OOC: While I already have a news-thread, I realize that I need a thread into which I can put basic RPs such as sending spaceshuttles to the moon or fleet-movements. Comments on non-classified stuff is encouraged, and classified things can get OOC-comments, I don't mind. Just don't derail my thread.

IC:

**Classified**

In response to BlackKnight stationing almost their entire army on the african westcoast, a carrier battlegroup was sent to the Canary islands and the troops were put into Defcon 3. The mainland's forces are put into Defcon 4.

**Non-classified**

Recently, the saboria spaceport in the east of the nation has been quite active, and for a good reason: The Emperor wants to send Saborian astronauts to the moon.

Currently, rockets are being prepared to send probes to Bob's natural satellite, and astronauts are being trained for actually landing on the moon and spending at least one earth-day on it.

Promised Land wishs to inquire...when a manned mission is finally sent, we can send one or more scientists with the expedition.

While it certainly is possible to let foreign scientists with the astronauts, we would prefer the first missions to be purely Saborian. Further missions can be multi-national, although each of the non-Saborian participants will have to go through the same tests, training, et cetera as Saborian astronauts and scientists.

Perfectly understandable. We thank you for allowing them the opportunity on the later missions.

The Imperium of America, pending your multinational missions, would like to send our own representative if so allowed.

OOC: :D

This is no problem at all. Just know that, as the Promised Land-scientists, your men will have to do the same training as our men.

Be noted that it is quite rigurous, although not (yet) breaking any human rights.

Only minutes ago, a spaceshuttle has been sent into space. While it will not land on the moon, it will circle it for three days, making detailed maps of our planet's companion.

Within the next days, several probes will be sent to find out a good location for landing.

Merely being physically fit is not the only prerequisite for being able to go into space. The training for any 'newbie' can take anywhere between nine and eighteen months, depending not only on health, but also the mental state and their prowess with the necessary systems. We require every astronaut to be capable of landing a shuttle on his own, and this will include foreign and Saborian scientists.

We are aware of this. However, on the list of pros and cons, it is one check in the "Pro" column.

It is good that you are aware of this.

However, as you may know, Saboria has, some time ago, implemented policies similar to that of the Uberstein Empire, and as such, the scientists you send will, while living here, have to obey our laws, restrictions, et cetera. But that should be obvious. The scientists may thus miss a few of the rights they were used to in a non-Ubersteinian nation. However, we believe that they will have no problems, should they be thinking rationally, as it is expected from scientists.

Yes, we know, and so do they. Those with any religious or political beliefs contrary to Ubersteinism will keep them to themselves, and they will respect your laws.

This is good to know, and we thank you for this open-ness.

Announcement

We hereby reserve the right to not let a nation participate in a spaceflight without having to state a reason for our decision.

The first nations affected by this are Tahoe, Neo Japan and the Imperium of America.

OOC:The first two are completely random. :awesome:

IoA due to the territory they have right south of Saboria. Me no like. D=

The Republic would like to send an esteemed author on a Saborian trip. He would, of course, have to be trained by you and follow your laws, but it would be a grand way for the world to see space - from the eyes of a 'civilian' and just an author.

ooc: Kinda like a guest, like the school-teacher woman.

This will likely be no problem.

Important announcement

The Emperor has decided only hours ago that the Spaceport shall be expanded for capabilities of serving up to five shuttles at once, instead of only a single one.

The expansion itself may cost as much as 5.4 billion, while the construction of ten new space shuttles will cost 3.2 billion. Construction will begin within the month, the expansion of the spaceport taking approximately 18 months, while the space shuttles will take only 13 months.

**Classified: Armed Forces report**

As the transport of the formerly Garretian citizens is complete, the carrier-groups and transports that participated are being called back home.

Defcon is lowered to 4 in the entire nation, including the Canary Islands. The carrier group is called back home.

Currently, 5 carrier groups are near the mainland, one stationed in the Uberstein Empire.

The Saborian Navy consists of 56 ships.

Of the 1,473,600 soldiers, 10,000 are on the Canary Islands, the rest in military bases at home. Our men are excellently trained, and there are few single nations in the world that could stand up to them.

Of the 7,120 tanks, 200 are on the Canary Islands, the rest in military bases at home. There is a total of 5,120 Leopard 2A7 tanks, 1,000 Prussian Tiger III tanks, 1,000 tanks of the Uberstein Vessla series.

Of the 85 airplane-squadrons, three are stationed on the Canary Islands, the rest in bases at home.

In each squadron are 18 fighters or bombers, making a total of 1530 military planes. 20 Bomber-squadrons and 65 Fighter-squadrons.

We possess 50 Cruise Missles, all stationed on the mainland. We also have 14 nuclear warheads above 5 Megatons, four of which are thermonuclear and reach a yield of over 20 MT. We have several dozentactical warheads, between 500 kT and 2 MT. Almost all nuclear warheads are stationed in secret nuclear silos in Saboria. Only a single one is on the Canary Islands, having brought there secretly. It is tactical, the yield 1 MT and uses a ballistic missle to reach its target.

**/Classified**

The expansion of the Spaceport has begun. In the last days, several rockets have been fired to send probes onto the moon. The ideal landing point will be known within the next three weeks.

Detailed picture of the moon have been made by the spaceshuttle sent to circle it for three days. The pictures are currently classified, but may be made public within the next decade.

OOCEdit: Changed the soldier/tank numbers according to Lavo's formula, which gives me ~1.5M soldiers.

The spaceshuttle which will land on the moon will start in only two months.

A single astronaut from the Republic has been allowed to participate and take a walk on the moon with the Saborian astronauts, as a thanks for the Republic giving Saboria their part of Newfoundland.

After that mission, several others will be undertaken, and there even are plans for establishing a research outpost on the moon, to test experiments in a zero-G environment, although it is unlikely that it will be built within the next decade. Scientists are emphasizing that there is a need for a space-elevator before any expansion by mankind into space is made, as a space-elevator would rapidly lower the cost of bringing material into orbit.

The renowned scientist Arno Penzias has suggested the Canary Islands as good location for the elevator, as tropical storms are rare and they (The islands) are close enough to the equator. Currently, a team of engineers and scientists is evaluating the usefulness of the elevator.

An unnamed scientist Benito Muscleinni suggests using Republic land, as it is at the point where the bulge of the earth is highest, with little bad weather and is actually on the equator.

ooc: :awesome: I suggested it before, when we were talking about a space elevator

OOC: 'Muscleinni'? Sounds suspiciously like 'Mussolini' <.< >.>

IC: This is an interesting proposition. If it is decided that the elevator will be built, then we would appreciate getting a small strip of land on the equator to construct the elevator.

An engineer has suggested that the actual construction will take less then a month, although the necessary materials do not exist yet - initial tests have shown that even carbon-nanotubes are not sufficiently strong to withstand the immense powers that will be working. The tubes are incredibly strong at distances below one centimeter, but above that, inevitable defects in the structure weaken them to the point of 'only' withstanding 30 Gigapascal, whereas the needed material would have to withstand at least 62 Gigapascal.

Once the research facility in the north of Saboria is completely finished, the scientists there may be capable of finding such a material.

The Uberstein Empire already has a space-elevator anchor built in the Atlantic, but no cable attached. Perhaps we could use that?

It would be possible, althouhg the cable is the most important part of the elevator.

Without it, the elevator is absolutely useless. Our scientists are still working on finding a suitable material.
