if trying counted i can name a much bigger list with the most relevant person being knights111

A glaring omission from this list.  Considering where CN is now, and he was one Salajol message away from forming a bloc featuring IRON and TOP.

lolwat? Story time :)

Sorry, I missed this.

Most of it was off forum pm's on here and ingame, but at one time the TGE was indeed forming a new bloc, with BoK.  IRON agreed to sign up as a cornerstone member, and TOP was approached to complete the bloc.

However, knights111 response from Salajol (according to knights111, I would be curious to see Salajol's side of it) convinced him that TOP was disinterested and instead openly hostile to such an endeavor.  As a result, knights went and approached NPO about joining.

Now, TOP and IRON are openly at war, and NPO is treatied to IRON (and Sengoku come to think of it).  Whether CN could indeed have taken a different path from then or not is a hypothetical we may never know, but its certainly possible that if that interaction had gone differently, we might be in a very different political environment right now.  And for all those doubting this, you need to remember that was during the TGE's heyday.

Alliance of the Year -- Argent.  Shocker, right?

Lets look at the case for it though.

While the owf is filled with the prattle of competing positive and negative spin so ridiculous it makes both sides look bad, Argent is pretty much the one alliance that has maintained a huge presence of the owf without any negativity attached to it.  It is hard not to think of an alliance with a more oversized presence in the collective psyche.

But the success of Argent hasn't been limited to just in the public eye, and getting so big that even 'unrelated' conflicts are named after them.

The year saw Argent win 2 wars.  Winning 2 was is not that big of a deal, until you realize what came before it.  As everyone says, politics on Bob is cyclical.  Those who are on TOP inevitably get targeted by those on the bottom, and then themselves get pulled down until its their turn to drag the new TOP down.  First one NPO wins, then the other NpO wins, and all the while the neutrals look shady.

But to really put in perspective the military accomplishment of Argent in the past year, they have won every war since Bi-Polar.  A verifiable winning machine.

You cannot win a war in CN without Argent.  Ask unknown Smurf and mi6, who both found out that a war without Argent cannot have a winner.

And in both wars, Argent was able to use its military to maximize the amount of damage they didn't take.  Everyone else gets rolled, and Argent is there, pixels intact, ready to win the next war for their allies.

So, you have an alliance that has had more success militarily and politically than arguably any other alliance in cn in the past year (DBDC had to surrender to RIA for instance.  Have you ever seen Argent surrender?  Nope.).  But more than that, Argent has shaped the way we do cn.  DBDC makes a big deal about not using forums, as if that wasn't stolen directly from Argent.  Polar or mogar for instance talk about tier warfare, and yet both spent a while trying to add tech only to now brag about losing it and fighting in a better tier.  Who truly pioneered the use of tier warfare?  Argent, with a strategic curtailment of tech deals.  There is at least one more trend I am aware of that I cannot right about here, but, behind every trend in CN, there is an Argent leading the way.

Most Powerful Alliance: DBDC/IRON/NPO all have tons of nominations as is.  Almost all of these have the neccessary nominations, so I'm skipping them.

It was a rather tempting offer. I was more inclined towards the "merger of our alliances for better tech deals" offer but no one else wanted to do it. :(

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm lazy and I don't really want to do this.

If someone else has the time/motivation, would you like to compile the nominations in this thread? I'll do the rest if you'd like.

Here are the nominations, and here is the python script I used. Given your initial comments in this thread, it is probably better than your macro.

Edit: I'm working on cleaning the nominations list up, removing duplicates and invalid answers and such. This will take a while...

Edit2: Finally done. Some cleaning left to do for someone else, such as hunting down cut-off links, and the IRC quotes nominations wound up getting cut off, so they may have to be added.

God dammit. I was hoping noone would actually compile that shit so I wouldn't have to do it.  <_<
