at Larsa in the eyes, but getting over the shyness she looked back up and could help but smile. "You look handsome as ever Larsa. Indeed, it has been far too long, far too long."

"If I may interrupt for a moment Your Excellencies." The aide bowed, "The Diet has asked that for security reasons that you two should take the limousine provided by the state, I understand General that you may have arrived differently, but Lady Tintagyl's protection is our biggest concern."

Sarah laughed. "Just like high school, but instead of parents I am property of the state." Ignoring anything else the aide had to say Sarah walked forward and took Larsa's arm in hers as they walked towards the black limousine that had pulled up in front of the hall. The driver was every bit the gentleman as he carefully loaded both his passengers into the car then make haste to the front to pull the limo off into the lit up city streets in Helsinki.

Once they were finally alone, under the yellow city lights Sarah turned to and pulled herself close. "Larsa I'm so happy that you were able to make it, it really has been a long time. But how have things been treating you in Franzharia? How is King Elijah?"

Larsa nodded to the aide as they moved into the Limo.

"Things in the Kingdom are of course as hectic as ever. I admit I'm not used to being at beck-and-call 24 hours a day, even being the Imperial Steward was easier than this, but I continue on. My business as of late has mostly been along the lines of shifting units, re-assignments, and things like that.

Elijah is as well as can be expected under the circumstances. He's adjusting rather well, I'd say. But enough of the worries of state. I'm just looking forward to a grand night with a beautiful woman I love."

The last sentence dropped her heart as her eyes watered for a moment before she leaned over giving the General a gentle kiss, they talked until the limousine arrived at the entrance to the Symphony Hall. The Hall had a certain majesty to it and more so, it had a special meaning to Sarah, after all it was here where she had formed some of her strongest bonds. She had met Romanov here, the USNA generals, and one could even say that her and Larsa's relationship had started to build in the very halls that stood in front of them.

The couple stepped out of the limousine and immediately the Symphony goers, those ladies and gentlemen that held themselves so high on a cultural standpoint seemed to freeze. Their Prime Minister and her escort reverberated such an essence over crowd that there was an immediate silence and they were no under the eyes of the world. Sarah could only smile, she looked at Larsa who did likewise as they walked into the Hall.

The Press as they figured had been there, but surprisingly they keep their distance and besides the occasional 'Good Evening Your Excellency, or Good Evening General Solidor, who had become a virtual household name in the Republic, everyone was extremely respectable.

Walking down the hallways, all that were far too recognizable to Sarah they finally reached the private balcony standing over left from the stage. The couch had been crafted in the 1700s and still had an aristocratic feel to the entire balcony. Sitting down the lights dimmed as the symphony began and she could not remove the smile that seemed to be stuck to her face.

Though Larsa had become entirely familiar to the building, it held a certain majesty on this night. "I think I like this place better when we aren't shooting at the bad guys." he quipped during a lull in the action. As the time went on, a feeling began welling up into Larsa until he had to let it out.

"Sarah, something has come up." he said, pausing only for a moment. "Elijah's father, the last Emperor of the Old Franzharian Empire, the one whom everyone, including myself, thought was killed by an assassin's hand over twenty years ago, is not so dead. Not only that, but I was among the first he revealed himself to.

Ranather Rukia, the man I once called Emperor has entrusted me with a task. I have been made to prepare Elijah for the time when he must face the reality of his father's continued existence. It is by far the most important task I have been thusfar entrusted with.

I am not sure if I am strong enough, I am barely older than Elijah myself, how can I possibly prepare a boy to meet his supposedly dead father? Ranather was, shall I say, a controversial person at the very least. A Martens disciple and enigmatic Monarch in his own right.

Am I ready? Is Franzharia ready?"

Sarah turned to him and gently laid her hand on his face. "You have to do what is right Larsa. I trust you are more than ready to do such a task, there will be nothing greater than to unite a father with his son, enigmatic." She paused. "Though not always the best quality for a leader shouldn't be anything to keep them from being together, and as for being a Martens disciple, Martens has been gone for a long time, his philosophies will be lost in the sands of history."

She leaned back. "But my question is what is going to happen to Elijah? Is Ranather going to become king through force or will he let his son hold the reigns of the nation? I think the biggest concern that anyone would have is that Ranather and Elijah have to cooperate with whatever occurs. But as for you Larsa, you have a strength that few people in the world have. I know that you can handle this task and that what ever you do will only lead to greater strength to Franzharia. I know you'll be ready to do this."

Larsa smiled as he listened to her words. "Your confidence in me means wonders to me. As for Lord Ranather, who presently disguised as the man Elric I am sure you have seen or met at one of the recent functions, I am not sure. I know that Ranather has deposed leaders in the past. There was a situation with foreign occupiers, Ranather and Martens personally deposed the Governor at the time.

He was the one largely responsible for Elijah's rise to the Throne. I am not believing that he would usurp his own son. I stand by Elijah in however he chooss to handle this situation."

"I would only expect you to. Your loyalty to the Franzharian state is unquestionable then and I'm sure with you guiding both of them of how to co-exist the situation will end extremely well." She thought for a moment. "When I talked to Lord Elric, I had no idea that he was the same man that I studied in my history books. When all this is said and done I would love to meet him personally, as Lord Rukia and not as Elric. Though Larsa, I am curious, how do you think Elijah will respond to all this? His father being alive and all?"

Larsa continued to smile, though a bit more weakly. "Elijah didn't even know this man was his father just a couple of months ago, it is a very delicate situation as I am sure you understand. But he has his father's poise and strength, I am not awfully worried, still I must make sure that I make the introduction as smooth as possible."

She took Larsa's hand in hers. "You'll do fine Larsa, you'll do just fine. But you have to relax, don't worry about anything happening across the border. You said in the limousine that you were looking for a grand evening away from the pressures of state, with the beautiful woman you love. Everything in Franzharia will be fine and I know you know that underneath the thoughts of uncertainty. We live in a chaotic world, but the chaos is only as we perceive it. Only because we are constantly reminded of the chaos. The world will always turn and everything works out in the end. I would want to hold on to that lesson that I learned in leadership above all others. We just must realize that our guidance only does so much, but like I said Larsa, you'll do the right thing."

The symphony continued on for the next two hours and received a standing ovation from everyone in the Hall. Slowly the crowd began to fill out, Larsa and Sarah arm linked, followed the crowd out to the street and towards the limousine that awaited them. Sarah looked back with bright eyes. "Are you still feeling okay Larsa?"

Larsa simply looked out at the city then Sarah and smiled.

"With everything that has happened, I'll be fine. It's as if destiny is now coming full circle. I'm humbled by the things that have happened, and that the people continue to put their trust in me. Even now, I have young families coming up to me and saying that I have made their lives possible.

And in you and your people, I have many more years worth of reasons to continue forward. Sarah, from the bottom of my heart, I love you, and I am grateful for all the ways you've helped me. Thank you."

"Larsa there is no need for you to tell me something that I already share with you with all my soul." She smiled as they went back into the limousine under the same quietness coming from the crowd as they walked through. The limousine ride back to the Diet was quiet, but Sarah kept Larsa's hand in her's tightly as if to continue to tell him that everything would be okay, no matter what happened. They arrived back at the Diet a little past one in the morning, the driver let them out and Larsa walked Sarah towards the great stairs leading up to the hall.

"Such a gentleman as always General Solidor." She smiled. "The evening was amazing." Sarah's eyes widened as she looked into his.

When Sarah and Larsa finally separated from one another it was as a transformation had taken place on both of them. The pressures of the state, of the Hansa, of Franzharia might have been wiped aside replaced by two people that were ever so normal, just trying to survive in the brutal chaotic world that Sarah had talked about hours earlier. She squeezed his hand once more then turned to the handle as an aide immediately opened the great door and beckoned her into the Diet. "Thank you for being my escort tonight Larsa, it was really great." She blushed turning inside. "I hope to see you again."

With that Lady Tintagyl turned into the marble hall as the aide shut the door behind her. Her smile returned to her face as she briskly walked back upstairs to her quarters. She was happy when she found she was alone and dropped back against the pillows. After getting back into more comfortable clothes she laid in the dark and realized how much work she had blown off, how many things would need to be caught up on for tomorrow. Truthfully, Sarah missed the feeling of being independent, she was after all a servant of the state. But every now and then the relief that Larsa gave her was bliss and her stress seemed to melt away.

As Sarah could feel her eyes closing, she wondered if it would ever come to the white dress on a gorgeous Sunday morning.

Larsa looked into her widened eyes, lifted her chin with his left finger, and pushed her hair aside with his right. Putting his heart on his sleeve and proceeded to kiss her.
