Part One: The Long Flight It was a long flight that started on the 4th of July, 2015 when I left the New Polar Order piloting a small stealth fighter, still wearing my Polar military uniform. Summer in the Order was cool but pleasant, and after the long winter war and following rebuilding, I was returning to the warm tropics of Supernova X. But I had more on my mind than whether the heavy uniform I was wearing would feel comfortable in the warm weather. In April, some of my former comrades in the SHADOWS unit of Supernova X informed me that the situation was rapidly deteriorating in the Imperium. I was appointed Polar diplomat there, but it became apparent that I could do little to diminish the damage caused by the inadequacies of the leadership; and in any case I was receiving flak back in Polaris for stepping beyond my boundaries as a diplomat. Finally I got wind of the planned cancellation of the Polar-SNX MDoAP, and I decided that it was my duty to return and do what I could to help my former comrades. As I passed over the wide ocean south of Polaris, I read over the speech I had made in my final military ceremony, and I hoped that it would buy us time to repair relations. My Satellite feed eventually crackled to life as I reached the halfway point: "GENERAL LEMAC TO IMMORTAN JUNKA... DO YOU COPY" "THIS IS JUNKA, IS THE RENDEZVOUS POINT CLEAR?" "ROGER THAT, PLEASE APPROACH FROM A SOUTHWEST VECTOR" I looked at my DRADIS display, and recognized that an approach from the southwest would be unexpected; I didn't want to chance the new stealth tech over heavily defended areas. Word had got out that I might be returning, and reactionary forces in the capital under the command of Masterchief777 were attempting to implement a "provisional government," as Emperor Legion-X had gone into hiding over the course of the prior month. Skirting to the east of an SNX flight squadron under the control of the "provisional government," I eased my way towards the rendezvous point, relying solely on passive instruments to minimize my signals signature. If employed, he would know by the time the ship reached the harbour entrance what the trip would be like. A well maintained ship with tight rigging was quiet. This was a reflection of a firm, well organised captain, a well disiplined and hard working crew. The captain was respected. Conversley, a noisy ship was creaking and groaning, because it had loose rigging etc. It was not maintained. The captain on a noisy had various faults, did not control the crew and was not respected by the crew. Although the crew on the "Tight Ship" were always occupied maintaining it they were not unhappy. They did not have time for petty disputes to develop amongst crew members. Leadership was one of the skills of our early explorers and those who followed. History has so many examples. Working conditions on a sailing ship would not be acceptable now but look at what they achieved. Yet they wet their napkins just like you and I did. While Polaris indeed offers fair rates of tech production as we do, along with a strongly established military and tradition, SNX offers a number of other strengths and opportunities to new Nations: An expansionist, ambition-driven mentality Upward political mobility internally The opportunity to engage in raiding and frequent military operations An atmosphere free of internalized aggression A revolutionary government with clear vision and leadership This speech sums it up. SNX has finally replaced "rights" with "obligations." This means fresh opportunities, innovation, and experiences.
