Constantinople, Federal District, Byzantium - Concerning the recent pirate threats associated with the nation of Ardonia, Leader John Kelikark signed a bill. Under the Anti-Piracy Act, any and all Andonian ships found in and/or near Byzantine waters shall be sunk (although civilian and commerce vessels might be detained indefinitely). Constantinople, Federal District, Byzantium - Today, Leader John Kelikark signed into law the Referendum Act. The Act, ratified by the Meclis, stipulated that issues of national concern be submitted to Byzantine citizens for public consideration by popular referendum. This, apparently, was an attempt by Kelikark to further 'modernize' the country by making Byzantium appear 'less arbitrary' in the world's eyes. This also fit in with the principles of the current National Movement in Byzantium. However, Kelikark still retained the right to make decrees and the like.

It is Andonia, not Ardonia.

Constantinople, Federal District, Byzantium - Today, at Kelikark's initiative, the Meclis declared the state of martial law to be lifted, thus 'transferring' Byzantium to the basis of civil administration and jurisdiction. Only a few selected areas remained under martial law: Crete, the Ioanian Islands, the Dodecanese, and the Astrakhan region, among others. Also, the curfew was relaxed to a certain extent, taking effect only after 8pm.

Ankara, Ankara Region, Byzantium - A government survey reveals that an astonishing total of 80,000 employees and nearly 300,000 informers are working in the Guvelnik, especially for the Gizli Polis and the Orgutu -- and that number is steadily growing.

Samsun, Samsun Region, Byzantium - With millions and millions of funding, and effort, the ports of Samsun was largely built. Destroyed during the 'Nationalist Revolution', the docks of Samsun are now ready for civilian and military use.

Constantinople, Federal District, Byzantium - Today, Leader John Kelikark signed a law. Ratified this time by the Meclis, the National Protective and Tariff Act essentially 'sanctioned' the existing programme in place. Apparently to protect domestic companies, and to put pressure on foreign ones, a 30% "protective" tax is now placed on most imports -- except these from the Union of Eastern Soviet Republics, United Francoist Empire, Dilberian Empire, Dragon Empire, and the Imperium of America.

Erzurum, Erzurum Region, Byzantium - It's going good so far. Both the programmes of reconstruction and national defense are now in full-swing. With millions and millions of funds pouring in from Constantinople, workers are now devoting efforts full-time to their jobs, reconstructing cities, improving infrastructure, and furthering national defense. The cities of southern Byzantium, once ravaged by the 'War', are now looking better and vibrant. New houses and buildings are being erected, streets are being constructed and/or rebuilt, bridges and power lines are being repaired, among so many others.

On a related note, workers are nearing completion of the first 'defensive line' on the Byzantine borders (except these with the UESR), putting the finishing touches on bunkers, fortifications, walls, barbed wire, and others. Once they are completed, work on the second, more extensive line would begin and so on.

OOC: True, but it would throw you into turmoil, and besides, will plausible deniability work with evidence of at least six seperate occasions, and obvious indications in the recordings that there were other incidences? ;) At least some people will wonder.

OOC: Hm, we could still pass it off as "isolated" actions by "overzealous" commanders. :P

IC:

Sukhum, Tiflis Region, Byzantium - Demonstrations by protestors in the streets of Sukhum (formerly Sukhumi and Sebastopolis) that broke out yesterday as "grievances against Nationalist rule" were quelled by Orgutu troops today. The protestors, wielding the banners of 'a free, democratic, and sovereign Abkhazia', were fired upon and attacked by Orgutu troops wielding 'truncheons, tear gas canisters, and the like'. Mass arrests were made as the protestors were beaten to the ground and hauled off 'somewhere'. Law and order were quickly imposed.

However, Leader John Kelikark publicly condemned this 'oppression of the right to self-determination', saying that the Byzantine people has the inalienable right to express their wishes that will be influenced through government. "You cannot crush that spirit." Kelikark stated in a public announcement to the nation today. "Thus, I suggest that the Government of Sukhum reform their policies toward the people."

Kelikarkhan, Stavropol Region, Stavropol Republic, Byzantium - To show the 'advent' of the City of Astrakhan under Byzantine rule, President Dmitry Kuzmin signed into law a "Proposition Concerning the City of Astrakhan". Under the Proposition, Astrakhan was renamed Kelikarkhan, the second city to be named after the Leader himself. "This is a honor, indeed." Kelikark stated in a press statement upon receiving the news.

After this law was made public, and other unconfirmed reports reached the government of Ile de Noir, it has been decided to reciprocate with a 30% tax on all Byzantine products or goods shipped by Byzantine companies. Ile de Noir has further recalled their Embassy staff in preparation of closing it permanently. Ile de Noir will not break relations with Byzantium at this time, but has issued a travel advisory to it's citizens that they enter Byzantine territory at their own risk.

In accordance to their 'mirror policy', Byzantium shall reciprocate by withdrawing its Embassy staff from Ile de Noir in time -- although we shall not break relations with them unless they do it first. In addition, all Ile de Noir businesses in the country has been nationalized without compensation. The State Ministry has forbidden Byzantine citizens to visit Ile de Noir, stating that it is a "dangerous place to visit at this time of the year."

Constantinople, Federal District, Byzantium - With the conclusion of the Nationalist revolution and war months ago, there were three railroad corporations in Byzantium: the Byzantine State Railways, Greek Railways, and the Georgian State Railways. But despite being nationalized by the Government, the corporations virtually functioned independently from the other, resulting into corruption, mismanagement, and congestion as lack of funds made it nearly impossible to properly sustain and maintain the railways industry.

So, to deal with that problem, the National Party passed a bill today. Signed into law by Leader John Kelikark, the National Railways Act asserted Government prevalence over the industry by establishing a ’federal commission’ to overlook the industry. The State Railways Commission (SRC), as it was called, was tasked with the maintenance and control of the industry as to coordinate the corporations together. For this effect, the Government brought over eighty percent of shares in each corporation, assuring decisive control over their affairs.

With control assured, the three corporations were combined by the Government into a single amalgamation, the Byzantine National Railways (BNR). At the request of the SRC, as many as 60 millions in funds were invested to shore up the industry.

The Byzantine railway system was given an overhaul, and with new routes proposed and built. Over time, new railways would crisscross all over Byzantium -- and the system would be fully connected and coordinated.

Currently, there are no plans to extend the Byzantine National Railways system into the Stavropol Republic at this moment.

Salonika, Athens Region, Byzantium - For unknown reasons, the Government has placed the border guards on "shoot-to-kill" orders. From now on, anyone caught trying to enter the country (or otherwise crossing the border) through illegal means shall be shot without warning. The border with the UESR is excluded.

Constantinople, Federal District, Byzantium - Leader John Kelikark signed into law the Police Labels Act. Under the Act, all police and Gizli Polis vehicles are to be unlabeled. They shall not have any labels, symbols, and the like that identify them as such.

Athens, Athens Region, Byzantium - Today, the Meclis passed a bill. Signed into law by Leader John Kelikark, the Greek Status Act mandated the following:

  • The repudiation of the Greek Devletin.
  • The Turkish language was to be made mandatory in Greek schools, with Greek being secondary language.
  • Turkish was to be a state language, for administrative purposes, instead of Greek.
  • The incorporation of the 'Home Army' into the Byzantine Army.

Constantinople, Federal District, Byzantium - A bill was passed through the Meclis and signed into law by Leader John Kelikark today. The National Security Act, de-jure, granted the Gizli Polis and Orgutu "extensive powers and rights" to 'conduct mass-surveillance in the interest of maintaining national security'. Under the new Act, the Gizli Polis is allowed, in addition of monitoring the Internet, to monitor and keep records of telephone (including mobile and phone) communications, emails, text messages, all financial transactions, and many others.

In addition, security measures and devices were instituted in both urban areas and the countrysides, beginning with the major cities and towns. With millions and millions of funding from the Government, closed-circuit security cameras were established in most, if not all, buildings, public areas, public transportation networks, and as such. A network of roadside cameras was established all over the country, and connected to plate recognition networks. More extensive means are also being instituted.

A 'door-lock' system was also established in all cities, towns, and villages as a means of "extending national security". Most, if not all, buildings (especially apartments) were fixed with door-lock device that functions to prevent unauthorized access. Citizens are required, under the new law, to apply for an 'access card' that would enable them to enter and leave the premises.

Constantinople, Federal District, Byzantium - Today, the Kingdom of Viniland had deported around 198 Byzantine citizens from Brasilia. As the planes descended upon Constantinople International Airport, it was expected that they would be dealt justice. As the 'criminals' filed out of the planes into the armored Gizli Polis trucks, the Government dispatched a telegram to the Vinilandese Government, thanking for its assistance and support. "It shall never be forgotten." Leader John Kelikark stated in a press statement today upon hearing of the news. "This shall go down in history, indeed."

***Classified***

Yes, the 'criminals' would be dealt justice, allright -- but not in the way expected. As the 'prisoners' were driven out from the airport, the trucks suddenly turned right, entering through an intersection. After several turns, and some time, the trucks passed through a heavily-fortified military checkpoint. They were at a clearing somewhere in the outskirts of Constantinople.

There, the prisoners would be taken out, lined up, and shot. The site was quickly cleaned up and covered up. The world would never know of that. This was Byzantium's final vengeance.
