Refueled and restocked, Carrier Group A and an accompaniment of landing ships was to depart shortly with its destination to be Greenland. Greenland was to be taken in the name of the Confederacy. Little resistance was expected from the sparsely-populated wasteland and it was hoped that overwhelming force would make things quick and painless on both sides.

Diplomatic Note from Nordisk Rike

The Nordisk Rike has noticed that your nation, The Confederate Republic of the North Atlantic has made moves towards Greenland with a fleet. The Rike requests that the Confederacy rethink this move and withdraw its fleet back to its native territory. A disregard to this message, or a continued effort to move and take Greenland would not be advised.

The Confederate fleet set sail for Greenland, passing past Newfoundland and heading toward the city of Nuuk. Before arrival, they would message the inhabitants of their impending arrival. Little resistance was expected given the turmoil of rule and abandonment under the Grünreich, but nevertheless, the Confederates had geared up in preparation for a hostile military takeover of the area.

[ooc: i'm ignoring your post because there's no way you would know i was heading for greenland given i hadn't even set sail yet]

After some time, several dozen aircraft were spotted leaving the land and heading straight toward the Confederate fleet. With no warning or any response to their previous message, defensive actions were taken and the superior technological might of the Confederate fleet quickly downed the attackers with no casualties whatsoever. The planes continued toward the mainland, softening defenses after first targeting any known anti-aircraft defenses. Once things on the shore got silent, thousands of Confederate soldiers poured onto the shore and began taking the city of Nuuk. The whole ordeal was over in less than two hours and already the capital city of the wasteland flew the flag of the Confederacy.

Noting the importance of Greenland to the security of the North Atlantic and Nordic Hammer sphere, reports coming in from satellites over the region would provoke an immediate reaction from the Northlands. The IX Corps, with the quick response unit the 17th Division, would be immediately airlifted to the Faroe Islands and Iceland, pending Nordisk Rike permission. The force would make ready for immediate deployment to the untouched east, south, and north of Greenland once support by the Nordisk RIke and NH was confirmed.

The North Fleet would rendezvous with support vessels at RNS Faroe and prepare support operations on the eastern Greenlandic seaboard. The RNV Europa, with its several thousand marines and helicopter squadrons would move to play a leading role in the amphibious operations.

Private Reply to Northlands

The Nordisk Rike grants full permission for the Northlands to deploy and use current facilities being manned by Nordisk Military units. We are currently in the process of deploying our military in Iceland, so not everything is available, however Reykjavik and all of its surrounding facilities are under our control, within the next couple of days we should have all facilities under our control.

Operation Erik

The Battle Group Freki had been split in two. Half would remain on Iceland acting as a defensive forces to protect Nordic Hammer interests, the other half would be on transports ships towards Greenland. The landing point would be Tasiilaq. There was already a town there and it would be used as the perfect point in which to stage the operations. The troop transports would begin the process of ferrying them over the short distance, while Gripen aircraft based from Iceland began to patrol the skies and keep an eye on the landing zone.

The Frigates began sailing south, heading towards the tip of Greenland, they would be making an attempt at reaching it before the current Navy of the Confederate Republic of the North Atlantic could respond to their movements. The movements of the Frigates were obviously a distraction and to be used to draw the attention of the Carrier Battle Group, while the real strength of the Nordisk Rike's navy was moved into place. The Nidhug's would move in small groups past the tip of Greenland and would begin fanning out to effectively encircle the entire area and cut off the Carrier Battle Group from their mainland.

Diplomatic Note from Nordisk Rike to Confederate Republic of the North Atlantic

Greetings esteemed Confederacy, it seems that we have both begun deployments to Greenland. While we understand you have made motions in order to secure the territory some time ago, we must regret to inform you that we cannot allow a territory that has long been held politically and militarily by nations in Europe, specifically a former nation that is currently an integral part of the Rike. We ask you to withdraw from the area, and return to your waters and the status quo may be upheld. This action would also put you into high favor within the Nordisk Rike, and we would be more than willing to open up diplomatic channels in light of this situation. We await your reply.

The Hungary-Slovakian transport ships and transport planes would reach the nearest sea port and military air base in Greenland, and the 2,000 Hungarian soldiers would disembark.

They would be ordered to stand-by for further instructions for the time being.*

While the movements toward Iceland had raised some suspicion, it was not until news came of a departure toward Greenland that the Confederates actually thought there would be an invasion force. By this time, it was several hours after the capture of Nuuk, and the Confederates had entrenched themselves in the city center and surrounding metropolitan area. To the north there was little but ice, but several important settlements remained to the south on this side of the island. It would be toward the south that the Confederates were preparing to advance to when news came in of their departure and a message sent soon after.

At this time, the second carrier group stationed off the French coast would be called into the Atlantic, en route to reinforce the Confederate presence in Greenland.

A reply was sent:

We have already established ourselves in the Greenlandic capital city and it has been declared Confederate territory. More gains toward the south are underway as we speak. We have no intention on war with your nation and we would not seek to hinder any gains by the Rike against the Greenlanders, but we will defend our gains against attacks by any nation in the world, as should be obvious.

Any plans of withdrawal would have to be negotiated. We are always open to negotiation, not to promise you that an agreement could be agreed on.

The carrier group positioned itself strategically and all Confederate forces took appropriate defensive countermeasures in case of a Nordic attack. Still, the Confederate ground forces were making advancements.

From Kaliningrad Naval Base, elements of the 25th Submarine Brigade would set sail through the Danish straits (the Nordisk authorities would be notified beforehand), toward Iceland. They were to perform anti-shipping and anti-submarine operations against the Confederate ships if needed be, and to provide cover to their allies' ships.

Likewise, the 150th Marine Division, including elements of the 45th Air-Assault Battalion, would begin boarding transport aircraft and make their way to Iceland. They would cooperate with their Nordisk and Northlandic comrades to initiate amphibious operations on the eastern Greenlandic seaboard, particularly the ancient cities of Eyvindsson and Höfuðborgarsvæðinukrokurfjordur.

Several squadrons of the Soviet Air Force would make their way to Iceland. They would include Su-34s equipped with S-400 missiles, MiG-31 interceptors, Tu-142s for ASW operations, and AWACs. Helicopter squadrons along with cargo aircraft would go along for the ride.

The Belorussian fleet dispatched to Greenland would arrive. Their EM emissions would be kept as low as possible, and the Belorussian helicopters on the ships would be running patrols around the fleet. The crews would be ready for combat, and for all intents and purposes, these were ships at war. The large Kirov class cruiser would be kept at the center of the formation, with the Kolkota class destroyers fanned out around it. Gotland submarines would lurk under the seas. All ships would keep an eye out for any other vessels, especially submarines.

Shipments of extra missiles and fuel for the fleet would be sent from Belarus.

In the air, the Belorussian fighters that had previously been dispatched to Iceland would help provide air cover for the Nordic Hammer forces conducting landings on Greenland, and would also run patrols around Greenland and Iceland. Additionally, 10 Tu-160 bombers would be sent to Iceland, for when the shit hit the fan.

With the massive amounts of troops, equipment, and material being shuttled from Europe to Greenland via Iceland and the Faroes, the logistics of the coordinated operation were outstanding. The Northlands would work with Belarus, Hungary-Slovakia, Nordisk Rike, and the USSR to establish a joint operation headquarters on these islands to oversee and coordinate the Nordic Hammer response.

In coordination with Nordic Hammer allies, the Northlands would begin its deployments to Greenland. Several thousands of men with the Rapid Response Unit (RRU) of the 17th Division would be air dropped at positions in the southwest of Greenland, just beyond the last known position of CRNA soldiers. The purpose of the 17th RRU would be to contain CRNA forces already on the island, and the men would aim to form a perimeter by congregating at the few towns in the region that were still under the administration by locals.

The majority of the XI Corps would be transported via ships to major cities on the east coast of Greenland. Amphibious landings would be made with Soviet, Rike, Belarus, and Hungary-Slovakia forces in Eyvindsson City, Höfuðborgarsvæðinukrokurfjordur, and Egedesminde (OOC: JED  :awesome: ). While several frigates and submarines would be send to support these landings, the majority of the North Fleet would head to meet with the CRNA fleet in the south of Greenland. Care would be made to work with the NH to ensure the fleets were communicating but maintaining distance to prevent clustering of targets.

In all cases, Northlandic forces would not fire on CRNA troops except for self-defense. Once initial landings were made and beachheads and coastal areas secured, beaches would be turned into temporary unloading zones and harbors of the bigger cities made available for the incoming stream of supplies and soldiers.

When the CRNA's response was received, the Northlands would voice to the other NH members its willingness to attend a meeting to hopefully prevent bloodshed over some ice. At the same time, the movement of supplies and ammunition would continue and members of the RRU would continue to fortify positions in the southwest of Greenland meant to halt the CRNA troops from advancing.

Diplomatic Reply to Confederate States of the North Atlantic

We would be willing to discuss this matter with you, as would the rest of Nordic Hammer. We could host a conference between you, our allies, and us in the city of Reykjavik. I think that this matter is a very pressing issue at hand as you can tell easily by the troop movements at hand. We of course favor diplomacy over war. This message will be forwarded to our allies, and we await your reply on the matter.

Operation Erik

Troops began to dig in, in and around the territory that they had already claimed. They would provide support for all Nordic Hammer troop landings along the coast, as well as support creating landing strips in different zones across the coast to allow for easier access of all planes that were already conducting patrols of the area. Troop transports continued to bring supplies over from Iceland in preparations for the worst case scenario.

The Arvakr Frigates would position themselves off the Southern Coast of Greenland. keeping their distance from the Carrier Battle Group, while maintaining a spread of ships set up in a double line that would make it so that the Carrier Battle Group wouldn't want to move too far south. The Nidhug Submarines had finished setting up their encirclement of the area, and switched themselves directly to their silent running drives, as they made the slow process of moving themselves into range of the Carrier Battle Group, while remaining undetected.

TO CONFEDERATE STATES OF THE NORTH ATLANTIC

The California Republic, if you needed to know, is not classified as an Atlantic nation. However, we are a North American nation and a large part in many international events. We believe that who gets the island of Greenland should be up to a court composing of a jury and judge from a nation not involved in this conflict. It would be peaceful, of course, and the losers would leave not with a "sentence", yet just without the island. California would be honored to hold a meeting to decide who gets this island, despite that we fail to realize why a single nation would want a island like this other than for a couple reasons: Resource, Power, or Trade. Since it is a fair location for a trade headquarters, whoever receives the island will be requested to give land for a World Trade Committee outpost, after all, it is a valuable trade location for the Atlantic.

OOC: If you are interested in this "meeting", let me know and I can make a thread ASAP. Thanks :)

The CNRA troops would find going south impossible, and frankly, useless given the rate of speed at which the Rike was arriving. Those who were to abandon their posts went north, while those left behind dug in and began concentrating on defense and the logistics thereof. The carrier group was to place itself strategically so as to prevent Nordisk detachment toward the continental CNRA or through the Davis Strait past Nuuk.

Two reconnaissance planes were sent to shadow the Nordisk Rike fleet. Anti-submarine warfare tactics were used and radars were scanning.

A message was sent to the Nordisk Rike:

We are interested in negotiations and a high-level statesman will be sent to Reykjavik quickly.

The second carrier group off the French coast, upon nearing the Atlantic, began to attack the coast of Galicia. The unprepared militia-based armies of the Galician countryside were variously slaughtered or taken captive within just a few hours, and the province was declared part of the Confederacy.

The conflicting reports of fighting in Galicia prompted a Maltese response. These reports coming from open source sites seem to confirm that it is highly possible that Galicia was invaded by the CRNA. Thirty Six F-22 Raptors would be armed and prepared for deployment. with them would go 12 B-1 Lancer Bombers armed for long range Anti-shipping strikes. This force would be designated Force Valletta. A naval group of Armed Malta Forces ships would be organized and it would include 12 Selong the Great Class Destroyers, 1 Ticonderoga Class Cruiser, and four Gotland Submarines. This force would be designated Task Force Drake. The 1st Malta Airborne is recalled from Bulgaria and retasked with possible clearance duties in Galicia.

Organization and departure of these forces would not be an instantaneous one, time would be needed. The departure of Force Valletta was fairly straight forward and it was dispatched as soon as the aircraft were rearmed and refueled. Their orders are to fly to within strike range of Galicia and then wait for further orders. With them would be sufficient tanker capacity to keep them on station for as long as needed. A landing strip closer to Galicia would be found to allow them a chance to rest while they waited.

A notice was sent to the CRNA..

Explain your presence in Galicia.

- King Gregory of Malta

To: Greece and Northlands
From: King Gregory

I request your assistance with dealing with a possible invasion of Galicia by what could be the CRNA. At this time we require overflight permission and assistance with refueling our planes. Further, a landing strip capable of handling tankers and B-1 Lancer Bombers is needed to forward deploy our aircraft, we hope the Northlands will be able to assist us with this matter.

The Belorussian fleet would get tired of watching a bunch of soldiers running around icy beaches on Greenland, and would decide to sail down to where the CRNA, Northlands, and Nordisk Rike fleets were chilling. Belorussian jets would remain to give air support to the troops landing on Greenland.

Belorussian fleets would maintain the combat preparedness they had had when arriving at Greenland.

Reykjavik

Jarl Sigvard Sverk would be temporarily be transported to Reykjavik for discussions with the Confederacy's Diplomat, he would await the arrival of this diplomat in the government building of the Iceland capital, which had been converted into the Nordic Hammer base of operations for the region, and all Nordic Hammer members would be invited to send a representative to conduct negotiations with the Confederacy.

Operation Erik

The Frigates would spread their formation and form a blockade line to make sure that the Confederate fleet knew not to attempt a break out. All the while, the Nidhugs would move into their final position finally setting up with every ship in range. Their stealth properties would maintain their ability to operate with the secure knowledge that they wouldn't be detected until such a time as the Confederates forced them to fire upon their ships.

With the landings of allied troops on the eastern shore of Greenland, it allowed the luxury of the Nordisk troops that had already landed there the ability to start their movements in the direction of Nuuk across the central Greenland.

Soviet troops and personnel continued to bring in a stream of supplies, ammunition, and equipment into Greenland, concentrated in and around Eyvindsson City, Höfuðborgarsvæðinukrokurfjordur, and Egedesminde. The troops would utilize military bases and facilities in the vicinity for that purpose, and whenever on leave, they would mingle with the local population, particularly beautiful women. Greenlandic women were purportedly the best in bed, and these lucky soldiers would get to experience that up close and personal.

Some of the submarines would dock at the aforementioned ports, while most of them continued to conduct defensive patrols near the southern Greenlandic coast, in conjunction with Northlandic and Nordisk vessels. The same went for Soviet aircrafts, some which would conduct CAPs over southern and central Greenland, keeping a vigilant eye out for anything out of the ordinary.

Response to Malta

You may proceed through Northlandic airspace and you are free to use facilities at RNB Gibraltar-Algeciras, RNS Rota, and RNS Cartagena as required, all of which are capable of hosting B-1 bombers. Additionally, we are deploying 12 F22s to accompany your planes as this incident unfolds. We will assist with whatever measures are deemed necessary.

Office for Foreign Affairs

Office for Security

And as it was written, the fighters stationed in Spain would be temporarily reassigned to support the Maltese forces against the new presence in Europe. An AWAC would also be deployed to monitor the situation.

Back on Greenland, the RRU forces would move forward as the CNRA retreated in southern Greenland. The men would welcome the Nordisk Rike presence as their soldiers deployed to their positions. Meanwhile the main military force would assist with the consolidation of control over the eastern seaboard especially in the larger cities. It was unknown how long this presence would be, so supplies would continue to trickle in.

Representing the Northlands, Richard van Buren would fly to Reykjavik. He was the Regional Officer for Foreign Affairs for northern Europe and got settled in, glad to be surrounded by the leaders of Northlands' closest allies.

Operation Erik

With the failure of the Confederacy to send a diplomat to Iceland in a timely manner resulted in the troops that were deployed to Greenland to begin to make advances directly towards the Confederate troop positions. They would keep the armored vehicles in the front while the infantry followed from the rear. Artillery would move into dug in positions guarded by Anti-Aircraft weapons as they began to zero in on all Confederate troops emplacements, and all of their fortified positions, they were prepared to open fire the minute that the Confederate troops decided to be trigger happy and shoot at the Nordisk Rike soldiers on the ground.

The Frigates began to throw off active radar, and flooding themselves and the surrounding territory with active radar and sonar pings to further disrupt any chance for anyone that was watching the area to detect the submarine flotilla that had already moved into hunter killer groups and had the entire Confederate fleet zero'ed in and every torpedo armed and ready to fire on a moments notice if the Confederates failed to arrive at the meeting or made the mistake to fire upon the Rike's soldiers.

Operation Eric

Northlandic forces worked in tandem and moved forward with the Rike. The Northmen would begin to advance on the CNRA forces and would have their guns ready, however they would not fire unless fired upon. Their objective was to secure the main center of government  as well as key utilities and chokepoints in the city. The Northlands had less armor than the Nordisk Rike in Greenland and would rely heavily on her allies as they approached the CNRA positions.

Twenty F22 aircraft would provide CAP and an AWACS would be launched to oversee command and surveillance over Nuuk. Several S10 and S20 anti-air missile units would be used to provide cover for the men while the North Fleet would be ordered to support preparations against the CNRA fleet. Care would be taken to identify and lock onto Confederate targets, with this information relayed to allies as soon as it was received.

The thirty six F- 22 Raptors proceed to move towards Galicia and quickly make an educated guess that the occupiers of this part of Spain are indeed from the CRNA. The Raptors keep their weapons bays close and for now proceed to take position that allows them to wait and observe. The B-1 Lancer Bombers refuel and move farther away as so to have adequate time to turn away from advancing CRNA threats. With so little intelligence as to the dispositions of the Confederates the standard operating procedure of the AMF is to first identify the locations of the Command Control and Communications elements of enemy forces.

To this end the standing patrol of TU-94 turbo prop bombers with their extensive on-board suites of electronics emissions interception equipment, overhead satellites, radar assets in Tarifa, the F-22 Raptors, and B-1 Lancer Bombers capabilities are pooled. Every sniff, whiff, or tingle of electronics emissions from Galicia is transmitted back to the main electronics analysis center of Malta's Intelligence apparatus. The signals and data is sifted through with great care by teams of experts who have been doing this sort of work for quite some time.

In Malta, an emergency meeting is called due to the AMF being stretched to nearly the breaking point dealing with the emerging threat in Bulgaria. What forces that are on hand to deal with the Confederates at best can be expanded by only a modest amount. Rather than diluting the fighting strength of Greece, the decision is made to contact the Alvonians who have a fleet based in Koper. A private coded request is sent to them for assistance with ousting the Confederates in the name of European solidarity.

Until then, forward deployment of forces to the Northlandic Airfield in Spain would begin in earnest.

A reply was sent back to Malta that confirmed the assistance of the Kriegsmarine, and that a fleet would set sail within the hour.

This fleet was made up of the SKM Markus Wilding aircraft carrier, SKM Szczecin cruiser, SKM Powers, Ebner, Metternich, Dressler, Rafael Oelburg, and Ferdinand destroyers, SKM Bayern and Tschechische Republik frigates, SKM Tarantel, Regen, Brno, Novy Bur, Eisenstadt, Ansbach, Tiger, and Wolf corvettes, along with the SKM Wal submarine. This fleet, which became known as the SKM Markus Wilding fleet, set sail for Galicia, prepared for anything they may come in contact with. A separate request was sent to Malta requesting transmission codes for Maltese forces operating in the area.
