Azeri troops push deep in occupied Calilabad

Azeri forces pushed deeper into the Occupied territory on Monday with clashes reported in Calilabad City, southern Azerbaijan. The ground operation in the occupied territory came after days of heavy artillery fire exchange in what has become a full scale conflict between Azerbaijan and the self-declared Talysh-Mughan Republic. Smoke rises above Calilabad during the Azeri offensive to retake the city from Talysh control. Both sides have reported casualties. Earlier, the Azerbaijani army said 30 of its soldiers had been wounded in the ground offensive, two of them seriously. Talysh medical officials said at least 19 Talysh had been killed in the Azeri incursion.

The Azeri and Talysh delegations late Sunday failed to agree on a statement calling for an immediate ceasefire in Talyshstan in the wake of Azerbaijan's operation to retake control of Calilabad. Wearing camo uniforms and camouflage paint on their faces, Azerbaijani soldiers flanked by columns of tanks entered the densely populated area in the night.

The Estovakia Imperium advises the Azeri to keep pushing onwards as clearly you seem to have the upper hand and it would be foolish to stop now.

OOC: Look at Iraq and Israel IRL. Even after the wars are done, the regions are still embroiled in chaos. Peace between the two factions is the only lasting way.

"The Union of Eastern Soviet Republics condemns this move by the Azeri government. Peace talks are the only way to end a conflict such as this, as with each kill, especially those of civilians, adds even more to rebel numbers."

-Administrator Nevsky

Today, protests against the Azeri's moves in Talyshstan broke out in many major cities around the Union, including Sofia, Bucharest, Plovdiv and Belgrade. Protest leaders were received by Territorial Governors, who empowered and supported their speeches.

We urge the world community to place Azerbaijan under economic sanctions, the Azeri's must be forced to the peace table. The Philippines would also be willing to commit troops to act as peacekeeping troops to keep the two warring sides apart if the world community agree's.

"Members of the Parliament, Citizens of Azerbaijan

I wish to send condolences, on my behalf and on behalf of the Government, the Parliament and the entire nation, to the families of the killed civilian and Azeri soldiers. Yes, we are a nation which counts its dead. We count the dead daily, pained by their passing, and grieving for each and every one of them, because each of them has a family, each of them is an entire world. Each of them, as with each of us, wanted to live a normal life, like anyone. And for that desire, for that right, we have fought for almost months already; we fought for the last month, and unfortunately, we will have to continue fighting for many months to come. I wish a speedy recovery to the injured, Azeri soldiers and civilians.

I also take this opportunity to express gratitude and appreciation, on behalf of the people of Azerbaijan, to the Chief of General Staff, Azeri Army commanders, the soldiers in the regular army and in the reserves; to those thousands, who even now are endangering themselves, displaying supreme courage, in the struggle against a cruel enemy, in a struggle which is the most just and moral. I wish to thank the members of the security and rescue forces, the heads of local authorities and their staff, the thousands of volunteers who acted in full coordination with government offices, to all those who mobilized – also from parties in this house, on all fronts. And above all, I salute the residents of the South – you, through your great devotion, patience and stamina, are the essential component in the strength of the State of Azerbaijan.

Approximately two month ago, the Government approved the Military operation against the Talysh Popular Front terrorists – following an act of terror, during which volleys of Grad missiles were fired on communities in the South, killing dozens civilians. The overall responsibility for this operation rested on me as President and Commander in Chief. I have no intention of sharing, nor do I ask to share this responsibility with anyone. This responsibility derives from my position as President of the Azerbaijani Republic.

The decision by the Government of Azerbaijan not to ignore the situation, echoed, and will continue to echo in world capitals both near and far. It clarified to all peoples and nations that the Azerbaijani Nation would not absorb any more attacks on its sovereignty and would not restrain itself anymore when its citizens were harmed. Furthermore, it would respond with force to any act of terror, from the north or the south, from the west or from the sea. Anywhere.

We order the Talysh Popular Front to free those 150 Azeri women and children kidnapped on December 31 in Yardimly's Town elementary school, we sent a 48 hours ultimatum. A failed liberation of the Hostages will result in far stronger and more intense airstrikes on the region's infrastructure and industrial capacity. We negotiated with empty terrorist leaders so far, and we will not let a terrorist organization run the Talysh-Mughan region, historically under Azerbaijani administration since the Turkish, then Byzantine colonization. We will keep fighting for our safety and our independence, we will not give up to the Talysh terrorists.

That's all"

Talyshstan and Azerbaijan traded fierce barrages for a second month today, as the latest eruption of warfare in the the secessionist repulic of Talysh-Mughan showed no sign of easing. Rockets struck deep inside Azerbaijan, killing eight people in Pushkino, and Azeri planes bombed Talyshstan from north to south. Azerbaijani Tomahawk missiles hammered the Talysh capital this morning, killing two people in Lakran's airport, bombing a gas tank in a northern neighborhood and shelling the southern suburbs.

The airport was in flames, and the Azeri army said it had launched at least 20 strikes in the morning, both with aircraft and artillery. The strikes today killed 15 people and wounded more than 50 by midmorning. The death toll rose to more than 30 — at least 30 in Talyshstan and 3 in Azerbaijan. In addition to the Azeri victims at a rail repair facility in the Calilabad attack few days ago, an Azeri rocket blew up a Talysh army position, killing eight soldiers. Azerbaijan warned of massive retaliation after the occupation of Calilabad. Civilians began to flee by the hundreds and several Red Cross transports arrived to organize evacuation for any of the Azeris seeking to leave.

The Talysh rocket barrage on Pushkino risks to provoke more retaliation from Azerbaijan. Witnesses report another tank division is massing at the border.

We don't think it's a good idea, due to the diplomatic incident occured between Dagestan and Estovakia on Monday 26, January, our allies wouldn't be happy to see Estovakian troops near the border. We thank your offer tought.

Signed

We urge both sides to agree to a cessation of hostilities.

==Classified message from the Yuktobanian Congress to Azerbaijani government==

We are willing to send a small team of Spetsnaz soldiers if you need any support. The prime minister has stated a cessation only to improve public relations. However, we are acting so to see if there is any connection between the Talysh and the Grey Men who attack several days ago.

Our intelligence doesen't confirm any international activities of the Talysh Popular Front, in the far east. Tought our war doctrine strictly avoids foreign troops on our national soil, as we do not recognize the Talysh-Mughan Republic, we consider Talyshstan part of our national territory. We thank your offer, but we must decline it.

Signed
