Indonesia

The heavy pre-dawn mist that bathed the coast of Komodo Island was momentarily brightened, the light from the fire diffused amid the vapor. The crescendo came moments later, when the fire burst through the misty veil and scorched the earth beneath it. Enormous aircraft carriers loomed in the ever-shortening distance, launching from their decks scores of roaring monsters that disappeared across the island as quickly as they appeared on the coast. The radio broadcast flooded the airwaves -- it was shocking to those who had no reason to suspect an attack and welcome to those who prayed for it to come. Federation President Charles Milton Bloy addressed the islanders: "The day of your liberation has come. Do not fear. You will be safe."

The Nationalist Party leaders had escaped to the west and several factions had been thrown together around their leadership in Indonesia. At least, this is what the President said in his official address. Skeptics remained skeptical and the faithful remained in their own reveries. The motives for the action were uncertain to a great many.

Scant fortifications were annihilated within thirty minutes. A contingent of Federal marines and naval operatives, about 8,000 strong, landed and began the occupation, supported by light artillery. Rebel militias were amassing and, ragtag though they were assumed to be, their expertise in guerrilla warfare was not to be underestimated. A naval blockade of Komodo Island and of the Great Lakes Republic territory of Sumbawa. Once again, war was underway.

The Southern Fleet began a full speed thrust towards the Indonesian Archipelago to protect the territories under Imperial Protectorate ceded from the Parthians.  Strategic forces moved to high alert, as missile systems were placed into the Philipinnes to enable a strike on the home territories of the Oceanic Federation, and the bomber force was sent to be able to engage the country's defensive systems from stand off range.

Dispatch from the Emperor of Tianxia

Movement against the entirety of Indonesia including our protectorates is a invasion of Tianxia itself.  Continuing on an aggressive path will only yield the Oceanic Federation's destruction. That said if you merely wish to remove the GLR we will not stand in the way.

The President had just barely dozed off on board his plane, fast on its way to a forward operating base where he was to make a scheduled appearance. He would have to address the Assembly the next afternoon and make a case for the sudden movement west. He was roused from his sleep by an aide who brought word from his air force and army generals that an emergency had arisen. He brought himself to the next cabin within a few minutes and had been briefed about the Tianxian decision. All missile defense systems were readied and a portion of the fleet had been positioned to the north of Irian Jaya, ready to engage should he give the word.

"Let's keep everything ready, but I want no action taken yet. Send the following reply...

'There is no large-scale or long-term territorial ambition in Indonesia. These are raids intended to weed out criminals whom our intelligence suggests have escaped to this region. At any rate, the land that was ceded to your nation includes little east of Borneo or southeast of Sumatra. That land is part of the maritime continent and the Oceanic region and not the Asian land that you took over.'

Send that. And try to get me on the phone with someone from their administration -- a conference would be better! Let's just hold our position in the waters around Sumbawa and sit tight for a while."

"Yes, Mr President." His aides and generals were fast at work.

With air raids coming to a close, the skies cleared over the islands. The initial firefighting had stopped, the surprise land operation a success. Now an uneasy calm was finally in sight. A tight naval blockade around Sumbawa and Komodo remained to provide protection for the remaining marines and sailors as they secured various areas of importance. The blockade's northernmost outposts were just south of the Bay of Bengal.

The Empire sent a transmission back to the Oceanians.  "The Empire maintains that it will not intervene and allow action to remove the GLR from the region.  In fact this would be a most justified outcome.  However, we also urge you to be careful about speaking about movements in Indonesia's archipelago generally.  We will allow you to proceed unhindered."

A response to the communique read as follows: "The government will take no military action against any nation at this time. However, we request permission to begin construction of a base on the western coast of Java. This would be operated by our military and would serve the purpose of guarding our territorial interests to the west. If this is agreed to, all other forces in Indonesia will be removed."

"The Empire of Tianxia will not trade a base in our sovereign territories in exchange for no aggression.  Rewarding aggression would only encourage more through appeasement.  Discussions about basing rights can only be discussed on tracks separate from ones that deal with aggression and aggression must be dealt with first."

Public

"No aggressive action has been carried out against the Tianxian state. The policing actions, meant to eliminate certain targets deemed hostile to Oceania, is geographically comprehensive and does not pertain solely to Indonesia. The insistence of Tianxia to label this as aggression, coupled with its refusal to conduct any more private discourse, is deeply troubling. Our mission is still underway in Indonesia, though the terms have been altered in order to preserve peace. There can be no further guarantees at this time."

Private

The absolute secrecy of their mission guaranteed by a small contingent of ships and naval spy planes, Oceanic engineers hastily began their high-priority engineering mission in an undisclosed location in Indonesia.

This type of behavior is sadly familiar to us, and always ends the same way.  In fact most of the Indonesian Archipelago is a Tianxia protectorate.  The fact that you refuse to define and limit your mission to only sections of the Indonesian Archipelago and you ask for bases only angers the Khan of Khans.  Furthermore our decrees are public for the attention of all and our terms are firm and final.  This is the final warning, the Empire gives you.  The Oceanic Federation will withdraw to its own borders and it will submit a formal apology to the Son of Heaven, who reigns as the strongest below the blue sky!

You have 24 hours.

"If the Grand Secretary wishes to believe that our mission has expanded, that is his own choice and far from the Federation's purvue. It consists of operations on two islands -- nothing more. The confrontation you are implying is a serious business and should not be thought of lightly.

"You have you instructions.  Compliance or not is now solely your choice.  Pay homage to the Khan of Khans and you may yet live.  Continue to show him disrespect and you will suffer the fate of all the Khagan's enemies."

A preemptive airstrike was launched on the southern Philippines just minutes ago. It's effects were as yet to be determined. An official declaration of war was expected within hours. Naval forces rearranged their position to occupy the waters south of Borneo and a small contingent of ships was sent to the sea just south of India.

Initial bombing raids have started in the southern part of the Philippines and are making the journey north. Though air reinforcements are on their way, a scant handful of bombers, manned by the bravest of pilots, begin their raids virtually unescorted. It's only a matter of time before they're intercepted or shot down, but they unleash their payloads along defenses in the small islands.

With the coasts clear, naval units are now finally realigned to strategically block naval reprisals in the waters south of the Philippines. That gateway to the mainland of Oceania has been closed off. The Admiralty breathed a sigh of relief, the homeland secure, at least from the north. Military assistance from an ally was fast on its way, and the top-secret engineering project on the northernmost tip of Java would finally be properly protected.

A communique to Tianxian officials read as follows: "Since the start of its mission, the Oceanic Navy has had control of the Andaman Sea. Now it fully occupies the Celebes Sea. A coalition force under Federation command is set to weigh anchor for Japan. We cannot live under the threat of violent reprisal. If you wish to discuss peace, we are ready for a truce and to receive an ambassador. Should you choose not to discuss terms of peace, war will be waged."

The 1st and 11th Armies, two divisions of Femocratic troops, and the 3rd Air Cavalry, guarded by a division of Federal Marines, numbered 60,000 troops in all. This force was set in motion across the beloved Pacific on a mission to blockade the Japanese waters and prepare for an invasion of the mainland, should such action be necessary.

"The United Kingdom is highly disturbed by the course of events in Southeast Asia, while we prefer a diplomatic solution to be reached we must insist Oceania withdraw to its borders immediately and enter into talks with Tianxia to prevent further escalation"

All forces in Asia would be brought to a maximum state of alert while additional deployments from the United Kingdom were ordered to reinforce the forces already there.

"The Tianxians were the first to issue ultimatums regarding military action. Regardless... We will consent to no further advance by sea if they are truly interested in peace, however it is necessary for them to accept the ceasefire offered before any withdrawal or draw-down can begin. This is not done out of principal, but rather for national security purposes. If the ceasefire is ignored, we will have no choice but to press on.

"If the United Kingdom were to act as a diplomatic mediator, that would also be acceptable."

OOC: If this is going to be war, please do not ignore timelines and I would hope the involved parties can talk to each other in a civilised tone on any questions they have regarding the operations of the other side. The GM Hall is a place that adresses rule violations, please try to utilise it only for that, as GMs are not supposed to just resolve your dispute for you.

This is a general notice and I'd hope for it to be respected. Thank you very much and have fun RPing.

OTH radars and E-2 Hawkeyes bore the marks of multiple bogies inbound from vectors occupied by the Oceanic forces.  IADS in the Philippines came alive as the aircraft beared down towards the coastline.  Without the use of deception measures, the enemy fighter jets were highly vulnerable to the air defenses.  S-400 missile provided and outer perimeter defense, followed in by the PAC-3s and Aster 30 missiles while E-2 Ds provided guidance vis a vis datalink from a safe distance from the fight.  The combined advanced radar system negated most countermeasures and allowed the air defense systems to tear apart the attack before it could fully occur.  Meanwhile 4 MiG-31s were launched from the Phillipines to intercept the rear area mid tank refuelers that were necessary to recover aircraft launched against such distances, using their long range missiles and speed to catch and pulverize the tankers from a distance.  This would give any retreating aircraft which survived the IADS no choice but to bail over the sea.

Simultanously, groups of 4 F-22s each were launched to provide stealthy ISR to the main force of fighters and bombers involved in the counter attack, launched with the first signs of incoming forces from Oceania, B-1s equipped with air to air packages had been launched from Hainan Island Air Force base, two of them against each of the attacking formations.  The groups were engaged from stand off range with a grand total of 40 AMRAAM-Ds filtering out those that survived the IADs attack.  Immediately following the attack, the two groups would break off moving to engage ground based targets with JASSM-ERs.  Utilizing ELINT, the B-1s were able to pin point the missile defense systems along the coast of Guinea and Australia that protected against ballistic forces.  While the missile defenses being fielded had some capability against lower speed ballistic, because of the kinematic properities of the missiles and radar challenges they had totally no capability against very low profile stealth cruise missiles like the JASSM which flied low and slow, allowing them to precisely target and hit those radar nodes necessary to power missile defenses.

The F-22s would now unleash the final punch of this salvo, opening their weapons bays and making ruthless use of their missile to finish off the surviving aircraft before returning to base.

Concurrently the B-52 force would launch their own cruise missile attack utilizing the Tomahawk Block IVs to engage command and control nodes, the Presidential Palace, military headquarters, communication infrastructure, satellite uplinks, and command structures.  The weapons again because of their very low altitude, and low signatures profile would be virtually unidentifiable and swarm against targets, hiding until they were all ready to strike at once, operating from stand off range.

With strikes against the command nodes, DF-25s from Taiwan and Singapore, using a total of 90 missile incoming from different vectors on maneuverable arcs to complicate and defeat current missile defenses, and employing a mix of EMP and FAE to destroy hardened conventional command and control bunkers and air bases around the Indonesian Archipelago and Australia.  Coupled with this, DF-21 Bs from Guam and the Philippines were used to hit wide area logistic points, and air fields, targeting large formations at bases before they could be dispersed.

A Global Hawk was meanwhile brought in at stand off range to surveill enemy signals emissions from their mobile air/missile defenses that survived.  Coordinates were then forwarded to a Ohio Class sitting 500 kilometers north of Guinea, unleashing its full arsenal of 172 tomahawks, utilizing their in flight retargeting programs to engage and defeat the air defenses protecting the island.

This would clear the way for the 8th Air Wing comprised of 4 F-22s, 2 MiG-31s, and 24 F-15 Ks launching from Guam to conduct their attack against the Island.  The F-22 force would super cruise ahead scouting the area and forwading targeting information to the group.  With enemy air defenses supressed, the forward fighter force would scan for enemy fighters, upon locating, the 2 MiG-31s would engage prioritizing first any AWACs craft in the area, then the forward vanguard of the enemy force with R-37s, coordinating with the F-22 force to engage the enemy at Mach 6 from nearly 400 kilometers safe distance before bugging out.  F-15 Ks would move in baiting any enemy missiles, defeating them with towed decoys, before the now much weaker defensive air groups were engaged by the Raptors, along with a moderate number of missiles from the F-15 Ks, who would proceed to hit hardened targets and surviving radar and satellite capability in the upper section of New Guinea.

At sea the Oceanic Navy would fair even worse.  Having not taken care to mask their EM emissions they were painfully vulnerable and ready to be preyed upon.  F-18s had been launched as soon as the conflict broke out.  Advanced Super Hornets and Advanced Growlers would converge against the multiple nodes of attack, and render them quickly mute.  The central force centered around two carriers in the SCS moved towards engagement in the Celebes Sea.

With E/A-18Gs would jam incoming ships radar defenses while the F-18s from 200 kilometers would engage with SLAM-ERs with a multi-directional assault forcing the enemy radar assets to be even less effective as they barreled in on the force, targeting carriers as top priority followed by the more powerful radar ships.

Concurrently Type 22 missile boats moving from their alcoves in the Davao Gulf, with their low radar cross section swarmed in firing off salvos of saccade cruise missiles from 300 kilometers, flying below the radars of the enemy carrier forces to finish them off with swarms of over 500 missiles.

The force moving into the Andaman Sea would meet a grizzly fate, as DF-21-D anti-ship ballistic missiles fired from South East China would shoot into the sky.  Because the missiles were able to maintain most of their flight overland, the phase in which they were briefly vulnerable to missile defenses was now utterly gone.

Descending at high speeds, beyond the capability of missile defenses, the weapons would swarm in targeting 4 to a carrier and 1 to every other ship in the fleet.  Following on 30 F-15s would swoop in using Burma's terrain to mask their entrance, carrying out harpoon attacks against the surviving forces in the area while also scanning for any surviving aircraft.

The force heading North toward Japan would be simultanously pummeled, once it reached the direction of Guam from the Front and the flanks.  DF-21s would blanket the force concentrating 5 per carrier, 4 for the rest, once again engaging far outside the intercept envelope from the Ryukyus, while B-52s and missile boats from Guam and the Phillipines attacked with swarms of over 300 low flying cruise missiles.  The forward elements of the Eastern Fleet would also move in.

With a phalanx of 4 F-22s providing combat information while two more groups of four screened from the Phillipines and Guam for enemy aircraft.  This cleared the way for groups of 10 dispersed Poseidons from each direction and from the rear to fire a concentrated attack of 440 SLAM-ER harpoon cruise missiles from 200 kilometers from all directions.  The F-22 force would concurrently snipe out any AEW capability.  The group would then converge and finish off what remained of the attacked fleet.

With the sudden and rapid responses of the air and sea forces of Tianxia, the landing attempts would be impossible to move.  Strategic rocket forces were placed on high alert as the following transmission was sent.

"Your military forces are faced off against a vastly superior force.  You have one chance to surrender.  Failure to do so, and our strategic forces will be authorized to escalate." -Yuan Shizi
