Cirrus
The colors and stripes are OK, but the crest in the center would be hard to distinguish. You should pick one specific element from the crest (such as the castle or one of the birds) and use it as the central charge rather than the full crest. That's not to say the crest isn't very good. It's great. But crests and flags serve different purposes. Crests are for up close and flags are for far away.
jerdge
I like the choice of colours, though the yellow hasn't much contrast with white, and the red could have been more brilliant. I believe that choosing the blue cross or the castle alone as central symbol would make it more simple and immediate, but still distinctive. Edit: like the following. desertfox778
I based it off this flag http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Naval_Ensign_of_Italy.svg and the crest is made up from parts or crests and flags from Sicily and Malta I myself have always love a flag with a crest on adds more of an imperialist tone but mabey i could dumb it down EDIT: I would also like to nominate the Veneto Flag as a horrible example of a flag Edited April 30, 2008 by Desert Fox
Elrich von Richt
The flag consists of a yellow field and three horizontal red stripes to and can be explained as either symbolising the unifying blood running through northern, central, and southern Vietnam, or as representing the symbol for "south" (as in, south from China), in Daoist trigrams. Great Flag, Excellent Symbolism.

Great Flag, Excellent Symbolism. I'm not keen on the yellow. I also think that it is too simple, with large patches of yellow. Perhaps if it was spread out a bit it would look nicer. Hourai
Here's one I made. It represents Germanic peoples, along with my RP ethnic group, who are also Germanic. Note the water lily leaves that represent the four main Germanic groups within my nation: The Houraians, the Dutch, the Frisians, and the Swedish. Klaus von Ausburg
Why is flag design forced into a mold that fits the real world due to material constraints? Is that not limiting flag design by things that are null and void? Actually that is the purpose of the Vatican Flag. Rules of Heraldry says that two metals (such as Silver (White) and Or (Gold) cannot touch). But by adopting a flag with white and gold touching the Papacy is declaring "We are above petty laws," and ties it with its status as the voice of God for the Catholic Faith. Anyways, a crap-load of flags I have laying around, feel free to use any you like, please do ask me though. Flags of Alliances Past and Present: Flag of the 1st Byzantine Empire Flag of a short-lived Governor-General of the Byzantine Empire First Flag of SPQR Second Flag of SPQR Current Flag of SPQR Flag of PAoN Flags of Proposed Alliances: Flag of the GEoS Flag of the FNE Random Flags: Socialist Byzantine Empire People's Republic of Central Europe Proposed Flag for SPQR Imperial/Communist German Blend Nordic Version of Estonia Estonian Naval Jack Old Flag I used at the Legion
mekovi
Coming from an "ex-veteran" graphic designer, the MHA flag is the best designed flag I've seen, so far anyways. But it's not necessarily the most usable flag since the details will turn obscure when the size is decreased. Some real nice flags in this thread, keep up the good work guys. No it really isn't. 1) It has a photoshopped shine on it. Good luck producing that flag. 2) It has text 3) It has the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy logo on it. To my knowledge they are not themed off that book/movie. So it really has no relevance.
Spiritbw
thought i'd throw an idea out here for m nation, which is a member of LoSS and see what others thought of it. Since LoSS uses the thundercat as thier symbol I added it to the basic Metis flag, which si just the infinity symbol on a red flag. Weiss von Toten
Not ugly, just not pratical. Not practical at all actually. flags are supposed to be graphic symbols; words defeat the purpose. Lettering is also nearly impossible to read from a distance, hard to sew, and difficult to reduce to thumbnail image size. It would make a fantastic banner. A fantastic flag, it is not. Cirrus
MHA's is a very attractive graphic. Just not a good flag. Magistrate's yellow flag is very nice. The only real problem is that the colors are clearly basic computer colors. Second one is the same, just with less MS Paint-y colors. mekovi
Just saw Green Protection Agency (GPA) and Farkistan's flags. GPA's one is a masterpiece, Farkistan has a great flag as well.
Machiabelly
It just needs some more refining, I think. The orange and black are strong in contrast as well. Perhaps pne without the plane? Also, here's one of mine (heavily Photoshopped, I know) (United Commonwealth of Nations) It looks like the earth is performing a fan dance. I liked the GOLD flag Edited May 3, 2008 by Machiabelly

Weiss von Toten
You were crticizing a flag for using shiy photoshop effects on the last page... Indeed I was. And the GOLD flag could do without the shine as well. It looks far more dynamic than most flags anyway.
