Top Five Worst Alliances of All Time

In no particular order...

1. GGA - If for no other reason but just how badly they ended.  Mind you, this was an alliance to be genuinely feared at one point as part of the Initiative.  Over time they became a joke that provided its own punchline ("you'll find out why we don't need WRCs!").

2. GOONS (the original, Goon Order of Neutral Shoving) - Good concept, amazing success fueled by its association with an offworld web site.  Why one of the worst?  They took that success and flushed it, engaging in practices that created mortal enemies, eventually becoming the most hated alliance of all time, and that lead to their ultimate demise in the aftermath of the Unjust War/Great War IV.  Then of course there was their forums that also doubled as a members only porn site (enough said).  Some good people are alumni of GOONS. Then again, some good people are former citizens of the Third Reich.

3. /b/ - Not just one of the worst alliances of all time (should have dominated the game given the number of /b/tards that played, many still do), the classic example of how not to quit a browser-based game.  Forcing the CN Forums offline for days and well...breaking Federal law in the U.S...do I need to go on?

4. Atlantis - Forced off Aqua team in 2007, they chose \m/ as a protector and moved to White.  It was unclear exactly what they expected from that relationship, but soon enough they stabbed \m/ in the back, citing "mistreatment" by \m/ (I was in \m/ leadership and still have no farking clue what they were talking about), hopping into the loving arms of NATO just before the Unjust War.  In the power vacuum on White team that followed that war, Atlantis grew at a phenomenal rate, quickly achieving sanction.  Eventually they got into a confrontation with the TPF, and when TPF got tough, they disbanded without firing a shot in March 2008--the real Chicken of the Sea.

5. Abortion Disco Dancers/Brokeback Brotherhood/Abortion Disco/any other alliance created by Jack Diorno - Even the names were offensive and Jack's posts to the OWF were legendarily bad.  In its month of existence, Abortion Disco managed to recruit a grand total of three members, all of whom apparently got lost on their way to becoming non-aligned raid targets or GPA members (same thing really these days), and made the mistake of asking Jack for directions.

That's my top 5, yours are probably different.

Got to say its good to see someone not just post a list and give a detailed view of why they think those alliances are the worst of all time. I know I know others have given some views but I have to give credit where credit is due ChairmanHal went into detail about it.

ICON (post GWIII) and Zenith:  started out strong but collapsed due to failure to create internal community.  They also mooched off of whoever was in power and had no opinions of their own.

WTF:  Gigantic but does very little and when they show their faces here, it's really disappointing.

Heroes of the Union:  Nice people but completely incompetent.  They got themselves attacked pretty much by incompetence.  I don't even remember what they did at the time (i think it was accidentally admitting a ZIed person because they didn't investigate members)but I remember going "How can you be so stupid?"

Order of Feudalistic Security:  Gonzoczar's post GATO alliance.  At one point, they had a "treaty us or be attacked" policy.

Andromeda:  Hard to think of a better connected but worthless alliance.  Ephraim Gray was a treaty whore extraordinaire and loved making promises he couldn't actually keep due to his alliance's size.

Honorable mention for SOS Brigade and any other alliance that ever used anime as a theme because pedophilia and beastiality are not cool.

Hahahahahaha

I can't imagine ever comparing people in a videogame to Nazis with a straight face but I'm glad it isn't a challenge for you.

No particular order:

*Monos Archein - Too much to discuss.
*North Atlantic Defense Coalition - Too much to discuss.

*International Communist Party - "Try, try again" didn't work out too good for them...

*The Phoenix Federation - UJW shenanigans.

*Illuminati - Couldn't back up their talk.

*Grand Global Alliance - Did they ever stop suckling NPO's teat?

Notable bloc shoutouts:

*GUARD - Absolutely spineless; sorry ONOS!

*CDT - Why even bother?

I wasn't around for GGA at their worst, so I'll throw in some of my own alliances I've dealt with:

- TPF: Bailing out of a blood pact with the Unjust Path and then going on a witchhunt that destroyed the OOC/IC line. Routinely under horrid leadership.

- M*A*S*H: Got matched up with Umbrella in the Bipolar War and ended up getting a damage dealt: damage received ratio of 1:10 (yes I'm serious). Disbanded shortly after.

- Poison clan: Being allied to them was a PR nightmare. It wasn't so much that their leadership was bad, but there were several incidents that always gets people asking "why are you allied with them?" Such as sheltering the RIA hacker fiasco, the NEW raid crap, and the stuff regarding the NAP with TPF (which was smart of them to do, but most of the world hated it).

- MI6: some would say they're too new to be on here, but the personalities they attracted made them one of the worst PR alliances and it's already biting them in the ass.

- The Legion: Won worst alliance in 2010 and for good reason.

Top-5 of all time, a good question. It's hard cause of personal opinion for example some people put down MK and I think thats from there hate of MK. Look at what MK did while they were around and you cannot say they are a top-5 horrible alliance.

1.any alliance lead by jrkee.  this say's it all any alliance lead by yours truly deserves this list. loki proved it :P

1. SNX

2. MCXA

3. NPL

4. MI6

5. GOONS

Come on man, thread is worst alliances of all time, not "5 alliances you hate most right now".

I'd have to say. ..:

1. /b/ - I think that was their name. Those asshats from the old forums.
2. Illiminati - Can't remember the dudes name but he spent thousands in donations years ago trying to make it and failed miserably.
3. AI - So much potential and now look where they are.
4. GOLD - Crumbled/disbanded with little fight when NPO came after them.
5. GGA - Loved the alliance but... little explanation needed here.

And since I only post on OWF all of maybe 5 times a year, I'll throw in my top 5:

1. NPO - Only alliance to ever hold control over Bob.
2. MK - No explanation needed.
3. TOP - Nothing but respect for those folks. The game would certainly not be the same without them.
4. FAN - Once top rated alliance then VietFAN... Taught all of Bob the impotance of warchests.
5. R&R - One of, if not the, most friendly/trustworthy alliance in the game.

Now back to watching people bitch about who's on the other side of the war.

To OP: Probably should have posted this after the war if you wanted any good discussion.

For one brief glorious moment, the RIA was a member of GUARD. ;>.> Now we're a lot of things, but spineless definitely ain't one. But we don't really count in that case, do we?

GUARD had potential to actually be worth something but instead decided that neutrality was the best sort of action which, in turn, basically isolated the entire bloc. Granted, ONOS probably deserved what they got for running a pretty shoddy spy ring but all the same the entire event for GUARD was absolutely pitiful. Also, Charles was really bad at leading the bloc; why he was the de facto leader still eludes me to this day.

What could have been. :( The RIA was awash in the political ocean at the time. We were on the objectively wrong side of the second largest coalition line ever to exist in CN, still working out our identity. It wasn't until the Unjust War, after we signed the Superfriends Pact with Farkistan and the ASC, that we came into our own as an alliance. We just wanted some kind of safety from getting raided back then, and we were already friendly with ONOS, so GUARD it was. D:

We were close to ONOS AFAIK at the time (King Arthur in particular before he became a butt).

Did GOONS murder millions in RL?  No.  It's a matter of scale really.  We both know that we weren't "nice boys" back in the day and lord knows I did my share of crimes. But GOONS always seemed to take it a few steps further.  Forget the Mercy Boards, Shark Week, and the rest...background checks on players you didn't like?  Some people think that was a MK thing, GOONS originated it.  Then there was the supernova grade stupid ("weapons grade" doesn't cover it) Bilrow thing.  GOONS leadership sat in an IRC channel with the leadership of \m/, NPO, NpO, and the rest of the Initiative and swore to keep that shit buried.  Oh but when we started losing the war because well...most every alliance we ever pissed off decided to turn on us all at the same time, suddenly it was the prefect time to give the world the middle finger and harass people IRL.

Yeah, that taught them a lesson.  The people we were fighting re-doubled their efforts and people we expected to fight for us suddenly remembered they left a tea kettle on the stove and walked away as soon as they got the chance.

Tywin preempt:  You and every single member of The Orders that sat and watched GOONS, \m/, Genmay, and the rest raid, bully, blackmail, and curbstomp our way across Planet Bob, either in the name of lulz or just because we felt like it, and enjoyed the fruits of our labors are just as guilty as we are.  You not only enabled the behavior, you benefited from it in multiple ways.

1. LoSS / SNX hands down wins this one. They sucked so much since 2006, and kept it up for 8+ steady years so far and didn't fail to deliver yet again.
2. CCC for bringing the concept of large religious alliances to Planet Bob again.
3. TDO for personal reasons which I won't bother talking about.

4. ICP for getting themselved temporary banned over their infostore app which was public.

5. OLN because lame alliance destroying nazis are never welcome.

You're still a moron for comparing things that happened in a game to Nazis. That is how stupid people try to say how bad something is by trying to qualify it with a "Literally Hitler" comparison that isn't only always wrong, but offensive too. Not to me, but I'm sure people whose families barely survived the holocaust would take exception to some hack trivializing it to make a dumb point on the internet about a group of people he doesn't like by comparing their milquetoast misdeeds to mass murderers.

As someone whose family barely survived the Holocaust, the comparison doesn't bother me. It's wrong(and if we're being honest, not 100% wrong), but it's not offensive. If anything, the sheer frequency of the use of Hitler as worst-person-ever serves to do the opposite of trivializing his impact on the world. Like Hal said, it's a matter of scale.

You could have stopped there, the rest is just adding to an already monumental pile of evidence supporting this fact.

Also damn this place for making me agree with Marx :(
