The Search beneath the Ocean

After the various crews were brought aboard, their weapons cataloged the bays were closed, pressurized.. and the submarine headed back to the ocean floor where it sat, waiting further orders. In the mean time, the Dragon Empire tank had found its way to the bottom entry hatch and made its way into the dome.. to start studying. Air content was verified to see if it was breathable.

The squad and their commander, not being needed for anything at the moment, and despite assurances, hovered near the place where their weapons were stored. They used the excuse that if they were needed, they could quickly access the weapons and respond to whatever threat there was before anyone else.

The weapons and a weapons officer were moved to the Air Lock where they could be issued when teams were prepared to leave for the exploration. The weapons officer, being in the air lock, wore scuba equipment for when the air lock would fill. All the weapons were put into air-tight containers so that they would not be flooded underwater. The containers were simple plastic vacuum bags.

Other than the usual military issue clothing Kaan's gear was comprised of a massive ammount of shotgun ammuntion, about half the bag full of it, for all the types, taken by the Dragonisians, only a few pre-loaded wheels of revolver ammo, also taken by the Dragonisians, and a box of one use syringe capped packets marked only as "A" "B" "C". He had handed it all over without the need of inspection, and had even laid out every piece of clothing, opened every box, and pre-turned out every pocket.

Lena had only the the standard military level ammution for her sidearm, which she had begrudgingly turned over to the Dragonisians. She had watched it go into the airlock. To her, an officer without a sidearm was worthless, especially a lieutenant. She had thought that hiding the bayonet blade in a roll of spare undergarments might of kept it safe, but, when the Dragonisian had searched the bag without a second thought, that hope was dashed.

Tim had given the most fuss of the Dranaggans. Though he didn't have any weapons he had argued with the crew about going around and poking in all his luggage. When they had searched, vigorously, anyway, and under threat of the brig, his already gloomy mood had turned completely sour. He sulked around the cargo bay trying to re-pack his tossed out luggage.

Over the intercom the captain would announce.

"All crews seeking to explore the ruins need to get prepped and moved to the forward deployment bay and prep for deep water, high pressure environments. We do have an aqualung on board in the event someone catches the bends, but please be careful and remember to take the proper time in the bay when you are returning to decompress as per our safety manual's requirements. We do apologize for anyone who feels intruded upon by our tight security, but it is as much for your safety as for ours. You will each be issued a radio to communicate with us, if you come into trouble we will try to help, but keep in mind the situation you are gong to is high risk, you are putting your lives on the line in this environment, so take extra precautions."

In the mean time, the Dragon Empire tank had found its way to the bottom entry hatch and made its way into the dome.. to start studying. Air content was verified to see if it was breathable.

It was noticed the hatch was locked. Since the turret couldn't turn around fully to the front due to the crab pincers the engineer had put on the front of the tank, the tank turned sideways and aimed its gun at the door. They water sealed the gun and evacuated the loading chamber of any liquid and fed it an AP round. The cannon was then flushed with fresh-water and within seconds after the flushing, the ap round was fired at the hatch to the dome at where they believed the locking mechanism would be. As soon as the round left the barrel, it re-sealed and pressure again evacuated the barrel of water. Then the crew opened the gun from the loading chamber and cleaned it out thoroughly of sea-salt with a brush.. then re-lubricated it. The process took far longer than typical land firing, about 5 minutes just for one shell.

Then then rolled up to the hatch and attempted to push it open with the treads.

Stokan prep'ed his gear. He had no weapons, but still opened up to the weapons check. Kalmerg moved to the front of the Searchers and Miltiary for a final brief:

"Ok, people, two things before we go. One, this city may be older than anything we know about, so watch your step. Two, this volcano is supposed to be dormant, but anything can happen. If we say go, then you GO! Alright?"

Stokan walked to the bridge, then to the Captain. "Hello, I'm Stokan Winfield, Field Commander of the Search." Shakes hands, "GTI believes that entering the crack will be the best option for this many people. Our pre-mission crews found that there is a large chamber inside, and several locked doors. Perhaps even we can get the submarine close to that to limit the distance...

-------------------

As these events took place, unknown to them, the ancient city-sized Bombshelter's electronic silent alarms were going off as the Thermal Power-station powered itself back on. The city's indoor lights were activated, the defense system powered up, and radar activated. The system then reconized several submarines & an intruder, and deactivated the Cyro pod. Alarms rang thought the abandoned streets, and the system found that only 20 of 400 units were battle-ready (thus activating the repair Depo to repair them). An Atlantian entered the control room from Cyro, wondering where the others were. He noticed that the floor was tilted, but disreguared it in favor of wondering what year it is.

There were several types of these defensive 'bots. Some were small, 9-foot robots, others giant tanks taking up the entire street and crushing any smaller vehicle that wasn't moved. 16 small 'bots, one large 'bot, and three air drones were in good condition. They remained dormant, however, untill an Atlantian activated them from the Control.

OOC: I was thinking that the Atlantis bomb-shelter/city is at a slight angle on the Volcano.

"SIR, Yes, SIR!" each man chorused, prepped and ready to go...

OOC: :awesome:

As a OOC history note, for this RP, the ye old Atlantians were always getting into wars & disreguared the Environment with one massive city & never thought long-term. So the world got angry, got the newly-invented (but late, with 2040 tech) Hydrogen Bombs and blew the !@#$ out of Atlantis (and the Atlantians). Only thier bombshelter survived, but never investigated because of the aftermath (killing almost all of humanity & reset to caveman). :P

The massive Imperial Hostile Environment Exploration Armor (IHEE) was a gigantic piece of machinery. Each of its' component parts was vital to the welfare of the whole, from the amazingly efficient Fuel-Cell power source in the back to the Highly specialized multiple camera system which fed the soldier his information. It took much specialized training to be able to monitor several feeds at once.

When the Lieutenant heard the call-up for the forward observation bay, he smiled to himself and quickly marched back to his bunk. The traditional clothing of Imperial Troops was replaced by the powered Exoskeleton. He was confident that its' firepower and sensor capabilities would see him return in one piece.

(OOC: No fusion back-pack. Extremely efficient power-cells; must be replaced once every 80 Miles.)

"Exploration teams stand ready... make sure you double check your scuba gear. T Minus 15 minutes until we begin flooding and pressurization."

Out of habit more than anything, the troopers obeyed that order, checking to make sure everything was in place. oxygen supply, helmets, etc. It was all in working order.

The Lieutenant smirked unseen inside the suit when he noticed the looks being given to him. The damned thing was about as fast as an average man's run, burdened down with equipment. It was a direct result of the power-supply problems; using more power would let it go faster but consume Fuel-Cells at an alarming rate. He noted the intercom announcement and checked all systems.

He was ready to go.

Tim was nervous of the rising water. He was a geologist. Earth, rock, soil. Not damned sea water. It didn't help that army girl was going to have her gun back either. He knew she was here to watch him, and who knows what else she had been instructed to do.

Lena meanwhile was quite enjoying the prospect of swimming under the waves of the ocean. Swimming was almost unheard of in Dranagg. It was all small indoor, heated, pools that had to be used on rotation. Most of the public never bothered with learning how to swim, but the army thought it prudent to include at least a basic course. Should you ever fall into the Antarctic Ocean and need rescue in 30 seconds you won't sink.

Kaan looked like he always looked. Rather bland and expressionless. The only evidence that he wasn't just taking a standing nap was a glance at the armoured beast near by, and a slight muttering. "Damn thing is going to fall over somewhere."

The Corporal and his men were motionless, waiting for the compartment to fill. They'd been trained in many sorts of combat evironments. Underwater was just one more for them, though someone had forgotten to equip them with appropriate weapons; the only things they could really use underwater were their knives...

OOC: Sorry I ain't posted, dooooof

however, I am slightly confused

what the hell has happened?

OOC: Basically, we've all been briefed that we are in fact exploring what is believed to be Atlantis. We've been trnasferred to a Dragonisian sub, where all weapons were taken away until we are ready to be deployed on a mission. Right now, we're in the forward bay in scuba gear, ready and waiting for the compartment to fill with water before we do anything...

Michael and Sarah blinked as they waited for the water to rise. He had been stripped of his weapons, making him feel naked, and Sarah was in scuba gear that made her feel constricted, making her feel naked. Both of them looked awkwardly at the others in the forward bay, smiling beneath their gear. Jordan was thinking blankly of how stupid it was to be stripped of his weapons; Sarah, thinking about the other people on the trip and how silly it was that they thought of Atlantis.

Corporal Flint and his men couldn't care less whether it was Atlantis or simply some volcanic bubble. Either way, they were still there to ensure the eggheads and explorers didn't get themselves killed doing something stupid.

Researcher Bruschetti, not being part of the initial exploration team, made a nuisance of herself by constantly loitering around the monitoring stations where the teams progress was being followed. Eventually the duty officer in charge ordered her to leave, but she managed to slip back in by bringing snacks and cups of coffee to the operators, while simultaneously bombarding them with questions. It was plain to see she could hardly wait to get a look at the artifacts and information the advance team would surely be returning with soon.

Once the forward bay was filled, the officer opened the weapons lock and handed out weapons as tagged appropriately.. and slowly, but surely the nose compartment of the submarine would slowly open as it had for the Sea-Tyrant tank that was already deployed. Before them.. sat "the bubble."
