First Clinics in the Country Open!

Today, a string a clinics opened throughout the TriCity area, numbering six in total. This is definately a relief to everyone, as the only medical care that has been available at all has been traditional medicines. This is a great welcome to the entire nation, as it will surely advance our levels of health care and raise the life expectancy, which currently stands at 45.

One of the new clinics, opened in the heart of Karachi.

Although there are now fully functioning clinics, there is a severe lack of doctors and nurses to man them, due to the absence of any schools in the country. The government has put out advertisements to medical schools all over the world, offering free housing and a generous bonus to any doctor or nurse who will work in Marscurian Pakistan.

Upon recieving notification of the offer, several thousand medical personel decided to take up the offer to work in Marscurian Pakistan.

OOC: Feel free to RP (or not, if you wish) their acceptance into the system.

Doctors Arrive!

Masses of people were at the TriCities International Airport, celebrating the arrivals of the first modern doctors in Marscurian Pakistan. Thousands of people arrived on dozens of planes, and were escorted to their living arrangements. While they walked to the buses, flowers were thrown at their feet and many people tried to break through police barricades to hug the new arrivals.

When asked about the experience, one young doctor had this to say:

I can't believe that all of this is just for us. I came here to see the world and work in some place new, but this is just astounding. I feel like I will truly make a difference here.

New Environmental Laws Take Effect. Mass Exodus!

Today, several of the Sultan's new environmental laws took effect. A main law has to do with fishing in the Indus River. Many fisherman have been forced to end fishing in parts of the river that have been declared "Environmental Sanctuaries" for endangered species such as the Indus River Dolphin and Sindh Crocodile. At the same time, fish stocks in the Arabian Sea are dropping due to overfishing by other nations. With this mix of events, many fishermen have left Marscurian Pakistan in search of better waters.

From Karachi:

Country Recieves Uranium. Clueless of what to do with it.

Today, a ship carrying a shipment of unprocessed uranium ore has unloaded its cargo. Currently, officials don't know what to do with the shipment. Currently, they plan to either sell it, or use it for paperweights.

OOC: I lost fish in a trade, so I rped that. I also gained uranium, but with no nuclear power plant or weapons, I can't really use it for anything.

Material Supply Stops, Economy In Danger!

Two days ago, the major supplies of iron, steel and rubber ceased their shipments into the port of Karachi. This terrible news puts the entire Marscurian Pakistan industrial machine in great peril. We have already received word that resources have been halted to both Karakoram Motors and MNMW and diverted to other sources. Marscurian Military Works and MAMW are both running severly under capacity, and many infrastructure projects, notably the road link to the Dragon Empire in the North face being canceled. Unless supplies are restored, the country faces a severe recession.

A bridge in the road system in the Northern Territories leading into the Dragon Empire. It has had its resources stopped and it faces an uncertain future.

OOC: I lost Iron and Rubber IG, so I'm losing them here too.

Growing Tensions in the NWT. Armed Rebellion Breaks Out!

Just noted this morning, a Waziri independence group calling themselves the Waziri Independence Army has attacked several army convoys. The group is still rumored to be small, under 1,000 members, but are still armed and dangerous. Thousands of people fleeing the violence have moved into refugee camps near the territorial capital of Islamabad. Several divisions of the Army and Air Force are being mobilized into the area, and the violence is expected to end soon.

Sultan Calls Out For Business

With stores of iron ore and rubber reaching an all time low, the country drifts perilously close to a recession. The Sultan himself has personally sent a call to all companies around the world to begin exports. Fair prices for the materials will be assured.

OOC: I re-acquired the resources IG, now I just need them here.

Strange Construction on Indus River

They began arriving late last week. Over 500 construction workers and dozens of pieces of heavy machinery set up camp on the Eastern bank of the Indus River, south of the territorial capital of Moloco. The workers have fenced off a substantial piece of land, almost 1 square mile in size. The purpose for all the work is unknown, however, we are assured that the construction project is government related, but not related to the military. Our crew riding on boats down the river snapped these pictures of the work.

Country has an Heir! Almost

Today, the Sultan and Sultana visited one of the new clinics in the TriCity area for an ultrasound on the unborn child. The tests showed that the child was a boy and was in good health. The couple have not chosen a name, as they will wait for the actual birth before deciding.

Fire in The Sultan's Palace! 2 Killed, Dozens Hurt!

Early this morning, a fire broke out on the top floor of the Sultan's Palace. It is unknown at what exact time the blaze started, but the smoke detectors went off at around 9:00 am, and the whole palace was evacuated by 9:15. Unfortunately, two maintenance worker where trapped in an elevator, which was stopped by the fire. Their cause of death has been deemed "smoke inhalation." The blaze quickly spread throughout the building, which was deemed beyond repair after the fire was put out after several hours. The building is deemed to be demolished as quickly as possible, so a new palace may be constructed. The cause of the fire is unknown. The palace was just recently constructed, so a faulty wire could have caused the fire, but investigators are also looking into the possibility of a terrorist attack. Several groups are being looked into, such as Waziri nationalist groups seeking revenge for the defeat of the Waziri Independence Army, or Communist groups who may feel threatened by the Sultan's anti-communist stance.

We thank you for the offer, but this is a national problem, and we will only become stronger by overcoming it as a nation.

First Schools Open Across the Nation!

Today, the first of a wide network of schools opened across the country. These schools were opened in the TriCity area, but the Sultan has mandated that all population centers with at least 500 people will receive a school in their area. If a smaller area wishes for a school, they simply need to petition for one, and a small tax increase will pay for it. The schools will be paid for with taxes and free night classes will be offered for working adults who wish to learn. The schools are only elementary schools, but a rigid curriculum has been designed. For all incoming students, the following are education requirements to graduate:

-Fluency and literacy in the 3 official languages of the country, English, Urdu and Yiddish

-Ability to preform the 4 basic functions of Mathematics (Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division)

-Adequate knowledge of the history of both Marscurian Pakistan and the Marscurian Empire

-Ability to read a map, plot longitudes and latitudes, and know the basic geography of Marscurian Pakistan

-Basic knowledge in various sciences

While no official teachers have been trained, wealthier citizens who have had the privilege of a private tutor have taken jobs at the schools. The full network of schools is expected to be completed in several months.

Safe Rivers Act Goes Into Effect!

Today, the Safe Rivers Act, which regulates boats on the Indus River and it's tributaries went into effect. The goal of the law is to maintain the water quality of the river and to protect the animals in it, specifically the Bhulan, or Indus River Dolphin, which is a protected species. The law has four basic regulations.

1. In sections of the river, various navigation channels have been marked. These are for the safety of both people and animals. Leaving the designated channel in the marked areas will result in large fines.

2. The release of ballast seawater into the Indus River is strictly forbidden. All seawater that is planned to be released must be released before entering the river.

3. The use of propellers on vessels larger than 30 feet is forbidden. This is to save the lives of the wildlife in the river. If a large vessel wishes to enter the river, it must do so under sail power. If a shipping company is too poor to afford sails, they may ask for a subsidy.

4. The release of toxic materials into the river is strictly forbidden. Such materials include, but are not limited to gasoline and diesel fuel, motor oil, lubricants, paint and cleaning solutions. This is to keep the river habitable for wildlife and to maintain the water at acceptable quality for irrigation and drinking.

While many have criticized the plan for harming the economy of the country, the Sultan insists that keeping the Indus River clean is a national priority.

Troop Mobilizations!

Today, the 131st and 132nd Mountain Divisions have been mobilized to combat Communist rebels in the Antarctican nation of Kitex. The divisions, numbering around 2,000 men, were chosen due to their experience fighting in snowy environments and below-freezing temperatures. They will travel with a substantial amount of weapons and ammunition, including several mortars. Five Bactrian Attack Helicopters are also accompanying the soldiers on their mission. The air force is hoping to send 5 MPGAA-10's but is unable to without allowing the planes to stop and refuel in foreign countries. We offer our support and prayers to the troops.

Mysterious Construction Revealed, Country Will Receive Second Port!

The mysterious construction south of Moloco has been revealed this afternoon. After the construction spread for a mile in each direction, angry residents demanded to know what was being built, and city officials announced that the construction is for a small port on the Indus River. Due to the nature of the traffic the port will receive, officials have named it The Moloco Sailport, as only sailing vessels can enter the river.

The first prince of Sultan Mikhail was born today in a health center in Karachi. This caused stirs because it was the first time in almost 400 years that a royal was not born in the capital. On a special edition of Marscurian News, the Sultan himself gave the announcement:

We would like to thank everyone who gave us their well wishes. Several days ago, our son had his Bris Milah, and we gave him his name. In accordance to our laws, the son is always named by the KaiserMelech, while the daughter is named by the KaiserinMelcha. Well, since those positions no longer exist, we have decided that I shall give the boy his first name, while his middle will be supplied by his mother. Well, tonight I announce to you Meyer Ali Stein, Prince of Marscurian Pakistan.

Royal Marscurian Bank Fractures!

Today, the Royal Bank of Marscury fractured into 5 smaller banks. When asked about why the move occured, the CEO of the bank stated that the company had simply become too large and inefficient and was at risk of collapsing under its own weight. The smaller banks, each centered in a different territory, will maintain strong ties with each other, but are all completely independent. Only time will tell if this move will be positive.

Centered in Karachi, the Royal Bank of The Coastal Territories will be the largest of the 5 and retain most of the original leadership.

The Royal Bank of The Central Territories is the second largest of the 5 and will also have existing structure to build on.

The Royal Bank of The Northern Territories will be built in North Khyber and will be the third largest. Despite the small population of the Northern Territories, and the lack of any previous banks, the territories are the 3rd most developed.
