The aid is necessary to beat down months of barbarian attacks. The Imperium is one of the last tech-trading empires in this world, hordes have increased in frequency compared to prior years and the state exchequer is constantly funding the defense of our lower-tier. This latest assault potentially has the ambition of destroying our upper-tier, thereby impoverishing the masses of the membership, tempting the less firm of will towards extermination and tech slavery.

 

Militarily speaking, if the upper-tier is destroyed, and the lower-tier genocided, the survivors will be fewer in number but extremely toughened. Former super-tier nations drop into the lower-tier, where a stasis is met against the enemy, and the barbarian mid and lower tier destroyed. Surviving tech producers will be true snake-eaters, capable of warring at a subsistence level. This would continue indefinitely until barbarian invaders leave the homeland with heavy losses in a pyrrhic victory, now weakened against actual geopolitical powers.

Wisdom and reason are of the highest and most just caliber of purity for they allow a man to experience and understand the fruits of the other values while being goods in themselves. Below wisdom and reason is the pursuit of honor, and below that are the basest desires of man, those satiated by sustenance and courtesans. These base desires grant the least joy because of their attachment to pain, that is, they are only joyful when not taken for granted. And in the case of the tyrant, who has the power to seize what he wants, those desires would always be satisfied and thus never truly satisfying.
